Stopped here for lunch while traveling through Florida. The place is very cool, with lots of barbecue memorabilia. The service was friendly and quick. We had the fried shrimp, and they were delicious. Baked beans were the best I have ever had. We regretted not getting a barbecue. Oh well we will save that for our next trip. I had high hopes for this local BBQ place. It had great reviews but it's not getting a great review from me. Pork was the driest meat I had ever had. Tasted like a burger, it was strange. Hush puppies were okay and so were the corn nuggets. Would not recommend if you like moist BBQ. read more

We were in the area on business and so Fat Belly's was highly recommended. It was Wing Wednesday so a group of 7 of us had wings. Lots of wings. Fresh off the smoker. They were delicious. We also had a couple of cheese sticks appetizers. All good. Service was about as fun as it can get. Some of the guys are almost local and one of them was a local so it was a hoot. Very real place. Excellent sweet tea. Catfish fingers and waffle fries were the standouts. Tartar and cocktail sauce were also very nice. Didn't see the Tater Tots until too late, but probably will try them next time. Closed Sundays and only open until 3pm on Mondays. Yelp didn't "know" about the 3pm Monday closing so we arrived starving about 5:30 pm after looking forward to it all day. Bummer. read more

I ate dinner with my family here tonight. My inlaws have eaten here many times, but it was my first time here and it did NOT disappoint. The restaurant is small with country decor, but the food and service are great. The restaurant was busy but our waitress got everyone's order correct, drinks never ran dry, and everything was out fresh and hot. They have wings, BBQ, catfish, and more. I got the chicken tender and shrimp meal with baked beans and onion rings with ranch. My fiance got the shrimp combo with bacon cheese grits and a side salad with blue cheese dressing. As a daughter of a shrimper I'm picky about my shrimp, but this place had perfectly fried fresh shrimp. The chicken tenders were crispy and juicy. The ranch tasted homemade and it was a nice consistency. The baked beans and onion rings were delicious. The side salad had cheese, tomatoes, and egg as well as homemade blue cheese dressing with big chunks of fresh cheese. I would definitely eat here again. After taking a trip to Publix to stock up our fridge in the cabin we are staying in, we stopped here for lunch. This is pretty much the only restaurant in the little town of White Springs. We were able to quickly seat ourselves and were greeted by our server shortly thereafter. She was attentive and friendly the entire time. I don't remember her name unfortunately. The decor is eclectic and the place has a definite local, country vibe. I decided to try the catfish sandwich with a side of buttered grits with cheese. After a short wait, the food came out nice and hot. The grits were tasty and had a generous amount of shredded cheese on the top. I enjoyed my sandwich as well. It had two large pieces of fried catfish. The batter was tasty and it wasn't overly greasy. I could only finish half because it was a big sandwich. The menu is pretty simple, but there's still a good selection so you should be able to find something to try. I'd recommend stopping in for a good meal and good hospitality if you're in the area. read more

Stopped in during storm recovery after hurricane Debby. Place was PACKED. There was a single spot at the bar so I sat down. 2 waitresses were running around taking care of everyone and got my drink order and a menu. I ordered the large salad with bbq pork. The food came out really really quick. Exactly as ordered. Huge plate filled to overflowing. Now sit down and listen. The walkway behind my bar stool was not that wide. The walkway led into the kitchen. I'm sitting there, minding my own business, when someone kicked my stool twice. Thump thump. Being raised right, I scooted forward a bit and turned around to apologize. There was no one there. No the place had emptied out a bit and the wasn't anyone sitting next to me. I think it's my imagination when a few minutes later it happened again. I spun around right quick and sure enough, not a single person was within arms length of me. I spoke with one of the waitresses and asked her if the place was haunted. Once I told her what happened, she got excited and told the other waitress about it. Real or not, I felt 2 thumps like someone was kicking my bar stool. Stop by, sit at the bar, order some good food and see what happens. read more

It is hard to believe the high ratings Fat Belly's receives because there is so many things that beg for low ratings. The food is so-so unless you find a dead cock roach in your meal, as happened to a friend while we ate there last week. There is a saying in the restaurant business that if the rest room is filthy then the kitchen is more than likely the same. And the men's room here is unclean to the extreme! We have eaten at Fat Belly's on and off for ten years and following our latest experience will not return. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. read more

A friend recommended my family and I stop in and grab something to eat here while we stayed at the nearby Stephen Foster cultural state park and it was everything everyone hypes about in the reviews on here. We ordered the philly, catfish fingers, and pork and sampled each other's and everything was just homestyle kind of yumminess. You must try one of the gooey bars at the counter as well! Fat Belly's is the only game in town if you're in White Springs. And if it's Sunday you're out of luck, they're closed. And if you're vegan, you won't be happy. But Wayne and Rose's kids are doing a great job keeping the tradition alive with great catfish fingers, along with a variety of chicken, beef and pork offerings. I love the catfish fingers, no bones and great taste. Their Philly Cheese steak is a tasty take on a classic. Their burgers are bigger than most and delicious. Their pork is sublime, with a good array of sauces. My wife loved the half chicken roasted or some such. If you live on a low salt diet and avoid fried foods, make this an exception, 'cause it's 15 miles to Lake City, and this food is good! They even serve beers! read more

We're from Georgia where BBQ reigns and this doesn't cut it. I ordered the sliced BBQ plate comes with two sides and tea. I got slaw and BBQ beans. $8 it comes with 1 slice of garlic yummy Texas toast the sides were both delicious I'm picky about my slaw and this place knows how to make it good but the meat was like thick sliced dried pork loin. I've never seen anything like this I got about 8 2"x 2" squares You will be disappointed I promise. My guy got the chopped Pork BBQ plate said the meat was very chewy and dry but the BBQ beans and fries were delicious.They have two sauces a sweet BBQ one and a mustard BBQ one we liked them both. The bathrooms were clean smelled nice and we did not have a long wait. There are so many choices on their menu if you're a Georgia BBQ brat order something else. We were traveling on I-75 and yelped this gem! It's well worth the short drive off the interstate! It is rustic and charming inside. Dee was our waitress and she was pleasant and attentive. The food was delicious! We had omlets and American fries. The biscuit was excellent. Add in the great coffee and this is the perfect spot for a perfect breakfast! If you are in White Springs this is the place to eat. Pretty much your backwoods bar-b-q with a pretty fair assortment of sides. Nothing real fancy but good ribs, pork, and burgers. Excellent service and reasonable prices. If you are visiting the area there really isn't another decent restaurant for ten miles. read more

Usually when I'm in the area setting up for a paddle on the Suwannee, I'll go to Lake City for a meal while I'm provisioning at Publix. On a cold December morning I wanted to hit the river as soon as possible, and having provisioned the night before, I found Fat Belly's on YELP and decided to eat here. Good coffee, perfectly adequate ham and cheese omelette. Not crazy about the 'home fries' which were fried potato cubes with nothing else. But the service was good, and it is clearly where the locals come. I'm sure I'll stop by next time I'm gearing up another canoe run on the Suwannee. read more

Nice little place to get some great grub! The fat belly burger was great, just a basic cheese burger drug through the garden one of the best I've had in a long time. The catfish fingers were great also, crisp golden batter and large pieces of catfish cooked perfectly. The wings were good also, larger than most of your chain wing places. My father pastored a small church in Live Oak a few years back and Fat Belly's quickly became a guilty pleasure whenever my kids and I visited. This not a place for fine dining - casual is the order of the day. The dining room/bar area (beer only) let you know you're in the country! (Local hunting and fishing are quite good btw) The service is always prompt (sometimes surprisingly fast) and the food is always tasty and filling. Friday nights usually feature a catfish special. Prices are very reasonable. I usually opt for the smoked chicken dinner (half a chicken with 2 sides for $7.99). I don't know how they do it, but the skin is always crispy - that's a trick i haven't mastered yet - and the chicken is moist and not overly smokey. The sauces are probably not homemade, but the chicken is tasty enough without it! Fat Belly's is close to Stephen Foster State Park, the Suwannee Music Park and the Wellborn Blueberry Festival. Pretty much the only place in town to eat. Every time we went by, the parking lot was full and often there were a number of folks outside. That is always a good sign! Food was great. Smoked chicken was outstanding!! Often times they are very busy so it will be a while to get your food, but it is worth the wait. Staff is very friendly and handle the crowds and stress nicely.
