We've always had a hard time finding a good lunch stop in Cle Elum while traveling through on our way to Seattle. We finally went to Stella's and had the most amazing panini sandwiches! This is by far my favorite lunch place in Cle Elum and it's neat the westbound I-90 entrance! You have to drive through Cle Elum a bit to get to it but it's worth it. read more

After reading the rave reviews, my mother and I went for lunch. We were so looking forward to the chop salad. We were not met at the door by Ralph as it seems everyone else has been. Oh yes, he was there. We ordered chop salads and a sandwich to go. After waiting for 45 minutes and noticing that others who came in after us were being served, I approached the counter to inquire where our order was. After getting the employee's attention, who were visiting in the back, I was met with blank faces. They inquired as to what we ordered and one told me that they were out of mushrooms! Like I asked? They never said we'll get those salads fixed and right out to you. They offered nothing and no apology. All this time, Ralph is standing right next to me at the counter. Not a word! There was a customer standing there (who it seems knew Ralph) and she apologized! I was so dumbfounded by their actions I just asked for a refund and left. We would recommend this as a good place to grab a bite. If was very friendly and clean. They have a nice beer selection which is unusual for a coffee shop and the best bathroom in town. And yes they wore gloves when handling our food. read more

Last weekend my fiance and I went over to CleElum to check out the "Rails to Ales Brewfest" at the restored train depot in So. CleElum featuring craft brewers from the NW, food and live music. We also wanted to do a little antique shopping and visit the Swiftwater Cellars Winery located at the Suncadia Resort. She had heard from one of her co-workers that a old friend of hers had opened a small cafe called Stella's located at the west end of CleElum next door to a bike shop. We had no trouble finding it and it took less than five minutes from exiting I90. When we pulled up to the cafe there were some people out on the front sundeck and there was a large man wearing a apron that greeted us. He introduced himself as Ralph, the owner.We took a look around and checked out the rustic decor inside and out and the choices of handmade ice cream. We both split a beer and then sampled some of the ice cream. While talking with Ralph, he said that he was thinking about adding stuffed French toast to the breakfast menu. I told him that I would gladly be his guinea pig and try it the next morning. The next morning we showed up and had the stuffed French toast with blueberries and a creamy yogurt like filling along with a scramble mix. We both gave it TWO THUMBS UP. We tried some of the delicious pastries and headed off to do some antique shopping and told Ralph that we would be back later in the day for some of that awesome handmade ice cream of which there is ten flavors to choose from. After visiting the winery and the Farmers Market in Roslyn, we came back to get some ice cream. We had the Tennessee Whiskey, Kahlua Chocolate Almond, and Skagit Strawberry flavors. Yes, the Tennesse Whiskey was our favorite even though alot of the flavors have NW themes. We also got some delicious sandwiches to go and headed out. Ralph said he was fortunate to have a friendly and very knowledgeable staff with alot of experience in the food service industry and culinary arts. That allows him to feature vegan meals along with other fresh and healthy eats. He uses all organic products and aome of the produce is picked fresh daily right out of the garden on site. He also gets eggs from free range chickens raised locally. There is a good selection of juices, soft drinks and bottled water. Washington State wine is offered as well as a selection of bottled beer featuring some locat craft beers for the adventurous and Bud and Bud Light for those who haven't discovered what craft beer is all about. To say the least, this place totally exceeded our expectations. From the rustic western cowboy themed decor and friendly staff to the outstanding food, this is the place. Stella's close proximity to the Coal Mine Trail, Iron Horse/John Wayne Trail and Suncadia Resort make it a great starting point, rest stop or trail end for mountain bikers, hikers or horsback riders. Plus it is less than five minutes from I90 if you are just passing through in a motorized vehicle We will make Stella's our home kitchen away from home. read more

This has a great gluten free menu with gluten free bread and gluten free cookies. There are also chips available or this allergy. When the food came, the bread looked very inviting with grill marks. When I took a bite, the bread turned out to be very good. When passing through Cle Elum with a gluten allergy or without, Stella's is a great place to stop. read more

Cute tiny cafe. The sandwiches are so so good! A little pricey but you can tell everything is made with fresh ingredients and prepared to order. My only complaints are how small the space is and the side options with sandwich meals. The fruit is sliced apples in a ziplock bag and don't seem very fresh, I never eat them. I would love to see a side salad or maybe fresh veggies added as a side since they don't fry anything so they can't do fries. read more

Keep driving!!! I had the same wimpy veggie sandwich with maybe 8 veggies on it and paid $1 more for GF. Our meal took 30min!!!!!! Ridiculous. And no heads up it would be that long. No compensation. We had been told about Stella's from friends who pass thru Cle Elum on there way to Seattle. We made a point of stopping buy for lunch and will now continue to stop in when we pass thru. My daughter and I each had the grilled BLT with turkey and avacado. Excellent, although next time we will split one as it was more than we could eat. Had lunch with friend here on a road trip from Snoqualmie to enjoy fall color. The food was very good - curried chicken coconut soup and turkey BLT on grilled ciabatta bread - and the price fair. Charming staff and interesting, hospitable building with deck. We will return. read more

I went in during the afternoon and asked if they had a menu I could take back to my office so my co-workers and I could order-out. After standing at the counter without being greeted for 2 minutes, the not-so-friendly young lady told me no, they didn't have any printed out... but I could maybe go online and see the menu.. but she wasn't sure if that would work either. So. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I went back to the office and googled "Stella's Cle Elum". Found nothing but a link to Yelp and a link to Facebook. If it's this difficult to try their food, and if service was anything like the first impression, we'll pass. read more

They have WONDERFUL food and deserts BUT...they never wear gloves. Every time I go in there, I am hoping I will see the girls and Ralph putting on the gloves to make sandwiches and salads but Nope. The box of gloves sits untouched. They go from ringing up your order and touching the cash register which is loaded with germs and bacteria to making your salad and sandwich. My friend who works for the health department has been in there twice and couldn't believe it..they are such a great place but if they could get their act together and put on the food handling gloves, they would have more patrons. I have over heard many moms standing in line noticing the same thing and last time I was in, the couple behind me walked out after the girl said something about it to her boyfriend. You can see the kitchen and stove right from the cash register so you can see everything...not good. Please STELLA'S.....HAVE ALL YOUR EMPLOYEES WEAR GLOVES when putting the food together. I just had to add this to the Cle Elum restaurant list. I'm pretty sure they just opened up today. The owner came into my business this morning, handed me a menu, and described the place to me. I thought it was very cool that he was going around town letting people know that Stella's exists. First look at the menu, and I'm very excited as they have vegan options which they proudly display. Pretty rare for the east side of Washington save for your college town. All of their ingredients are organic and/or locally grown, eggs from cage free hens, no partially hydrogenated fats and oils. So, with all of this you would expect the place to be a bit hippy which can put some people off. I went in for lunch and it's just a great little sandwich shop with some indoor and outdoor seating. It's a small family owned business that is also an espresso place so they open early. If you're going out on the river they offer boxed lunches that are very nice as well, and convenient. Not that it would bother me, but it doesn't have that hippy vibe. Just people who want good and fresh food. For lunch I ordered the Peoh Pt. wrap veganized and it was really good. Super crunchy and fresh veggies with a great wrap. My husband had the albacore tuna melt and said it was the best tuna melt he's had in a long time. He eats tuna melts everywhere, by the way. So, we'll definitely be coming back to this place again and again. The owner also said that they're open to making things the way you like them, so don't feel caged by the menu. All in all, I'm super happy to have a place that I don't have to go straight to the salads (although those do look awesome) and my husband the carnivore can still find things that he likes. Also, on opening day they are equipped with a license to purvey beer, so you can have a pint with your sandwich. Points scored for me there. read more
