I told them I wanted something sweet, and they gave great recommendations and let me know the one I chose was really good quality. When I got it, it was a little strong for me, so we added more oat milk and a splash of vanilla, and that made it perfect. The aesthetic of the café was beautiful; minimalist, bougie, and it literally felt like a high end neighborhood café. The menu was teeny tiny, so it took us a minute to decide. My friend got an iced Spanish latte, and she said it was probably the best one she's ever had, this was also recommended by the cashier. Today I visited Stereoscope, and it was one of the most uncomfortable coffee shop experiences I've had. When I walked in, there was a long line, so my friends and I naturally moved toward the back to wait. For some reason, the staff decided to make us the star of the show. Even after we clearly answered that we were not in line, multiple employees kept stopping service to ask my friends the exact same question over and over. It felt like I was being singled out for no reason, and the repeated attention was embarrassing and unnecessary. This is a coffee shop. We're not trying to budge the line just because we're brown people. I've never been to a coffee shop where employees were so focused on making a customer feel uncomfortable instead of simply serving people. It completely devastated my peace and made what should have been a quick coffee stop feel awkward and hostile. Customer service isn't just about making drinks--it's about making people feel welcome. Such great coffees and matches! I have been buying their beans for few times now and I would make time to stop by to grab their beans when I'm out and they are happen to be on my way home. Since I work in DTLB, some mornings I would purposely take a different route so I would past by Stereoscope to get either their coffee or matcha. They have really high quality matcha and legit serve with either milk or tonic. You can also pick from I believe 4 kinds of ceremonial matchas that they offer. If you're sensitive to caffeine, I highly recommend good quality ceremonial matcha because you will not get the by-product affect unless from a concentrated powder or low quality (fake) matcha. I'm a matcha snob and also have sensitive stomach issue so I realize I can only do high grade matcha now so my options for good matchas are very limited and I'm so glad Stereoscope is one of them! read more

The barista was so friendly as I took a minute to think over the different ceremonial grade matcha options they offered. With help from the barista, whom I also struck up a cute little convo with, I decided on the Ujigawa matcha latte with no added sweetener. The matcha itself was very refreshing and vibrant. I don't think the picture I included does the color justice. If you don't like a bolder, earthy/umami matcha flavor, I would not recommend this specific tea especially not unsweetened. This latte was all I ordered so I have nothing to compare it to, but I liked it. I also had brought my laptop along to do some work, but was baffled by the only available outlets being on the ceiling. It's my fault for bringing along a laptop with low battery.. but still.
