Came here for an after dinner sweet treat and was immediately impressed with the number of dairy free ice cream options and gluten free cones. Three of us got DF ice cream and we immediately knew something was off. All of the DF ice creams tasted like coconut even though none of us ordered coconut ice cream. Obviously they use coconut milk as their alternative but the coconut flavor was overwhelming. When you can't taste the mint in a chocolate chip mint ice cream and instead only get coconut something is wrong. Flavor variety is nice, I like that there are numerous dairy free options. The seating is kind of awkward but I'm not sure what a better alternative layout would be and I know there are constraints. Their service is so on and off. I've had subpar service so much to the point where I expect it to I worked when I was a teenager and was still expected to provide solid customer service. At a coffee shop, a good number of employees were in high school and absolutely were incredible. I can vouch for Cookie Monster Ice Cream. It's blue. Just like Cookie Monster. It's got four different kinds of smushed up cookies folded into it. Drop a scoop or two in a white chocolate coated waffle cone for an all-out happy assault on your tastebuds. Lotsa sugar though. No sugar free options that I know of. Open lateish, 10 during the week. Stopped in to get my son a tasty treat after dinner. Many different flavors to choose from. The names didn't have descriptions so we had to ask what a few of them were. It would have been nice to be offered samples but there was only one guy working and there were a few other groups of people in line so I didn't ask. I settled on Circus Circus which was delicious. We were having dinner down the street and came here for dessert. Located on the corner of Main St and N 8th St., a mini restaurant row, it is very small, with minimal seating. Since it was about 95 degrees outside, more indoor seating would be nice. I had a scoop of Blue Moon on a waffle cone. The scoops are small, compared to Ice Cream Alley in McCall, which I frequented a couple days ago, where the scoops are gargantuan. Somewhere in between would be nice. Blue Moon had a nice, tart, berry flavor. My wife and daughter liked their flavors as well. The employees always act like it is such an inconvenience to help customers and answer questions. I've been to the Eagle location multiple times but this was my first time at the very crowded and busy downtown location. There's not a lot of space and with a line deep with about ten to twelve customers, it can get claustrophobic. I was expecting that there were only be a couple of vegan flavors like the Eagle location but the downtown location has about fifteen vegan flavors including Rocky Road. Geesh. I haven't had Rocky Road since the 1980s at the Payless Drug Store. Stella's Rocky Road vegan version is absolute heaven. Creamy - Check Crunchy - Check Marshmallows - Check Chocolatey - Check 10 out of 10 The staff moves the line along very quickly and if you're fortunate to grab a seat by the window, you get a ringside seat to the craziness that walks along the street. I'm visiting Boise and decided to do a little ice cream tour while I'm here. I am allergic to gluten and dairy so I was excited to see all the options they had available. There was a bit of a line out the door when I arrived but the two ladies working the counter were super fast and offered great customer service. I taste tested the vegan Bluemoon which was a little tart and sweet and very creamy. In the end I got a gluten free dairy free waffle bowl with the vegan mint chip. Sometimes vegan ice cream can be sort of icy but this was extremely creamy. My only small complaint is that the base is coconut and toward the end that flavor overpowered the mint a bit more than u would have liked. Overall though the cone was amazing and I would definitely return again in the future to try all the other flavors. There was only four places to sit because there was a manager, giving her employee who I think was the store manager her review. Let me be clear, these were absolutely Stella's ice cream employees. The manager was loudly telling the employee everything she was doing wrong, like not replacing the battery in the open sign. She also was complaining about ownership, going over in detail why that location has a retention problem, making the employee go over why every single employee quit and then the manager went on to explain why the last manager was fired. This went on for a full hour. Again the place was busy and they were taking up seating that should've been available for the customers. I felt so bad for the employee. The manager just kept talking, louder and louder and louder because the place just kept getting busier and busier and busier. I ordered the Nutella Cheesecake Ice cream to go between my ice cream sandwich that was half brownie and half cookie. I normally don't order something that big but when I noticed that the cookies where freshly baked I had to try it. I didn't taste the Nutella in my ice cream but it had yummy chunks of cheesecake in it. My cookie was perfect and fresh but my brownie was extremely hard unfortunately. My fork broke because it was that hard so I couldn't really eat it unless I broke it with my fingers. If it wasn't for that inconvenience my dessert would have been perfect. It wasn't a big deal for me. Im sure they would have replaced it, if I wanted to walk back to complain. My youngest ordered the mini cone, I loved that they had that option. I've been coming to Stella's for a while now mainly because their donut humps are awesome and they have fun flavors that rotate all the time. Tonight was my first night at their newest location in the heart of downtown BOI off 8th and Main. The shop was designed very similar to their other location - bright, clean white walls, their menu largely presented behind the ice cream bar in same changeable letter sign display. The available flavors are a little jammed stacked on top of each other which makes it rather hard to reach but it works. The entire place was spankin' clean to adhere to COVID-19 protocols, greatly appreciated. I chose a small cup of animal cookie ice cream with whip, sprinkles and a cherry. The flavor was pretty good, but nothing especially unique. There was a substantial amount of animal cookie pieces in the ice cream, however the ice cream itself is just vanilla dyed pink, I assume. Overall, it was very appealing to the eye, however mediocre to the tastebuds. I'm still giving 4 stars because Stella's continues to innovate their products to keep their brand alive and new. I have no doubt they will soon because a Boise must-try if they keep up the awesome work. read more
