Once again, this is a first visit food the family and I. The wife and I ordered the double Jamaican Jerk steakburger. We inquired between that and the 3 pepper steakburger, which was spicier. Our waitress, Mariah told us that the Jamaican Jerk was spicier. It wasn't really. Thank God they had a pepper sauce which brought back childhood memories of good spicy food the wife makes! The burger was rather small though. The burgers at 5 Guys Burgers & Fries was bigger and satisfying although costlier. The kids had steakburger minis. They felt their food was quite small. We went to Steak n Shake for a quick meal, hoping for some great burgers and shakes. We got decent burgers, and great shakes. There was nothing wrong with the burgers, they just weren't anything special. The fries were really good though, and my cookies and cream shake was worth the trip on its own. We didn't have any problems with the service, though there were only a few other tables there at the time. Overall, it was fine- but I probably wouldn't choose to go again for a meal. read more

Our experience started off bad. First there is a handwritten sign in the drive-thru saying it's not in order. Ok fine. Now normally I do not give this chain a bad review but when you advertise half-price milkshakes and it's the middle of the afternoon with almost nobody there and you tell me you are "out of milkshakes," you can bet I'm going to be annoyed. Great burger joint. Very friendly staff. Food tasted good. The staff seemed a bit busy and forgot about a few things of which we had to remind her a few times. Eventually we just took what we needed from another table which wasn't occupied. Love the fact they are open 24/7. We were there at 1 in the morning. The place was about 1/4 full. read more

If you see people saying the food is good at this location, they are lying to you. Take into consideration I came at midnight the past two nights. The food was so so the first night. I came back the second night just in hope that the pervious night was just a bad night for them. I was wrong the food is just bad service was right there to follow. Stopped in after dealing with getting things done for my new apartment and it was 9:35am. I'm the only one inside the restaurant at this time with 1 server on duty. She gets my drink order quite fast, but took almost 15 minutes to come back and get my food order. One worker is joking around loudly with one of the managers about cleaning the bathrooms. Then conversation changed to one persons baby and who the father is. Very unprofessional. Food is good as usual, but that's a small consolation. read more

I came in with my children and husband. We were told they didn't have a table for 5. I advised we didn't mind a booth, as there were several empty that just needed to be cleaned. An employee came into the establishment upset about something, he began to yell obscenities at the manager. It was very uncomfortable, especially having children with me. Not happy ordered cajun fries and they forgot the seasoning we paid extra for ! Then brought that to me in a cup. I asked for Jalapeños on my dog ... They brought me sliced Jalapeños in a cup on the side ...how hard is it to put it on my meal like a asked .... And to top that off my meal was extremely messy yet my waitress didn't feel the need to bring me any more napkins then one .... We love to go to Steak and Shake for their burgers and milkshakes. We don't get to go very often because it's quite a bit of a drive. So we were a little aggravated today at the quality of the food. The service left a lot to be desired also. We never did get any silverware brought to our table. The tea was awful. It tasted sour. It was more than likely because the dispenser had not been cleaned recently. My burger has so much mustard on it that it was all I could taste. It was disgusting. If I could rate 0 stars I would. My family and I waited 20 minutes to be seated when there were tables open all around us. Allbeit they were dirty but they were vacant and could have been cleaned. No one acknowledged us when we came in so we were just kind of standing in the doorway watching the manager talk on his cell phone and the teenage staff congregate in the back of the store. There was food in the window waiting to be taken to its "lucky" new owner with no one to help get it there. (For at least half of the time we were standing there waiting to be seated) The floor in the dining area was filthy and yup... you guessed it... no one was even trying to clean up. Our food was cold whenever they brought it to us and to top our most unpleasant visit off, the rest rooms were even more disgusting than the dining area. I have loaded pics for all of you lovely folks out there to see for yourself. But they do not do justice to experiencing it first hand. We will NEVER visit this location again. read more

First time to order online - - order was totally screwed up and I never did get y shake. I ordered a steak burger with NO tomato or pickle with onion rings instead of fries and a banana shake.....well what I got was a burger with tomato and pickles with fries and onion rings...when I asked for the shake they came back with a bag which I assumed was my shake.....NOT, it was another incorrect order which I didn't find out until I got home. Don't know why we returned after continuous lack of service. Yet again establishment ideas dirty. We anticipated it would take a million years, as it did, so we called in our order. Our server, a thin shaggy-haired young man with glasses, said verbatim "that's weird" when we told him we called ahead. First time I ate at the Fleming Island Steak n Shake last year, waited 20 minutes before I was even acknowledged. Waitress and manager not apologetic. BTW they were not busy. Reluctantly went back a second time (I like their patty melts), waited 30 minutes before a server acknowledged us. I left. Went their again today with a large group of high schoolers celebrating at about 6:30 tonight, as of this writing....we are still here at 9:05pm...some without food. I have ate at this Steak n Shake 2 times. The first wasn't too bad; food was a bit bland (I'm used to the one in Gainesville). However, my second visit was absolutely TERRIBLE. I arrived with two friends at around 1:45 AM for some delicious late night breakfast. We were the only people in there at the beginning; waitress took our order and went on about her way. 3 HOURS and about 15 other groups of people later (one of which got angry and stormed out), we FINALLY get our food. Mine is burnt all to hell and dry. My friends' food was missing a lot of the necessary ingredients (i.e. BISCUITS). It was just terrible. Our chocolate chip pancakes were lifeless with a few cold chocolate chips on top (seriously, where was the powdered sugar and whip cream?). When I asked for some, the waitress rushed off but never returned. We got no drink refills the entire time we were there and the waitress ultimately ignored us to talk to some group that was behind us. About three other tables (large groups of about 6 - 8) had got their food before us and she was just chatting them up. We ended up leaving without eating because of how terrible the quality of everything was. The woman on the cashier only made us pay for our drinks, thankfully. We went to a different one and actually had a quality meal. None of us will be visiting this particular establishment again. read more

First let's start with the drive thru has been broken for already a week.. Each time waited for over 1\2 hour, also, we went there for dinner and a shake o on mother's day. 3 other tables, no manager in store and waited almost an hour for food. We saw our orders in the pass for 7 minutes until one of us went up there and asked for someone to bring it to our table. I will not go there again. Worst service since Wendy's in rush hour. 30 minutes and still waiting for a drink? They only have 3 booths full. I can only blame myself for this but after roller skating the kids were hungry and wanted to come here so I obliged. Quickly greeted and shown to a table, we went to wash our hands and came back to the table and waited 10 minutes for a server. We had to ask someone to help us. We gave our order and then the wait began. Our server came back to our table a few minutes later and said she memorized our order but needed to write it down on paper so we had to give it to her again . I don't know if she understands what memorize means. Kids were busy playing with paper cars but becoming antsy and thirsty (this was after skating). We asked for water as our drinks and shakes were no where to be seen. Several minutes later still waiting for waters. Three servers in the dining room and several people working in the kitchen but things just dragging on here. We finally got our waters followed by our shakes. One of them was wrong:( By the 30+ minute mark from arrival we had received our food. The server did fix he shake error. Now I could be totally irritated with the service but I think some of the blame falls on inefficient management. Three times during our time there we saw what I assume was the manager. He popped out once and looked around made chit chat in the kitchen, then he came out with a clip board and did what appeared to be inventory and then helped someone fix a register error. At no time did he go to the dining room and talk to guests. He didn't glance at tickets in the window. He barely acknowledged that people were actively working, waiting and eating around him. This may be a fast food restaurant but basic hospitality and better management needs to be drastically improved. $30 later and one hour and 20 minutes (we waited for our check for 15 minutes) and we are finally out of there. We were in the front booth on the security minute the entire time if the manager needs to verify the interaction and time stamp. I hope our server gets a job somewhere else and can properly train and be great at her job with a better manager. She was friendly but definitely scattered. read more

Last night me and my girlfriend stopped in to get something to eat after seeing a movie. First thing I noticed when we were led to a table was when i sat down the side of the booth I sat on first the seat bottomed out onto the hard plank under it. So we moved to the other side. We ordered a water and a Sprite and both were brought fast and correct. I ordered the Frisco Melt w/ bacon and she ordered the Chicken Fingers. Both plates were correct and brought out in a timely manner. As soon as our plates were brought to us we ordered 2 shakes. A Snickers mikshake and a Nutella Milkshake. Food was great like it usually is at which ever location I am at. But then the stars started to tick away. Our waiter, who had long brown hair tied yup in a bun named "Garrett", never came by to ask how our food was or to refill either one of our drinks. He walked by to put the check on our table shortly aftwr dropping our food off and the ticket didn't include either milkshake. (I've seen this before and just assumed he put in the order after ringing up the bill and that i would pay the updated bill at the counter.) We were wrong. We waited almost 30 minutes after we put in the order for our 2 shakes and still had not received them. What really made it worst was that our waiter, Garrett, and another waiter whom i did not catch his name were talking against the wall near the drink machines and the unnamed waiter had his phone out and was texting. There were people coming in after us who were seated, waited on, and had already paid and left in the time we were still waiting on the shakes. 2 tables who our server, Garrett, had waited on had dishes and drinks still left on them from the people who had left before we had even received our food. At my job, If we have our phones out at all, expecially when there's customers in the building and/or duties that are not done, it results in either being sent home or immediately fired. After waiting 30 minutes of waiting for our shakes we took the bill and went to the counter and told the cashier our situation and he sighed and apologized (I had an odd feeling it had happened before from his reaction) and said that he most likely never put the order for the 2 shakes in. We paid our bill and then left. The cashier didn't offer to help the situation and more than an apology but he did have nice manners and was polite. I didn't catch his name unfortunately. But overall the only reason I'm giving an extra star besides the 1 is because the cook knows how to cook a mean Frisco Melt. There are rumors that the Orange Park location is the worst Steak and Shake location in Jacksonville. I can understand why those rumors float around. I still left a tip because I know what waiters are paid and I know the hours they work. I'll be taking my business to either the Fleming Island location or the one on Phillips Highway near I95. read more

Dirty restaurant, long waits, and always ALWAYS stuff in my food (hair, once a fly!, black stuff floating in my drink) and our waitress was rude! Okay, the customer service here is terrible. We pulled up a chair to sit down at a table with booths, and the MANAGER straight-up rebuked us because we were "blocking the fire-exit." The hall with booths was CLEAR. There was literally the one chair that we pulled up. And I understand the fire exit policy but why must we be so rude about it. A simple "Sorry guys but for safety reasons you can't put a chair there because it blocking the fire exit." But no it was "HEY, you can't do that. It's blocking the fire exit. Her attitude was piss poor. The three adjectives I would use to describe her is: aggressive, hostile, and definitely difficult. Honestly her negative attitude ruined the mood of the night. This steak and shake was on Philips Hwy by Regal in Jacksonville, FL. If customer service is at all a concern, do not go to this Steak and Shake. I went to "Steak and Shake" today for the very first time in my life expecting great things than what the other fast food chain can offer. It was raining bad, but I have to roll down my window for my order. The lady who took my drive-thru order was not very pleasant. I have to repeat my order several times and she did not get it until the fourth times. She made me wait in the pouring rain with my window rolled down for about 5-7 minutes, because she said she had to ring me up first. I finally asked if I can just wait on the window, and she sarcastically said "fine!". I was such in a hurry to get home that I did not inspect the food inside the bag she gave me. Feeling so hungry, I excitedly open the bag of food hoping that "Steak and Shake" is a better fastfood chain than anywhere else, but to my dismay, inside the bag was a lumpy, greasy, and old thin bun that split apart on my first touch! The lettuce leaf was crumpled like the bun looking so disgusting! I never thought that my first time in "Steak and Shake" could be this horrible! I will never go back at this fat food chain again! I went there once and there was maybe two other groups of two, so they were not that busy. Our food and milkshakes took FOREVER. When it was time to pay no one was at the counter and the manager was sitting down having a friendly conversation with one of the customers at a table. The floors are disgusting. Let me ask them this how long does it take to put milk and ice cream in a blender? Although the milkshake was good the food was cold when it came out.
