The crowd here is neither friendly nor hospitable. I never come here expecting a hookup. I come here for the Jacuzzi and that's all.

Ask the Community - Steamworks Baths

Are STDs a fact of Life at Steamboatworks or do members protect themselves generally?

What a dumb question. This has nothing to do with the club. It's a personal choice.

Can you workout nude at the gym? Are there trainers at the gym aswell?

Yeah, you can work out nude. Don't think there are trainers.

Is there a pool still available and how large is it?

The pool is more of a giant hot tub. You can't swim in it. I'd estimate that it's about 20 feet across, and about 10 feet wide. I'm 6 ft tall, and if I stand in the water, it goes up to my belly.

Do you still allow in and out during the same visit?

Yes, they do. I've seen people go in and out to smoke, take a break, etc. I'm sure there's a time limit, though I don't know what it is. You can ask.

What would be the best time to come down on a Monday ? And I heard it's lights out, is it really dark?

It's not dark like at a haunted house, but it's Lights Out. They give you a little key ring flashlight (about the size of a thumb drive) that emits a red light. That allows you to see your way through a dark hallway or any other area that gets… Read more

Where do you go to smoke cigarettes?

You can go outside and come back in.

Do I have to rent a locker?

Yes. In addition to the membership, you have to rent either a room or a locker.

Wanted to ask what the perks were for vip membership because I couldn't find any answers online?

VIP memberships allow you priority check-in so that you can bypass the very long weekend lines. It also puts you to the top of waiting lists for rooms.

My boyfriend is a transgender man. Meaning he was born female but is now a male. Would he be allowed inside with me?

    Absolutely:)

I once had the student free membership months ago , but I'm under 25, on Tuesdays do I get the 30days free membership/locker or do I not?

Yes, free for 25 and under.

I been wanting to explore this part of my sexuality for quite sometime...is this established a good place for a newbie?

I think so. There's nothing aggressive and plenty of ways to explore.

Is this place busy on Sunday nights?

There's no magical day or time to come to Steamworks. There are ALWAYS guys there, and there's no real pattern to who's going to be there or how many will come.

Do I need to be vaccinated to try it out?

No. But you only need to be willing to get couple STDs from the first visit.

Why are you now closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays?

    They're not.

I want to have some consensual kink play is that permitted, I will bring some ropes and an electro box?

If you bring ropes, probably nobody will say anything. But bring a box that shocks people, you're probably gonna be told no. That's a liability for the club.

Are you still requiring you members for proof of vaccines ?miss you much 😘

    Not at the moment.

    What are the busiest days/hours?

    The weekends Friday and Saturday.

Are masks required in common areas?

In Berkeley masks are now optional.

Is it open for newly 18 year olds?

Absolutely! It's actually free on Tuesdays from noon to midnight for guys 25 & under.

Is the first 90 day free student membership Offer still exist?

    Yes, with valid student I.D.

The studio is pristine, welcoming, and set up for total relaxation. I booked an infrared sauna session and added on the HaloOne halotherapy (salt) treatment, and it was pure bliss. The infrared and red light setup is fantastic. Because it uses light wavelengths to heat your body directly rather than just making the room stiflingly hot, it gave me a true, heavy, from-the-inside-out thermal sweat. It felt incredibly detoxifying and did wonders for my tight muscles after hitting the gym. The absolute highlight was the halo treatment. The specialized unit mounted on the wall releases a smooth, calming stream of micro-salt particles that fills the booth. Breathing it in felt so refreshing for my lungs, and the visual of the steam filling the space added a whole new level of zen. Sitting there with a fresh cooling towel, absorbing the red light therapy, and letting the halo stream do its magic was the ultimate luxury. I left feeling completely rejuvenated, light, and relaxed. If you are looking for top-tier recovery or just a private, peaceful escape to sweat it out, this place is a must-visit in Berkeley. Excellent facilities and an amazing experience!

A month ago or so, I was there on a Saturday afternoon, and a staff member comes into the locker room to announce they are about to close. I hop in the shower and quickly get dressed. The staff tell each member on their way out that next time, they need to leave earlier. I can certainly understand wanting people to exit by closing time so that you can clock out as soon as your shift is over, but how about setting yourself up for success by starting with some sort of announcement about closing time? Do they really think all members know the exact gym hours -- which vary by the day of the week? I don't think they have public address system, but it would solve the problem of members not being aware that the gym is closing soon. The public library gets everyone out on time by announcing 30, 15, and five minutes remaining. The YMCA should do the same. One more thing: the men's locker room is has an unpleasant air -- and it isn't just from the men. The vents push warm air in for some reason, making it uncomfortable. I guess it's another way they try to get people to leave.

My biggest gripe is when it can down to pay I owed $120 for two people getting an hour massage and as I was paying and writing the tip I decided $10 for each masseuse would be good since it's slightly above the industry standard of 15%. And let's not forget that a tip is just that, a tip which is optional. I paid them what was due and some. But they were pressuring me saying how they usually get $20 each for an hour massage after I had already written $20 in the tip and $140 for the total. They kept saying how they USUALLY get $20 each for masseuse but they must not understand what the word usually means. It means most the time and that this time they weren't gonna get that and i wasn't going to budge because I couldn't believe they had the nerve, gall, and audacity to tell me how to spend my money especially on an optional portion when I could've gave nothing. Had it not been for my wife offering to cover the extra $20 I would've left them upset. So in the end I had to scratch out the tip and total I wrote so that they could shutup and accept the tip they preferred and requested. It's also very brave and presumptuous to assume I had the extra $20 to spare. And if I paid you're price you can't expect or ask for more tip especially when $20 is 1/3rd of the $60 price point which is a 33.3% tip which I would never imagine giving out. And if I couldn't afford the extra money and I was giving what I could they should be grateful for that. And if I didn't have the tip amount they wanted it's never any business's business to know my personal affairs as that could be rude, traumatizing, and very invasive. All that to say I enjoyed my massage for the most part but won't be returning due to their pushy nature regarding an optional portion of my bill. Please do better!!
