Got my eye exam a couple of months ago from another Dr., whose prices for frame and lens were too high. My insurance allowed me to get frame and lens for up to $150. for a $10. copay. So I got a copy of my prescription and began searching for a place that accepted my insurance as well as being able to keep within my budget. The person from Stein Optometric that I talked to said that they could help me. Rode over to the mall and explained my needs to the person at the desk. She took my insurance card and asked me to wait as the insurance was checked out. After about 5-10 minutes, she said that my insurance was fine. I was then turned over to a lovely person named Frial. I told her my needs and the budget. She showed me the frames in my price range and had me try on the ones I liked. I finally chose one and she completed the fitting process. Told me that it would take about 2 weeks to get the glasses made. No prob. I wasn't in any rush. That was on a Monday. On Friday of the same week, I got a call from Stein telling me that my glasses were ready for pick up. I asked the person on the phone if she was sure, since I had been expecting it would take a couple of weeks. She replied that sometimes the turnaround at the lab is faster depending on how busy they are. So went over there and picked up my glasses. Frial again helped me make sure everything was fine and I left a happy customer. Only complaint-wish that all of the people there were as personable as Frial. read more

Great experience here. Called and made an appointment for the next day which was so easy. My doctor was clear, quick, and clearly told me all the options available to me and let it be my choice. I actually moved up to the bay a few days after this appointment, so although I tried to pick them up in person, I ended up moving before the contacts arrived. I called and explained my situation, and they kindly shipped my contacts up to me! I picked Steins Optometric when I finally got vision insurance, and I am so happy I stumbled across them. I never write reviews but my appointment was canceled here after waiting months to be seen. Workers have tested positive and yet they refuse to close for the rest of the employees. We all need to do better to stop the spread of this virus. This is not fair to the workers, clients, health care workers, and the rest of the community who is social distancing and taking proper precautions. I had a really pleasant experience at Stein. My insurance covers glasses here, but I've put off getting new ones through sheer lack of time. But finally, I can't see well any more, and my frames are falling apart, so I made an appointment. Dr. Cook was quite patient and informative, answering all my questions, which were many after about 10 years between eye exams! Before I went into the exam, I spent about five minutes with Maria, and while I was inside, she took the few things I was able to communicate--favorite color, frame shape, etc.--and put together a nice array of frames for me to try once I was done with my exam. After, we spent probably another half hour, at least, trying on, rejecting, and comparing frames until I finally came down to the two I wanted, one for walking-around glasses and the other for reading/computer glasses. The frame prices were a little more than I would have spent on my own, but the ones she found for me were so flattering that I couldn't say no; and when you're like me and buy them many years apart, it's worth it to get what you want, when you do get them! I'm looking forward to receiving my new look. So i'm revising this down a star, for two reasons, one a problem at Stein, and the other not. They forgot to take an important measurement when I ordered my glasses, and my order got delayed for four days--two over the weekend, a day waiting to hear back from me (I was away), and a day until I could go back in and get measured. Then I waited another 10 days and called to see what's what, when I found out that my glasses had come in, but that my insurance lab had sent them with the wrong prescription. What I didn't know is that Stein doesn't do the glasses themselves, they send them out to my insurance lab. So that's disconcerting. That would have been fine, but I would have liked to know that up front, instead of finding it out 17 days after ordering the glasses (and still not having them, maybe for another week to 10 days!). read more

He remembers me every time and is personable and professional. The ladies at the front are great! They spend time with you helping you select the perfect frames and make sure to answer all of your questions and address all of your concerns. I had to write about Maria at Stein Optometric. This proves there are still kind people in this world. I had purchased eyeglasses elsewhere that were not fitting and were just plain uncomfortable. While shopping in the Burbank Town center my husband and I noticed the Stein shop. We walked in and were greeted by Maria. I told her of my problem of my glasses and without hesitation she stopped what she was doing and had me sit while she professional adjusted my glasses for a perfect fit. I absolutely loved the experience I have had here over the years. The doctor (I forgot her name but she is so sweet with wavy/curly brown hair) spent so much time with me making sure I got two frames I could afford. When I broke one of the frames within the first month they didn't make me feel terrible, and sent it in to be covered under warranty. Now I'm back a year and a half later with bent frames which Rachel expertly fit to adjust to my face free of charge. I've been a patient here since 1996. I got abrasions on my corneas right after I bought my first convertible. Dr. Au saw me right away He sent me to Dr. Stein for a secondary consult without me having to ask. They are professionals who treat you with serious medical attention not "medical theatre" the staff is super friendly and fun. They give me a 20% discount for being a nurse. Vets, seniors and uninsured get discounts too. When Costco opened I was tempted to take the Rx there. My daughter said "Mom, don't you want this place with the real doctors to be here anymore?" She was about 11 yrs old, she was right though. If my frames need adjusting I can just pop in and the same great people who helped me pick them out and fitted them just right will adjust them back to new again. Try that a Costco on a Saturday. Get your Charmin at Costco, get your eye care at Steins. It matters. read more

Shady Business. Stay away. I went here to buy a pair of prescription sunglasses. The apathetic sales staff was barely willing to get out of their chairs behind the desk to help. I picked a frame and they went about pricing. They consulted a pricing sheet that was faxed from their other office but the prices were illegible. So they called over to their other office and came up with a bogus price. When I asked why the one I wanted was $250 more than an almost identical frame by the same brand priced out they couldn't give me an answer. I went in the hallway and called 2 other opticians that sold the brand I wanted. Sure enough they told me for the same thing it was 250 less... Beware of this shady business. Do yourself a favor and keep looking. Re: The response It is your job to educate both your staff and customer about these differences. It also your job to present clear pricing information to the customer. Neither of these were preformed. I gave my prescription information to your staff. In shopping elsewhere I have also given it to another optician and Maui Jim. I have been informed that the more expensive option is not necessary for my light prescription. What irks me about my visit to stein optometric center was not so much the price and "miscommunication", but the uneducated staff on both the product and pricing. These differences should have been clearly explained and laid out at the time of my potential purchase. Instead I was presented with a shady pricing sheet with illegible blobs and no explanation on a bogus price. I can only review my experience in your store, but I would have to rate it as poor. read more

I want to give this place five stars but the fact is they gave me sunglasses with a red tint when I asked for grey... but I ended up liking the red, and it was the same price, so I kept it! But the fact remains that IS kind of a huge mistake. But let's not get ahead of ourselves! Getting an appointment on the weekend was super easy and when I arrived there was maybe a five minute wait. The doc was fantastic, he answered all of my questions and explained a variety of potential causes for the headaches I'd been getting. Among other things he also discovered that while I do have a .5 degree level of astigmatism, it only manifests itself to .25, so my old glasses were actually stronger than they needed to be which was causing my difficulty focusing for distance. I was not pressured into trying contact lenses or lasik surgery as I have been at other places, nor did they take any offense when I told them I brought my own frames to use. There was no sales pressure for extras I didn't need and I was given all of my payment options up front. (I could only use my insurance on one pair, either sunglasses or normal lenses, so the girl helping me out showed me all the math on which way would save me the most money.) I will absolutely, 100% be back here for my next eye exam! read more

It's inside of the mall, kind of a weird location for an eye doctor. The clinic is nice, but the whole thing is a bit salesy. I'm not sure how but every time I go to buy glasses I end up spending so much money by the time I get done with the anti-scratch lenses and anti-glare, etc. Furthermore, I recently went to a new optometrist and they had a machine that doesn't need to blow air in your eyes. As that was by far the worst part of the exam I only wished I knew there was an alternative years ago! read more

Came into my optometry office wanting to order contacts as I was out and moving back home. They usually have them in stock so I came in assured they would have them. The girl that greeted me told me that they were not in stock and had to be ordered. I was not happy but I know it was my fault for waiting until the last minute. But let me also tell you, she was in no way helpful. She came back with a few trials that she kinda just threw on the counter for me to take and was very rude. I understand I was a bit angry but it was at myself not at her. That is not great customer service! She could have been a lot nicer about the situation. While she was checking her stock on contacts, Raquel came out and asked how my glasses had turned out (since she was the one that helped me with those) and asked if I had been helped. I told her yes and that was when the girl with that tattoos came back and began to be rude. Raquel stepped in and offered to have contacts ordered and shipped to my home address since I was moving back home. She apologized about the inconvenience and offered a solution which was by far more helpful than the other girl and a hell of a lot nicer too. People like her that can make a bad situation better are definitely worth coming to. If you are ever in this office, make sure you ask for Raquel! read more
