Showing up here was just so random. We were walking the streets of San Mateo looking for a bar that serves tequila. Our destination was much further than Steamies but when we saw Steamies, we stopped in. The time we had here was unexpected but absolutely welcomed. The bartender (who goes by Carebear) was so kind, attentive, and amazing! All of the above. The patrons were just as nice and lovely. There was a pool table where we could play. Absolutely loved my time here, can't wait to go back!

Hidden gem for sure. Darts! Pool table. Fire place. Lots of windows, outdoor seating too ;)

Fresh Carne Asada Tacos. They do not skimp on the meat either. Generous portions from El Amigo

Fun and friendly bartenders, cool outdoor pool table, and they now have a taco truck called El Amigo. Their tacos and pupusas are fire. Be careful if you do not like spicy. I like it but I know there are some of us who do not so just let them know if you do not want your tacos spicy and they will accommodate you. They make everything from scratch. Pupusas and a cocktail on the patio during the summer Yesssss!

I recently moved to the Bay Meadows community with my wife, and though our job descriptions, Michelin-starred restaurant Yelp reviews, and cupboard baking ingredients (Doppio Zero, anyone?) may suggest that we're a perfect fit for the immaculate manicured lawns, hoity-toity luxe cafes, and microcreamery ice cream (seriously, what even is a microcreamery?!) shops of the neighborhood, I'm at heart a meat-n-potatoes, Texas Hold'em, classic rock kinda guy. As such, imagine my delight when I discovered this little gem of a dive nestled along Pacific Boulevard, right past the sparkling roofs of SurveyMonkey, Guidewire, and whatever pipe dream incubators are monopolizing the prime real estate immediately west of the train tracks. Steamies is a cozy, one-room bar that has somehow escaped the creeping Googlization of the Bay. It hosts everything you need in a neighborhood drinking establishment--there's a jukebox, a pool table, a dart board, and even a faux fireplace to enhance the ambience--while harboring none of the entitlement Silicon Valley brings. The bathroom hosts amateur artwork earnest enough to warrant a second look. They're open until 1:30-2am most nights, except for Sundays (when they close at midnight). Come for the four TVs that prioritize Bay Area sports teams, but stay for the bartenders friendly enough to switch one to another game if you ask nicely. Thank you, Steamies, for standing as an effortless oasis of realness in this fantasy make-believe suburbia! You know I'll be back soon!

This is a great bar to grab a drink with friends. It is a local dive bar with great drink prices. The bartenders there are great.

Came here not too long ago, it was a hot Saturday night. Luckily there was no line. The restaurant…read moreis located in a nice plaza. Well kept and easy to find. The staff were all nice and friendly. Our server was super attentive. He came by to check on us multiple times. Very nice young man. I forgot his name but he did an excellent job. Very hard working. The food is just your average American food. The pizookie was the highlight. For the meals being $13 and it came with pizookie, I thought that was very reasonably priced. Food was fresh and delicious. I felt as if the chicken sandwich could have used a bit more sauce or flavoring. Other than that it was a decent meal. The experience was awesome.

There is a lack of leadership and it is extremely unorganized... obviously ran by kids who do not care and I'm just sick of it. Last night I went with my family ( I only go to this restaurant if I have too) and we were told to wait for someone to clean our table which was fine. We waited around 15 minutes and some other people took the table we were waiting for.. We had to be the ones to tell them that we were waiting, again, no leadership no direction no help from hosts, bartendars, servers , nothing. Mind you they were not busy they just didn't want to be the ones to help. And if that's not the case, well that's how it seems like as a customer. Service was fine just very slow and we weren't given menus till I had to stand up and ask for some which took around 10 minutes. Ridiculous A couple months ago I also came to this restaurant with my friend (she wanted too, not me) and we ordered drinks, we're in our early 20s (23-24) so she asked for our IDs (tall white girl with brown ponytail) which is standard, but she then held onto BOTH OF OURS while making repeated comments about the vertical format, only handing it back after I answered her questions about it. I absolutely do not appreciate when there's a questions about my ID. I have no control over government issued cards. She did not give me my ID back till I answered the questions. My friend and i were extremely uncomfortable. We ended up only getting those two drinks and a starter and we left. We told the manager with the floral aloha shirt.. he was extremely loud the whole time we were eating talking to the servers about going to certain sections helping with other things. I don't know. It was so loud that I heard all of that. I guess he is a manager... i ended up telling him that the service was very uncomfortable and terrible service and he goes "whaaaattt whyyyy?" what leadership huh? This restaurant is a complete mess and I really hope to see it leave soon. Red Robbins was absolutely better than this. Also, heres this fact from google.. "If you are over 21, your vertical ID is still legally valid for buying age-restricted items, provided the ID itself is not expired." so it looks like my ID is vertical because it hasn't expired yet, when it is expired, I'll get the horizontal. Does that make it better for that girl? she asked so many questions about it. She was acting like a smart ass. That girl looked around the same age as me. Embarrassing.

My husband surprised me with a reservation at this location. My whole family drove out from San…read moreJose for brunch and bowling/bocce. He made this reservation the week before and made sure to make it before 3pm so we could do their brunch menu. He confirmed the activities were open during brunch as well. The day of we were running about 10 minutes late from San Jose so I called to confirm it was okay to which the hostess said they had actually stopped brunch early since it was slow. I had called at 2:10pm and brunch was supposed to be done at 3pm. We were still going and decided it wasn't that big of a deal. Once there they told us our table still had the party before us eating so they'd have to make a table somewhere else. So not only did you give a big table away to someone else knowing our reservation was there but you also stopped brunch early without contacting us to tell us our brunch reservation was changing. Ok no big deal... Then the service. The waitress was okay. She didn't smile, didn't know the flavors of drinks, didn't know the specials. We had to ask the gentleman cleaning tables to have her come back so we can get dessert. On top of this, they told us we needed to be done eating and out by 5:15pm but we can't do this if our waitress keeps disappearing and doesn't ever bring our check. When they did come back our card was not in the check folder. When we asked them where it was they said they had to look for it. Suspicious if you ask me. My MIL works at a very fancy Santa Clara restaurant for over 30 years. She has never been so unimpressed that she wanted to speak to the manager. When she did he also seemed like he didn't care, didn't offer any other help and said they were all busy upstairs for a party. Not an excuse. Then tell my husband they don't have reservations for us if you don't workers or space to properly serve us. Will not be back again. 3 stars because the food was good. That's it.

September 2026…read more Sunday Fun day and Buffet Day! Went with some friends who invited me to join them for a Buffet to catch up on old times. We did two per table since their big tables were taken up with parties of 8 or more, and since we didn't want to wait we split our party of 4 into two smaller tables. I didn't know they had a Buffet here, so this was news to me. Our server was amazing, we gave him a 30% tip. Super on it, was running around getting his steps for sure. I thought the food was fresh, and good. Don't expect amazing food, just decent food. Highlights: the roasted chicken and the make your own omelet was great, the very fun chocolate fondue tower, and great brussel sprouts. Not so great: the salmon lox was very fishy, couldn't finish it. Lettuce was limp, and the prime rib was dry and the ham was even drier. Pizza was meh, and the mimosas I heard had really cheap champagne and tasted awful. I mean it's a Buffet so don't expect too much LOL, but the service was amazing and the place was clean and we did have a good time so 4 stars.
