I got my first plastic surgery (upper blepharoplasty and epicanthoplasty) with Dr. Bates, and I am thoroughly impressed with my results. I had excess fat, skin and muscle to my eyes, which made it difficult for me to blink effortlessly. The excess puffiness also caused for weak, shallow eyelids and noticeable asymmetry. I wanted higher, symmetrical, and deeper eyelid creases while maintaining a youthful and healthy appearance, and Dr. Bates gave me the exact look that I requested and envisioned for myself. Dr. Bates listened to all of my concerns during my two consultations and pre-op and ensured that he could deliver the results I wanted, which left me feeling certain about proceeding with him. I had breast cancer and selected Dr. Bates to do a full breast reconstruction using the DIEP flap method. I am overjoyed by the surgery. If had to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it an 11! My breasts are symmetrical and look natural. Many of the doctors who have examined me have said they are in awe of Dr. Bates' work. Dr. Bates is truly gifted and I feel so lucky he was my plastic surgeon. Dr. Bates has a strong team of nurses. I'd like to especially mention Ronces, a RN on the team, who has a wonderful disposition and was excellent at explaining the procedures to me. I did my homework before meeting him and that was very helpful too. This was my second breast procedure, and Dr.Bates was my first choice! In 2014, I suffered a silicone breast rupture. They found the rupture on my CT scan, which was the very last test they did at Dominican Hospital ER. I was in excruciating pain, and very shocked that Dominican Hospital had NO physician capable of extracting the ruptured implant! There were NO plastic surgeons available in my County, that had any availability. Thankfully, I contacted PAMF in Mountain View, and Dr Bates got me in same day, scheduled my surgery a couple days later. After receiving a letter from Allergan a few weeks ago, informing me that my textured implants were causing serious medical conditions in some women, I decided to have my implants replaced. After few months researching online and reading reviews I came across Dr. Steven Bates. My experience with him was beyond amazing! I first met him for a consultation in February and after that day I decided to go through the surgery with him. First, I wasn't sure which procedure I wanted to do from tummy tuck, breast lift and BBL. After going through a couple of options I decided to go with tummy tuck & lipo. I went to Dr. Bates for a corrective surgery from a mose surgery on the side of my face that was about the size of a silver dollar . Even the mose surgeon was impressed with the result. While the scar was necessarily large it was totally flat and smooth. He was able to keep most of the scar next to the hair line. It was easy to cover it with cosmetics because there wasn't a great deal of a color problem or a raised scar. He said that it would take about a year to completely heal but it's been 3 months and I am already grateful. read more

I had very a bad experience with Dr. Bates at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. A year ago he removed gel implants from my breast and cut too much tissue. Other doctors were terrified by his job. I was suprised to read the comment posted by another yelp reviewer. My experience with Dr Bates was just the opposite. I went to see Dr Bates to close a face laceration. I was nervous about going to the Urgent Care to have it repaired, so I called PAMF's Plastic Surgery Center to see if there was someone available to do the stiches. It was late in the afternoon and the clinic was about to close. Dr Bates was the only doctor left at the clinic, and after begging the receptionist to please ask, she did. Dr Bates was more than accommodating. He took his time and did a wonderful job with the stitches. At my last appointment, he gave me pointers on how to keep the scar from being raised and darkening. I'm a month out from having the stitches taken out and the scar is barely noticable. I definitely will go back to him if I decide to get any plastic surgery done. Thanks Dr Bates! read more

I have to agree with IY ...I met with Dr.Bates while going through chemo for breast cancer, this prior to my double mastectomy . He was referred to me by a fellow patient / physician . He initially seemed a bit standoffish or not very talkative. But after a second visit I felt very differently .He has seen me through an 11 hour surgery plus multiple revisions as recent as two weeks ago. Not once did he or his staff ever make me feel rushed or stupid for frequent questioning. He addressed all concerns immediately with out delay. He has gone above and beyond to meet my needs. There was a scheduling issue at one of my visits ( wasn't on the books) and Dr.Bates still saw me with in a few minutes of what was suppose to be my appointment and still did not rush me to get out.
