Steiner's is an unassuming storefront on a bustling street and should 100% be your first stop any time you're in the area. Our kids were seeing a show at a local theater with my in-laws so we needed somewhere to kill some time waiting for them. We stepped in and were immediately greeted by the sweet older woman working plus an amazing aroma of freshly baked bread. We quickly ordered as many more people were coming and going in the small shop. I picked the apple strudel and a seeded rye loaf. My husband chose mini baguette and a pretzel for our daughter. Sugary sweet towards some customers, I have now encountered a bitter, mean-spirited wife serving the counter on more than one occasion. What makes this behavior all the more inappropriate is due to the large effort I made years ago when they were about to lose their long-established Manhasset retail location. I spent much personal time in an effort to help them retain their customer base. And the Steiners knew it. So, imagine my shock to be spoken to rudely, recently, when I inquired about the same baked good, the wife had only minutes ago steered someone away from for being "from the day before and not fresh." Her exact words as I heard it from two feet away. When I questioned the freshness since it was the last chocolate muffin, and my spouse adores chocolate, I was loudly told - in front of other customers -- to "never come back ." It was like someone threw cold water on my face. I was shocked. And you should be, too. This store is too tiny not to be heard when you favor your special customers and allow others to purchase day-old baked goods. Even if they are high end day-old baked goods. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde behavior has no place in a local Port bakery. read more

A cute little shop. Very friendly service. Answered all my questions with a smile. Their rainbow cookies were awesome. You can taste the almond and it has just the right amount of chocolate. The Meltaway was a show stopper. It looks so unassuming but one bite and you're back for more. Delicate and just sweet enough for a sweet tooth fix. Amazing apple strudel!!! We finished it so quickly that we did not even take a picture! The apples were fresh, not canned and just a bit sweet and tart with a slight amount of cinnamon. Just perfect! The pastry was very light and flaky. I don't know how anyone could improve this pastry, it was the best I have ever had for strudel. I also bought a fresh loaf of dark bread that was so delicious! Half was eaten with soup and the other half will be great buttered with toppings for open faced sandwiches! So happy to discover this bakery! read more

Really happy to see this icon of a bakery is back in business just one town over from where they used to be all thanks to a greedy landlord who pretty much kicked them out of their old space where they were at for years, but I digress... I'm not sure what goes into making their melt aways but holy moly, just that alone is worth coming here every day for. Their fresh baked breads are hearty and delicious and they'll slice it for you too if you like. Tried their blueberry tart and it was just pure heaven!! Bought two pies for Thanksgiving. The pumpkin was extremely small and about the size of a Mrs Smith pie. I only wish it was half as good as a Smith pie. Really nothing special and any store bought pie we be ad good if not better. The second pie was an apple pie and while I cannot rate its flavor as we never even cut it I can say again it was extremely small. I seem to remember in the past their pies were more bakery size. read more

Pastries are excellent here-- I've literally loved everything that I've tried and due to working from home indefinitely right now, that's a good amount of pastries :). I also stuffed my face with them before snapping photos because..well..quarantine eating habits. Standouts are their famous meltaway ($15), which tastes like a cross between a almond croissant-crumb cake-and danish. It's huge and it was gone within the first 30 minutes in the house between three adults. Their Italian baguette and rugelach ($1.85ea) were also great. They have a jam filled raspberry horn that was also stellar. Everything I've had was at peak freshness and just really good. Staff was also nice and efficient. Unfortunately I had a horrible experience with Steiner's this past week. It was the first time I was using the bakery. I called and ordered a birthday cake on Tues July 13th for pick up on Saturday July 17th. On Tuesday Steiner's asked when I would like to pick up the cake, I said 10am. They asked if I could make it 11am and I said sure. I went to pick the cake up at 11:30 on Saturday and it was not ready. No apology was given and they just asked if I could come back in 25 minutes - since it was for a birthday party I could not wait nor come back. They did cancel the order but again no apologies at all. I will not give them another chance. Carvel came through as always with a delicious ice cream cake. read more

Needed a pastry fix today. Heard there was a new bakery in town and had to try it. Bought the meltaway, cheese danish, pound cake, brownie and rugelach. Brownie had a pleasant texture, not too sweet, and was perfect for any chocolate craving. Meltaway melted right in your mouth with a burst of cinnamon and almond flavor. Not only was the baked goods fantastic but the lady behind the counter was extremely nice. You can count on me visiting this place often, although I may have to go and increase my exercise activities with all this delicious calories! read more
