Since it's new, the place was busy. Placed our order at 730 got our food for a party of 6 at 744 The sliders we got were the best. We chose medium for the sauce. We also got the loaded fries which had nacho cheese. The tenders were good we got those mild flavor. Kids got the 10 chicken bites to share with some fries. Dave's sauce is very tasty. My hubby wasn't fond of their fountain Dr. Pepper. The Coke was better. Mac n cheese is a little watery. Ticket number on the receipt NEEDS to bigger. Employees were shouting customer's order numbers. We all agreed it was probably because the numbers were tiny. Overall all the food has a ton of flavor. We spent $80 to feed all of us. Today, for the fun of it, I declared a chicken war to see who is better. Bonchon Korean Fried Chicken vs. Dave's Hot Chicken. Winner Bonchon. I bought the requisite chicken tenders, two levels of heat and a side of mac-n-cheese. The chicken is very good, moist, flavorful, a tad spicy but had no crunch. I expected a wonderful crunch...bummer. It was very lightly battered and very lightly sauced. There were pickles included and the tenders were resting on 2 slices of white bread. I'm a big fan of the dipping sauce included. The mac-n-cheese was bland however, nothing special. A pet peeve of mine is that I do not usually frequent chicken joints that do not serve bone-in chicken parts. To me that is a cop-out, where you sacrifice customer preference for convenience, minimal effort and complexity to save time and money. That's just me. The excitement surrounding this place is unbelievable. My younger son absolutely adores it. He has visited twice already. I checked out some Yelp reviews and honestly, I wasn't too impressed. The area is known as University area. Their menu is quite straightforward, offering chicken tenders or chicken sliders, but no chicken wings. I'm not a fan of spicy food, so I opted for the mild tenders with fries, one of my sons chose mild, while the other went for medium. He mentioned he had tried hot before, but it was just too spicy for his liking. For a fast-food joint, I think the prices are a bit steep. I wasn't wowed by the taste of the tenders or the fries, which were just okay. My younger son still loves this Dave's Hot Chicken, but my other son thought it was just average. The atmosphere was comfortable and would be an excellent place to grab a beer, enjoy some chicken and watch a game, if only they sold beer and had tvs. I would give the ambiance 5/5. I ordered the Reaper and this was definitely HOT and was pretty good. The tender itself was jumbo but I feel could have been a little bigger or cheaper at least for what I received. I was expecting it to be a bit more wet as I typically enjoy finishing my meal with the bread saturated with the oils and drippings however, my bread was completely dry and had flakes of only dry seasoning. Needless to say, i had no desire to just eat plain white bread. I also prefer a ranch vs the house sauce for dipping and I am unsure if Dave's offers that. Overall, I enjoyed my visit but if I were to compare them to my other favorites nearby, King of Coop, Crossroad Hot Chicken (Tampa) or Lovebird Almost Famous Chicken (Lakeland) Dave's just lacked variety, sides, sauces and was priced a bit higher. They have a relatively small menu. They sell chicken tenders with fries, chicken slider sandwiches with fries, and some sides like mac and cheese along with fountain drinks. They have approx 6 levels of heat or more, ranging from no spice to reaper. I chose the slider and fries meal at the "Hot " level. ($10) You go to order, and they call your number after 10 minutes. You get a sandwich, crinkle cut fries, some circular pickle slices, and some of their Dave's hot sauce. The term "slider" is a misnomer since it is a full size item. It has a bun, 1 tender with Dave sauce, and pickles. It was crunchy, but not as hot as I was expecting. The DHS wasn't that memorable imo. I think Wendy's, Popeye's are better. 7/10 Crinkle cut fries - It is strange that the high end Shake Shack and this place both have this style. It is the same as stuff you can buy from Walmart. Nothing special 5/10 For Muslim folks, the chicken is halal. I went on a Sunday evening. The lines were out the door which is good for them. However, there are a few things of note. It is a very cacophonous affair with old people, college students, little kids all eating together. Don't go here a peaceful quiet meal lol The A/C is very weak. Tried Dave's Hot Chicken for the first time while I was in Toronto. I went to school at USF, but I do not live local. I had messaged one of my classmates about how good the food was up in Toronto, and they pointed out that there was a location in Tampa. So naturally, after class one day I had to look it up and sure enough it was just down the street. I always ordered takeout before I head home after classes. I usually get either the two tenders or the slider and tender meal. I feel medium is a good happy place for me, but the hot was also good. I am wanting to try the mac & cheese next time I go. I have been craving a real Nashville Hot Chicken experience, I didn't get the chance last year at a business meeting in Nashville :( This place I've read about as a popup years ago in L.A. It's got a crazy Insta following, and they are popping up all over America. Look at my pics, whole they are referred to as sliders, these things were huge. I ordered mine hot with cheese for an extra .49 cents, and with the ingredients they come with, pickles and Cole slaw. These were the greatest, juiciest chicken sandwiches I've ever eaten! Omgerd, frigging awesome! I'd drive an hour to get these. The crinkle cut fries that it came with were crispy delicious and had an awesome mildly spicy coating. Yum. When they made me sign a waiver for reaper spice level I should've known it wasn't a game. The sandwiches were a good size and the slaw sauce and pickles were great. HIGHLY recommend trying Dave's! When they said "sliders" I was expecting a tiny sandwich but this was a GIANT sandwich. I was so blown away by how juicy the chicken was. It was everything you want in fried chicken: well seasoned, thick, and juicy. So thankful for everyone working there, the line was out the door, down the plaza hall, and everyone was still very nice and got the orders out quickly. The inside of the place had so much cool graffiti, I only managed to snap a picture of the "Tampa" graffiti right above the order counter.
