It seems they've gotten too big. Vogt has been my CPA for 8 years with very few issues. Recently I received a tax bill and after calling Az Dept of Rev with very few answers, I called Vogt's office. I was told no one was available but I could drop the paperwork off and someone would get back to me. A week later I got an email that I didn't understand. I called for clarity and after the receptionist tried to answer my questions I was informed that i needed to speak to a manager. None were available but one would get back to me within a few days. Frustrated, I took my paperwork back and just paid it. Feeling like just a number. read more

I have been doing my taxes with them since 2016 ,they had a great preparer at the time that got me to go with them. She left a few years after that. Things have not been the same since. Last year 2021 for the 2020 taxes , they had file them and then I was informed that they had to file them again . I ended paying the IRS twice , and they said I was not going to be charged for doing my 2022 taxes . I was charge and without a notice that they increased their rates as well i was charged . They don't honor what they promise. Very disappointing on how they do business. Very unprofessional. read more

This place is terrible. They only wanna help you if it's convenient for them. They never wanna speak directly to me even after I mentioned several times to them to contact me and not my husband as he is not good with responses or getting them paperwork so every time they needed something they would reach out to my husband and then when my husband eventually checked got the message to me. They are SO incredibly slow with getting information back to you. Ugh! Nothing but frustrations! I asked them when I sent in my documents do you have everything you need and they said "yes" I said I have this health form you guys don't have cause I never provided do you need that too? They said only if your healthcare is Through the market place to which I replied it's through my employer the woman then replied "no we don't need it then" a week passes by and then they are reaching out to my husband YET AGAIN to request this specific document I asked if they needed so of-course the information got relayed to me and then I sent it. Paid $250 a week goes by nothing so I ask my husband to call because every time I call somehow I get a patronizing person on the other end and they tell him oh yeah it'll be ready by Wednesday... we get the DocuSign then surprise we owe another $47 dollars to file... I'm absolutely over this place. Absolutely will not be going back. read more

I usually go to a wonderful tax prep company in Gilbert (Roberts Tax Services) but this year, during Covid, I decided to use this local business. The experience was unpleasant from the first visit. The woman I was dealing with did not seem to know what she was doing. One of the owners got involved and finally got my return submitted. Then, I get a letter saying I was being audited. When I called Vogt, they were less than enthusiastic about helping me and basically, just wished me luck. I have never been audited in my life (I'm a 68 year old, divorced, retired female). I could not figure out why I would have been flagged for audit and they were not interested in helping me find out so I got everything together that the IRS requested and submitted. Yesterday, I finally got a letter back from the IRS. It was very confusing and it said they were disallowing a lot of my write offs and charging g me a it more. Horrified, I called Roberts and they were so helpful and told me to send it over to them and they would take a look at it. I just received a call back from them and they explained why it appears I was flagged and actions we could take for the disallowed items. The flag was apparently a Vogt mistake. I will know more when I take my returns to them for review, and btw, no charge if I come back to them next year. I am not even going to the Vogt people to help me take care of this because 1. they said they would charge me and 2. I don't like them; they did a shitty job for me and they are expensive to top it off. I do not recommend these people. Go to Roberts in Gilbert; they really are good and they know their stuff. I made a bad mistake not using them. read more

Another tax year came and went, and Steve Vogt, CPA, did another excellent job. This year was a difficult year. Due to the poor economy/inflation, I had to cash in my 401s from two past employments and some stock investments and added these to my tax preparations. Steve Vogt, CPA processed all of these and completed my taxes, Federal and State. He filed it electronically, which expedited my refund. MR. Vogt has been doing my family's taxes (my wife's and my daughter's taxes) for over 17 years. He does a remarkable job, and I would highly recommend his tax service. read more

My friend had recommended this firm to me. Earlier in the week, I had filled out their online appointment request for 3 possible days/times. No one reached out to me to confirm any of the dates as their website promised they would. Finally, this morning...I called their office myself. I explained in depth to the receptionist what I had experienced. To add to the already lousy customer service, she decided to put me on a 10 minute hold where I finally hung up in disgust. I never get chance to meet with Steven and Interviewer does not have good knowledge about Taxes. Failure and Frustration at it's finest!! I have been using Steve Vogt CPA for several years now and this year was beyond frustrating. I went to them for their expertise and advice and I got lack of response, failure to file properly on their part and now I don't get my return and they say they can't fix it. When calling them to see what was going on because I was told the forms were all submitted properly, I received the runaround. It took four weeks over 10 phone calls unanswered or "we will look and call you back", never happened, several unanswered emails to finally speak to Leslie who then told me she would take care of it next week. I got a call from someone at the office today only to find out that they messed up, did not file the most important document needed and it's too late and they can't do anything. I am furious, there's no accountability on their part and clearly they do not know what they are doing. The only offering they gave is that they want to file my taxes for free next year! Are you kidding me? Like I would trust them ever again!!! We put our trust in them as this is their expertise and profession. Completely disappointed In response to owners comments. I did not get my Az return because your employee Jeff according to Candace did not know he needed to file the form. I come to your company and pay for expertise because this is not my profession. If you'd like I can post my call log to your company and I never said that my calls needs were met. I continually received the we will call you back but I was the one that had to follow up due to the lack of communication on your employees behalf. It's still to be determined on my federal return. I met with a representative of the company to file my tax return. It was an H&R Block experience where the representative checked boxes and put numbers in the squares. The rep told me Steve would then do the return. I made an appointment and returned with the same H&R rep who was supposed to explain my return. I was told my fee for services was $428. I asked for an itemized list of fees charged. The rep could not provide the fee schedule. I also asked the rep why my taxes were higher for Arizona from last year when my income went down. The rep had no clue. I told the rep that I wanted to talk to Steve and get some answers. I met with Steve a few days later expecting to get some answers. Steve didn't seem to be any more knowledgeable than H&R guy. Steve said he would fix my return and I could pick it up next week. I returned to pick it up and discovered the same return. Needless to say this is my last year with Steve. I expect my accountant to provide info on what I can do to lower my tax liability. I expect my accountant to use my data to get the best possible deductions. This didn't happen. read more

We were charged double for our taxes this year with no notice. We were charged $600 for our 2015 returns and $1100 for 2016. We were told reason for the increase was because my company showed a profit in 2016. They were doing my personal taxes not my company taxes. The company taxes had been done by another accountant in a different state. My company profit should not have had anything to do with the price they charged for personal taxes. We tried to get the price lowered but than they told us that it cost them a lot of money to file our taxes. The app makes you pick at least one star. A zero was my intention. I was really surprised they sent me an email requesting a review. read more

NO STARS! Last year I wasn't totally thrilled, but I thought I'd give them a second chance. Last year I was a little put off when I picked up my taxes that Leslie was making small-talk with her last client during my appointment time about their vacation, which cut my time short and she shooed me out the door saying "she had another appointment to get to." This year, I never even met, nor even saw Leslie. I met with some random woman who had such a heavy foreign accent, I could hardly understand a thing she was saying. After about 4-5 tries, I figured out she was asking me for their their "tax organizer." When I told her I didn't have that she scowled at me, but I told her I had my own summary list to which she said was great. She asked me absolutely no questions about my business, nor anything about any of the items on my list. I was told they'd have to file an extension because it was about 10 days before the tax deadline. 10 days? But okay. So I was told to contact them at the beginning of May. Wow, a whole month? So I called on May 2nd for an appointment to pick up my taxes and I was told it would be another 2 weeks because they were going on vacation. VACATION? Seriously?! This is their busiest time of year. I've waited a month, and they think it's appropriate to go on vacation? That is in serious bad taste. I ended up with an appointment for the for the next week. When I arrived there was a girl on the phone taking a whole bunch information from someone. She didn't so much as even look up and acknowledge me. Finally another woman walked out of an office and greeted me and said as soon as the girl was off the phone, that she'd take care of me. Really? No one else can help out? So I waited another 5 minutes or so while the young girl on the phone finished up, only to have the exact same woman (Krystal) that greeted me, say NOW she could help me. That was really weird, unnecessary, and a total waste of my time. So Krystal takes me back to an office and tells me that I didn't have my business miles listed, so they just used what they used last year. I told Krystal that it was on my summary sheet I provided them. She rifled through all the papers only to find "mileage (business)" written on my summary sheet. How much clearer could that have been? So she walks out of the room where I sat; waiting. Then after a few minutes she comes back again, sticks her head in the door, and asks me about another item to which I told her it was "home improvement." She didn't ask me what kind of home improvement, nor did she even give me a chance to elaborate, as she quickly shut the door and was down the hall. If she would have asked me, I would have told her that it was for repair to the HVAC for my home office because it gets so hot in there. I'd bet dollars to donuts that they didn't give me any credit for that. And really?...NOW they're asking me questions??? NOW? AFTER the return is finished??? So she finally comes back and rattles off a list - like I'd understand what all that mumbo jumbo meant, and tells me that I didn't have enough to itemize. Seriously? I had 2 major surgeries, a business trip, lots of business mileage, and I made less income than last year. I don't get it, nor did I really feel comfortable to even ask. At the very end she asked me if I had any questions. Uh...way too many to start asking at this point. I told her right then and there that I wouldn't be back. This office is an assembly line. Get 'em in, get 'em out as fast as you can. Don't ask the client any questions, because that would take up our precious time. There is NO customer service whatsoever, and NO rapport with their customers. It's all the about money. Last year I called and wanted to ask a simple question and I was told I'd have to make an appointment to which there would be a $200 fee for. Real nice! I found this experience extremely cold, unfriendly, awkward, and indifferent; doing as little as possible and charging way too much for it that ate up the majority of my refund. I WILL NOT be back. I was just the cash cow to fund their vacation. read more

I was disappointed with my process this year. There is nothing that they did that I could not have done. The initial interview went ok. The final meeting to pick up and sign my taxes was not so good. The interviewer did not seem to understand the tax form at all. When trying to review my returns he continually had to stop and figure out what he was looking for and what it meant. I have been with Steve for a long time and even though most times I could have done it with out their help. I go because Steve and his wife would take a few minutes with suggestions about the next years return and offer suggestions as to how to improve next year. This visit I felt like I was just a number being processed as quickly as possible with no appearance of personal service. I also had this feeling last year but because of my history with Steven I thought it was just a bad day for the interviewer. Friendly service and very fast turnaround. I went in the second week of February, received them back by the end of February and already received one of my refunds (March 9). I did not expect that fast of a turnaround for both Vogt and the IRS. They have a team approach to their service, but I haven't seen the same person twice. (my first year). We are Canadians with a US business, we were looking for a CPA in order to get our ID certified for an ITIN as well as file our business taxes. We were leaving the US due to COVID and told by this office not to worry they would put an extension through, well that never happened. We received a bill for $820 from the IRS due to late filling! It also turns out they don't certify ID for ITIN either even after being told they did. If you're a foreigner looking for Tax Preparation go somewhere else, you'll be better off! read more

Wow, I was a little surprised to see a bad review for Steven Vogt and his team. I have been using his services for almost a decade, and I have never had one complaint. In fact, I always find his staff to be super friendly and willing to help. Maybe I've been lucky and never had a mistake, but they always manage to get me back the maximum return. The only reason for not giving them five stars is the cost. I find them to be a little on the high side, but I suppose you get what you pay for. read more
