Went here with some local friends for a meetup. It's a standard pub with lots of beer, pub fare, and noisy fans cheering at the tvs when something good happens on the sports channel. Staff is always very friendly and I love that they show soccer games, not just all those other 'ball' sports. Their Highlander Stout is a fav of mine and the food is always delish - we've been here dozens of times and have never been disappointed. I really like this place. It is very close to home and I've always said I want to "be a local" somewhere. This might be the new spot! Do not let the strip mall location fool you. It is about twice the size I thought it was from the outside appearance. It is clean inside and the bartenders are friendly. Went with my wife on a Monday night. Only about 7 tables in the place had people. We sat at the almost entirely empty bar for 5 straight minutes in the quiet restaurant watching the bartender count his money and completely ignore us and avoid eye contact while the waitresses walked by and just looked at us sitting at the bar without so much as a hello or an unfriendly glass of water plonked down in front of us. They home make their beer. Awesome, I respect that. So since the beer is good, the food should compliment, right? Nope. It was disappointing. We both ordered the mac n cheese skillet. It was Very blah. Bland. No flavor. I almost poured my beer in it to make it take like something. The oil they lacquered the skillet with rose over the "food" and was in every crevice of the dish. I really want to like this place but after multiple visits, I won't be back. Most recently our server and played a hand in utter disappointment. The nachos were under cheesed and over done. The upcharge for extra pita to accompany our cheese plate was baffling. It was four pieces of pita. While it was nice and warm upon arrival, the added fee felt petty. Perhaps adding a few crackers to a cheese plate in addition to pita would've made more sense. You know, crackers and cheese sort of roll right off the tongue. I ordered a burger which came out well done when I asked for medium rare. Finally we were charged for drinks we did not have but unfortunately didn't figure that out until we had left. I have visited twice now. I absolutely love their nachos and have gotten that both times. I'm from SoCal and have found it difficult to find really good nachos with lots of real cheese rather than runny faux cheese whiz. Stewart's doesn't half-ass it! I'll start with the positives: 2/3 of the beers we had were very good, not amazing but enjoyable. I had the dunkel and my companion had the pilsner. Both highly drinkable. The pilsner kicked while we were there and my friend switched to a golden ale that was mediocre. Our server was attentive and made good beer recommendations. There was a good crowd of people enjoying themselves for a Tuesday night. The food was standard pub fare but it came out HOT and timely which I appreciate. Those were the good things. The atmosphere definitely leaves much to be desired. It's located in a large suburban shopping center and consists of a large square room with a drop ceiling, no booths and no decor. Sadly, the music was HORRIBLE - top 40/pop. I've been to hundreds of brew pubs across the country and this is the first one I've been to that plays music catered to teenage girls. I've been coming to Stewarts for years. . . probably more than a decade. They switch up the menu every so often and tonight was a big change of both their menu and their look since the last time I visited. Fast, good service and the beer is pricy enough to keep the Coors/Miller/Budweiser crowd out of the pub and leave it to the regulars who enjoy some craft brew (made in the next room!). A lot of folks I know call the place "too expensive" but then again, those are the folks that don't drink anywhere there's not that mass-marketed beer served for under $4 a pint. They really don't need to be here, leave it to the beer-lovers and folks like my wife and I who'll pay $10 for a plate of really good cheese and European sausages (I had a really good Scotch Egg tonight) and play a few rounds of Buzztime Trivia. It might be just me, but their IPA is to die for and the Double-IPA is for adults only. We hit the place once a month and it's always a good time with good service, good food, and cold craft beer. read more

This use to be one of my favorite places! The food was awesome UNTIL!!!! I ordered a crab cake which I have ordered many times before, but this last time my crab crab smelled like AMMONIA!!!! Yuck!!! Made me sick to my stomach and when u speak to management they look at you like you lying. Dude there's no reason to lie about a crab cake being bad. I've been a member of the mug club for years, and even though I live too far south to come regularly, I use every trip north as an excuse to go get my Stewart's fix. I'll state up front that this may not be a "proper" review because my friend and I stuck to the cheap happy hour food instead of the regular menu items. Having said that, our food was...meh. I ordered the potato skins, which were your garden-variety skins...nothing special. I also ordered the spicy Thai chili boneless wings, which were a bit better taste-wise, but probably cooked a little too long (as they were more crunch than actual meat). The atmosphere was fine...typical brewpub-restaurant hybrid. There was a giant chalkboard on one wall, listing all the seasonals. There were some TVs tuned into sports channels. There were plenty of tables, and you could see the fermentation tanks through some glass on one side of the restaurant. Service was mediocre. Even though there were only about six people sitting at the bar when we showed up, our bartender disappeared for long periods of time. He seemed friendly enough, but wasn't terribly attentive. Whatever the case, my friend and I were here for one thing: BEER. We'd heard good things about their beer on Yelp, and the bar was set pretty high. We could live with the basic happy hour food offerings as long as the beer was good. We each ordered a flight, and mixed up the seasonals in each so that we could sample as many of their offerings as possible. The verdict? I couldn't believe how watery this beer was. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to some bad batches, but as for what I actually tasted, it was not very good. Some of the pumpkin seasonals were better, and the barleywine had a strong kick to it, but most of what we tried was more typical of a home-brewer still perfecting his technique. We went there for lunch. Each got a beer and we tried a few others in a flight. Enjoyed the variety they had. Calamari was actually one of the best I had which included capers grilled artichoke and banana peppers. I had the beer braised beef over shoestring fries with queso. Serving was very large and fries crispy. Only reason I gave it a four is my fiancé ordered fried oysters. They were greasy and he went to eat one the oyster fell out of the breading. He sent it back and we shared my lunch. We even took a growler home. A little expensive but based on what you get it's worth going back. read more

I'm telling you this is the greatest bar in Delaware! I've been taking friends here for years. It's always fun because they have a great staff, excellent beer variety brewed right there, they have screens for all the sporting events and both darts and shuffleboard. They also have a couple of bar top touch screen games as well as the buzztime games. You'll have a great time here. I recommend the calamari friti (my Italian father in law swears it's the best calamari around) or the chicken nachos. The pin on the Yelp map isn't where the bar is though. I've been here a couple of times over the past month and both times were wildly different in terms of atmosphere. The first time was during lunch on a weekday; I and the person I was with were two of maybe six people people in this super open-air restaurant, if you count our waiter (I'm not complaining... that just gave me more space to let my gut hang out after the delicious meal). The second time was at around 1:00 on a Sunday in October. Translation: Football fans... and lots of them. It's been a while since I've been in a bar where there are literally fans from at least 12 teams sitting together without a hint of animosity. Maybe it was the amazing beer on tap that united everyone, or maybe it was the recent Ray Rice incident that united everyone against Roger Goodell with a sort of common hatred. Either way, it was an awesome experience. During both of my trips here, the food was amazing. The nachos were to die for, the wild game burgers were excellent, and the beer was top-notch. Especially good was an Oyster Stout - very smooth with just a hint of the nearby coastline infused. Everyone in my party during the second trip loved their food. The waiter was great - very attentive and informative. Don't sleep on this place. The facade is blended into storefronts in a shopping center, but maybe it's that "I don't need to obnoxiously stand out" vibe that brings in so many satisfied customers... at least on Sunday, that is. read more

A nice bar for Bear, DE. Beer selection is a bit limited for a place that has "brew" in the name. The food menu, on the other hand, is impressive. My husband and I love Stewarts. They always have an interesting selection of beer, their crab dip is fabulous, a diverse sports fan base, and they have shuffle board and darts. Went to Stewart's on a Saturday night for a bite to eat and a drink. Food was great. Truffle tots! Delicious! Wings were great. Seasonal beer was awesome. And the special Evil Scarlet marini was very tasty. We had a guest in crutches and from the moment we came in the door the staff was very helpful, seated us right away at a table that would work for us. Our server, Page, definitely made the night for us though. She was very attentive and what a great personality. She helped but making ver good suggestions that we took advantage of, and we loved every one of them. Paige is awesome! Your server is integral to your dining experience and a Paige is a real asset to Srewarts. We'll be back for sure. read more

This time it was disappointing We have been a couple of times before, and have enjoyed it. This time, we did not. Sat at the bar at lunch-time. Ordered a seafood soup and sandwiches. Plus a couple of beers. The soup was served first. Lukewarm. This is not only a poor service experience but also a food safety concern as seafood can go bad very quickly. I know, because I once experienced severe food poisoning from a seafood chowder that was served at a lukewarm temperature. Tried to get the waiter's attention, which took a while. Soup finally came back; again, lukewarm. No apologies the second time we sent it back. What was supposed to be a relaxing meal ended up being a frustrating experience. No apology. I am a regular at this fine establishment. I enjoy their food, the one of a kind beers and of course the atmosphere. I try to come in at least 3-4 times a month. I have never been disappointed in the food, drinks or service; that is until last night. Initially I had planned to simply speak to management and resolve the situation but because I am in there quite often, I did not want to become known as the guy who complains. So I am taking my grievance to Yelp (unfortunately). So here is the story: Last night I was in the restaurant at the short tables. my server's name was Gabe. While I was there trying to spend my hard earned money at a restaurant I love, I was made to feel like I was an inconvenience to him by simply being there. We (myself and my party) ordered food and beers. When I asked to have waters brought out to the table I could have been talking to the bathroom sink and gotten a better response. I had to request waters on three times throughout my dining experience. they never hit the table. Not a single glass. We watched as Gabe wandered aimlessly around the near empty restaurant, gazing at the rear ends female servers, playing on his phone and just generally being as disinterested in taking care of his ONE table as he could possibly be. I even contemplated going up to the bar to retrieve my own waters as that seemed to be the only way I was actually going to get them to the table. Instead, we decided to call it an early night and not stick around for any more beers. I really like this place, please make no mistake. I will return and continue to spend my money here, but I will also request to be waited on by anyone other than Gabe. I might even request the janitor (probably don't actually have one but my point is made just the same) serve us food in an attempt to avoid feeling like I am wasting the server's time. I wish I could remember the nice girl's name who waited on us last week, she was great and made us feel right at home. In conclusion; Food=Great (Nachos, Crab Cakes, Burgers all highly recommended) Beer=Great (Highlander, Monk, Helmet all highly recommended) Atmosphere=Great (Clean, Inviting, Accessable, 10/10) Gabe=Worst Server On Staff (would not recommend) I'll see you guys again soon. read more

Very disappointed in the beer and the food. Nothing about this restaurant stands out besides its mediocrity. Our server was pleasant but the food was average and the beer was disappointing. We had the wacky wheat and found it to be watery. Also it did not come with a lemon wedge. My husband had the crab cakes and they were mostly filler. I had the Stewart's country club and it was dry. Stewart's won the World Beer Cup Gold medal for their Kolsch blonde. It must be great as they were out. Instead, I had a great Wacky Wheat ale and the husband a Delcastle Brown ale. Beer masters Ric, Eric, and Al seem to know their stuff. However, what won our hearts was the Maryland style crab soup, a tomato based soup with lots of crab and potatoes. Yum. We also split a great spinach salad with a cherry balsamic vinaigrette. It was the soup that won the 4th star which would probably still be there if we had sampled the Kolsch. read more
