I purchased a new set of eyeglasses in Florida and then moved here to NJ. I had a problem with the fitting and Sterling Optical was able to help me twice!!! At no charge to me!! The second time, Zoe spent a considerable amount of time helping to adjust a frame that appears to have defects as the underlying problem. Renee also got involved and they adjusted and worked with me tirelessly. Their devotion to their craft is evident. Their love for their customers (or future customers) is OUTSTANDING!!! I did not have an eye exam so this is strictly for the optical department. New to the area, desperately needing glasses and having a tricky Rx I decided to try Sterling since it was the closest optician to my house. I did not want to go to a big box or discount eye wear place, I've not had the best luck having my Rx filled at those places. The selection was very good, and I found what I wanted. However what was curious was the complete and utter lack of customer service. Nobody greeted me or even acknowledged me, nobody asked me if I wanted help selecting my glasses, and not once did I get a 'thanks for choosing us' or smile. It was one of the driest transactions I can remember. I ordered my glasses and they were excellent. Fit was perfect, vision very clear, warranty etc top notch. And once again, no greeting upon arrival, no smiles. Nobody even looked up. I don't know if the employees are so incredibly busy that they cannot be prevailed upon to greet customers, or if they are naturally grim people. Maybe it was me, or that particular mix of staff on hand, who can tell. But the glasses were great and that's what matters. read more

If zero stars was an option I would choose that! The doctor here LIED and told my wife and I that our current contact lens brand was discontinued. It was not discontinued he just wanted to push a newer, "better" version on us which we both told him we did not like after we had tried it. So after suffering through these awful, and more expensive lenses for over a year we did our research and realized we should have caught this from the beginning and left then. Shame on us, but I hope this can save someone from the same mistake. When I called the office to request my current and old prescription numbers so we could make a switch the receptionist was extremely rude. She then proceeded to tell me that I had made a decision to change contact brands. I laughed and then explained that in reality the Dr. had lied in order to forced me into this decision, and furthermore I really disliked the way I was being spoken to and simply wanted to get my prescriptions so that we never had to speak again. I believe she understood at this point and shut up. I would never recommend anyone to this office. read more

This eye doctor office is a great place to go for an eye exam. The staff are friendly and the exam is thorough. I appreciated the facts that were given to me when I told the doctor I wore my contacts way longer than I was supposed to. They also had a surprisingly large collection of eyeglasses to choose from. I thought since it was a small office they might not have the selection I was looking for. Pleasantly surprised to see some good brand names like RayBan, Elle, and Banana Republic. Their office also is competitive with contact lens prices, even online prices. You can order through their office and they will be delivered right to your house. I've been there a few times and on my most recent visit, I was waiting for 45 minutes before I got up to reschedule. That's never happened before, but they were able to give me an appointment that same evening where I didn't wait long. Would recommend this doctor for an eye exam, contacts, and glasses. read more

I've multiple experiences with this place. The first time, my lenses weren't ground to the proper line of vision - second visit corrected this. Last visit 12/31/2018 took almost 2 weeks gave me severe left eye strain, took them back. They re-ground the lenses, still caused left eye strain. The doctor(?) told me that South Jersey Eye Physicians maybe wrote the script wrong, or my eyes weren't used to working together (how stupid is that). Finally took the glasses to another place. They found my line of vision and focus points were way off, corrected them and have been fine since then. It cost almost $400.00 from Sterling, then $400.00 to get them right. Yet Sterling refuses to give me any sort of refund for their screw up. Will NEVER go back again. read more

I drive to Sterling Optical from Philadelphia to see my doctor, Dr. Welsh. Even when I was running late they were able to squeeze me in between appointments. Ken is the greatest, he helps me a lot when picking out what type of glasses are best for my face. He is the best I've had since I've been wearing glasses. Everyone is so wonderful here and knowledgeable. I always have the best conversations with the receptionist too!. Highly recommend. read more

Dr. Spivak was my optometrist from the day he opened until I graduated college and moved away in 2002. To this day, he is the only optometrist in four states to correctly prescribe me contact lenses. I went 14 years not wearing contacts as a result. When I moved back, Dr. Spivak was ever so welcoming and many of the same wonderful staff like Ken and Gina are still with him. The prices and selection are wonderful. The exam is thorough and geared to the patient. As a healthcare professional, I am more than proud to trust my eyes to Dr. Spivak and his team! read more

My children and I have been going to Sterling Optical for about 10 years. My son got his protective glasses here for playing sports when he was young, and then both kids had their first contact fittings from Sterling. We actually went to another Optometrist for one exam and fitting, because our insurance changed, and ended up going back to Dr. Spivak at Sterling because we were not happy at the other place. Even though it is not on our vision plan, we feel that our eyes are too important to go elsewhere. Everyone who works there does a great job. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, there is never a long wait, and Dr. Spivak personally cares about each patient. He takes the time to make sure that you are happy with your contacts or glasses. It is easy to get an appointment, and they work hard to fit you in around your busy schedule. Now that my kids are in college, they always go to Dr. Spivak at Sterling when they are home for their eye exams and contacts. read more

I saw Dr. Wallis and he was very thorough explaining the various parts of the exam. He and the staff were very helpful and friendly. They also have very convenient appointments times and their wait time is very minimal. Even without vision coverage their out of pocket cost was very reasonable and they have coupons frequently. read more

My 26-year-old who was a full-time student and recently graduated from Stockton University with her Master's Degree in Social Work, made an appointment with Sterling Optical in Deptford, New Jersey. She went into the office/store on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 to schedule a new patient appointment; the receptionist was very nice and pleasant until my daughter presented her insurance card and then the receptionist's entire demeanor changed and told her that the doctor who takes that kind of insurance is only in on Saturday's and she would put her in for 11:15 a.m. The receptionist did not even give her an option to schedule a time. My daughter's insurance is New Jersey Family Care and she receives this insurance because she is no longer eligible under mine and my husband's private insurance because of age restriction. Again she just graduated college and has not been able to obtain private insurance of her own yet. In any event, my daughter went to her scheduled appointment today, the receptionist was a different woman who was very pleasant and welcoming. My daughter was observing the people and employees around her in the store, it seemed nice and the doctor was just finishing up with a husband/wife who were spent $500.00 on glasses, etc. (apparently there is no privacy laws observed in this facility); the doctor was very pleasant with the husband/wife. However, the next patient before and the next patient after my daughter and along with my daughter, the doctor was very cold and did not explain anything; she said that he treated them like it was a cattle call!! The doctor did not explain anything to my daughter, he didn't give her an option to ask any questions and would get annoyed with her - he treated her like she was just another number! I have never been so disgusted in my life!! What a lesson for a new social worker to receive of how people who are classified in the "system" are really treated!! I know this is not the first time patients have been treated this way at this office as I have gone on-line and read reviews. I have every intention of bringing this information not only to the State but the public as well. The facility needs to clean up its act and maybe take some lessons in how to treat people. read more

I haven't had my eyes checked in over 10 years and I gave Sterling Optical a try since they're so close to my house. I'm so glad I did! I met with Dr Joanna Welch and she was fantastic. The eye exam was comprehensive and there are so many frames to chose from! Everyone on staff is friendly and they are clear on pricing and what insurance covers.
