Since being seen by Dr Nguyen at the very beginning of June, I have had nothing but hurdles to overcome in terms of trying to seek care for my sleep (or lack thereof) issues. Dr Nguyen recommended a sleep study at our appointment and referred me for such. The first referral was denied because of improper filing in her behalf, and it took over a week of calling daily AND messaging through the portal to have the referrals resubmitted properly. Then, the second round of referral was denied and I was told it was because she didn't complete a peer to peer consultation with my insurance. After calling to speak with the doctor on Monday, I was told by the office that she would be contacting me by Wednesday to discuss what happened with my referral. It is now Wednesday, and guess what! Still no word from the office or the doctor. I have also had multiple messages sent on my behalf from the sleep lab where the study should be taking place, and from the patient relations department. AND, because of the nature of this study, I am required to keep a log for two weeks prior to my study and be off of my medications for those two weeks before I can even do the testing. This, combined with the fact that referrals take up to (and usually max out on) a full two weeks to process, I am looking at a minimum of another month before I get any answers. Truly do not schedule with this clinic or provider if you value your sanity or if you are actually looking for a caring team to help you with your sleep issues.

My surgery had to be postponed because I had an unexpected issue that required surgery to basically save my life. Dr Hankins and his medical assistant Trish were so great in all the care they provided me. Regarding my husband, he fell on his left hand during one of his walks and broke several metacarpal bones. Dr Hankins surgically repaired the breaks and my husband has experienced excellent results. Many thanks to Dr Hankins.

It's the season for Thanks, so this review is long overdue…read more No one wants to have a problem with your hand, wrist, or elbow. We rely so much on our limbs and we don't give them a second thought until we have an injury, illness, or problem. I found myself in quite a bad way for over two years with my left arm. I had originally been seen and diagnosed with lateral epicondylitis (aka tennis elbow) by an orthopedic doctor I had been referred to by my then-pcp at Dignity Health. After a successful but short-lived response to a cortisone shot, I had an MRI. Surgery was recommended during COVID times which was rather complex as elective surgeries weren't even being scheduled. I was told it would be an open approach with a 6-8 week recovery period and additional weeks of physical therapy. I had never had surgery before and was frankly concerned. I then sought a second opinion from a hand and elbow surgeon in LA. He recommended a PRP injection. Then my insurance stoped contracting with Dignity Health and the orthopedic doctor. I then experienced a crisis with my arm resulting in an ER visit. My new Sutter primary care doctor recommended Dr. Hankins and said he was the only hand and elbow orthopedic surgeon in the Sacramento area. I saw Dr. Hankins and felt immediately at ease. He is a man of few words and lots of knowledge and experience. He knows how to assess and examine a patient without causing more pain. He advised more shots and perhaps surgery, although he said it was an option and could not guarantee a specific outcome. I was lured by the hype job of PRP and had the treatment in LA a few months later. When it did not go according to plan, and even resulted in an ER visit (it's not called experimental without reason), I hoped Dr. Hankins would see me again. Much to my relief, Dr. Hankins scheduled the surgery at my request, and never said a word about my PRP "experiment." I was hopeful that the disabling and crippling pain and immobility I'd been dealing with for three years had a chance of improving. I was also very scared of surgery (my first!) but I felt finally it had to be done. Almost 2.5 years after my surgery I can say it was the best decision ever, and Dr. Hankins gave me my arm back. He did an arthroscopic approach which meant my recovery was much quicker and my post surgical ace bandages and sling were off in a short time. Whenever I needed follow up care or PT referrals Dr. Hankins and his excellent medical assistant were there to help. Professional and caring. I highly recommend this practice and doctor. I would hope you wouldn't have a hand or elbow condition and need surgery, but if you do, there could not be a better doctor.
