Manager Brandon deserves 5 stars. I feel bad giving a low rating because I found him to be great customer service. The biggest offense is the portions are not even close to the pictures. These type of fast food joints are reasons we prefer the big fast food joints. My patty melt was laughable. I literally returned it for a refund. I've never done that before but I could not allow myself to eat it. I'm so disappointed in my experiences at this place. It is definitely not what it used to be...unless my friends didn't tell me they were drunk at the time and this place was the only option open? Desperate times makes poor decisions positive? I'm going to be frank - the food here sucks. Some of the worst. I've never eaten at a steak n' shake before and so I went in with pretty much no expectations, but I love burgers, fries, shakes, and anything that looks like a classic diner so I was excited. On paper, the food looked (and sounded) really good. The atmosphere felt like a chain diner which I like and it seemed clean. Also, the workers were very friendly and were working well dealing with a lot at once. The service was slow but I wasn't upset. Then we got the food and my whole opinion changed. The fries were basically just crunchy crumbs with no seasoning. The burger was small and chewy. Also with little flavor. I got the butterfinger milkshake and it tasted kind of watery? I had to stop drinking it because I was worried it would make me sick. Anyways, skip it. There's a lot more in the area. read more

Stopped in with my wife and 5 kids during a six hour road trip to Tampa. Every other Steak 'n Shake that I have been to have been very clean with quick service and friendly staff. This restaurant in particular though is probably the dirtiest fast food establishment that I have ever been in; worse that any McDonalds I have had the misfortune of visiting. Our "clean" table with paper placemats was dirty; I had to literally get some hand sanitizer and a napkin to wipe off the curly hair and ketchup/mustard stains. The table next to ours was dirty with plates and drinks and sat that way the entire time we ate. The bathrooms were a complete disaster. If we weren't in a hurry we would have left. Driving back to Tallahassee from south Florida and I just had to stop for food. Saw the lights of the building once wwe got off the highway exit. The staff was a little side tracked. But once they noticed us, there was great service. Nothing special about the food, found everywhere. But it tasted great and came out fairly quickly. On a way back to S Fl from Atlanta, we wanted some ice cream. It was 10 p.m. (hey, it's vacation!) so we found this location en route to our stopping point for the night in Gainesville. We ended up ordering some food (and ice cream) as we were hungry. Slow as heck! Almost walked out. I had to stand up and say something, as the waitress kept saying 'it's coming right out'. I call b.s.!! When the Manager came over to ask if every was ok, I said things were sloowwww. I was tired and a bit grumpy, and I didn't hold back. She did apologize, explained that the guacamole that came with our sandwich 'needed to be made'. Ok..perhaps the waitress could have told us this and we would have ordered something else. We finally got our food, and full service from the Manager who diffused the situation, made sure everything else was ok, and even threw a shake in on the house. Summary: Food was yummy. Lousy service is probably the best compliment this restaurant has ever had. Quick observations: 1) The servers argue with each other. 2) The milkshakes take forever to be delivered. 3) When you get your milkshake, they will likely be melted. 4) They were out of soup and chicken tenders. 5) I actually had to TELEPHONE the restaurant to get someone to come to the register so that I could pay - SERIOUSLY! This location is a slow, disgusting waste of your time. Stay away! This does not live up to the Steak and Shake franchise name. First impressions: As our waitress led us to our table, I passed by five or more tables with old food, plates, and drinks on them. Being that it was early afternoon, I figured that the mess was a result of a large lunch rush that perhaps had just left and the staff was working through that. The next disappointment was the restrooms. The floors were extremely dirty and sticky. The trash cans were overflowing with paper towels. A roll of toilet paper was placed on top of the dispenser rather than inside (I supposed I should be thankful that at least there was some there). Our waitress was friendly and took our order with no issues. We ordered two double cheeseburgers with regular fries. As basic of a S&S order as one can get. Our waitress returned to the kitchen and then took the order from a nearby table. After approximately 30 mins food was being delivered to that table. We sat with empty glasses and no food. We had a time schedule to meet so we were unable to stay for the full experience. We left hungry and pissed. Steak and Shake will get my business again, but this location will not. We left. Second time we went it was through the drive- thru, no one answered again we wait, got tired of waiting went to the window, they saw us and we waited some more. Finally the open the window and are allowed to order, we are lucky enough to hear an employee say" I should of called in". We order pay and are asked to move up and wait for our items. Boy oh boy what a visit. I'll start off with what I liked: The kiosks are snappy and easy to use, the food was alright and came out in a timely manner especially for how busy it was. The staff worked really hard. Now for what I didn't like: The place was a mess! The windows look like they haven't been cleaned in months, and that's being generous. The floors needed to be swept and mopped, there were no clean tables available, and the restrooms were rough per my mother. Seems these problems are caused by a lack of staff. Well my review will echo some of the other statements others have expressed. The service was slow. With that being said they were very busy. Our waitress seemed a little overwhelmed and from the conversations we overheard by staff the kitchen was making mistakes causing every order to be backed up. We did get our food, 30 minutes after ordering. It was standard Steak and Shake. Burger was average, fries thin and crisp. My wife's chicken strips were good. The cup of chili was soupy and more beans than anything else and flavor a bit lacking. What kept me from making my rating a 3 instead of a 2 was the fact that they offered us free shakes for the delay. Hope they get all the kinks worked out because it does appear they are trying but have some kitchen issues to deal with. read more

When you're on a road trip and you see a Steak n' Shake, it would be worth your while to take a break and eat hear. The prices are good and it is actually very decent. We don't have this restaurant in the East Coast so everytime I'm down south, I try to eat here. Their burgers are good and so are their hotdogs. Forget this place. Terribly run, obviously bad management, and a poorly trained staff that acted like we were an intrusion. We hated this place! At 5:00 (dinnertime), there was a staff of three people consisting of a cook, a clueless girl behind the counter, and one waitress. When you walk in, you can't sit down...there's a sign that says "Wait to be seated". Seriously? This as a burger joint, not a real restaurant. We had to stand there for several minutes while nobody even acknowledged us, completely indifferent to our presence. So, I'm standing there by the door, waiting for a table in a fast food burger joint that has two other customers sitting at tables. The rest of the tables are all empty. It felt like we were invisible. Finally, I said in a loud voice, "How about a table?" This brought a smirking, arrogant waitress over and she brought us to a table. Then we sat there for a little while, still ignored and waiting for service. So, at this point, I've now been in this place for about five minutes and I'm still not in front of somebody who's taking my order for a hamburger. If I was at Hardys or Arby's, I'd be eating already. I decided this place was a huge mistake. We left before anybody ever showed up at out table, disgusted with the poor service and lack of attentiveness. Was incredibly underwhelmed. The Frisco Melt looked really good...on paper. What I got was a really flat cold sandwich. The fries were also cold. The burger shooters were okay. We paid extra for Cajun fries and our order was messed up. Even though they fixed it the fries were still cold! Was very disappointed. Also got the salted caramel milkshake.
