They are clean and take very well of their horses! I also love walking the trails in the park behind it. They are flat so it's great for practice and training which is important for beginners and kids. It's also nice to just go and visit the horses just don't touch or feed them! They did respond to my friend via IG (I don't use IG to communicate with businesses) and thought they'd respond to me via their work email account then but still no response. The instructor arrived a few minutes late the first time I went there (understandable, the weather was really bad and I don't blame her at all for that and would rather people be safe) but she didn't introduce herself and even though I wasn't the only new person there (she asked if anyone was new), she didn't approach any of us mid or after working out just to check in and see how we felt or give tips. It was my first time working out since the pandemic started and I was clearly behind so I would've liked an encouraging word or two. I wasn't expecting one on one training but an instructor acknowledging the new people is pretty normal. Even though this place wasn't for me, I still think it's a nice gym and saw they have a lot of dedicated clients who really love it there. I'm back and forth from the city due to work so maybe I would've stuck with it for another round of classes if I was here full time.

Let me explain why In November 2017, I met with Dave Willis about a boat he had for sale in his yard. He greeted myself and my two year old daughter walking with us to show the boat, helping her climb the ladder. I explained I am a full time first responder and also United States Marine who was slated to deploy overseas the following year for approximately 15 months. Dave Willis and I had a 40 minute conversation in regards, coming to find out Dave is also a member of Halesite Fire Department. Outstanding! Long story short, Dave and his family at Willis Marine Center worked with me remotely (while deployed) and then in person again for another TWO YEARS to finalize this boat purchase. In July 2019, we finalized the sale and Dave went out of his way to prepare every document ahead of time. They lowered the boat into the water and observed it floating prior to my arrival, Dave noticing a leaking drain plug. They repaired it one day and the next morning me, my daughter and dog cruised out of Huntington Harbor for Oyster Bay. Not to be outdone, the boat (a 1969) has begun a complete restoration since that time, and just this week Dave, Todd and everyone at Willis Marine Center hauled the boat having arleady ordered, received, and got the components ready to begin the first major portion of this ambitious project, a 14ft x 30inch teak swim platform mounted to a freshly primed, painted and finish polished transom. Dwight and Rick do the installation in a matter of hours and knock this job out of the park! Transom stripped, primed, painted, polished and then Dwight and Rick install the platform from scratch - Guess how long this took? If you guessed 4 days in TOTAL then your right. See pictures on their FB page!! Did I mention my sister and brother-in-law bought a boat this year and first place she chose to moor, store, and service her boat is Willis Marine Center? Not a coincidence folks! Come down and meet the entire team at Willis Marine Center, you will not go anywhere else. Last but not least...I met a ton of great people hanging out down here. I have been training at AMP for a couple months now, twice a week with Heather (and one session…read morewith Mike when Heather was out sick). I love her, I love the place, and I love the rest of the crew. Let's start with the place - it's actually two storefronts, with a break in the wall between them. One side is filled with weight-lifting platforms and bar setups (I have yet to try the "barserker" bootcamp, but it seems like my childhood gymnastics skills might come in handy!). The other side is open with astroturf and all sorts of big movement equipment - a weight sled, gigantic long ropes, mini hurdles, etc. There's pretty much every kind of weighted item you could desire (dumbells, kettle bells, medicine balls, vibr bars), plus trickier stuff like resistance bands, TRX cables, and so on. Now let's talk about their philosophy. I specifically asked during my initial consultation whether they consider themselves to be like crossfit (I had a bad experience with crossfit...). They emphatically said no, that's not their style. AMP is focused on natural movement. It's not about bigger, faster, more more more. It's about doing it right, even if that only means you get 3 reps in. And trust me. Heather and I spent a good 15 minutes during a session trying to get just 3 good, real pushups out of me. BUT!!! The next session after that tedious session, I busted out more good pushups. Then this morning it was like I have done pushups all my life. Heather was thrilled, I couldn't believe it, the world is a new place. This is the whole point of AMP. Do it carefully, do it right, and you will see amazing progress at a reasonable pace. Finally, a quick note to those who are worried about current state of fitness, prior injuries, etc. From what I can tell, the clientele at AMP ranges from SUPER fit people to average Jills and Joes, to those who are working themselves back from injury. They are very careful to match you with a trainer who can fit your specific needs and they have a great stable of people to choose from who each have a slightly different background (straight-up trainer, physical therapist, champ weight-lifter, etc.) So don't worry about it - just go, get a consultation, ask questions, be honest in your needs, and you'll love it.
