I had an extremely upsetting and unprofessional experience at this dental office. I originally went in for a routine cleaning, but instead of a normal visit, I was handed a long list of supposed issues with my teeth and told I needed a "special cleaning." On top of that, they tried to pressure me into scheduling a wisdom teeth removal for the very next day, which immediately felt rushed and unnecessary. Trusting my instincts, I sought a second opinion from another dentist, and, unsurprisingly, none of what I was told was accurate. There were no urgent issues, no need for any special procedures, and certainly no reason for immediate surgery. It felt like I was being pushed into expensive treatments I didn't actually need. To make matters worse, they attempted to get me to pay over $8,000 upfront. During my visit, the dentist also made me extremely uncomfortable by repeatedly touching me, including my chest area, while speaking to me. This was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. The only positive part of my visit was the woman who assisted with my X-rays. She was kind, professional, and made me feel at ease. After deciding not to move forward with any of their recommendations, I called to request a refund for appointments I had scheduled in advance. What should have been a simple process turned into a frustrating ordeal.... it took four phone calls and over a month and a half to finally receive my refund. RUN!!! I switched to this office because they accepted my insurance. I only needed a simple crown replacement on a tooth that had zero issues for over 10 years. After my appointment, I spent the next five days in excruciating pain--pain I never had with the original crown. When I called, I was brushed off and told that "pain is normal after a crown." I had to push just to get another appointment. I saw Dr. Gephart, who gave me the same line... until I insisted something was wrong. After finally examining the tooth, he discovered the crown wasn't sealed properly and that there was a gap exposing my root. His solution? Remove the crown and redo it. So now I'm terrified, in pain, out $1600 out-of-pocket, my insurance already billed, and I have to go through the whole process again. I took more time off work and had the crown redone. On top of it, they billed me for the new crown, which I refused to pay for. Fast forward two months: I'm eating a piece of bread and the crown falls off. Again my root is exposed and I'm in severe pain. I called the emergency number--only to be told no one could see me and to "call Monday." I was flying out of the country Monday morning, but still no effort to help me--not at this office or any Smile Generation location. Overseas, I found a dentist who was shocked that a crown had fallen off after only two months and that my root was still exposed. I had to pay again to have it put back temporarily. When I returned, I called Modern Dentistry and was told the soonest appointment was 10 days out. Only when I said I would write a negative review did they suddenly "find" something sooner. At that point my trust was completely gone, so I cancelled. I've now had three major issues with this crown, I still have root problems, and the crown still does not fit correctly. And now I'll have to pay another dentist to fix everything I already paid this office to do. I will absolutely reaching out to the Board of Dentistry as well. My husband visited Steele Creek Modern Dentistry, 2114 Freeman Park Dr, C 100, Charlotte, NC 28237 In February 2024, for a dental procedure. Before the work was done, I specifically told the office manager that my husband is retired and has 100% dental coverage with no deductible. I personally requested that they verify his coverage before starting anything, and they assured me they did. After the procedure, everything seemed fine, until March 2025, when my husband received an alert that he had a medical collection on his credit report from TEK Collect Inc. We immediately contacted the dental office, and they told us we had a zero balance and said they would "look into it." I disputed it with TransUnion, but it came back as "verified." I submitted a grievance with UHC, no resolution. Finally, on April 29, 2025, I called UHC again and got the most wonderful agent, Chrystal, who was everything the dental office was not: professional, caring, and ready to find a solution. She confirmed on the spot that UHC paid the claim in full months ago. Chrystal even offered to call the dental office directly and provided all the payment details. You would think that would solve it, right? WRONG! The office manager at Steele Creek Modern Dentistry was rude, dismissive, and shockingly unprofessional -- truly the worst customer service I have experienced in all of my 62 years of life. While the insurance company was on the line, ready to help, the office manager arrogantly said: "Well, we didn't receive it, and we don't have it." No apology. No effort. No basic human decency. She refused to even attempt to trace the payment. News flash: when an insurance company tells you a payment was made and gives you all the information to verify it, you make a phone call and verify it. You don't gaslight the patient and leave a wrongful collection on their credit! The stress of this call caused me to have a panic attack. That's how deeply wrong and traumatizing this experience was. My advice: Not everyone is qualified to interact with live human beings or animals. ( Dead beings either ) Steele Creek Modern Dentistry If your office manager cannot handle basic insurance issues without hostility, she should not be in a position of customer interaction. Empty vessels with no empathy should not represent healthcare offices where patients trust you with their health and their finances. Y'all, I don't like leaving negative reviews -- in fact, I usually don't leave one at all. Last year, I dealt with two incompetent attorneys whose services disappointed me. But because they showed basic human decency and professionalism, I chose not to write a bad review. Today, however, my cup runneth over. When you're treated without respect, compassion, or accountability -- especially when it affects your credit and your peace of mind -- it must be exposed. If you value your health, your finances, and your peace of mind, Stay far away from Steele Creek Modern Dentistry. BOTTOM LINE: I do NOT recommend Steele Creek Modern Dentistry. If this is how they handle insurance and treat patients, I fear for anyone with billing issues or anyone who expects basic human respect. I recently switched to this Dental Clinic and i believe I've found my go to place for dental care. All screening and services were professional, clean and client focused. It's a definite "Win" so far. the office staff listened well and were on top of things. The dentist has to be one of the best in the area and all the technicians I've seen are fabulous. As a team everyone knows their role and executes it perfectly. I feel heard and if there was a glitch the team would address it and would see it as an opportunity for process improvement. Absolutely the best dentist I have ever experienced. I just moved to Charlotte and need some extensive dental work. Today I went in for a deep cleaning, extraction of a broken tooth and graphing. I felt absolutely nothing. I've very anxious when it comes to the dentist and have a very low pain tolerance. The doctor was amazing!!! The staff of polite and personable and the office is clean. Just moved to Clt and needed a dentist so my mom actually recommended this place to me and it was wonderful. The woman who took my xrays was the best! She was very encouraging and rooted for me the whole time while I struggled with the xrays, (mind you, I am 32) but it made a world of difference! The dental hygienist was great as well as she really thought about me and my needs while doing the cleaning. Dr. Gebhart was very quick and efficient.
