This is our second time at Steed Auto and the guys here are always so helpful, informative, and great to work with. We needed diagnostics done for an HVAC issue on our 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. Came in for a rear brake job (pads + rotors). All was well until I noticed some noise coming from the rear when braking. Brought my car back in nearly a month later and the guys at Steed found out one of the new rotors was defective. They got me replacement rotors and fixed the issue at zero additional cost. I needed a mechanic in the area and had no idea where to go. I looked on Google maps and Steed came up pretty close to me. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. It's always hard choosing an unknown mechanic, especially when you don't know much about cars. You could easily be taken advantage of. I'm so grateful that this was not the case! Everything from the phone call, to taking my car in, to getting repairs was above and beyond. Thank you to Dave! My car needs quite a few repairs, but Dave helped me figure out what to repair first and gave me a timeline for next repairs. I honestly don't understand how this place has so many 5-star reviews. I started coming here after moving to OC and gave them multiple chances. I brought in several cars and had multiple jobs done, so this isn't based on just one visit. Over time, it became clear that they're overpriced for the level of work they provide. On top of that, the customer service is terrible. The attitude is very condescending -- lots of "I've been doing this for X years, so I'm right" instead of actually explaining what's going on or treating customers with basic respect. I constantly felt talked down to rather than helped, and questions were met with attitude instead of clear answers. That's a big red flag when you're trusting someone with your car and your money. I've since found a much better mechanic in the area (not naming them because I'm not trying to promote anyone). Huge difference in both pricing and how customers are treated. Just sharing my experience so others don't waste their time or money. STRONGLY recommend staying away from Steed. read more

I just read the rebuttal written by John, the owner of Steed, in response to the review I posted earlier. John's rebuttal is riddled with three blatant falsehoods. Falsehood #1 John repeatedly claims that before initiating the service, he informed my wife about the significant price increase and that she explicitly agreed to it. This afternoon, I wrote my review about Steed from my office, and my wife was completely unaware of it. After reading John's rebuttal at home just moments ago, I asked my wife, not mentioning about the review, "Did the shop inform you that the price had increased significantly when you went for the oil change?" She firmly said, "There was no mention of the price increase issue at all. I simply told them, 'Please do the oil change, but skip the tire rotation.'" Her response remained consistent, no matter how many times I asked. There is no possibility that my wife would misremember an event that happened just two days ago, nor does she have any reason to lie to me. It is truly disheartening to witness such deceit when there was not a single word exchanged about the service price between my wife & shop. Falsehood #2 John states that I repeatedly used the words "rip-off" and "thieves." I never accused him of ripping me off, nor did I ever call him a thief. Instead, I simply asked, "If you were a customer and saw the price for the exact same service rise from $78 to $180 in less than two years, would you find that reasonable?" "rip-off" and "thieves." might be words in John's head. I fail to understand why he would falsely attribute words to me and then use them to discredit me. Falsehood #3 John accuses me, as a side note, of engaging in the conversation with a bad attitude. However, it was John--not I--who first raised his voice, responded with irritation, and spoke in a confrontational manner. I was told "Go to elsewhere if you don't like it!" This was the customer service I received today from Steed. ------------below is my initial review----------- We recently had an oil change at this shop. When my wife brought back the invoice, I was shocked. The labor charge for "Lube, Oil, and Filter" had been $78.58 in both February 2021 (four years ago) and June 2023 (one year and ten months ago). However, on this recent invoice, it was listed as $180.96--an increase of 2.3 times in just one year and nine months. The total invoice amount was $286.00. Since I had received the same service multiple times in the past at this shop, I called them and spoke with the owner to verify the amount. The owner confirmed that the price was correct. He claimed that they had been undercharging in the past (which I found hard to believe) and that the current price was their actual rate. He also insisted that they had clearly informed my wife about the price increase before proceeding with the service and that she had agreed to it--so what was the issue? This is not a new shop for us; our family has been coming here for nearly 20 years. My wife, unaware of the past pricing, simply trusted my recommendation to go there and agreed to the service, assuming it was fair. But isn't mutual trust the foundation of any local business? I asked the owner, "If you were the customer, would you accept a 2.3-fold increase in labor costs within less than two years?" His response was that pricing adjustments are part of business, and since they provided a quote that the customer accepted, there was no problem. Then, in an irritated tone, he told me that if I didn't like it, I could go elsewhere. Throughout the conversation, I remained polite and respectful, trying to express my concerns rationally. However, the owner repeatedly interrupted me, raised his voice, and displayed a dismissive attitude. He provided no reasonable justification for the price increase nor any effort to explain it calmly. While it's true that pricing is at the discretion of the business owner, I believe this is no way to treat a loyal customer of 20 years. Instead, I was met with hostility as if I were the one in the wrong. It was an unpleasant experience. As I ended the call, I simply said in a calm tone, "You are an ill-mannered person." I will never return to this shop. I will also make sure to share this experience with others in my community. (*The entire conversation took place in Korean.) read more

Obviously, I was wrong. Plus, the 2 minute Google search comment was for you, trying to rob people like me of $178 to do a 'diagnostic' when Google says the need to do such EPS reset is commonly needed after replacing all old tires with new ones. AVOID STEED! Their customer service is absolutely terrible. Cost of service is on the higher side compared to others, so avoid them based solely on pricing is enough. The first few visits were fine, but over time they became increasingly rude and unprofessional (very damn strange behavior imo). In any case, they "recommended" a massive repair without providing any clear diagnostics or explanation. Overheard how they spoke to another customer about scheduling and pick up, straight up rude. I took my car to a trusted mechanic nearby (recommended by a friend), and they were genuinely confused as to why Steed would blindly suggest such an expensive and unnecessary repair! I took my 2021 Toyota 4Runner here for an alignment after lifting the frontend ~1 inch and having two terrible alignments at a tire shop where I got my tires. They validated that my alignment was indeed pretty messed up which I could tell by driving it and also just by looking at the adjustments themselves (alignment cams and tie rod changes made no sense). They fixed it up perfectly and now it drives better than I even remember! I also looked at the adjustments themselves when I got home and they just made sense. I could tell a tried and true process was followed and the tech took into consideration the symmetry of the whole vehicle and how it would handle. It's one of those bitter sweet moments where you are happy how good it is now but also realize how long you had to go without it lol. I would highly recommend getting an alignment here and especially if you've modified your suspension. I also have stock tires at the moment, but from my conversations with them if I wanted to put bigger tires they would help me fit them and move them away from places they might rub (such as the body mount) while maintaining good specs. It's refreshing to find a shop with solid techs that know how to actually use the high tech equipment they have. Just because a shop has the alignment equipment, doesn't mean they know how to actually align a vehicle or how the different specs affect the vehicle handling. The techs at Steed Auto Repair know how to actually align a vehicle and seem to have a good process. I feel like some shops might just fiddle the knobs until things "turn green" and not actually drive the vehicle before or after or think about the symmetry from left to right. As an example, Steed even gave me 0.4 deg of higher caster on the passenger side to account for the road crown. So it tracks straight and handles like butter. They charge a small premium for vehicles with modified suspension, but if you paid all that money for new shocks and springs or whatever, might as well get it aligned by good techs so it drives as good as its worth. And the tire shop I went to before charged a comparable rate and my vehicle felt terrible to drive (possibly even dangerous) even after their second attempt. So you do the math. Shoutout to the people at the front desk also (David and a couple other guys I didn't catch their names), very friendly and nice and could speak to what I was looking for. read more

I went to Steed auto repair for the first time because a friend recommended it. The previous place I used to go to closed down because the owner retired. It's hard finding a shop that you fully trust because I always feel like I'm getting ripped off by a mechanic. I think I've been watching too many bad stories on 60 minutes lol! Anyhow they got me in within an hour for an oil change which was appreciated because I didn't have an appointment. After about 10 min of work they called me into the garage to show me what they thought were immediate problems, and things to keep in mind for future replacement or fixing. They were very thorough! I decided to have them rotate my tires because the ones in front were getting bald. It was a small fee but I didn't mind. Once they found out I was gonna get new tires soon he told the mechanic to not rotate the tires. Basically he said it's a waste of time and to save my money! Awesome! They finished within 25 min. It was a clean job and I appreciate the kind customer service. I'll def be back! read more

Brought my car in on a Saturday morning, they kept my car till Monday. Monday at 9:32 A.M. they call me saying that they were 95% sure it's the fuse. They said they needed to order the fuses (2) $18.99 so I won't have my car till the end of the day by 5 P.M. or next day Tuesday. Here's the strange part: At 9:32 am John calls me saying he needs to ORDER the fuse and it will probably be ready by end of the day (5 P.M.) since he didn't have fuse At 10:54 this man already 1. Put the fuse in 2. Test drove it 3. Said he broke down 1 block (axel shaft broke) 4. Had it towed back to the shop 5. Already giving me a call by 10:54? $18.99 for fuse and they charged me $400 for timing & labor. Only reason I came back was because it was so close to home. My windshield wipers were loose. I think what holds the axle in was worn out so it popped off and that's how it broke it's still weird it didn't break until it got to the shop. They wanted to charge me about $6,240 for a new transmission in August. Gave these guys a $1000 in March for coolant bypass, spark plugs, and coil. And $400 for putting a $18.99 fuse and looking at my car for about and hour & 30 mins on Monday morning. Ridiculous! These guys are rip off. Never coming here again, save your money. Wipers were not like that on Saturday when I dropped off, once I turned on the car it flickered but not like how it did on Monday. Plus you did nothing for $400 $18.99 fuse. You kept my car so $400 doesn't sound so bad when you keep for two days or pushing it to 4. read more

Honestly owners don't know enough about suspension to recommend anything I went to remove a ball joint which they said they could do only thing was that it was a after market arm and the owner said the ball joint was permanently attached to the control arm and said I could order the arm with them for 500$ just for one. online there 500 a pair anyways I ended up taking to another shop they charged me 20$ to remove and replace ball joint honestly I would always recommend getting another opinion before going with steed auto repair read more
