I've been obliquely interested in mysticism and the occult for most of my life, probably as a function of consuming tomes upon tomes of sci-fi/fantasy since grade school. It makes sense that I'd gravitate toward crystals and dreamcatchers; regardless of their genuine healing properties, I can wholly buy into the power of placebo effect. That said, my frugal Asian immigrant upbringing absolutely recoils at the idea of spending hard-earned income on rocks, no matter how pretty they are or how much they're touted to improve one's spiritual well-being. Over the past few years, I've been experimenting with adding in some accessories to my wardrobe. During a visit to Philly earlier this year, I accidentally shattered a cheap hematite ring I'd picked up as a souvenir from Shasta Caverns, and I've been keeping an eye out for a replacement. I spotted a bowl of similar rings -- except they were rainbow-y! -- at the cashier counter here and couldn't resist picking one up. I love how inclusive this shop is: they proudly support Native/Indigenous artists and they're queer-friendly, too. The obvious large percentage of fake, lab grown aura quartz, lab grown specimens, straight up glass and heat treated amethyst they were passing off as citrine is insane. So trying to become more spiritually intertwined and was in need of some sage to use in my apartment. Came across Stick Stone and Bone and they had exactly what I was looking for. The sage stick itself was a little bit smaller than expected but still enough for me to use around the apartment to put some blessings and positive energy in my surroundings. They also have crystals, rocks and other spiritual gems to use for your liking and other inquiries. Will come here again soon to re-up on some sage. read more

One of my top places to get stones. Have a large selection of tumbled stones. The more delicate and rarer stones are in the cases in the front and the back. Every time I come in - I find something new and lovely that I don't have. This visit - staff was the older woman and younger slim tall guy- both greet me. The gentleman is knowledgable. This place definitely gets inventory that sells fast- things I wanted in the past were no longer there the next time I visit so if you love something - get it then and there Not sure why I've seen poor reviews- the times I visit - staff always greets me and offers help. People complain that the stones are expensive. Honestly- the quality of gems are good quality and if you are buying rarer pieces- it will be expensive . How does not say that a 6 dollar stone is expensive. If people are being drawn to stones then my advice is to research your stones before your visit or while you are there. After feeling down about missing the semi annual stone and gem show, i was in desperate need of some new swag. I had bookmarked this spot a few months ago and decided to make it part of my self care day. The spot is a tad expensive i thought for some of the bracelets and amulets but the quality in the color was very rich. The loose stones did vary in price for as low as 4 bucks to about 20 ish. The person who assisted me was very knowledgable and really brightened up my evening when she told me to have fun working with my stones. That my friends was a very foreign concept to me though i had heard the term before. Those words actually opened the portal for me to step into the next phase of my journey. Stick Stone and bone is a rare but good find. If you have friends who are into astrology and crystals or healing and chakras , you are bound to find something for them in this store. If you have no effing idea about any of those things listed above, it still makes a great place to find a gift for them, but save yourself the headache, and bring them with you. It could be overwhelming by yourself. I do wish they had a little more space, and room to move around. I do not feel that they have enough room to display the huge amount of items that they have, and am very sure i glazed over quite a few items that would be helpful in my friends journeys. Went in there the other day with my friend and sis in law. We had our kids with us who LOVE to look at crystals and know more about them then Many adults I know. We stopped in after a show we saw down the street and thought it would be fun for the kids to see and especially since I'm always in the market for something new to add to both my sons and my collections. Totally understanding that it's a delicate place to be (as in things everywhere) our kids are mindful and were being careful. However, we didn't appreciate the store clerks hovering over them as If they were going to do something wrong. We're mindful parents who are attentive to our children. Bad energy, bad vibe, and extremely unwelcoming. In fact they didn't even say hello when we walked in. Besides all that their prices are high. I shop at namaste and aum shanti and will continue to do so. Too bad would have been cool to find another shop that sells crystals. read more

What a beautiful store! I wanted to pull in a mattress and live here! The merch is great, prices are great, and the employees were so friendly! Their credit card machine malfunctioned when I was there and caused me to be charged twice, but Merrill went above and beyond to rectify the situation. She sent me money via Zelle from her own personal account, (store will pay her back), just to fix this for me asap. Who does that?! Can we please have more humans in the world like her? There used to be a time when one would be able to go in to a shop like this and not only purchase supplies but also ask for some friendly advise about a spiritual situation. Well that doesn't seem to be the case with this store, at least not anymore. I approached the owner Heather Hayden, upon visiting the shop in an attempt to get further clarification about an item. Upon my approaching her to ask her my question, she seemed to have ants in her pants and appeared to want to get away from me as quickly as possible, as she fired off a hasty response, giving me the impression that she didn't have time for my petty question, (even though the shop only had a few other people in the store, and if she was truly busy she could have politely excused herself and directed me to another employee to further assist me). I then approached another one of her employees not wanting to further inconvenience her with my seemingly tiresome questions and while the other employee initially started to have a pleasant dialogue with me, Heather promptly interrupted us to ask her employee to retrieve some inventory for her. And while Heather may have legitimately needed said products/items, I got the feeling that she purposefully intruded on our conversation because she wanted her to stop talking to me and for me to just go away. Because I was a little put off by her curtness and because I have been frequenting this shop on and off for about thirty years I decided to do a little research about the the shop and it's original founders and their purpose/mission statement. I found it quite interesting and ironic indeed to discover that Heather Hayden herself had described, in an archived interview, how she came to befriend the original owners Yolanda Miller and Linda Curti many years ago as a teenager because she suffered from insomnia and would frequent the store at night. (And I'm pretty certain that her visits involved asking for guidance for her ailments.) It now seems however that it's more important for her to sell her items and move people along like a cattle call than to be a true merchant and converse with her clients (or at least let other employees do so if she's too busy). It might be wise for her to remember that part of the responsibility of owning a store such as this one (a spiritual/metaphysical shop) also involves offering guidance and pointing one in the direction of someone who can help them if they themselves can't provide an answer, and not just making a profit and shooing the customer away. I speak from past experience as this is what this shop used to offer me in its heyday (a sort of gathering place for like minded seekers to exchange ideas) and it's sad that that charming aspect of it has fallen by the wayside. I was really excited to make a trip to Stick Stone and Bone after so many years as it used to be one of my favorite haunts when I too was a teenager and when I lived in the West Village. I was really disappointed however with the vibe of the owner Heather and I doubt that I will be returning, which saddens me because there aren't too many stores like this around any more. It feels like the end of an era, a time when you used to be able to go in to a shop like this and have a good old fashioned metaphysical chat. Advise to Heather: Don't forget where you came from (the insomniatic nights where you sought refuge and the comfort that you undoubtedly received from the generous owners that knew the true meaning of compassion) and the type of responsibility that owning a store like this comes with. That is, the responsibility of being a steward of esoteric knowledge and a guide to those that need assistance and not just being a person that's just after making the all mighty dollar. While I know that a lot of stores have been affected negatively by Covid and perhaps that's the reason for your insensitivity, you've just lost a customer of 30 years and counting so I hope it was worth it. While the internet can be helpful for information gathering, nothing trumps good old fashioned human conversations and the exchanging of ideas. It's not just about selling your crystals but it's also about helping the person use the crystal that they're buying. Also, just because you play pretty music in your store doesn't mean that your uninviting vibe doesn't permeate through that music and can be felt by an intuitive such as myself and quite frankly a perfect example of the type of person that would frequent your store. This is all the more reason for you to be on your best behavior since psychic people tend to see right through this behavior (You should know better). read more

Nice little boutique shop to find that special gift for anyone who is into Native American arts or New Age things like crystals, incense, and smudging. My gal is into the Native American thing and I picked up a few pieces here on occasion for our apartment. Not the largest selection but sometimes they carry some nice artifacts. I think I liked the old layout of the place better. Seems different than a few years ago. Still, worth a look into if you are the type into unusual gifts and/or purifying a new space you're moving into. read more

Stick, Stone & A Lie. It was my first time visiting the shop and I was not greeted or acknowledged at all while other customers before and after me were greeted. Secondly, when I asked questions about different stones and meanings or advice that the staff might be able to offer, the only saleswoman in the shop declined to help me in any form and laughed at the idea of my inquiry. When I left the shop I called and requested for her name so that I could make a review and she told me her name was Joanne. Unfortunately Joanne failed to recognize her picture is posted on the site's website as Heather in addition to "Joann" being nowhere on the site for founders or staff. I asked her who the owner was and she claimed it was her. She hung up during the middle of asking about a way to get in touch with the founder. I called again to ask my questions about the business, in a completely calm and respectful manner. I requested information about getting in touch with the store's founders, Linda and Yolanda as listed on SSB's website. Heather/Joann became immediately defensive and said she would report me to the 6th precinct around the corner for harassment. There is no such thing has harassment when a customer is inquiring about the business. If you lie, are rude, and then realize someone is going to take action, fear/panic/anxiety usually sets in, which is why she escalated so quickly. Anyone can understand simple questions about getting in touch with the owner would not be harassment at all. Heather/Joann is a disappointment and shame to this shop. All in all, very disappointed that a place for peace has such a disruptive and dirty-spirited employee representing their brand. It is imperative that those who began this business understand that this is how their vision is being represented. As a quick side note, if multiple people are providing negative reviews about the sales staff, the saying goes: if you walk like a duck, talk like a duck, look like a duck, YOU ARE A DUCK! Very nice store! It is def pricey (I mean, this is def the neighborhood for that), so if you know exactly what kind of crystals you want, you might be better off getting them cheaper online or at a different store. However, the boutique-y vibe makes it a great place to browse through if you just want to look around or if you have a vague notion of what you're looking for. Although bigger stones cost *quite a bit*, they have a fantastic selection with enough range that you can always find a smaller, more affordable size of whatever specimen you're looking for. I really enjoyed the display as well, as things are clearly marked in an aesthetically pleasing. The written explanations of each crystal are also very helpful, and the salespeople were very nice and knowledgeable without being pushy at all. read more

The older lady who runs this shop is very rude and cold. I was looking for Lumerian Seed Crystals. They have them but over priced. No Tarot cards. Sage is way expensive. I'm guessing the shop owner might have a Stick, Stone & Bone stuck up somewhere cause she's grumpy. Went to St. Marks Street and purchased 2 Lumerian Seed Crystals for the price of one at this place and two times the size. Stick, Stone, and Bone has an extensive selection if you're serious about hippie stuff like smudging your place with sage or finding the right crystals. I came here before this place was remodeled to be narrower and lots more commercial. A woman named Sonia helped me several times when I was visiting, freaked out about purifying my new apartment. She'd keep the place open and help me find sage, beautiful but expensive Himalayan salt lamps, scarves, candles, and selenite candle holders to make the place my own. Easing my fear that I had to deal with "bad feng shui" and talking to me about the candida diet. I came back after the remodel to find poorer quality sage, a diminished selection of crystals, and generally a worse looking place. The cantankerous old lady (I'm using that instead of the b word) at the register ignored me for 20 minutes while adding together some woman's gemstone order. When the order was almost done I said, "Can I ask you a question?" Her response: "No you may not." By the time she could help me with my purchase, the place was close to closing and she refused to answer my questions, handing me a crystal book instead. I think she told me to google how to use sweetgrass. I selected two out of four Herkimer diamonds and was debating buying a $125 crystal. Instead of giving an opinion, she rushed me and answered in rude retorts until it was time for me to pay, she became a bit more cordial. I felt kind of sorry for this lady or else I would have made sure to use those last 10 minutes to tell her off. read more

Wow. Just WOW. Sorry to bring down the reviews, but I am utterly shocked at the way I was treated here today. After reading about it, I had been looking forward to coming to Stick Stone and Bone all week. I have been researching gemstones and crystals for sometime and was eager to get the staff's expert advice regarding some questions I had. I waited while they advised another customer as to what crystals he should look at for his ailment. They were suggesting things like "stay away from green and quartz, go for a raw blue stone." They even led him to the particular stone he should use. Great! Just the kind of advice I was looking for! When one of the staff members freed up, I went over and said I was looking for some advice about gemstones and crystals. Barely had my words come out when the woman tersely replied "You have to do your own research and then pick out your stones. We don't do that for you." Um, okay. So I said "I've been doing research and it seems like many of the stones' healing properties overlap so I thought maybe you could help me narrow down what I'm looking for." Again she replies rudely "We don't pick out customers' stones for them, you have to do that yourself." I was not asking her to pick out stones for me. It was bizarre, like she was angry at me for no reason. I was completely baffled because I had JUST HEARD her giving a customer advice on stones and crystals. I see they've helped many of the reviewers on here as well. Oh well. I was expecting to be a big fan. I am truly baffled. One star because they do have a nice selection of crystals and gemstones, but Godspeed if you have any questions about them. read more

I needed to clear the negative chi in my apartment and also in me. It's funny how you really need to keep your house clean and clutter free, to maintain your body and psyche clear and problem free. I usually place salt (natural) in a pile in the four corners of the apartment, especially the entrance to fend off negativity but I felt this wasn't enough. I asked one of the staff and she said black tourmaline and white sage should do the trick. So I went home, lit up my sage, let the smoke travel around (she said don't go crazy or you'll set the fire alarm off) and cleansed the rocks in it too. I have these two small rocks in my entrance and I really feel safe at home now. Now I've added rose quartz, andorange calcite to the collection. Going to go back for a pendant :) read more

I'm giving this place a 3 star review because I have been there 5 times. I have never been greeted with a Hello or any sort of welcome or help :( I myself wear a lot of gemstones like druzy, labradorite, ruby, citrine, rose quartz and other semi precious stones and they look at me like I'm an alien. Probably because I know the stones or they like my necklace? not sure... They could at least say hi or smile instead they stare. they have never once helped me...but I can help you I can tell you how the store is : -It's a small space... Maximum 5-6 ppl can walk around without breaking anything. Maybe no strollers... -The stuff is nice for children if they want to learn about fossils gemstones & crystals. -They have sage and other things of that nature. -They have candles that if you were to light them they would bring you luck, love, money, and good health etc. - They sell tumbled stones from $7-$15 -They sell the nice items inside the glass Such as pendants. After one particularly creepy evening in my apartment, I decided that some sage cleansing would not hurt... so I headed to Stick, Stone, & Bone to get the goods. The store was really tiny and cute, and, surprisingly, did not smell like a hippy grandmother. There were baskets of sage displayed prominently throughout the store, next to crystals, candles, incense, and jewelery. The sales lady was cheerfully bouncing from customer to customer, giving advice on which crystals heal which ailements, and even correctly guessing what type of bracelet one young woman was searching for. "Wow, how did you know, are you psychic?" "Well, yes, but I wasn't even using it. I've just worked here for a long time." Too funny. Since I was there I decided to pick up the well-designed Rider-Waite tarot deck that I've been spying online. While i was checking out, the saleswoman said, "These cards are you for you, right?" I assured her that they were. "Good, because you should never buy them as gifts. The reader needs to pick out their own." Cheers for the promotion of responsible tarot-ing! I have loved Stick Stone & Bone for years and was thrilled to see it was still open. They have the largest variety of crystals, stones, and specimens I've seen in a long time. The shop is long and narrow, and will take you some time to browse. For the most part, like items are displayed together, but there is a little bit of everything all over the place, so keep your eyes peeled for treasures, like at a bazaar. The superstars here are the rocks, but there's also a very decent selection of incenses, candles, and shamanic supplies (sage, sweetgrass, ceremonial tobacco, smudging fans and feathers). Also a smattering of books (mostly dealing in the use of crystals), tarot and oracle decks, and angel-themed products. Definitely has more of a new age or shamanistic vibe, rather than witchcraft or occult. Everyone should feel comfortable here. The staff was friendly. I stopped in about twenty minutes before closing time, and nobody rushed me or made a point of telling me they were about to close, they just let me look, and answered all my questions patiently. I bought several small items, and got a great recommendation from an employee on a product I was looking for that they didn't carry. It's always nice to see businesses helping one another out. They wrote down all the information for me on my receipt so I could follow up. Prices are reasonable. Like everything else, do your research before you go. I happen to know what a fair price for double terminated quartz points looks like, but maybe not everyone does! read more

This place is absolutely amazing. The people that work there, are very focused on what they do, personally, I feel this focus, reflects dedication to what they do for each spirit that walks through the door. If a person feels they want serious personal attention to learn about all the mystical wonders and treasures this store has to offer, go in on a slow day. I felt that I met and talked with two amazing and wonderful women. I was hurting the day I went in, though before I walked through the door, I worked on letting go of any negative thoughts that would block me from accepting the magic and peace that was within and opened my heart and soul. It's all about energy...how we produce it and how we receive it. I knew that if I brought any negative feelings in the store, or developed a resentment, due to my own negative thinking such as; I am not being helped "on my time" I know I would project that. I even missed a very important appointment, because I waited for my turn to talk to someone. Sometimes that is just the way it works. Know that there are very extremely, loving, caring and very knowledgeable people working in there. It is how we open our minds and hearts for our energy to flow appropriately with the people who do and give great guidance. Like I said I was hurting when I went in, I had an appt. (so like anyone else I was in a rush) though sometimes, I realize I have to let go of that forceful individual that says in my mind "I have to go... I have other places to be", and let that negative vibe and energy go, once this occurs the doors open and what our own soul receives is more than powerful, it is light. The shopkeepers are kind and helpful, the store is filled with crystals helpfully labeled with their properties and uses (a welcome sight for a novice). I was so inspired by all the varieties of crystals that I bought a velvet pouch and one or two appropriate crystals each for a few of my friends... everybody loved their gift and how can you go wrong for less than ten bucks? If it would not have bored my boyfriend to death, I could have perused the merch in this shop for hours. It's a tiny little place, but it's chock-full of delights for for the open-minded. I stumbled upon this place on a recent trip and picked up a few gifts to take back to my gem-loving son. The shop was run by an old but extremely vibrant Japanese lady who thoroughly entertained me while we paid for our items. Hand-written receipt, taking care to package up our gifts even though we hadn't requested it, telling us little stories in between. If you're in the area, check it out.
