Their beef Chili Relleno was the best I've had in decades! Whenever I go to any Mexican Restaurant, I always order a Chili Relleno. Sticky Cactus' brought tears to my eyes, it was that good. Order extra cheese dip to ladle more on it. The beef taco (no lettuce) was good as well as the beef burrito. Next time I'm ordering TWO Chili Relleno's and nothing else. We visited Sticky Cactus Mexican Restaurant and overall had a good experience. My daughter ordered the cheese quesadilla with fries, my wife had the cheese dip and a large strawberry margarita, and I ordered the fried fish tacos with rice and beans. The food was good for the most part. The cheese quesadilla, fries, cheese dip, margarita, fish tacos, and beans were all enjoyable. The only issue was the rice. It had a burnt taste, and once I tasted that, it took away from the rest of the meal a bit. Outside of that, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself was nicely decorated with a good atmosphere. I've visited this restaurant several times, and the California burrito is usually my go-to favorite. Unfortunately, today's experience was very disappointing from start to finish. When my waitress brought out my silverware, it was visibly dirty and greasy. She brought out four additional sets, and every single one still had residue on them. Instead of acknowledging the issue, she kept insisting they were just "watermarks," but this was clearly grease and leftover residue. At one point, she even asked if I just wanted plastic silverware. Then the food came out, and it honestly tasted burnt. The rice was crunchy, and the overall quality was nowhere near what I've experienced here before. When I asked to speak with a manager, the explanation given was that sometimes the black beans can taste burnt -- but this was more than that. I hate leaving negative reviews because I've genuinely enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but today was not a good experience at all. I haven't gotten any sleep all night because my stomach has been hitting the quan since 8pm yesterday. My sweet sweet relief was throwing up a few minutes ago and getting that God forsaken food out of my system once and for all. This restaurant was recently purchased and obviously the management changed. The shame of it all is one of the first things the management did was increased the prices but didn't improve the food. Since they have owned this place I patronized the place on at least a dozen different occasions. Unfortunately for me and the other customers on at least five visits during this winter, the temperature was, and I believe turned down around 7:30-8:00 by the owners on purpose by using a wi-fi controlled thermostat!!! On a few of these days the temperature outside was in the 20's. With that said, the indoors temperature was 66-68 degrees. Everyone in the restaurant, including in the bar had to wear jackets!!!! This is ridiculous and poor management. I anticipate the decline in this restaurant is eminent!! Not only that none of the employees can adjust the temperature for the comfort of the customers. The employees say I'm sorry there's nothing we can do! Absolutely a disgrace!!!!! read more

This is a two-edged sword kind of review. While as McDonough locals we have been to this restaurant a number of times, and the food is great, I would caution you not to order alcohol. We visited SC a few days ago and ordered a margarita with some good brand tequila. Unfortunately, when it came, one sip and it tasted almost rancid. We sent it back for that reason and asked for an iced tea. When the bill came, the charge for the margarita ($18) was still on there. The manager on duty said alcohol is "final sale." Never have I experienced a restaurant that charged for an unacceptable, awful tasting product. In trying to reason with the manager, she finally offered to split the cost of the margarita as if she were doing us a favor. I suggest you patronize Mexican restaurants with great food that don't have this bizarre policy. That's what my bunch is going to do. read more

They have a sign on the door saying they open at 12. You would think a small restaurant like this would open the doors a couple of minutes early when they see a party of 11 waiting outside but instead we had an employee give us a countdown of when they open. "7 minutes until.., 4 minutes until...., 2 minutes. We were the first ones on the door 12:01. It is 12:49 and 3 other patrons have eaten and left. Other tables are done eating and chatting. First time visit. Have been reluctant to try Sticky Cactus due to bad reviews on Yelp and by friends and neighbors in the community. Thanks to some recent reviews and new management, I decided to give it a shot. Very upbeat, friendly and fun. They had karaoke so that was a plus. My girls love to sing! Appeared very clean and the staff was awesome. The chips and salsa were awesome!! The chips were light and crispy and not greasy at all! I had Tacos de Asada and the Girls had Steak nachos. I love that they grill the tortillas just a bit so they have that delicious hint of a crust. The steak was a bit tough, but it was late and I didn't think to order it cooked a specific way and the server didn't ask if I had a preference. Being from Louisiana, of course I LOVED the grits. Very unique and tons of flavor. The girls devoured the nachos so I would assume they were great. All in all.... not the best Mex I've ever had, but I will be back to try something else. And its much better than the other Mex restaurants that are close. read more

My 10 year old son and I stopped in for a late dinner last night after his baseball game. He was sad because his team lost the game. The staff noticed how down he looked right away. The hostess brought him over stickers, a ball and even came back with some quarters for him! Alicia was our server and she was just wonderful like the hostess was. The staff went above and beyond to make my son smile. Not to mention our food was WONDERFUL! We have eaten there in the past but this visit was hands down, the best. I don't understand the overly negative reviews for this place. It's one of the downsides to user reviewed places; you'll always have the negative people who nitpick everything. I found the food to be good, taste fresh and portions to be reasonable for the price. Service was good and friendly. I enjoyed the chips. My only constructive criticism would be to suggest more seasoning in the dishes. Even adding a touch of salt to our salsa helped. read more

Not a bad little place to eat... We have been here a few times with our family and have never seen it really busy. I'll agree with the other reviewers about the menu being small compared to other Mexican joints, but that doesn't mean it's limited. We have always found something good to eat. The menu is not so limited that we wish we had gone to eat somewhere else. After all, its Mexican food, how many different variations do you really need? Most of these places can be judged by the salsa. Sticky Cactus salsa is some of the best. Great flavor. I think I have eaten about 459 bowls total. Yea, 459. I gets down like that. Never had bad service or an experience. This isn't one of those places where you leave saying "Holy crap that place was so amazing!" but it certainly is not bad either. One of the main reasons we like this spot is because it is off the main path, so while everyone waits 5 days for a table at La Parilla and eats in an atmosphere loud enough to be confused with a Korn concert, we are in and out with full bellies. read more

Update- I've been back twice in the last month and things have definitely turned around at this place. Mainly the food quality which is leaps above my previous experience, perhaps this is because of new ownership. I've had the chimichanga & burrito mexicana and both we pretty good. We went on wing night and tried a 10 piece mix of lemon pepper & medium. Wow, the wings are really good here! although smaller than most places sometimes I actually prefer that. The medium wings didn't have much sauce flavor at all but for me that's to be expected since I typically get mine on the hot + scale. The chips and salsa are very good as well. i think they may have gotten a regular visitation back from me at this point. I would say give it a shot or another shot if you haven't been here in the past year or so! I'm only going to up 1 star from my previous rating for now, but if they continue to impress with other dishes I'm going to give them another one read more

Pretty small place. took too long getting the food out. Portion wise I was really disappointed. Even my friend commented on the grossly minuscule samplings. The food itself was sub par to okay. The price range is okay. The menu does leave something to be desired, as there is not a very large selection. This seems to be a mexican restaurant for the sake of people settling who don't want to drive an extra 15 minutes to something far better. Very clean and attempting to be an upscale Mexican place. Food is on par only. Nothing special but has good flavors. The outlier is the made to order guac which is usually made table side but not when we ordered it. Good for family's or small groups. The chips and salsa are decent with the salsa a little on the hot side which I love. Their house special enchiladas are also pretty good. Downsides, the place is serviced and run by kids. Have had mixed up orders or forgotten items, et cetera. Been here a total of five times now and we will go back if we are on that side of town. The parking is also not adequate and we left with a ding in our door due to the small parking spots. Not worth a special trip or pilgrimage. read more

I just lost an hour of my life to terrible service at Sticky Cactus in McDonough, GA. Waiter brings the non-alcoholic drinks and goes back to get the beer. 5 minutes later, he is playing with the hostess behind the hostess stand. I had to get his attention to go and get my beer. 25 minutes later, the waiter came over to tell me that the kitchen was out if what I ordered. Cancelled the order and left. I have had more poor experiences there than good. It's convenient, but I won't be going back. The only good was that the manager comped three soft drinks and a beer. read more

We were so excited to see this restaurant open after we'd been forced to drive across town for our Mexican fix; however, this restaurant is horrible, and I would gladly drive across town to avoid wasting my money here. **Please note I've waited months to write a review hoping they'd work out their "kinks," but it's just not so. Every time we go the staff is just "off." They are flustered, untrained and inexperienced - I feel like everything takes so much longer than it should because they are all so distracted talking to each other. The food is not good for the price; although, I will give them props on their chips and salsa. The chips are the crispy thin chips, always served warm, and the salsa has improved tremendously since they opened. The last time we went, we decided to give them a third chance. When we arrived, they were not busy. It was a nice day, so we chose to sit on the patio. We sat...and sat....and sat. Chips and salsa were brought out, but no server came. We waited 20 minutes, and no one came to take a drink order. We got up and left and took our business to Toribios, which isn't much better food-wise, but it's better than Sticky Cactus. Maybe this place works as a place to drink and eat chips/salsa at the bar. They have some pretty fun live music, and the bar staff seems attentive enough (I sat there once to pick up a to-go order and he gave me a free diet coke). Overall, I would just say skip this place all together. I am SO HAPPY that Padres finally opened by Publix. Just keep driving toward town about a mile and get your money's worth there. read more

I've been here a few times. This is one of those places that its hard to put your finger on. If you go here once and throw up a review it could be 1-2 stars depending on how strict you are with your star ratings. If you go here 3-4 times and try something different you'll probably understand the people that post the 5 star reviews. The first time I went was a disappointment to say the least. I got nachos. The meat was flavorless. The service was slow. It just wasn't good. They never refilled my drink... For some reason? I came back. Still here? Good. If you weren't you might miss out on some good mexican food. The tres amigos enchiladas caught my eye. A couple weeks after my first visit I returned and the Tres Amigos enchiladas were great! Seeing that its a sampler platter I'm going to assume this place knows enchiladas. The service was spot on. The salsa was enjoyable. I've been back and tried the grits and they are outstanding even though it is a bit weird for a mexican joint to have grits. Since my first visit, I've never had a 'bad' experience. I have had mediocre experiences. I have had good experiences but never something as bad as the first time. I'm pretty confident at this point that I can tell you to go and you won't leave super angry. I am not confident that I can tell you to go and you'll come out super pleased. read more

Wife and I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla Locos to share. Menu said it was covered with lettuce, tomato and sour cream. When it arrived, it was also covered with shrimp which I am allergic to. The menu didn't mention the shrimp and the waitress admitted it's not on the menu. If my wife hadn't noticed the shrimp, it could have killed me. I had to order a separate entre' and thought the restaurant would do the right thing and comp it since I originally wanted to share an entre' with my wife, but no, they charged me for it.
