Finally got a proper cup of coffee after driving from the San Gabriel Valley to Long Beach--because let's be honest, Long Beach just has more of a coffee culture. Back home it's mostly Vietnamese coffee, which I love... but one of those almost sent me into an anxiety spiral with the caffeine, so I needed something more civilized this morning. This spot hit the mark. Low-key location, easy in and out, no crowds--just coffee. The people were friendly and clearly knew what they were doing. While I was sitting there browsing and trying to smell the coffee through the little vent like a weirdo, they casually mentioned the beans had been roasted yesterday. That told me everything I needed to know. Started with a drip--simple, solid, priced right. Then I rolled the dice on a peanut butter latte, which most places completely mess up. This one didn't. Still tasted like coffee, not a melted candy bar. I also grabbed some ceremonial matcha green tea powder to go, which was legit and not an afterthought. Behind the shop there are some race cars or high-end sports cars tucked into a garage space, which was kind of perfect. This is the third coffee shop I've seen operating out of a garage setup, and honestly, if that's how you keep rent down and spend the money on good beans (or fast cars), I respect it. You can also see the roasting machine while you wait, which is always cool. They've got a couple of benches outside if you want to sit and actually enjoy your coffee instead of chugging it in traffic. Bottom line: good coffee, good people, no ego. My favorite place for a great cup of coffee in Long Beach. Down to earth staff, friendly and fast. It seems like even the customers are on the same vibe. Welcoming, relaxed and friendly. They used to sell their coffee out of an industrial warehouse across the street where they roasted as well. Then they had the cart out in front of this location, then they finally moved inside and have a proper indoor coffee bar. It is fancy inside with a clean, crisp design. Very intentional. They still roast their coffee here at this location as well. The quality, taste and prices of the coffee have never changed. No upcharges for alternative milk or no upcharges for additional syrups. Everything is very reasonably priced and just feels fair. We can't say enough about them. For parking, there is a small parking lot out front which can fit around 4-6 cars and then there is parking on the street. It might be hard to find if it's your first time here. Just look for the green wall and the small coffee sign. I kind of like the hidden gem vibe though. Still feels very Long Beach. It doesn't feel overrun by tourists or overcrowded...yet. read more

I've been several times now, tried the chai tea, green tea, espresso, cappuccino and a regular coffee. All of them were great, add in service with a smile and some real character to the location and cart what more can you ask for from your morning Joe. My only down side would be they close in the afternoon and sometimes I miss out on an afternoon pick me up, but then I sleep better anyway so win win. read more

Such a cool coffee spot located in a parking lot located in the industrial area of Bixby Knolls. Apparently, they have another location but we were in the area of this one so decided to stop. The girl working on Saturday morning was great and super friendly. Made the experience that much better. She let us know of the community favorites and her recommendations. I ended up taking her advice and ended up ordering the 007. It was a shaken espresso with agave and oat milk. I was kinda hesitant because I thought it would be strong but I was fooled. It was amazing! Not too strong and not too sweet. Apparently, the peanut butter latte that my family ordered was delicious and we have talked about going back. So if you are in the area and need a quick cup of Joe, I highly recommend to make the stop. Today was our first time visiting, we came from Vegas to come visit this place and it was beautiful. If you like cars and coffee come here it's a simple modern aesthetic, the coffee was really good the matcha was good will definitely ask for it sweeter if you're a sweet tooth person. The outside cart is super adorable and my barista was extremely nice and welcoming. I got the iced 007 and it was just OK. I asked for less sweet but even the little agave he added was too much. I've been here many times now, and each time I'm in awe with the quality of their drinks, the overall positive and welcome vibe of the place, and the fantastic service. They hook you up with any alternative milks for no charge! And my favorite deal is getting a free matcha when I buy a matcha tin. Love, love, love! I've also been here during a book swap event back in June and loved how they coordinated with them to curate a special drink for the event. Both Black Dog and Book Nook of Long Beach worked together seamlessly, creating a fun and wholesome event to talk and trade used books while enjoying a nice drink. I came here for one reason... matcha. I needed a pick me up during worth so I made the drive to check this spot out. I saw they had a rose matcha and went on my mission. When I arrived I was greeted by a very nice girl who was knowledgable. I got their iced matcha with the rose syrup. I was pleasantly surprised that Black Dog doesn't charge extra for milk alternatives. They also don't charge extra for any of their syrup options as well. My matcha ended up being really pleasant. It wasn't too sweet which I liked. Black Dog is a cute stand. They have a small outdoor seating area in front but it's more of a grab and go type of spot. I almost passed right by it because I didn't realize that it is a small coffee cart, not a brick and mortar. First of all, the biggest selling point of this place for me is that they don't up-charge for nondairy milks. This makes such a huge difference in even being able to afford getting coffee more often! They also offer oat, almond, and soy milk, and have agave as an option instead of honey, making this place super vegan friendly! I got an iced almond milk latte with less milk. It was very tasty! I only say that because I really wanted a Strawberry Matcha but the closest thing they had was "Sweet Little Hulk." How cute is that name by the way???
