Be leery of this place..their billing practices are suspect...they billed me a few times for things that made no sense...they don't return calls about insurance questions...you have to wait months to get an appointment...I went to a different dentist today only to find out I have some serious periodontal issues that Matthews family dentistry did not indicate... They don't do a good job cleaning teeth....myself, husband and child all found out at the new dentist that we have issues that could have been dealt with, with more thorough cleanings and more thorough check-ups... I have come here several times for clean ups and other things and never had any complaints. They are always very up front with the payments, the send several confirmation/reminders of upcoming appointments, always work with you and your schedule. BE VERY CAREFUL‼ In Oct '24, I went in for my bi-yearly cleaning. All was good. They used a "NEW" piece of equipment. It showed some gum recession. The Dentist said it was a "covered" expense (with THEIR insurance which I had for four years) When I found the cost for this procedure was $800.00+ AFTER INSURANCE, I hesitated. I wanted to check with Delta Dental Insurance, but was told by MFD that Delta wouldn't cover me for 4-5 months, and this procedure couldn't wait that long. Believing them (22 years with this Practice), I went ahead. It took 20 minutes. THAT'S $40.00 A MINUTE! I called and checked with Delta Dental, and I could have been covered within 24 hours being I had previous insurance coverage. Their "misinformation" cost me $478.15 EXTRA DOLLARS, as Delta Dental's payment would have brought my cost to $337.00 TOTAL. Never again. read more

During a recent visit (my first visit) I was advised that I would need x-rays and I only authorized x-rays that would be covered by my insurance. I was clear that I do not need x-rays, however they assured me they would be covered by my insurance since they were preventative. However, I received an invoice shortly after the visit, and I was advised that excessive x-rays were taken and all were covered by insurance. I have never had to pay for x-rays before and never had any cavities. I called multiple times and sent written correspondence to Matthews Family Dentistry (MFD). I was able to talk with the billing dept. for MFD, however she indicated my message was forwarded to someone else within MFD. It has been several weeks and no response. read more

I've had such awesome experience at MFD.I had leave my previous dentist.I had a great dentist and I didn't think I would find one that I could trust again.Dr.Jay is awesome.He's nice and funny and tells me what needs to done and what can wait.He has no problem refilling oral care maintenance products that my previous dentist has me using. Dr.Kashyap, and Dr.Carver are also great and had to help me one time when Dr.Jay wasn't in. Lydia is usual the assistant during my procedures and is nice and sweet especially when I tell her I'm nervous.The same goes for Rachel who assisted Dr.Carver. Amber and Crystal have always been nice and helpful when checking out or getting me a estimate.Jen was nice during my hygiene appointment. 18 years ago, I reluctantly came to Matthews Family Dentistry. Having had terrible and painful dental experiences as a child in Japan as well as a young adult after 4 wisdom teeth removed resulting in dry sockets and infection, I decided to give Dr Patel's office a chance. My fears over the years have diminished and now, I have no fears. Dr Patel has been my dentist all these years and I trust him and his sweet staff. He has shown me over the years that he will only do whats comfortable for me and has been patient and caring along the way. Very disappointed with todays visit. Husband was scheduled for an appt. at 11a. He was placed in a room around 11:15a. It was 12:15p by the time they were ready to attend him. Yes, office staff kept checking up on him and ensuring he was fine. Yes, they told him why there was a delay. But that is a very long time to wait! In addition to the wait there was so much confusion as to what he was scheduled for. They numbed the wrong side of his mouth for fillings. They decided to numb the other side as well. From that point it was a very long uncomfortable treatment. We had to cancel our kids afternoon appt. since our entire schedule was ruined by this long delay. I made a fuss about it and had to make sure that there would be no cancellation fees and that they understood how frustrating this visit was for my husband. We were promised a $35 reduction in our bill. Appreciate the the thought but the cost for services are quite up there. My out of pocket is always a hard pill to swallow. I'll keep an eye out for that credit regardless. 1. My advice to this office is please be considerate of your patients time. No one should wait more than 5 minutes after their appt. time or once they are placed on the dental chair in the back. Long waits and treatment mixups are very unprofessional. If you (drs) charge cancellation fees because you feel your time is valuable, then extend the same courtesy to your patients about their time and the money they pay for your services. 2. The waiting area feels like a dungeon. Extremely small with dark walls and little lighting. Not a welcoming set-up or atmosphere. Makes one dread dental visits all that more. read more

The dentists are all penultimate professionals, as are the hygienists. Finally, I have found my new family dentist! Since leaving my hometown over a decade ago, I have been searching. I have tried multiple dentists in multiple practices all over the Charlotte metro area, and at long last, I have found "the one". For the first time in years, I left the dentist feeling good about my teeth. They worked with me on financing and timing, and my whole experience- from friendly appt setting to hygienists, to the dentist themselves- could not have been better. I was very nervous going in after avoiding the dentist's office for a while and was greatly reassured by Dr. Carver and especially his assistant Rachel. They addressed my concerns, gave me a referral I needed, and came up with a plan for the future. I'm looking forward to going back in to see them again. They fit me into their schedule very quickly and their staff even helped me figure out that I had dental coverage of which I was unaware. I would definitely recommend their practice in the future. I've been going here with my children for several years. I like the fact that they don't force you to get x-rays unless needed. I don't have to watch advertising videos about teeth whitening. They don't recommend gas for children's cavities, and when I first transferred to this dentist from another with a treatment plan for my children, Matthews Family Dentistry told me that a cavity actually didn't need to be filled. They are willing to watch a little spot on one of my teeth. So overall, it's been a good experience. Recently, one of my children was given a treatment plan for 8 cavities after having no problems for ages though. Concerned, I got a 2nd opinion and was told that with good dental hygiene the spots might be fine. We will just watch the spots, taking a conservative approach, for now. I expected at least a call to schedule an appointment with me by the end of business. Their website states 8-5 Monday - Thursday. I came to this practice to have a general cleaning. The oral hygienist was very friendly and thorough. She said my teeth looked great and said she didn't see any cavities but that the dentist had to look at them. The dentist came in, glanced at my teeth for 2 seconds and proclaimed I had a cavity in my wisdom tooth that needed to be extracted by an oral surgeon. He never looked at my x rays or did a poke test. I thought this seemed strange since I had no pain saw nothing on my tooth that would indicate a cavity. I went to another reputable dentist to have a second opinion. They took x rays, did a poke test and put a small camera in my mouth to show me there was nothing there. Absolutely no cavity. Had I listened to this man at Matthews Family dentistry I would have spent thousands of dollars and risked the side effects of oral surgery unnecessarily. I will never trust this practice again. read more

I arrived for my cleaning and waited ten minutes at the desk before a hygienist stopped at the front to tell me someone would be with me. The receptionist finally arrived and told me my appointment had been "doublebooked," meaning they have given my cleaning appointment to someone else because they had an incorrect phone number. I'd received an email reminding me of my appointment, but not an email saying I would lose my appointment if not confirmed. I showed up for my appointment on time to be kept waiting, then turned away. The receptionist did not offer to reschedule, just kept stating the "policy" over and over. This is not the first bad experience I've had at the desk. The dental staff have been excellent, but I will not be returning due to customer service issues. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Patels since we moved here in 2000. Growing up in a military family, dentistry was a world away from what Dr Patel offers. Even having 4 wisdom teeth removed at once as a young adult (terrible and painful experience) was done by a dentist who had numerous complaints and legal issues - I didn't know this at the time). He had packed up and ran off before I had my followup appt. My fears would cause panic attacks when I would have to have a procedure done. Dr Patel has been very sensitive along with his whole staff from the beginning and today, the fears are gone and I have total trust with Dr Patel and staff.
