The staff here is utterly incompetent. I have ordered from them on UberEats three times, because hey a mistake can happen every once and again. When your order is consistently wrong multiple times in a row, it's not a mistake, it's neglectful incompetence. Good place for a quick bite; however by the time I'm half way eating my food is cold and the environment is uncomfortable to say the least. The employees wear three layers of clothes and a hoodie. I went through the drive through April 1st, around 3:00pm. Ordered a number 5 instead of fries I asked for onion rings REPEADED myself multiple times and it was still wrong when I pulled up to the window. I sat in the parking lot and placed my order through the app. I immediately went to the drive thru where I was told you gotta come inside. Once inside I was told that they gave my food to someone else, not sure how they even had time to give it to someone else but no big deal. While the girl was making my 5 way I told her 3 different times that it was supposed to be a 5 way because what she was making was a chili Mac. After I received my order i took it out of the bag and looked at it where i found a chili Mac with no Mac sauce and no chili. I asked if i could get a cup of chili and some Mac sauce to which the reply was i made it i know what's on it. I said well i stated 3 times it was supposed to be a 5 way and it's missing both and showed her. She walked away after handing me these things talking under her breath. I said i get it but i worked for surreal and shake almost 5 years and ran 3rd shift i know what the food is supposed to have. I understand having new staff asks being in training but that shouldn't be every employee on shift. And they definitely should get angry when they made something wrong. I'm a five-star-review kind of gal. Normally, if I don't have a glowing review to leave, I don't leave one. I'm a business owner, and I know that business owners can't get it right 100% of the time. But I gave this business owner the chance to make it right, and he has completely blown me off. Not only did I pay for lunch that I had to immediately throw in the trash, but this is also a potential health threat. So here goes. My daughters and I were very hungry after leaving a conference in Tampa and getting on the road to head north to home. They had never eaten at a Steak N Shake. So we pulled off the interstate and prepared for delicious burgers, fries, and a shake. The first bites were delicious, and we were happily rolling north again on I-75, when my 15-year-old cried out that there was a bug crawling out of her burger. Sure enough, it appeared to be a baby roach. I didn't think to get a picture. But I told my girls to throw all the food in a bag and we pulled off at the next exit and threw the bag away. All of us felt a little sick to our stomachs at the thought of eating food that had roaches crawling over it. We didn't even buy a replacement lunch for more than an hour. Nauseatingly gross! Meanwhile, I called the restaurant and got no answer. I called back and spoke with a woman who told me, when I politely explained my situation, that to get money back for my lunch, I would have to return the food to them. Ridiculous. She did not seem to be concerned or surprised that there had been a roach in one of the sandwiches. I was shocked by that, and by the fact that she did not instantly offer to return my $20.91 to my card or provide any other solution. I asked to speak to a manager and she gave me what she said was the phone number for the owner, Brandon. I called that number, and Brandon did not answer. I left a message explaining the situation, letting him know that, as a fellow business owner, I was sure he would want to know about the whole experience. Brandon has blown me off. I've received no phone call and no refund. I fully understand that restaurants may get people trying to scam them out of free food by claiming problems with the food. And I don't have a good solution for that. But I would hope they would at least respond and make a decision based on the circumstances of each occurrence. Clearly, I could show that I was traveling and that it was unreasonable to expect me to turn around and drive back to Tampa to receive a $21 refund for food I had to throw in the trash because it posed a health threat. I don't want to see anyone's business fail or take an unfair hit. But this business clearly needs an upgrade in management, customer service, and procedures to store and prepare food properly to keep customers safe. Pretty sure we won't have the desire to ever eat it another Steak N Shake again. Call to the health department is next. Hope no one gets sick! read more

We went to Steak and Shake after a disturbing experience at portillo sent us out the door without placing an order (gross bathroom related employee issue) we were greeted by a kind young lady who explained the ordering kiosk process without making us feel like we were a bother all while continuing to greet and take drive through orders flawlessly. She brought our food to our table instead of calling our name to come get it. The manager we learned was named Omar when he was out inspecting the dining area and cleaning counters and tables. He was a recent new owner and was very dedicated to changing the perception of this location and shared his intentions of making it more family friendly by eliminating some of the unfortunate situations that are plaguing most big cities. There were no non paying customers in the restaurant and it a quiet and delicious meal. The food was great and we believe Omar is going to do great things with this location! We plan to visit again on our next visit to Florida from Michigan. Nicely done Omar! Keep up the great work! read more

This was the moment. Does Steak 'n Shake deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with Bern's or the venerable but threatened Charley's Steakhouse? I decided to find out! I picked the lowest rated Steak 'n Shake I could find in the area to ensure nobody thought I was stacking the deck or bringing in a ringer! I drove up looking for valet parking but only saw a drive through and a partially shaded parking lot. Plus one star! No mandatory valet parking! As I walked in and saw a guy wearing ratty yet distinctively stained shorts leaving, it was my first clue the dress code was not mandatory jacket or dressy. Plus another star! There was a bit of a crowd at the doorway since a few were ordering to go but I was still pleasantly greeted in mere seconds. I was directed to a nearby table that was remarkably clean! Shanel, my server, smiled, introduced herself and offered me water while I perused the menu. When I started with a shake, she smiled again and said - "they are good!" It's always great to get enthusiastic validation on the ordering selections at a fine restaurant. She really did a great job with service! When I ordered the original double steak meal, I was disappointed Shanel didn't ask how I wanted it prepared. Perhaps, I thought, everyone gets it medium rare? Soon, I discovered the meal came with bread, potatoes, steak, salad, and garnish all combined. How convenient! The construction of this steak sandwich was truly an amazing feat. On top, sour pickles, the bite of onion, sweet ketchup, tart and zesty mustard, sandwiching two medium well "steaks" with "cheese". Below, was a complete salad including the crunch of green leaf lettuce, a slice of tomato and a bit of mayo. All together, this layered masterpiece was a taste sensation! I almost forgot it was medium well, probably for my culinary safety. Thank you for looking out for my health! The fried potato's on the other hand were a bit disappointing. They were apparently of the shoestring variety and well salted and crunchy but quickly losing their snap after sitting on the plate for only a few minutes. Eating the rest became a chore. The shake was both a beautiful and delicious concoction. Half chocolate, half banana, split down the middle, with whipped cream and a perfect Maraschino cherry on top. As I slurped it, I realized I could switch between banana and chocolate at will, or get both in the same slurp. #ElFreakinYummo! I was inspired to take a moment to reflect on the merits of the Maraschino cherry... Did you know, the name originates from maraschino liqueur made with pickled Marasca cherries in Croatia? Whole cherries preserved in this delectable liqueur are the famous "maraschino cherries". They became so popular and the supply so sought after during the 19th century, they were a delicacy only for royalty! And, I'm enjoying one at Steak 'n Shake! I felt like royalty! The clientele were a wonderful, diverse cross section of America. Older couples out on the town, teenagers spending their parents' money, and working people looking for a proper meal. I also discovered they have twice daily happy hour! Every day from 2-5pm and every night from 2-5am, all the drinks are half price! This includes the awesome shakes which are less than $2! Restaurant has been out of whipped cream for 2 weeks now and no end in sight. Whats the deal??

this place was a dirty hell hole. This was my first visit to a Steak and Shake. Disappointing. the waitress was not on point, she puts a pile of napkins and straws on our table and then dragged them onto the floor when she removed the menus and just walked away, leaving them there, with us napkins and strawless. I went up and replaced them. it took way too long for the food considering number of people in the "restaurant". Honestly I've never been in a dirtier fast food "joint" cause that more accurately describes it. There were French fries and god knows what under the counters, being stepped on by staff and this was the soda counter so I have no idea how they could have gotten there. Either there was a food fight before we got there or the rats in here have shoulders. The bathroom was a disgusting mess. If I had gone in there first before eating or ordering I would have found an emergency exit and run out of there!! Water all over the floor and paper towels. there was literally Urine spray on TOP of the urinal!!! Whoever is running that ship better hand over the wheel to someone else. I hope the health department or the S&S corporation reads this. I would complain to either or both but I couldn't care less because I wouldn't set foot in the $h1thole again! I wish I had taken more pix of the copious amounts of fries and other food matter on the floor and under/around counters but we just bailed out of there asap. This place should just shut down. There was a bag of leaking garbage outside the restroom. Our table was all sticky and they already wiped it down. The seat had clumps of sticky stuff all over it. The waitress stand floor underneath the stand had disgusting stuff building up on the floor - obviously have not been cleaned in a long time. How does the health department allow this place to stay open? This is just what we can see, I can only imagine the other areas where food is stored and prepared. They also had issues with their fire door...one of the managers stated out loud - I guess the door is working now as one of the employees went through it and the alarm came on a minute later. Steak N Shake is awesome! They have great burgers and shoestring french fries. They have a bunch of meals under 4 bucks. I think the best thing they have is the chili 5 way. Some of the burgers are really good, like the Garlic Double burger, and the Jalapeno Crunch burger! Service is usually ok... not lightning fast or anything, but if you are patient, it works! My mother and I were driving by, we saw the location it was around 11 AM, and the diner/chef was standing by his car, doing nothing, I probably assume he was locked out of the place but I checked the store hours it said 10 AM. It is a shady place if you ask me. The lights looked dim and dingy from the outside so we drove off and headed to McDonald's.
