They have a covered parking area down the ramp that connects directly to the elevator, which made unloading luggage simple, and there's also an uncovered upper lot if you prefer that. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious. Unfortunately the road noise was audible and one of us didn't sleep well. They offer free breakfast across the street at Rosie's Diner, which was a nice perk. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd definitely stay here again. read more

We stayed one night at the Steam Plant Hotel while in Spokane. The only complaint we had was the major divot in the middle of the king bed. Roll into that and you're going to have a hard time rolling out of it. That said, if train noises bother you, you will not want to stay here. We were on the 3rd floor and the train runs on the same level across the parking lot. I like city noises when I sleep, so I found it comforting. But if train noises bother you, you won't enjoy it despite the ear plugs they provide. I appreciated the room size, the water pressure and the mini refrigerator/freezer and microwave in the room. The wifi worked perfectly well. The continental breakfast included microwavable biscuits with sausage and egg and multiple yogurts all of which I found acceptable. The parking lot was lit and in eyesight of our room. It was easy walking distance to the River Park area as well as many other restaurants. I felt perfectly safe there. I would have no issues staying here the next time we are in Spokane. read more

The only nice thing I can say about this hotel is that it had hot water when I took a shower. This is a motel not hotel. There are zero amenities that one would find in a hotel. No lobby, just a front desk. Bottled water was by the front desk with no notice of how much the water is but they sure do charge it to your room. I don't mind paying for bottled water but put a sign stating how much it is. The room was disgusting. I slept with clothes on because I didn't trust that the sheets were actually clean. I haven't gotten to the best part yet, the train track literally steps from your door. That runs all day and all night. No mention of a train anywhere on the website or any thing. And carefully angled photos of the property to make it feel fancier than it is without showing the train tracks. Oh, and because a big college sporting event was in town they tripled the nightly rate. Don't stay here. Even the staff said next time stay somewhere else. read more

After posting my review, the manager apologized and offered a full refund. -------- During my stay, I discovered a bed bug infestation in my room, which was incredibly distressing and disgusting. When I originally asked to be moved to a new room, the front desk attendant said they were "all full" for the night and it wasn't until I showed them a plastic bag with a bed bug in it that he offered to find me a new room. They only offered $25(!) initially, which they eventually upped to $75 total, but is absolutely not enough. I was overwhelmed and did not want to fight with their staff as I was traveling alone and concerned for my safety. Once I got home, I had to spend an entire day decontaminating my belongings (basically all of which are still in plastic bags or thrown away) and spend money on cleaning to prevent an infestation at my house, not to mention the itching and scarring from the 30+ bed bug bites I received. I promptly contacted the hotel management, detailing my concerns and requesting a full refund, given the circumstances. However, I received no response to my email, which was disappointing. I had hoped for a swift resolution, but it seems that my concerns were not taken seriously. Guest should be able to expect a clean and pest-free environment during their stay. Perfect stay in December 2024. This is like an updated fancier 2024 version of a classic American motel design. Felt like motels I stayed in during the 80s but with a clean and modern feel. My room was modern. Staff was friendly and helpful, very smooth check in and check out. They provided a gift certificate for certain free breakfast items at a locally owned restaurant just one block away, I can't remember the name (maybe Rosie's?), which was an excellent restaurant with classic American fare in a diner style. I had no complaints during this stay at all and I think this place has probably fixed prior issues and has new construction and management. While I was not bothered by the trains, they do pass periodically, and I had great earplugs of my own which I travel with. Honestly I found the trains passing to not be bothersome and to be enjoyable. This might be an issue for some people, but the hotel does provide earplugs. People who are light sleepers might want to bring earplugs however if they are concerned. Classic motel layout with all rooms opening onto a parking lot but in a sleek modern way, well-light, and likely very safe because there are no unobstructed view of anything. My room was perfectly modern and clean. On picking me up, a local driver told me that this location had a very seedy past, which may explain some old reviews. However I assume things have changed much since then as the place I stayed at was modern, clean, enjoyable. read more

I received a follow up call from the current manager over a year after the incident. She explained to me that because she didn't work there at the time, there is nothing she could do and did not bother to understand what actually happened that night. To my defense, my husband and I were smoking a joint in the designated smoking area outside when confronted by the hotel staff. I was absolutely intoxicated that night (as anyone would be after attending their sisters wedding) which is another reason why we asked the hotel staff to handle any paperwork at a reasonable hour. Lastly, we were forcefully rushed out of our room in the middle of the night and therefore had no time to clean the room. I expected a certain level of understanding and empathy when faced with a bad situation, but unfortunately, this was not the case. I urge you and your management team to reevaluate the crisis management protocols and emphasize the importance of addressing guests' concerns with the utmost sensitivity and understanding. I sincerely hope that this incident was an isolated one and not indicative of your overall service standards. This place was cool at first, but now knowing how they run this business and some of the employees are not professionals. So we (about 6 of us) were drinking on our porch in front of our room and there was a housekeeper that was cleaning a room next door. So, me I asked the housekeeper if she wanted a shot, and remember I'm on a good one, which I didn't pressure the housekeeper in anyway, she said yes, so I gave her one and that was it. Then the supervisor found out somehow and kicked all of out which was 3 families. We did nothing wrong. Not to point fingers but the housekeeper could've said no. Which most workers would've said no. So the manager of this hotel kicked us out. We had one day left and that was it. It's their lost, cuz we (3 families) will not come and stay here ever again and we always come here every year for hoopfest. And again we got kicked for what?! To the manager's response: Well, if it was against policy to drink on the patio, then you should really in force it when people check in because I've seen others do it. Plus, we arrived on Friday afternoon and we drank on the patio in front of our rooms on Friday and Saturday night. The employees saw us and they didn't say anything and we weren't even loud, we were playing cards. Then when it comes Sunday and then you guys say something and then kick us out. We had no warning or anything. Now, was that reasonable? For your employee taking a shot while working is on you guys, not us. I just ask, she could've said "no" Also, when you ask us politely to leave, you weren't polite, you were aggressive at us, telling us that we needed to leave or else you would call the police. I don't know if you had a bad day, but you should be more professional. It's your lost, not ours. To others that want to stay at this place, think twice. So got into Spokane on a flight at midnight got a Lyft to the Steamplant hotel! So ready to have a nice night sleep in a nice clean bed, to wake up and explore the city. Well I was completely wrong because our first room was dirty! Body hair and stains inside the sheets plus a foul odor of cat piss of human piss, can't be sure which. I'm not writing this review to make fun of this place it legit smells like that. Receptionist was super nice offered to upgrade us to a room on the second floor with two queen beds. Upon now entering our second room at 2 AM still wanting just a nice clean bed to take a good nights sleep in. Low and behold we takeoff the comforter and there's a blood stain in the middle of the sheets! Sure it looks like it's been washed but it's that off brown tea color that's left behind that grossed me out. This is c Post covid. Where are the standards. At this time and juncture I am going to sleep on top fully clothed of the comforter with my sweatshirt as a pillow. I will be complaining about this to management tomorrow! read more

We were optimistic, pictures made the place look great! Upon arrival we found an reluctant, yet helpful desk agent, our room was rattled hourly by railway noise. The lights from the hallway glared in our room. But it gets better, our king sized bed had a large, and deep dent in it, and our sheets clearly had NOT been changed to fresh! Gross. At 11pm as we were ready to bed, I had to go back to the ambivalent desk associate and request new sheets. He did offer to move us to a new room; we opted to change them ourselves and tried not to think about the pillows that were from about 1997..... Can't review breakfast, we didn't get to it. I absolutely hate this hotel. It's conveniently located, clean, and the rooms are nice. However, you are completely barraged by trains ALL NIGHT. It's not a mild sound either, it's a barreling thunder with a high pitched squeal as they repeatedly go by your room. I have stayed here before a couple years ago and said I'd never do it again but stupidly thought that maybe the insane train noise was only so bad because our room was so close to the tracks and that maybe a different location in the building would be better. It absolutely was NOT. Even my husband who only has hearing in one ear and sleeps through everything was constantly awakened. There is not one mention of train noise anywhere on their website and they didn't even provide in room ear plugs like they did last time. Our room was nice and clean. We were in a corner room by the elevator and thought there would be a lot of noise, but there was not. Also, this hotel is literally like 100ft from the train tracks, again, we thought it would be horrendously noisy throughout the night, but the sound barricade/wall does a good job blocking out noise and sleeping with ear plugs cancelled out any extra noise. We did enjoy/appreciate use of the free rental bikes so we could cruise around town and explore the river front park. The breakfast was very basic (dry cereal and English muffins) and leaves you wanting more, but they do provide a $5 off coupon for a nearby breakfast place. read more

The room was nice, but i was overcharged!! I went thru AAA app & paid thru them. When I arrived at the hotel they charge $5+ tax for parking, I figured it was because all the homeless around on the streets. I was so exhausted I didn't notice the train right next to the hotel. It didn't bother me but it does run frequently. Then they proceeded to charge $88.84 for the room even though I just paid $112 on the app. 3 weeks later I'm still trying to get that $88.84 back as I only stay 1 night & flew out the next day. If I wasn't over charged & the hotel would fix they're mistake I would give more stars but.....So if you stay here good luck!! read more

I had a rather pleasant stay here. The new ownership remodel years back seems great plus the dark paint outside is a great canvas/contrast to the lovely exterior large artwork that greets you. At certain dark hours just before sleep time, they'll put on some delightful silent film on the south sound wall adjacent to the BNSF elevated train tracks. These seem to be mostly war-era/mid-century vintage dramas. If you have any of the central rooms facing this wall, you could just chill inside your room window and watch it w/o a worry from the weather. Parking is very decent upstairs and in the below garage (the garage drainage could improve). The location, to me, has a nice early century very subtle grungy factor to it. Take all the following and tell me it doesn't suit that kinda nice vintage "Inland Empire" picture (regional term): well preserved nearby steam plant with majestic smoke stacks, elevated busy old railroad, several low-rise brick structures, the wall films, etc. Cool. Room is fairly comfortable and solid heating unit. Clean, nice and simple setup. The bathroom can be rather cold so make sure you turn on the wall heating unit higher, especially when taking a shower. Speaking of shower, I'd recommend they swap in a sliding door instead of the swing door. That would make it easier to turn on the water without first exposing your arm to 2 seconds of frigid water before the impending nice hot shower. Amenity highlights: The lobby photo booth is pretty cool and easy to use. I would recommend a makeshift backdrop until management makes one, if they do. I really liked the game room! It's a very unique, underappreciated and underused space. Here, it's very decent with plenty of board games, throwback consoles, table space, chairs, couch, 2 screen setups, heat and neat overall balance. I heard they had a more diverse collection but had to scale it back. And I totally almost beat GoldenEye007 N64 in 3 days. When the rooftop mini space isn't closed per the season, it seems like a cool spot to catch the sun rise/set and/or that extra 10 feet of city view. :P Staff is friendly and laid back. Less ideal details: Bland breakfast bar. Depending on your noise tolerance levels/preferences and mood(s) during the day, the regular train passes can be great white noise (background noise) or a nuisance to tolerate. The room has locked doors between adjacent rooms. These parts have poor sound proofing so you'll hear any noise/conversations next door fairly easily if you don't have the TV on, etc. Better conservation controls for heated spaces. Ensure game room furniture doesn't obscure proper heating unit circulation. read more

The Steam Plant (formerly, the Ruby2) is a wonderful little hotel. Super clean rooms, friendly professional staff, it has everything you need in a great downtown location - and for the most affordable price you'll find. Yes, there is an occasional train rumbling through but it wasn't a big deal unless you are truly hyper sensitive to city noise, otherwise it's just that...city noises...because you're in the city (also, there are ear plugs in the room upon arrival). My light sleeper husband had no problem falling (and staying) asleep. It's an easy walk to the Bing Theatre for concerts (about a block and a half away), to the Historic Davenport Hotel, and to pretty much any of the great downtown bars and restaurants nearby. We also walked to Spokane Falls and the riverfront park, and it's a 5 minute drive to Manito Park. Beds and pillows were comfy, and the bathroom was nicely appointed and has room for all your bathroom stuff. The only negatives (if I had to come up with any) are that there are no dresser drawers, and the shower door that opens "in" and makes turning on the water challenging without getting sprayed, lol, and the glass went all the way to the ceiling so if you normally hang a towel over the top of the glass, you can't here (just hang it on the handle, or the hook on the wall). Neither is a dealbreaker, and other than those minor nothings, it's such a neat place, I'll definitely stay here any time I'm in Spokane. We ate at Wiley's Downtown Bistro, and Cochinito Taqueria, and we highly - HIGHLY - recommend both, but we want to try the Steam Plant Kitchen & Brewery next time. If you're on the fence about staying here, just do it, you won't regret it. Oh, and we checked in Friday afternoon and were able to park right in front of our room! The only time we used our car was to go to Manito Park on Saturday afternoon and we still got the same parking spot when we returned, so parking wasn't an issue for us. read more

But in spite of it being so close, the train wasn't as loud as I thought it would be. But I don't recommend this place to light sleepers. We've stayed here before and liked it but this time we were a bit disappointed. It is a bit noisy because of the train tracks but it never bothered us before. However, the guy that came to snow plow the parking lot at midnight and sounded like the train was derailing, was bad. The snow plow blade kept banging the ground that it shook the building at least a dozen times. They have also downgraded their full breakfast to a continental. Booked this room on line and didn't see that they charge a $5 parking fee but the guy who checked us in said he was waiving the fee. Booked conjoined rooms on a Friday night while I was in town for a conference. The immediate thing I noticed was the decor of the rooms and the facility as a whole. It felt very cohesive in the choice of art, photographs, and murals they chose to ornate their building with. I am a definite fan of the flowers and the big "HOTEL" sign outside. I don't know, but something about the flowers and the old school feels just did something for me! I really loved the aesthetic, no matter how basic as that sounds - to me, it matters. It's not the most colorful inside and it sticks to white sheets/white walls/occasional B&W photos, but honestly - my main goal here was to have a comfy space to relax when I wasn't roaming around the city or headed to my next workshop. For the price you pay per night in regards to location/space/amenities, you do get what you pay for. The beds are pretty comfy & as are the blankets, so when you're pooped from a long day and need to take a breather you can (and with ease)! There's also A/C & a heater I believe, which is typical of most hotels, but honestly I want to mention it just because when I went it was in the 90's and I know that's not drastically hot, but I'm a pansy when it comes to hot or cold weather. Just trying to be real here. They have a cable TV, a mini fridge & microwave for you to use as well :) and closet space for you to hang your suits and dresses and whatnot. Blowdryers in the bathroom, you know the usual. They do offer free Wi-Fi, which I do admit didn't have the best connection, but I did expect this since there were so many other people staying at Hotel Ruby 2 as well the weekend I went. SO if everyone is trying to be on the same connection, you're going to run into some problems. I did find that I did have connection at odd hours of the night...if that matters to you, but that's because everyone else (including my friends I was rooming with, were sleeping). The best thing about Hotel Ruby 2 besides how it's affordable, is the LOCATION. This especially matters for those of you who may travel here and not have cars, but it's in the center of Downtown Spokane and from the looks of things, so many things were in walking distance (aka close proximity). My friends and I did have rental cars, which did help but if you wanted to take a walk to see what's around and what's happening, you definitely could and feel at ease. Parking in the lot in front of all the rooms is limited. There's a good amount, but have no fear - if they're out of space there you can definitely park in their underground garage :) and find a spot. They do charge for parking, but it's not too shabby per night. Don't remember the exact prices, but checking previous Yelp reviews...Travis T stated that it was about $5/night. See? Not bad, not bad. ALSO, if you're about saving pennies when you can...Hotel Ruby 2 DOES offer a Continental Breakfast. It's not the fanciest, but it's definitely not the worst. I've stayed at places where the free continental breakfast consisted of bread and packaged pastries from Costco....which wasn't bad and I didn't complain but Hotel Ruby 2 gives you a good amount of choices. There were Egg Muffins, Waffles (Blueberry and Original - you make it yourself, using their handy dandy waffle iron), Yogurt, Fruit, Hard-boiled eggs, Cereal, Coffee, and Juice. Pretty decent spread and if you eat enough eggs, throw on some pepper and salt - you got yourself some good eats to keep you going for that morning! The only thing was that some of the hard-boiled eggs were super super cold and you can tell they were either kept in the freezer or like a really brand spankin' new fridge. Those babies were cold, but still equally delicious. Overall, the convenience (aka location) and affordability of Hotel Ruby 2 really helped during my stay in Spokane. I only stayed at this hotel for a night, but the day/night was truly a pleasure and helped me really feel comfortable and ready to take on the city :) or really...the arena the conference was held in - but whatevs. Pretty solid and affordable place to stay at & if I ever find myself coming back, I would definitely stay here again! read more

This place is fabulous! Seriously...great location (if you want to be smack dab downtown), close to great food, entertainment and the atmosphere of the property is super cool! Beautiful artwork is painted on the walls and they show silent movies on the wall of the parking lot at night. Now, the property is located next to the railroad tracks so if you can't take a little noise, just be aware. It didn't bother us at all. Very clean, updated rooms and the staff is fantastic! Ruby does it again. Taken an old 50's era motor inn and transformed it into an eye-appealing boutique motel. And while this one is only a block away from Hotel Ruby, location is key. These properties are right smack in the middle of downtown, where everything is a short walk away. This Ruby is very much like it's sister property, but has far better parking options. Room was well appointed, beds were comfy, and if you haven't seen a Ruby shower, you will be pleasantly surprised. Front desk staff are always friendly, and make outstanding recommendations for dining and leisure activities. Very nice and clean rooms. But this place is insanely noisy! If you're on the first floor, you'll hear every door close, from every room and from every car thats parked right outside your door. If you don't like squeaky floors then do not stay here because you'll hear nonstop squeaks from the people above you. The train that goes by every fifteen minutes wasn't that annoying but my experience was terrible because I got put by a couple that would love to argue, only in the middle of the night! Luckily my second night there, i got a nice wake up call by my great neighbors, who were having a good screaming match at 3:30am. The workers were very nice but I would never stay there again. Check-in went smoothly and the staff were extremely helpful with directions and things to do around town. The room was clean and the added bonus of having a fridge and microwave were nice. I was slightly worried there might be too much noise with the train but it wasn't a problem at all. They offer ear plugs, umbrellas and even bikes to get around so you really don't have to worry about anything. The wifi worked perfectly all evening but was spotty in the morning but that wasn't too much of an issue. The breakfast that was included was okay but I feel you should never expect too much when it comes to a continental breakfast. The décor around the motel was fun and definitely livened up the space. Great experience here. PROS -Heart of downtown -Very clean -Great prices -Off street private parking lots (not 100% secure, but far better than on the street. -Modern, tiled, glass walled showers are very attractive -They have given it a modern hipster decor, especially the exterior, and that is cute, interior is simple and clean -Mini fridge and micro -Coupon for a free drink in their lounge two blocks away (which is nothing special but it's cute and right downtown with large windows) -Steam plant right in front and is awesome at night CONS -TVs are really small and mounted quite high on the wall, not very comfortable. -No coffee/tea machine in room PRO FOR ME NOT FOR ALL -Elevated train tracks 1/3 block away and they run through the night, and are not quiet. I, however, love that!! But I heard other guests asking for the "quietest room" (lol, right), and another saying she slept with ear plugs. read more

NEVER stay at this hotel unless you're okay with being treated like shit by the staff. Jay or "J" is extremely rude and should not be allowed to work with the public. You can tell he is there just to collect a check. Within minutes of walking into the room, I walked back to the front desk to let Jay know the beds were dirty. From the top blanket down to the mattress cover, there was hair and pubic hair left by previous guest(s). He agreed it was dirty but stated he wasn't housekeeping. He said he could change our room, especially after our non-smoking room started filling with cigarette fumes from the man smoking outside our door. Jay disappeared for almost an hour before I went to check in with him. He was sitting in the office watching a video on his phone. He then said, he did not say he would change our room and if we didn't like it, we could leave. This place is a filthy joke. The neighborhood is unsafe. There are gaps in the doors so all the smoke from the people outside comes directly into the rooms. The rooms are not clean. The staff won't do anything to resolve issues and when you bring up issues the staff will talk down to you because you expected a clean room. read more

S T A Y A W A Y Y Y Y Y ! Yeah. We booked this place through AirBnB, it must've been some sort of overflow booking to try to rent out all the vacant rooms via another avenue. But it's really noisy due to train tracks, has paper thin doors, and doors between rooms (adjoining). Plus, we noticed that every fifteen minutes or so we hear this weird high-pitched tone that sounds like a tiny cartoon bomb falling. It only lasts like five seconds, but WTF. Infuriating. Also, it's basically just a hipsterized Motel 6: they didn't even really clean it before just painting it and bedazzling it a bit, adding a few funky paintings and photos, etc. Shrug. AND they didn't provide bedding. There's a fitted sheet and four f**king pillows. That's ALL. What hotel doesn't give you a d*mn blanket? Oh, ALSO: don't park in the lower level parking lot, because if you have a sedan or any type of car that isn't high off the ground, you'll literally scraaaaaaaaaape as you go from the sidewalk to the down ramp. It's really horrific. We told the clerk that we couldn't park down there and asked if we could please reserve a space in the top parking lot: he said nope. Really helpful. I mean...it's cheap, sure--but is it worth it? No, it isn't. It's dirty, unhelpful, and doesn't feel terribly safe, honestly. Stay elsewhere. read more
