I honestly felt like I got scammed. Brought a Groupon 3-session laser tattoo package. After the first 2 sessions did basically nothing, I was told that the lack of progress was because they were using the "Groupon laser" (this is actually what they called it), and if I wanted results, I needed to pay more to use the "real" laser. When deciding which place I would buy a package from, I made sure to set the bar very high. First thing is first, cleanliness. If I'm going to be taking my pants off and getting near naked, I need to be comfortable and in a clean environment. Once you walk into Step Up Skin Laser it's like you've been transported to an expensive Italian spa. It's stunning! Makes me feel like I'm rich getting the royal treatment or something haha. I love how EVERYTHING is white-- which means they can't hide if something is dirty! Second, everyone that works there is beautiful and sweet. After I purchased my 6-pack Brazilian laser hair removal, I was greeted with big smiles and welcomed to sit in the lobby with coffee, tea, and refreshments. So cute and sweet of them! Third, it must be something these women are trained in, but they chit chat with you while doing your laser so effortlessly! Thank god because I find myself distracted each time and then a few minutes later it's over! I've never had any redness or irritation although I'm sure if you have fair skin it could be possible. Fourth-- Step Up is so freaking affordable! I'm seriously not sure how they charge such a minimal price for such high end lasers (which I researched thoroughly prior). A year or so ago I went to Bared Monkey Laser Spa and had my underarms done with their lasers. I wasn't happy with my results after 6 sessions (gave it a fair chance) so I decided not to return. On the flip side, after only 5 sessions here I am soooo freaking surprised and happy that I CAN WEAR A BIKINI AND NOTHING SHOWS! It must be a more powerful or newer laser they use. But hell yeah. VISITING DURING COVID 19- I recently purchased a Groupon for a year of laser hair removal in a medium area. I have been doing laser for a few years now and have completed about 8 treatments on my armpits thus far. I called in to make my appointment and I was given the basic information - A mask needs to be warn at all times - They will take a temperature check - You will have to pay the Groupon taxes ($10 if I'm not mistaken) - Please shave the area 24hrs prior - No medications or tannings 2 weeks before The Visit- The location was easy to find which is a plus. The space is huge and decorated beautifully with pink couches ! The girls at the front desk were very great. I filled out all necessary paperwork on the iPad and waited to be called. Since I was just doing armpits my visit was fairly quick. My tech was literally amazing (I cant remember her name but I will update this) ! Technology- The laser machine that was used was new for me. I am used to the normal laser machine some of them blow out cold air some don't but its sort of like a prick sound (Horrible explanation) anyways this machine was different she used a gel and guided the machine in a circular motion against my armpit. This is my first experience with this machine (I will update this review with the name of the machines) while it didn't hurt it was definitely a bit weird. Overall I had an amazing experience I have been recommending laser to so many people lately especially those with darker skin as I myself was nervous to first try laser ! I was there 20 minutes early for my appointment and had to be inconvenienced at her convenience. Just like today. I arrived before the other lady and she actually added a service. which would require a creation of a new appointment. Would that not be considered a walk in appointment for the added service!? Okay! This place is clean! I've been coming here since Feb 2019. I bought a large and small section 1 year unlimited laser package from Groupon. The Groupon technically caps out at 9 session ranging from 5-6 weeks in between session. After my year was over, they offered me 6 more session for the same price as my Groupon! Facilities - The laser they use is definitely less painful! I have gotten my armpit done at another place and this laser was a piece of cake compared to that one. It's not the laser where they zap you. it reminds me of an ultrasound but with heat and pain, haha. When you are downstairs, you have to buzz 6 (for the 6th floor) and they will buzz you in. You have to wear your mask at all time. They provide hand sanitizer at the front desk. The couches are spaced apart for social distancing. Service - It is very easy to make an appointment. They are also flexible if you need to cancel and/or reschedule. All the technician I have met are nice. They would make sure the heat/laser level is tolerable for you and/or they will try to calm you down and make you feel at ease. If you don't know how much to tip, they have a list of suggested tips depending on the package you have. They take cash or venmo. Timeline - The amount of session depends on which part you are lasering. I used the Groupon for my Brazilian area. This area is usually more hormonal and takes a long time. After 15 sessions, my hair doesn't grow back as fast (maybe after 6 weeks). If it does grows back, it is thinner and lighter. I also bought a full leg package post-lockdown, and after 5 session, I barely see any hair. Maybe 2-4 strands. read more

Update #3: I had my final removal session and really happy with the results. The bottom photo is about 3 months after my final session. The technician thought I could go another three sessions to get it fully removed and tried to sell me a very expensive package. It is a $60 tattoo so it would be silly to spend $300+ to remove it. If I could get another Groupon deal on it I would consider it! Overall a really nice experience. BTW THEY CHARGE YOU FOR LATE CANCELLATIONS OF APPOINTMENTS, I HAD NO IDEA AND PAID $60 IN CANCEL FEES. **** Update #2: The first tattoo technician I had no longer works here, not sure what happened but I really liked her. I was a bit skeptical of going through Groupon for a removal over a dermatologist for a considerable amount more money, but went with it anyway and am really happy I did. I called to make an appt and let them know of the Groupon. My appointment was at 4 pm on a Sunday and I showed up around 3:45 to do any paperwork. I was out of there by 4:15pm including the consultation. The technician was professional, friendly, and very obviously knew what she was doing. The place was very clean and everyone else was friendly as well. She addressed any questions or concerns I had, and instructed me on proper after care and let me know everything that I should expect. The process was not nearly as painful as I was expecting and she can give any breaks if needed. I really felt like I was in good hands. Just after a few days, I've had minimal issues with after care - no blisters or bleeding. When you arrive you are greeted by the amazing Kelly who is warm and courteous. Kelly asked me many questions to grasp my issue. She is extremely knowledgeable and explained what needed to be done. After reading many reviews on laser spas in the area I decided on Step Up Skin Laser as majority of the reviews were positive. Making my first appointment here was very easy and not as painful as I've read on other laser spas - I simply made a phone call and a real person answered the phone. I've been coming here for almost a year, for my underarms, so I felt that it was a good time to finally review this place. The laser spa is very clean, spacious, and modern.The machines that they use here is called Soprano Ice. I've never been to other laser spas before, but have friends who have and when we compared experiences it would seem that the machines used at these spas made all the difference. Soprano Ice machines is similar to what doctors use when performing an ultrasound; the head of the machine has a ball that rolls around on the surface, essentially making the laser hair removal almost painless compared to the older machines/method of holding the laser head in place and zapping each individual section, on an area, piece by piece. I did not have a designated technician for each appointment, however everyone I've interacted with has been very professional, friendly, patient, and address any concerns I may have had. If you are doing the one year unlimited, there is a 6 week period of rest in between each session; so at the end of the period you will have gone through 9 sessions. You are able to schedule your following appointment right there on the spot, either before or after your session. What I like most about this laser spa is that they are very punctual when it comes to appointments and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes after my scheduled time. Because of this well organized system they have here, I am able to go during my lunch break and be in and out within 10 minutes - lasering the underarms only takes about 3 minutes tops for both underarms. Personally I really saw the hair growth difference after 3 to 4 sessions. During this time the technicians ask that you stay away from the sun for 3 weeks prior/after each session, as the lasered area is very sensitive to UV lights - so if you're trying to get ready for the summer months be sure to time your start date correctly. I would give this place a 4 star review but today really got to me. I was 5 minutes late to my laser appointment and I had to wait 30 minutes to been seen. They took someone else in before me who probably had an appointment scheduled after. I just don't understand if Im paying the company over $1,000 for treatments they can wait for me. Quick update on my experience with the Underarm/Brazilian Hair Removal Package: Pros: - Painless: Beats the heck out of waxing. - Hair is thinner and smoother. - Less and easier shaving. - Annual pass can be renewed for same price but limited to 6 sessions with no expiration date. - Front Desk team is friendly and accommodating. Cons: - Hair does not completely go away and highly possible you will need continual maintenance. They will tell you hormones and hair life cycles are a factor but I thought it would be substantially less on by my 8th session. - The Groupon is titled as unlimited but in current Fine Print you are limited to 9 sessions for the year. When I made the purchase early in the year, the Fine Print made no mention of limits (see attached pic). - Definitely not worth the original price they claim. Thanks to Step Up, I am yet another step closer to becoming a hairless cat. I purchased a Groupon a while back to laser my lower legs and my knees. I opted out of doing full leg because my thighs don't have much hair there anyway, so it's not like I'm walking around with half smooth/half Sasquatch legs. I started seeing REAL results after the third session - meaning, I didn't even really have to shave between the 6 week sessions. The hair on my legs were coarse and dark but when they do grow back now, it's really light. I also had a ton of in-grown hairs on my knees but now they're (almost) as smooth as a baby's butt. There are still a few stragglers there but maybe I just didn't exfoliate as much as I should have been exfoliating. I have been to MANY different places for laser because I have required touch ups or multiple sessions/"packages" for the same few areas, but moved back to NY from Boston so I've tried out a few different places both there and here, so I've been trying to find a salon I really like. I've also loved the results of laser treatments, so I've done multiple areas! I have and will continue to recommend to anyone who asks to go here for laser. ANYWAY, Step Up is BY FAR the BEST place out of the now 5 places I have been to for laser. Their machines are just as effective, but are SIGNIFICANTLY less painful than any of the other ones. I'm not sure what exactly the difference is technology wise, but instead of zapping you inch by inch, their machines go repeatedly over the area multiple times in shorter bursts and I guess that's what makes it less painful? Idk. Either way, it's just as effective and I've noticed great results and am obviously so pleased that it's not as painful! The staff is very friendly and relaxed. Most recently I had Vicki, who was extremely knowledgable but more importantly super nice! She was willing to answer any questions and made me very comfortable. I do wish they had somewhere to wash off the gel in the rooms other than just wiping it off with a paper towel. My only complaint! Their new space on 5th avenue is HUGE, clean and very pleasant. However, upon calling to make an appointment at the very end the receptionist advised that they charge a $10 cash "tax" on all Groupons that I would pay at my appointment. In this case I paid $74 so I would not be paying a $10 flat fee. I cancelled the Groupon as I don't support businesses that engage in shady business dealings. I am saddened to write this review. I've been a happy customer for 5+ years. Special shoutout to Kelly who no longer works here but always gave amazing customer service. Over Christmas week, I had the most shocking experience from a customer perspective side in my entire life. My day job is working with customers so I understand what it's like working with rude people. I would never treat someone even close to how I was treated. I attempted to reschedule an appointment for weeks through calls and emails and hadn't heard back. I finally got through to Lolita at the front desk. I wanted to ask why I haven't heard back. Lolita seemed busy at first, and asked to call me back two separate times. I waited by the phone for over 40 minutes. The conversation escalates to Lolita screeching at me how I am being condescending and if I have a specific problem with her then I should take it up with her because she has *other* more important customers to take care of. I was patient and understanding but firm in our interaction. We all have bad days but my questions were simple and valid. I wanted to express my displeasure in a reasonable professional manner. When Lolita became hysterical, I decided enough was enough. I will not be treated like this, especially as a loyal well-paying customer for 5 years. I connected with Amir, the owner. Thank you Amir for listening to me, expressing the same shock and letting me know that is not acceptable behavior. Amir said he would reprimand her and offered me a free session on them. I accepted at the time. I called a few days ago to reschedule due to schedule conflicts and Lolita picked up. I quickly rescheduled with her and hung up ASAP. While Amir's offer was generous and would be enough for others, I realized it wasn't enough for what I experienced. I don't want to feel abused everytime I call or bump into her at the company. I'm not requesting or insinuating she be fired. There's a pandemic and it's simply not the right thing to do to another human being. I have decided to never come back again. Everyone makes mistakes and that is part of life. But this mistake costed management thousands of dollars I would've continued spending. I hope she never belittles and degrades another person again and takes this as a teaching moment. Other than this traumatic experience, I would still recommend Step Up Skin. I found this place on Living Social $199 for 1 year treatment of a large area and I been coming since January, I been there already three times but waited to do my review. Let me start with its super easy to set up appointments and reschedule. The place its really pretty and most important clean. I really like the waiting area but I'm never there longer than 3 mins and I'm always called in. I got the Brazilian laser and I have to say I'm super happy with the results so far. My hair growth has decrease by about 50% and the hair that grows back its very thin. Every time I been here I had different technicians and all three have been pleasant enough but to be honest I don't remember their names. Apart from my amazing results I love the fact that it doesn't hurt too much I would say probably a 3-4 out of 10 and trust me I do not like pain. The whole procedure takes less than 10 minutes and that's counting undressing and putting your clothes back on. I was referred to by a friend for an awesome deal that Step Up Skin Laser was having so I decided to give it a try. I usually wax which is not only painful but expensive, so I've been looking to make the move to laser and now I had the chance! Initially walking into the salon I noticed place is very very clean. Being kinda weird about cleanliness I felt great knowing that. I filled out all the appropriate paperwork as a first time guest and began my session. The entire experience of laser was a very good one. The woman who did my laser was very informative and made me feel calm throughout the entire process. The actual laser feels warm and like small little pinches. There was no pain at all and in fact the entire first session lasted about 15-20 minutes tops. Super clean, super posh decor, every technician I've met with so far is super friendly, personable and really takes their time to hit whatever areas you've requested. I bought a years worth from groupon for a small and large area along with upper legs separately. They ONLY issue I would have here is the difficulty in scheduling or changing a schedule, which involves several calls, some of which no one answers or returns a call if a voicemail is left. The first month it stayed clear but now it's back as if I never had any treatments. And this is after a year of sessions. Plus the hair quality has completely changed. It's no longer the thin soft sparse hair I had that came after 4 years of no hair. Now it comes out in clumps and is thick and coarse like beard stubble! I'm horrified! The entire staff is really sweet and the technicians always ask about the progress of my hair growth. However, I do think Step Up engages in shady practice. After about 4 or so sessions, I felt like I was starting to see real results. After that though, I noticed that the technicians started lowering the strength of the laser because I stopped feeling any pain or stinging at all. Prior to that, I would feel a "snapping" on my skin that was mildly painful. It's been a little over a year since my "unlimited" laser package on Groupon and I still have the same amount of hair that I started with. Loved this spa from the moment i walked in. Clean and beautiful facility. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I got the 50 minute step up classic facial treatment, which was recommended to me by one of the technicians there. The technician did an amazing job. She was very professional throughout the treatment and made me feel very relaxed.The products she used on my face worked great, leaving my skin feeling smooth , hydrated and refreshed. This facial definitely improved my skin texture. After such a pleasant experience, I will be booking more cleansing facial sessions at this spa to maintain my skin routine. I bought a Groupon to Step Up Skin Laser to do laser on my lower legs and armpits. I really like how professional the girls are. The receptionists are really nice. The atmosphere of the waiting area is also very nice. There is a lot of space so if anyone is Covid scared then this is a great place to go to. Very clean, masks are worn by staff at all times. As for the service, my favorite and only girl I go to is Leen. If you go to step up skin laser then request her! She is a pleasure and makes sure that you are really taken care of. The treatments were showing amazing results that I decided to do other parts of my body such as my upper legs and Brazilian as well. I did a silly thing and shaved right before my appointment not knowing that my skin could be super sensitive. I could tell that Leen was really trying to help distract me with her pleasant conversations and it totally worked because within a matter of minutes she finished! Now I practically don't have to shave anymore. I have had only two other girls work on me because she wasn't in on those days and I told myself never again. One girl did my lower legs, it was so painful that I almost told her to stop halfway. Another girl did my facial, but during my next facial with Leen I was able to see the difference in how they pay attention to detail. I was so relaxed! She helped me reach a level of comfort that that I definitely woke myself up with a snore. Not only is her service amazing but she is very knowledgeable in what she does. I actually started getting facials because I would complain about my scars! Being as knowledgeable as she is she told me to try it out so I did! I have no regrets! After the facials she would show me what she extracted from my face, I'm glad to get rid of that "gunk." I'm very happy with what I paid for at Step Up skin laser. My skin has never looked this good!!!! I'm sure the other girls are just as great and knowledgeable but, personally, when I find a good lady, I'm loyal! The facilities were very clean, the technician was very knowledgeable about the process and care of the treatments and the machines they use are better than the ones I used 10 years ago! They do try to upsell, but not in a pushy way. Excited to see how the results are overall. read more

I'm a huge fan of this laser spa! I've had the best results ever since I started going here. The machines that they use are painless and each time I've been there for laser hair removal appointments the technicians make me feel like it's my first visit and they always take their time on me. I'm even thinking about getting a Hydra-facial there since I have a friend that received one from them and her skin looks flawless and glows now! I also like the vibes there as well. I waited for all my 9 sessions to be done in order to give them a fair review. I saw all the mixed reviews, I didn't wanted to be influence by any, and have the experience myself. All the people making 5 start comments on first sessions only, should consider. Staff is Amazing, super helpful and friendly. The facility and rooms are always super clean and it's actually a calm and relaxing environment. My sessions were at first 6 weeks apart, then 5, and finally 4. The only time I had a problem with schedule was when they scheduled me for Dec 24th, they were close so moved me to Dec 30th (I couldn't make it) and from there until Jan 28th. I had to way 9 weeks that time. How were they, and I think this might be their problem: First was great, she didn't rush it and answer all questions. It was in my neck, she explained everything to me, probably took 5 minutes in it. in between sessions I had Andrea 2 times, she is amazing, she also didn't rush it, take the same amount of time, maybe more. They both cover the whole area of the neck. All the others, the inconsistency is huge, some will do ok, some won't cover the whole neck, others will just do on top part, what they had in common, it was all done in less than 2 minutes. The only times I saw a bit of improvement was when Andrea did it. (Fine hair not growing, thick hair falling) if it wasn't her, back to square one with my hair. I have a male friend that by session 6 he had no hair whatsoever (not treated here of course) I have probably 23 thick hairs in my neck (yes you could count them) and everything else was super fine ones) You are going to tell me that not even in the fine ones it will work?! Right? I understand that with 9 sessions not all hair will be gone, and that I will need some more, but I still have ALL of my hair (I took pictures before every session before shaving) So, no, I wouldn't recommend this place. For a little over a year I have been going to Step Up Skin Laser for all my hair removal sessions, which have been various. I originally went at the recommendation of a friend and even found a Groupon deal at the time for $99, which included a small and medium session. The laser technology is vastly different than the majority of hair removal places that have the zap zap & let's hopefully not burn you technology. Step Up Skin Laser's laser (say that 5 times fast!) is like a metal rollerball which they pass over the indicated area with a special gel. You can definitely feel it tingle as it passes through the area and removes the hair. The staff at this location is extremely friendly and always willing to work with you. They'll be very honest and recommend packages during certain times so you can get the most out of your money without going broke! What about the technicians? I have yet to meet someone who was not friendly and very well informed on what they were doing. My only complaint about this place would have to be that they can tend to overbook themselves and it can get a little crazy in terms of wait time during the lunch hour rush. Overall, I love Step Up Skin Laser and will continue to go until everything is gone! read more
