Terribly slow service! Around 20 minute wait to get a table and once seated after 15 more minutes no one came to take our order (I had to stand up and get somebody). They also offered me one of the new "Fresh Banana" shakes which I then ordered but was told after by the waiter that she forgot that they were sold. To top it off, the food was sub par. Worst experience ever! The diner was short staffed and they wanted to make sure everyone knew it. How you say, let me tell you! The lines were long, the wait was long (to order take out, to be seated, to get your food, to see your waitress, etc.), the tables stayed dirty, the bathrooms were filthy, and the management sucked! After watching our food sit, we asked the only other waitress in the restaurant to check on our food and instead she picked up her orders and the food we desperately hoped was not ours sat. I then asked one of the two managers in the store (Jeff) to check to see if it was our order and he politely asked me to wait. We then informed the other manager (Janice) that our waitress had disappeared and that we were saw food sitting in the window for 15 minutes. The food was indeed ours and the fries were indeed warm so I informed the manager that we would need some new fries. She told me her name and informed me that they were short, and that She was the manager and I needed to ask nicely. I could go on about our conversation but I won't. Let me begin by saying that Steak 'n Shake is my favorite burger joint! They're all I survived on in college, plus the value is perfect with the $3.99 meals. Anyway, every time I go there I'm disappointed by the service. The food is never terrible but you wait so long that you almost lose your appetite. Worst experience for fast food that I can remember. The bathroom smelled like someone had thrown up...should have been a clue. We ordered our food, then sat for 55 minutes waiting on 5 burgers and fries! Just burgers! No special orders at all. The restaurant wasn't overly busy. Delicious! I ordered the steakburger shooters, though small were a great way to sample the different menu options. I had the BBQ, buffalo, and chipotle shooters with a side order of French fries. I don't recommend the buffalo. The Snickers milkshake was the icing on the cake. I had a big smile on my face by the time I completed my meal. The establishment itself felt more like a diner and the customers were a bit more on the older end of the age bracket too. If I could give this location a zero I would. Stopped by to use the restroom and get a milkshake while passing through town. All I wanted was a side by side vanilla/chocolate shake. I ordered that then headed to the restroom while waiting for it to be made. The first stall I opened the toilet wasn't even connected to the floor on one side, and was leaning over... okay fine. Then head out and wait an additional ten minutes for my milkshake. While waiting a lady's order was wrong and came back to get fixed, another couple ordered food after I came back from the restroom and received their order before I got my milkshake. The girl at the front was nice enough but I could see the manager standing around on the line and the cooks barely moving at the pace of a snail. A family stood at the front door to be seated nearly the entire time I was there without being acknowledged. I finally received my milkshake with no "thank you" or "sorry about the wait" and when I got in the car and back on the highway I took a big sip and it's a strawberry milkshake. Thank goodness I'm not allergic, but all I wanted was the vanilla/chocolate shake I had as a child and I received the wrong order after waiting far too long and paying far too much for a flavor I didn't want and was already too far to turn around. I'd call back for a refund but I paid in cash. So no luck with that. Ridiculous. Don't waste your time. Don't waste your money. Oh, and did I mention that the to go girl had to tell everyone while I was there that they had "just run out of ketchup" -- it's a burger restaurant. We came in at about 11 and stood for almost 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us much less seated us. When we were finally sat down there was trash under the tables (and all over the restaurant). By the time a waited approached us (almost another 10 minutes) we had already decided to just carry out. Although this Stonecrest Mall area S&S is not my favorite location to dine, this particular location has a speedy drive-thru. The drive-thru seems to be faster than other S&S locations I have been to. The inside is a little slower on the service side. However, Steak and Shake always has solid food and they have it for a great price. Several meal deals for $3.99 or less have me coming back. Also, they have bomb chili. The key with the french fries is to add plenty of the Steak and Shake seasoning that they have on the table. All in all, this is a solid place to dine on the cheap. One other thing I do not want to forget to mention is that they only charge $1 for Sweet or Unsweet tea. To me that is a huge plus considering Chilis and places like that in the vicinity charge upwards of 2.50 per drink. Good looking out Steak and Shake! Takehomasak today! read more

Slowest I have ever been to! The guy working the window was rude and of course used the excuse of being short staffed. He told me to hold on to take my order at the menu box, then after waiting TEN MINUTES I asked if he was ready and no response. I still waited another couple of minutes before pulling to the window and he tells me I should have kept waiting at the box (no one was in line ahead of me). Wow...usually snappy Steak & Shake service missed this location entirely. On a Sunday afternoon it took 20 min to be seated with 11 tables and booths open. One guy bussing tables at a snails pace. One hostess taking names and wiping down tables with a dirty rag. Once seated, 13 minutes for wait staff to arrive at the table, then another 9 minutes to get beverages.
