I would not recommend Stephen R Henry DDS place at all! This is a really great place to develop abscess and receive bills for procedures that were not performed. Dr. Stephen R. Henry's poorly executed root canal gave me an abscess. Furthermore, his self-righteous arrogance is annoying, to say the least, and can be dangerous if you have a serious problem. His complacency was so bad that he dropped my crown on the floor, picked it up and without disinfection worked it in my mouth. What blatant negligence! read more

Stephen got me in ASAP, did all of the necessary work, not a bunch of stuff I really didn't need like orthodontics which my last dentist recommended. This review is based on the past year including several visits: 3 Routine Cleans 2 Deep Cleans 1 Root Canal As if the case with most people, I'm always leery about trying new healthcare providers when I move and last year, after reading every dentist's Yelp reviews within 10 miles of Foster City, this is where I settled. I usually check for new providers competency, professionalism, courteousness, compassion, and expertise--and Dr. Henry and his amazing staff exceed my expectations in all of those categories! Everyone on his staff is empathetic, has a great attention to detail, and professional. They explain in thorough detail (Dr. Henry definitely takes the cake for this one) every procedure not just what they suggest, but why, how, and oftentimes the history of how it evolved! That's truly incredible... I've simply never known any dentist to thoroughly explain things in a way that makes me feel extremely comfortable even in the most challenging of proposed procedures, such as yesterday's root canal. Not only did I feel absolutely nothing the entire time, but despite having various 22mm drill bits and syringes inserted into my face, I was surprisingly calm because of Dr. Henry's methodical approach and attention to detail. The icing on the cake is that the practice's music selection is one of the best with some of the best classic rock out there. As a musician and composer--this is the deal maker by itself. During 2015 I was advised by Dr Henry to have 7 crowns!! Well, it was obvious that Dr Henry was over diagnosing my case. I agreed to have 4 crowns done. This cost me over $5000. I had insurance, but I was charged the office's retail price!!! I was ripped off. I discovered this after a few months during 2015 and I was reimbursed approximately $1000. The office or Dr Henry himself conveyed no apologies at all. During 2020 I was advised that all the crowns that I had done, needed (4) Root Canals!!!! What?? So during 3/2020 I had (1) Root Canal done, since this is all I could afford. I communicated this to Dr Henry's office. I received no response and no refunds at all. This is the worse Dentist that I have been to. NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

I woke up on a Wednesday with a toothache, it was mildly painful when I bit down on it, but went on with my day. By early afternoon the aching non-stop and my cheek was a little puffy. I panicked because I hadn't found a new dentist after moving to the Foster City area. I found Dr. Henry on yelp and walked into his office just before they closed hoping to just schedule an appointment for the next day. The receptionists saw that I was in pain and swollen and were so great. They took all my information and Dr. Henry saw me even though they should have closed for the day. It turned out that an old root canal had to be retreated which required a referral to an oral surgeon. They called the oral surgeon for me first thing the next day, and then called me later in the day just to check how I was doing knowing that I was in bad shape the day before! After getting the root canal taken care of I went back to Dr. Henry to get the crown evaluated and even though it had been weeks, everyone remembered me at the office. Dr. Henry and his staff are so friendly and personable, and probably my favorite thing is that no one tries to make you feel bad or guilty about your choices and they are really honest about what needs to be done right away versus what can be taken care of later. My husband was so impressed with how they handled my situation that he is going to switch to Dr. Henry! read more

As soon as I even think about going to the dentist I get the nervous anxiety sweats... yet I hate bad teeth and demand that my teeth look fantastic. As you can imagine this makes me very, very picky about dentists. I can't say enough great things about this office! The people you see the most are the hygienists and they are fantastic. Very professional, very gentle, and have very advanced care options. The laser cleaning is probably the single best thing I've done for my gum health in my life. I even did this cool saliva testing thing - I love cutting edge technology like that! Most importantly my experience has been painless every time. Dr. Henry is very professional, very thorough, and very gentle as well. There are a few areas we are watching and he checks them every time I come in and we discuss how each area is doing. He gives a prioritized treatment plan and works with you on addressing each item. I feel very well taken care of under his care. *BEWARE*: On my second appointment with Dr. Henry I ended up at Urgent Care. I finally have time to write about my experience with Dr. Henry. My first appointment was a cleaning, which more or less went fine except I was rather disturbed when the hygienist touched my septum ring.....twice. She was curious what it was and poked at it with her finger asking "what is this?". It caught me so off guard that my knee-jerk response was "what?" then she poked it again asking "is this a piercing?" much to my horror. You cannot touch, poke or grab facial piercings without at least asking permission first, and even if she did it would be unprofessional for a hygienist to do so. On two lesser notes, I found it odd that I had to take my x-rays in one chair, then inconveniently grab all of my belongings and walk down the hall to sit in another chair to have the cleaning done; this was the first dentist who ever made me move from chair to chair. The second note is it was obviously a lunch appointment (noontime on a weekday) and once I was seated for the cleaning the hygienist chatted with me for at least 10 if not 15 minutes. I thought we were waiting for something in order to begin the cleaning. Nope...she just wanted to chat. I am 100% for small talk and building rapport, however, either be mindful of my appointment time and keep it short or ask simple questions during the cleaning. The ladies at the front desk and the other hygienist (?) who took my x-rays and impressions for a nightguard are the ones who saved this from being a single star. My second appointment was only 6 days after to both do a filling and take impressions for a nightguard. I called that morning to see if they were able to move my appointment to an earlier time since there was a very important director meeting at work that got bumped to that day. Much to my delight, they said to come in earlier and it should be fine. As my filling was going to be shallow Dr.Henry said he usually does not give anesthesia for the filling unless I really wanted to. Since I had a presentation for the important director meeting at work I tentatively agreed to skip the anesthesia to save my mouth from drooping and drooling. AND THUS it finally begins. Before filling in the cavity there is a "primer" that is in a syringe and goes onto the tooth before the actual filling itself. In his absolute negligence, some of the primer somehow dropped from the syringe and got INTO MY EYE. I *immediately* sprung up from my laying position in cries of pain, it felt like a drop of lava was melting my cornea and I couldn't stop it. In between a slew of profanities, I asked "WHAT WAS THAT?!".....no one answered me. Tears are gushing and my hands tightly cover my eyes as to somehow save them from falling out. I ask again...."WHAT WAS THAT!??" and again I was answered with silence. It must have been 20-30 seconds before someone finally told me what it was and handed me a mirror. My left eye was a deep beet red like I had never seen before. I was so terrified that this chemical was going to make me blind had it sat in there for too long. They hand me Visine. I go to town trying to flush out what I could as they hand me tissue after tissue. Some time passes and the hot burn eventually fades into a throbbing ache. We were already halfway through the procedure so I told them to just finish it since I don't want an exposed cavity. The tears never ceased to stream down my cheeks as he finished the filling. Had one of them taken 2 seconds to put the goggles on me (that were right behind the chair mind you) I wouldn't have been in anguish. There was some blame shifting, at first Dr.Henry half-ass took the fall saying that he knew I had an important meeting at work so was trying to do the right thing and rush the procedure so I can return in time. I 100% missed the meeting but in return got a lot of questions about my red eye at work. I cannot wrap my mind around how saving 2 seconds was worth risking chemicals in my eyes. Later he changed it to "I don't know why none of the staff didn't put the goggles on you". Still in tears, I paid the front desk hundreds of dollars for the procedure so I can just get out of there ASAP to tend to my eye. Thankfully the urgent care clinic next door took me in immediately. The dye test also burned and showed superficial damage. More burning drops were prescribed to help the healing. When I professionally asked for a refund of the appointment, he opened with "regarding your demands..." and said how some of his friends and lawyer suggested that he ought to REFUSE his services to me. How odd that I am in the wrong? He agreed to pay for part of the appointment, even though it was only $80 more to cover the appointment in full and pleaded that his overhead costs won't allow it. I am concerned about how they're managing their books if $80 for my appointment from hell will break their business. No need to refuse your services to me, as I will NOT be returning. read more

I feel very comfortable and great during my dental cleaning, im not easy patient to take an X-Ray, but hygienist was very good and gentle. So, there I was enjoying a wonderful Plumb my wife brought home from Trader Joes, and thinking of the wonderful experience provided by Dr Henry's Office on the treatment that Donna gave me using some advanced Laser on my lower teeth which had been noticing were not as bright and white due to my Age and in spite of my Brushing with my Oral B Tooth Brush. I had begun experiencing a Loose Tooth ... as you face the mirror it is two teeth in from the front two on the left side. Well, OUT it came after the first Bite of that wonderful Plumb. Great... another opportunity to visit Dr Henry and all the Beauties at his Office in Foster City. I called for an Appointment and contacted Bise, his wonderful pleasant assistant, who handles any Insurance Issues without a hitch. She made an appointment to correct the problem in early November as I Ok'd it as I was not experiencing any Discomfort. I told Bise that I would have to Deal with my Wife teasing me about the GAP caused by my missing eye tooth. Bise then suggested that the Timing of the Tempestuous Tooth Failure would be something I could turn into a POSITIVE Experience by being dressed as Trailer Trash or Meth Head for Halloween. Anyway, I have Yelped Dr Henry as recently as 2012, and I am Confident that Dr. Henry can Turn me from a Halloween Character to the Greg Gorgeous I am. I am looking forward to my visit as Dr. Henry makes a visit to the Dentist so Pleasant. I also get a chance to talk to him about the latest in Electronics and Metal Detection Equipment, as years ago, I located his Lost Gold Wedding Band using a White's Metal Detector, I purchased through Golden State Metal Detectors in Foster City. In the mean time, when I Floss the Area, I'll have to use something the size of a Cowboy's Rope. Must Keep Up the Flossing, no excuse, to keep Donna and Susie Happy as well as a Healthy Smile and Gums that my Wife can't criticize or make fun of. read more

My hygienist is Donna at this office, and she is so very gentle and kind. She uses cutting edge technology to detect and treat periodontal disease. She will explain in layman's terms each procedure and includes the client in any decision in regards to oral health. I would follow Donna anywhere becuase her care is top notch. My son (then about 12) fell off his skateboard and knocked out his front tooth. He was in a panic, and I tried my best not to be. My 8 year old daughter fell off her bike and chipped both of her adult front teeth. I was very worried and my daughter was just about to start school again. We saw 2 other dentist and talked with 3 other cosmetic dentist over the next month but decided on seeing Dr. Henry because he was so detailed in his answers, very experienced, and professional. Like many people, I am pretty scared of the dentist chair and make a big deal out of a minor operation about my teeth. So when my previous dentist told me I will need a filling or maybe a crown and it might not be a very easy to fix my tooth, I went ahead and searched for a 5 star dentist around. I am so glad I found Dr Henry. He was extremely patient about answering my endless questions and telling me about my choices. And no need to mention, he did an excellent filling job on my tooth. He definitely looks like a professional who knows what he is doing and I absolutely felt like I am in good hands while I was opening my mouth wide. Besides, although I told him my previous dentistry group which he was familiar with, he did not put in a bad word for them which tells me a lot a dentist's personality. I have seen some dentists around the bay area who are really interested in their financial gains but not that interested in what works best for you. I had just had some dental work done by a Dentist and my crowns were popping off and I was quite upset. I asked my sister whom she used for her dentist and she referred me to Dr. Stephen Henry. She stated that I would like Dr. Henry because he and his staff are really good people, very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Henry sat down with me and explained why the crowns were coming off. Worked with me with a treatment plan and we got the work done in a very timely fashion. After seeing the excellent reviews, I did book an appointment here though it seems like a professional setup just wanted to point out to my fellow yelper's they are exorbitantly expensive. I have comprehensive dental insurance from my company and they mentioned initially that the initial cleaning would be free which is the case everywhere. I had only one cleaning session and i was charged some $200+ extra out of pocket. When I called about to ask about the same, They mentioned it is laser cleaning and costs more. After the clean up I was also given a figure of 10K out of pocket to fix other issues in my teeth which did not need any root canals (They told me not to worry about the amount and to sign up for some fancy loan program). Of course hearing the amount knowing that I had insurance i got a mild heart attack, If i did not have insurance I guess i wouldn't be writing this today :), Of course i told them I am not interested. What really annoyed me is they even made me pay out of pocket for the cleaning after telling me its free. I am sure Dr Henry is highly qualified and never got to get any dental work done with him , So my post here is just to let folks know that this will cost you.. I mean a lot. After this experience i saw Dr Maria Chu at Metro dental and she did not charge anything so i saved 10K by switching my dentist. read more
