Wedding planning is not for everyone... and when I was planning my wedding in 2017, I discovered that everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. My (now) husband and I had a whole destination wedding planned that ended up falling through last minute and instead, we ended up getting married in our home town, Chicago. Faced with last minute scrambling to get a ceremony venue, reception venue, officiant, invitations, and everything else I think it goes without saying that I was in full panic mode. This full 180 of our wedding plans included a need for a new floral designer which brings me to this review! Firstly, Ryan Turner (the owner / designer) is SO nice and extremely helpful. I went into the process with next to no idea of what I wanted except that I wanted white and pink flowers with next to no greenery. We met him at his office which is a bit hard to find but well worth the trip. It's in an unassuming building on the west side but as soon as you enter his studio you are overwhelmed with the gorgeous floral displays and enormous coy fish pond. Very zen and appreciated by this stressed out bride-to-be! After our first consultation, we were able to nail down the flowers, bouquet sizes, boutonnieres, and center pieces. Since we were trying to operate on a budget I wanted to use our bouquets as the center pieces. I caught a lot of grief from other florists on this who wanted to make more money on extra arrangements, but Ryan didn't bat an eye and instead showed us really pretty vase options for our bouquets. A week before my wedding, one of my bridesmaids who originally wasn't going to be able to make it, changed plans and was able to come. I was shocked to find out that Ryan was more than willing to add another bridesmaid bouquet to our order last minute. He couldn't have been easier or better to work with! The big day came and the flowers were delivered on time and they looked beautiful! Naturally, since we had an outdoor wedding with no cover, it poured with rain literally all day long. But no matter, the flowers stayed beautiful! In fact, we got married in the morning and they lasted all the way through the night on our reception table. I really wish I could recommend Ryan the owner of Stemline. Me and my fiancee had a really good meeting with him to discuss flowers for our wedding. He had some great ideas and listened to ours. We left with a good feeling and thought he would be the best choice as a florist for our wedding. It was a little difficult at first to get a hold of him afterwards but he apologized and he sent a proposal with very good pricing. My fiancée reviewed his proposal and had a few questions. So she tried to get a hold of Ryan. But no response after emails and phone calls. So I tried and no response. We were actually worried that something might have happened to him. So we asked our wedding planner (who recommended him) to contact him. When we met with her two weeks later, she said he never called her back. Because of the lack of response to any of us, of course we decided not to go with Ryan. I know that artists are not always the best business people but not to respond to potential clients or an established wedding planner is just self sabotage and poor business practice. As of today, months later, we still haven't heard from Ryan. Obviously we found a great florist who actually met us at the venue and responds immediately. Planning a wedding is anxiety provoking enough, but not to have a florist who was recommended not respond to emails or phone calls is just unacceptable. Even if he did respond eventually, we couldn't use him because we wouldn't even be sure if he would show up for the wedding. Based on other reviews, this has only happened a few times so we truly hope he is ok. read more

We were originally scheduled to get married in April and had to move it to the fall. With all the changes due to COVID I feel like we had to update things every few weeks. Ryan was so helpful, accommodating and supportive during the whole ordeal. On the day of the wedding my family tried to have him change something without my knowledge, Ryan handled it like a true professional and involved me in the discussion, making sure it was truly what I wanted and help back me up on our original plan and vision. I was looking for flowers for a wedding and Ryan not only had the best prices, but the most creative and fresh ideas and flowers that I saw! Even though he wasn't doing the venue flowers as well, he treated me just as special as any other bride with more $$ coming in the door. I was nervous as I had a pretty specific idea for the flowers and it seemed different than what I had seen in his previous work. Since I got along so well with Ryan and his quote was the right price, I decided I would trust him and cross my fingers. Just to be sure we were on the same page, Ryan offered to do a mockup a month prior to the wedding date. Boy, did he deliver!!! I feel like our budget for florals was healthy, but certainly nothing super-extravagant, and Ryan made sure we really got a lot for our money. He was really flexible with any changes or additions we needed to make, and very responsive. We had an initial consultation with him in his studio, and let me say, the studio space is one thing that sets Ryan apart from the rest. You can see the vases, the votives, the candelabras, and all the other decor pieces that he uses to design the floral setups. Out of all my vendors that we used for my wedding, Ryan from Stemline Creative was the one that I am the happiest that I went with!! I could not be more thrilled with with way everything turned out. I had a bad short experience with Ryan from Stemline Creative. He's shockingly unprofessional and has an attitude problem. The consultation with him went well and he came up with some great ideas. We were happy when we left the consultation. However, after a few exchanged emails he became very unprofessional. I'm not sure how other brides were able to work with him so easily. We made one request regarding the contract before signing. It was a reasonable request seen on almost any contract - to receive our money back if the flowers weren't delivered. Although he honored the request, he was very defensive about it and seemed to take it personal. A professional would have just done it (if they agreed) and not have given a defensive response back with it. This made me hesitant to sign the contract because I did not like the attitude that was given. It made me wonder what would happen if I made another request in the future. I didn't have time to reply to his one or two emails because of my crazy work schedule. He emailed me with the words "I never followup with a client this much after sending out a proposal, but I'm a bit confused?...Did you move forward with another florist? If so, this is completely fine. Dragging me along over the past 2 weeks, however is VERY frustrating." How unprofessional! The client has the right to take their time on deciding. It wasn't even two weeks since we last spoke and the wedding is nine months away. He probably shouldn't use the words "VERY frustrating" or "dragging me along" in an email to potential clients. I've been a fan of StemLine on Facebook for months now so I've seen a lot of the beautiful work Ryan has created. I've been amazed at some of the unique and stunning arrangements and it's obvious how much effort, time and creativity go into Ryan's work. I had met with 4 florists before being referred to Ryan. Some had attitude, others had no respect for my budget quoting me $500+ dollars over our budget. So by the t,I've I met with Ryan I was beyond skeptical. He met me at his studio on a chilly January Sunday. It meant the world to me that he was willing to accommodate my schedule---offering weekend & evening appointments! And I can honestly say from the moment I met him my skepticism went out the window. He was kind, friendly, professional, and honest. Having gotten quotes beyond our budget previously I was very upfront about our somewhat modest budget and he didn't flinch instead he worked with me to create a vision that fit within our budget and exceeded my expectations!! Additionally he always responded in a timely matter. When we had to add two table centerpiece a few days before our wedding he said no problem. When there was a flower for my bouquet that came in and wasn't up to his standard he offered several other options and was even willing to contact other flower markets he didn't typically work with to find the original flower---I declined as I loved his other suggestions. He went above and beyond throughout the process! But perhaps what meant the most was that he checked in every few months to see how the planning was going and if I had any questions. He delivered my flowers to the hotel the day of my wedding. He took a personal interest in my wedding and business! The words don't exist to describe how absolutely amazing my experience with Ryan was!! Honestly, From beginning to end, it could not have been more perfect!. I was recommended to Ryan by a friend of mine who experienced him for their wedding last August. So I decided to reach out to him and after numerous weeks of research in Chicago florists, he was by far the best. Note that I was planning my Chicago wedding from SC so I had NO idea what to expect from a pricing and style standpoint. So I put in my due diligence and again, Ryan came out on top. He was so flexible with ideas and put me at ease, always telling me that if I don't know 100% now what I want, it is okay and that everything can always be changed. That felt so good to hear because you never know if you have a last minute idea, but I knew Ryan would support it. Regarding the contracts, it was VERY clear what was written and the items that were TBD were based on either myself not deciding, or us not knowing the total numbers. All in all though, his prices were SOOOOO much less than the other flower vendors I talked with. On top of that, when we had our first in person consultation, my family was amazed because I kept raving about Ryan to them, and they wouldn't believe it until they saw what the "contract" consisted of (thinking it wasn't going to be that much since the price was so good). Boy were they surprised. Their entire outlook on our Chicago wedding changed after meeting with Ryan for the first time and seeing his pieces. The remaining 7-8 months went by extremely fast, but I never doubted the flowers and how they would turn out. Come to our wedding day in late July, and as I walk into the ceremony, my bridesmaids and I just about passed out because of how stunning it looked (I will add pictures once I have them from my photographer). Ryan exceeded my expectations with look and feel of the venue for both the ceremony and reception, and he truly is an artist. Stemline Creative is superb. Ryan did two bouquets for me for an event I was organizing. Both bouquets were long lasting, fresh and vibrant. He designed two unique arrangements in terms of colour as well as flowers used. Some of the flowers I never even knew existed! It was such a hit with all the guests. I had the pleasure of choosing Ryan and his Stemline Creative team to be my florists for our wedding (May 10, 2014). In a word, Ryan is amazing. Ryan was the only meeting I had that made me excited about florals for our wedding. He was able to take my "here's what I think I want, but have little-to-no knowledge about flowers and decor" and create a look and scheme that was absolutely PERFECT and what I'd wanted. He was quick to respond, extremely patient with visits and updated proposals, and honestly laid-back enough to not cause undue stress for a bride. He also is so dedicated, passionate, talented and easy to work with. He didn't nickle and dime, respected our budget, and make everything beautiful.
