My favorite burger place in Florida; great shakes and steakburgers. They have 'em all over the Midwest too apparently, but the one in NYC sucks. Aside from that one, it's not just another fast food burger place. More of a diner style with waiter service, though the place is usually manned by teens it seems (some locations), but the steakburgers are pretty good and the handmade shakes are delish. read more

I like Steak and shake. I think they do a pretty good job with fast food. The hamburgers and milkshakes are several nothches better than the big 3 fast food chains. This is a great place to grab a late night dinner when everything else is closed. They have good hamburgers and milkshakes. The quality of food is great compared to a fast food burger place like McDonalds or Burger King. You can custom order your food and they do a good job at getting it right. read more

I've never had a bad hamburger here, so let me begin by saying that their cheeseburgers are very very good. At 11:55am they couldn't be bothered to serve french fries that were warmer than room temperature. I don't think the people who work here give a darn about food quality. I personally love this establishment. It's open all the time and the food is good, filling and reasonably priced. It's not the healthiest menu but it's a burger grill. They do more than burgers though, during early morning hours (midnight and on) they serve a breakfast menu that includes UNLIMITED pancakes for 4 bucks. They are good too. I come here regularly with my friends and it's always a fun place to be at, it's 24 hours open, one of the few in Orlando, has a waiter always readily available and food and drinks are served fast plus the waiters are very friendly! The food is good enough, it's fast food so that's okay. The most important thing that they lack is customer service. Every time I come into this location I'm waiting for 10 minutes to be seated while there are plenty of open seats and I can legitimately see them chit chatting and he he haaing in the corner. The wait for food is also ridiculous, they brought my table half of their food cold.. I sent it back. The lady offered us water while we water and we got our water and beverages at the same time which made no sense to us. It shouldn't take you 15 minutes to bring water or 3 beverages out. We went for breakfast it took adout 20 minutes just to get a cup of coffee. The place was almost empty but in total disarray. Then the waitress finally got around to take our order and on the front of the menu it show an original breakfast that comes with a coffee and orange juice. The waitress kept insisting the orange juice was extra. We finally order our food and it took so long to get our food we lost weight during the long wait. Several people walked out . Not our best trip to Steak n Shake that's for sure. My husband was hoping to get breakfast. I didn't know the exact time when we arrived. After we were seating it took at least 5 minutes for the waitress to come to our table. My husband asked if he could get breakfast and the waitress said no, it was too late. We went ahead and ordered our food. During this time another couple came in sat in the booth next to us. As our waitress was bringing us our drinks another waitress took the order from the other couple. One if them asked if they could still order breakfast and she said yes. I said to our waitress they are getting breakfast why couldn't we. She said I don't know she should had told them no. We not suppose to serve breakfast after 11am. This is when I see the clock she is looking at. It is straight up at 11am. So apparently we got there in time for breakfast since by this time we had been there for at least 10 minutes if not more. Another 10 minutes goes by and I still haven't gotten my milkshake. We asked the waitress and she said she was still waiting for it to come out. Next thing we see it the couple next to us getting their food delivered to their table. By this time my husband has had it and asked to speak to the manager. She was worthless from what he tells me, just says say she saw them making my milkshake and it should be out shortly, and that they don't serve breakfast after 11am. While my husband was complaining the waitress brought me my milkshake. Several minutes later she brought us our food. My husband had order the baked beans but they did not provide him with a spoon so he had to go up to ask for one. At this point we were thinking no tip for this one. We figured we would not see her again as my husband was pretty upset with her. But, she did come back and ask us how everything was which impressed us. My husband did apologize for taking it out on her and assured her she would get her full tip. As far as the food the french fries were great as always but I was disappoint in both my milkshake and my patty melt. The milkshake tasted okay the texture was really grainy. Usually it's very creamy. The patty melt was supposed to be on sourdough bread but I highly doubt that and it was more pickles than anything else. I pretty much just ate the meat which was very good. This was the worst steak and shake I have ever been to. There system wasn't working correctly and charged me double for my order. I asked to get my money back and they didn't even apologize for charging me extra. The customer service was unbelievably bad. They did not own up to their mistake and made us come multiple times to the location to get my money back just to hear that it would take 5 days to even get a deposit from them. The least they could do was at least apologize and not make us come multiple times to their location. I would not recommend this store to anyone. It's been a while since I've actually gone back here due to the awful experience I've had here. I brought my son and dad to this place, waited forever for the food(asked for my sons to come first but it all came together...having a cranky and hungry toddler waiting 20 minutes for mac n cheese was ridiculous), and I found hair in my food. I didn't feel like our waitress felt we were important. I waited and waited for her to come back so I could have it brought to her attention, but she didn't until she brought the check. At that point, I was hungry, irritated, and just wanted to leave. So we paid and both agreed this wouldn't be a location we would come to again. I used to work at a Steak 'n Shake some years ago so I understand, but two minute check back is a must and we didn't have that chance to tell her the problem. The manager was really nice though which is why it didn't get one star, and my son and dad loved their food. So it gets three stars for that. This was the worst shake n steak experience I've ever had in my entire life. We walked in after having gone to the clubs and the manager of the whole restaurant talked to our servers in front of us and said they were going to call the cops on us just for sitting down in the seats and not even talking to them. Ive gone to streak n shake at this hour wasted before and been treated like royalty. Im not even wasted nor drunk nor tipsy right now. Apparently the manager wants to close the store early even though steak 'n Shake is open 24 hours according to our knowledge. Apparently they had a long night with other customers but the manager was extremely rude and did not even communicate with us, the servers came out to us and explained why he was acting this way. I have worked as a server before and I have never seen a manager act this way he's completely inappropriate and should be fired immediately. He seems like he has something else to do and is treating his customers like shit. Advice to steak and shake fire this man immediately otherwise people are going to get extremely upset. He is probably the reason you guys have two stars. Fuck this bull shit. It's always an experience when you visit Steak 'n Shake. They must have a high employee turn-over, you rarely see the same people twice. Many of the employees look like they're in high school, the manager on duty looked like he was 16... A server cleaned off a table & seats for us using a wet towel. The seats & table were sopping wet, we had to find a napkin to dry everything off so we could sit down. They usually have coupons in the paper, so you can get a good deal. A couple started to leave because no one would take their order... Our server didn't seem new, but we had to ask for water & napkins... twice... The food is good, their shakes are excellent! The girl that tried to ring up the check was having difficulty, she didn't know how to use a gift card as a form of payment and had to call the manager over. Steak and shake likes to draw people in with fancy wording like triple steak burger for only 3.99. Ok great, but I think you get more meat at a burger king in a double. Their fries are mediocre at best and almost always cold. I ordered chicken fingers and I would have gotten more chicken in a McDonald's 6 piece. The milkshake was only half shook and I threw most of it away. At least it's fast food right? Wrong. We sat there almost an hour waiting for our food. The only silver lining to this place was the kind waitress named Jennifer who seemed to be in charge of every table in the whole restaurant. Her positive upbeat attitude and awesome service saved the day. I don't know what was up with the manager who appeared to be chillin and chattin with the other employees and overlooking the whole post church rush with a don't give a damn air about him. I visited this restaurant the night of July 4th, 2014. I sat in the drive thru for over a 1/2 hour. When I finally got to the window, I asked for some salt and was told they were out. I understand that on this particular night it may have been busier than normal, however, you would think management would know that would happen and staff the restaurant accordingly. You would also think they would have supplies on hand for their customers. We're paying for it, not asking for anything for free. According to their sign or "motto", "Quality food made fast". It took half an hour to get our two orders from the drive thru. All I wanted was a simple apology. When we complained, no one offered compensation, and the staff was extremely rude. Instead of saying "Sorry for your wait," the employee said "It's Steak N Shake, this is always how it is." I have been to these establishments over 10 times in the last year, and I have never experienced service like this. If I were the manager, I would look into this long wait time. Personally, I would fire at least two of the employees I had contact with. I won't be going back to a Steak N Shake anytime soon because of this horrible experience. I love, and I mean absolutely love Steak 'n Shake. Their food is amazing and there was a point where I'd go every Sunday for several weeks. The service is usually really great, can't remember our favorite waitress' name but she's always great. Now the last time I was there I started noticing just how filthy the place is. The floors look like they haven't been scrubbed in weeks, there's grease smudges all over the glass, there's trash on the floor that gets overlooked. Menu's are sticky, the bathroom is gross. Most of the uniforms on the waitresses uniforms are filthy. It's just not acceptable, professional, or presentable. And it's such a shame because I really love the food there. It just takes one person to fix this, just one. I don't know why management doesn't care about how the place looks, I certainly would be embarrassed to work there. The workers there seem like they just don't care. They go in, work, and leave. I guess cleanliness is not a priority. I don't think I'll be going back.
