First of all, the giant flag out front is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Everytime you round the corner at Hamburg that big flag is just waving and it's STUNNING. I wish all steak and shakes were required to have a big flag like that! The food, delicious. We are very very late, which we don't normally do, and didn't feel like garbage the next morning. I love the grassfed beef and commitment to higher quality ingredients. The tater tots are the best you can get at a restaurant, eat-in or takeout. This was never a go-to spot for me but the changes have made me visit more often. I'm not sure I love the chicken strips, and I detest ordering from the electronic kiosk. Super disappointed all around.. When you order a burger with ONLY lettuce, tomato and mayo, that doesn't mean to include sautéed onions. Onions are foul, and were not included in the list of only LTM. Burgers also shouldn't squirt grease when you bite into them. Gross. read more

We love Steak and Shake! It has been our go to place for over 10 years. When we are hungry and there is one around we are there! Always the drive thru. The burgers are always great unless someone gets happy with the mustard. Our only issue is when our fries are cold. Steak and Shake has the best French Fries of anyone! But if they are cold they are just like everyone else's! Horrible! I've never understood restaurants serving cold fries to their customers? That's my only issues is getting cold fries that are at the price we used to pay for a Combo! It take between 3 and 4 minutes to cook fries. No customer should ever get cold fries at a Fast Food Restaurant. I will wait in order to get Hot, Golden, French Fries at any Restaurant ! Please work on the Hot Fry every time, Every Order! Absolutely the silliest remodel - ever. The counter (bar) seating is gone. All patrons have to use an order pad - almost all of the interaction with staff is gone, yet the machine still asks for a tip. Absurd! The seating seems to have been reduced. This place has had a complete remodel and change of service concept. I was quite surprised and pleased with my recent visit. They now have a number of kiosks at the front of the store where you type in your own order. The screens are really big and the menu is easy to use. Very similar to ordering on line. We paid with a gift card. I did not see an option to pay with cash, but the gift card worked easily. You get a receipt and a number and you are called to the counter to get your meal. The fountain drinks are now self serve. That is a huge improvement over waiting for someone to bring you a refill! The tables are reconfigured and social distancing enforced. The food was great served hot and with low contact. I do like their smashed burgers with the little crispy edges, and the cheese fries were even better than I remembered. This location has always had some service challenges and I think these changes will really help. Due to circumstances beyond my control it had been over our year since I had been here. It was a Saturday, around noon. When I walked in, people were standing everywhere. There was no organization and I had no idea where to stand. The only way to figure out where the end of the line was to ask the people standing around if they were in line or if they'd already put their name down. Management really need to step up in the organization area. I seriously almost walked out and then a guy explained that the list moves fast. He was right, it was about five minutes after I'd walked through the door and I was seated. I really wasn't expecting to be a restaurant, but it was more up that alley. The kind where you sit down, order from the menu and then waited on by a waitress. So if you're not prepared to tip 20% then go thorough the drive thru. Also, it's not a steakhouse, it's a burger and shake place. Why they call it steak instead of burgers and shakes, is beyond me. I ordered a grilled chicken taco salad but I really wanted to try the fries, so I ordered those too. I forgot to ask for my dressing on the side as I usually do, but they didn't douse it, so I was good. The next time I order it, I'll ask for the tomato paste concoction on the side because I didn't like it. Also, the lettuce wasn't the freshest around, a bit browning in places, but I guess that's what I get for ordering a salad at a burger place, right? The fries were shoe string size, you can pay an extra $.29 and have them seasoned Cajun, and a few other options. I started to choose to have mine seasoned with salt and vinegar but opted for the plain ones instead. I was expecting to pay $1.79 for a small fry, which is the price that the menu listed, but I was only charged $1.25 for the fries as an "add on" side. That was a nice surprise. Overall I had a three and a half star experience, but I'm not sure when I'll be back to update it so I'll round it to a four and leave the burger opinions to the next reviewer ;) read more

This Steak N Shake is near my house, this was my first time utilizing Steak N Shake's online ordering, and I must say it was seamless! I was impressed how user friendly the online ordering system was(better than many other chains that have offered online ordering for much longer). I ordered 2 breakfast meals for my husband and I to share - the Homestyle breakfast and the blueberry pancakes. First, let me say I like that on the "breakfast favorites" you have many options from which you can choose. For the Homestyle breakfast I ordered 2 eggs over easy (options here are any style of eggs - scrambled, over hard, over easy, or sunny side up), with shredded hash browns (you can also choose hash rounds), sausage (they serve Tennessee Pride but you can also order bacon if you prefer), and a bagel (your bread chooses are white, wheat, or rye toast, buttermilk biscuit, 2 buttermilk pancakes, or a plain bagel). The Homestyle breakfast was tasty and exactly what I wanted on a lazy Saturday morning. Next was the blueberry pancakes, I don't see McDonald's selling these in the drive thru. Anyway ... it was 3 large and delicious pancakes filled with plump blueberries with a side of blueberry syrup. The only thing that was missing here was more blueberry syrup and the they forgot to put the whip cream on top as pictured on their website :( It was refreshing to order a large breakfast online, pick it up at the drive thru in your pj's, and it not taste like fast food but more on the level of Cracker Barrel, Bob Evans, and dare I say IHOP! Business is lack luster compared to years prior. Upon arrival to the Hamburg Steak 'n Shake I witnessed a boy puke in the lobby next to the cash register. The boy proceeded to tell the woman working the register last night but nothing was done. The puke sat there for over 30 minutes before we told our waiter. After the waiter alerted the manager there was a powder like substance used to soak it up but was not cleaned up promptly after. It sat there until after we left. On another note we went inside for milkshakes, waited 30 minutes to even be greeted by our waiter after taking our order we waited another FORTY FIVE until the melted milkshakes made it to our table. We would have left and went to Freddy's if packing up a toddler and an infant were easier. read more

I would like to give this place less then 1 star if possible. This is the second time I have felt less then welcomed at this location. The first time a few weeks ago I go in with my 2 younger daughters and notice it is busy. Once we are finally seated. It was over 15 min before our order was taken. I know because I looked at the time when when first sat down. The waitress even stated this was not her section but would help us. Once our food was delivered. She never came back to check on us. Someone else delivered my daughters shakes 10 min after our food came. The second time was just moments ago. We walked in and waited to be seated. It was no where near as busy as before. This time I am with my wife and youngest daughter. After 10 min and numerous waitresses( including the same one 4 times) going by without even acknowledging we were there. Someone new came walking in to do a take out order and the General manager walked up to help her and again not even acknowledge us. We decided to leave and I stayed long enough to let that general manager know how I felt as we felt so unwelcome at this place. Never again will I go there. The best fries ever, the milkshakes are so good and they have a pretty good variety also. My favorite is the very berry strawberry it's just so good my second favorite is the mint Oreo yum! To be honest their should be more stake and shakes around the U.S. their bacon and cheese stakeburgers are literally the bomb and there's just so much flavor in them and they make its to where you just want to buy twenty more to go. Tonight I had the triple steak burger with a side of French fries with the Parmesan and herb topping with a small cup of cheese dipping sauce. I would suggest swing by this place late in the evening after a night on the town or maybe early in the evening before the dinner crowd.
