Stereoscope is a coffee nerd's dream. They have an array of high grade coffee from around the world prepared in a variety of processes. I recently had a pour over of a coffee from a region in Mexico that isn't usually associated with coffee processed anaerobically. It was very delicious and pretty far out. Really great coffee shop in Belmont Shore! I'm always in the lookout for new coffee places and I was elated when this place opened up so close to my apartment earlier this year! They took over the previously vacant spot on 2nd street where the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf used to be, directly next to Sweet Jills. So clearly a great location and perfect for a trendy business like this. The inside of the shop is very pretty and bright; there's some bar seating along the windows/walls that people mostly use to wait for their drinks to be finished. I haven't seen too many people working/studying here and I don't think the space is set up to encourage that kind of vibe but it is clean and still nice to sit for a bit and enjoy your coffee! Living so close, I've been more than a few times and tried all of their signature drinks/lattes, most of them iced since it's been hot as heck around here recently. It's always a treat to get one of their coffees since they're all so good! Their pastries are delicious as well; my fave so far was the everything croissant, covered in everything bagel seasoning and filled with cream cheese. The service is also great! The baristas and cashiers are always so friendly and they actually bring your order/drink out to you when it's ready rather than calling out a name or number. In short, I love this place! Matcha is like a litmus test for new coffee shops. The impressive list of ceremonial grade matcha and teas they have here are a stunning example of that. I appreciated the free drinks but as I said in my previous review - it wasn't so much about the tea - it's about the manager's over-explanations & rampant excuses when replying to peoples' reviews that aren't all praise. Even when I was explaining that to this person over Yelp & in the private messages on Instagram I still, yet again, get a slew of over explaining on how much of an expert he is & dismisses my take by throwing around his "expertise". You have proven my exact point. Your coffee is great. Your staff is great. Tea wasn't my jam & that's okay. But you can't keep explaining away stuff with excuses though. If you gotta tell people that you're an expert when they're complaining - then maybe you gotta take a step down a bit from your high horse. Telling people you refuse to apologize for being conceited is kinda bad. Your coffee may be good but your attitude makes it taste sour. read more

Fantastic addition to second street. Great team working here; I spilled my first cappuccino all over the sidewalk bench area, and they were so quick to clean up my mess. Fail on my part. But that first and only sip was delicious! Came back the next day to apologize for the mess and express gratitude for their understanding! Didn't spill my second cappuccino. Also delicious. Whenever I check out a new coffee spot, I can almost tell if the cappuccino will be legitimate based on the to-go cup size. They provide a proper cup size! And taste was on point! read more

Off 2nd street and Argonne in the busy area of Belmont Shores is this new coffee shop. Not the eccentric type of coffee shop with local art all over the walls, mismatched second hand furniture, and old books on the shelves. This is a much more modern approach as for as aesthetics. Upon entering, I quickly notice how bright and airy it is with clear glass lighting and long marbelized style counter and white tiling. this style and theme they choose really sets them apart. Luckily, when I ordered coffee they line wasnt too long, but shortly after, the line went out the door. At the counter next to the cash register are a couple menus held down by two ceramic cups. The is a good selection of coffees on the menu to satisfy most people. I would like to try out their speciality seasonal coffees from around world. On the side of the register is a small glass case showing some of the baked goods. it seems like a bad location, because I didnt know it was even there. they might be better served to rethink that glass case. also, the offerings looked good and my almond croissant was delicious, the offerings seem a little too much on the typical french that so many other coffee shops offer, when there are so many diverse cultures to grab baked goods from. After making the drinks, the brought them out to us and the almond croissant in a paper bag. The coffee drinks are made in a way you can see the entire process until your drink is ready. the Spanish latte which was very flavorful and delicious. I also ordered a Madagasar vanilla latte which seemed to lack a little flavor and tasted like i was just drinking hot milk. there is some seating inside along a very narrow rustic wooden table with wooden stools. and they are a few seats outside as well. If you like trying out new coffee shops, this is worth trying out. read more

Stereoscope got me into coffee. I've tried their $56 rare Yemen, their el Paraiso rose, red plum, lemon lime and all the way back to koke. They are legit when it comes to their coffee, teas, even royal milk teas and soft serve. Happy to come out and support their newest location. One thing about stereoscope is that their cs is exceptional. Both in store, online and Yelp. I have been messaged by them inquiring how my drink was or bag of coffee and they have always told me I can exchange it if needed. The baristas always ask me how my drink is and told me they can remake it too. Even their social media reached out to me to thank me for following them years ago and is the only coffee shop I talk to. It's unfortunate this person gave them a 2 star for explaining how their teas are made. But there are over thousands of people who can vouch this company is the best in both customer service online and in social media. Hope we can celebrate stereoscope opening and maintaining the level of high coffee since 2015. Especially the quality and consistency at all locations. Expanding doesn't mean it's going to be good but they have been able to maintain that level at all four shops. read more

Came here about an hour before closing, and the girls were so sweet. They explained the different grades of matcha and popular coffees, and recommended I come back another time to try their soft serve! I got a small Nakama ceremonial matcha milk, they allow you to adjust sweetness, and I enjoyed it. I'm a huge matcha fan and typically don't get it in cafes because most don't carry ceremonial (or even know the difference) or it's a premix overloaded with sugar. The matcha strength and milk ratio was perfect. I got to see them prepare it the proper way with the bamboo whisk and bowl. So happy there's a cafe in town that serves ceremonial matcha, and different grades of it too! Def be coming back for my matcha fix, maybe splurge on the Uji matcha next time. read more

I live in Downtown Long Beach and my favorite local coffee shop is up in North LB, so it's nice to have another incredible coffee shop closer to the beach. Don't get me wrong, there are other good coffee shops in Long Beach, but there are levels to this! Stereoscope is S-tier stuff, cream of the crop, creme de la creme. I ride my bike to get coffee, and have ridden many times from Long Beach to Stereoscope Buena Park just so I can have this coffee. I am so thankful that we have a local Stereoscope now. Madagascar vanilla latte, iced, with oat milk is the move. Espresso soft serve on the weekends is a necessity. Mix the two, welcome to heaven. read more

It's my go to for the last 5 years and I've been getting it everyday practically kept me going while I was in grad school. Recently ,I've been drinking their pourovers more and love that they can do it hot or iced. They roast their own beans so the origins are always rotating This coffee joint isn't afraid to experiment and try different light roast beans. Heck, love their beans so much... I was excited when I even won a few bags from their Instagram giveaways. They host it once a week for all their new beans. They even give me pointers and ask how my pourovers have been going! They're very good at following up with their followers to see where our coffee journey is going. The baristas are so nice and really great at answering my novice coffee questions. The quality of espresso has always been on point every visit so far. And the baristas make you feel very welcomed, theyre so kind! First time here but definitely coming back! Very cute cafe and extremely friendly staff. They helped me pick my order since I was indecisive and it did not disappoint. I got a Ganache Mocha Latte with miracle milk. They make their own dark chocolate Ganache which was so good. Then we also got a Guava Cheese croissant that was perfect. Don't be intimidated by the minimalistic decor of this coffee shop. The cashier was very friendly as he took our order this morning. I ordered a cappuccino with regular milk--if you're an oat milk person, I didn't see oatly being used but the competitors brand. Anyways my cappuccino was delicious--could taste the coffee well. My husband ordered a Spanish latte--something I noticed they have in SoCal and have not encountered this in the Bay Area. If you're a fan of sweetness--you'd like it. I sampled it and it was good. Finally, I sampled his cortado-strong and he totally approved of it. None of the coffee tasted burned but tasted smooth. I saw they had so many other cool and unique drinks which included teas and would absolutely love to have been able to try them all if I could. I've been going to their Fullerton/OC location for years whenever I happen to be in that area. They truly do not disappoint. I am just very glad they are finally down here in the Southbay, where I can have quality coffee and tea in my neighborhood. This new location's interior design is immaculate in their choice of marble counters! I'm digging the earthy taupe colors with the white. Although this location is smaller and do not offer as much seating for studying/conversing as their OC location does. I typically get their Almond or Oat milk Lattes. Hot or cold, it is delicious and rich either way. I add vanilla syrup to it to sweeten and I have the perfect cup of coffee in hand. Also I look forward to their seasonal drinks. They have a wide array of tea selection, their matcha tea being my go-to. I have not tried their tonic versions but will do on my next visit. I don't want to be that person who gate keeps establishments and wanting them to stay low key (for myself), but the fact they are located on a really busy street with high traffic, I think it is inevitable they will be found out, and sought out more and more. the very first time i went here over a year ago the barista on register was so kind, she made my first experience amazing and this place became my go-to cafe! i'm someone who personally isn't too fond of coffee and is OBSESSED with a good matcha. i've been drinking matcha religiously for about 4 years now so i've developed a palate for it and am incredibly picky with the quality of matchas. i had just moved to long beach and discovered the matchas here, they have 3 different levels of quality all with different price points. on my first visit, i asked the cashier to explain the different matchas and she happily did so and was super kind about it! she even gave me some recommendations (like to sweeten with vanilla instead of regular house syrup) and told me that if i wanted my drink sweeter i could bring it back to her and she'd add more. my personal favorite is their cheapest, the nakama matcha. it's the perfect earthiness without being too bitter for me. you're free to ask for extra house simple syrup for no cost if you prefer a sweeter matcha like i do. the vanilla does cost extra. whenever i come in, the baristas are always sweet, there's good music playing, and i love the calm vibe of the cafe. the baristas always personally walk over and hand you the drinks afterwards which is super cute to me for some reason. i love this cafe. It's a red flag when you go to a coffee shop that charges $6+ for a coffee, but they don't even use Straus Milk. I asked what they used, they buy whatever is cheap at the grocery store. A coffee shop that doesn't prioritize ingredient quality has no room on my coffee crave list when the competition is so large here in Southern California. Pros: -Friendly and helpful staff -Place has a nice atmosphere -Spanish latte was recommended by staff and it was good! -WiFi available Cons: -Not an ideal study place. No outlets for charging, less than 1ft table top to place a laptop on, and WiFi can be spotty (maybe it depends on number of people of network, not sure) -Place is small so if there are more than 5 customers standing it can feel crowded. -Unfortunately my experience has been fighting two flys for the past hour on a limited table so personally not a come back and stay for long environment for me.
