FINALLY Zach and I made it out onto Lake Belton! We tried last year and Frank's was doing some…read moremaintenance on the bobcats and then we just didn't get around to it. So we showed up today a casual 10 minutes late. I'm always stressed about being late and they were very cool with it which immediately relaxed me. I think the marina itself could use more signage as we didn't see where to go to check in and had to be directed by someone else on the dock. We find our way, one of the employees said she was going to check that our bobcat was working (really appreciate that, always want to know it works) and we checked in inside. Without prompting, they recommend some cool areas of the lake to check out. This was excellent and I loved it. Zach was driving, so I was thriving, and they had wine on sale for 20% off, so they twisted my arm and I ended up with some delicious, cheap, plastic, single-serving bottles of wine. They were very patient with my nerves as we got loaded onto the boat and I tried not to lose all of my items. I really misinterpreted the size of the boat and, as I always do, overpacked. We did not need towels, we did not really need ... anything .... except maybe the wine. They gave us a great overview of how to steer the bobcat, cuz it was a little different than what we are used to with big boy boats, and we were off! We had a great time, we made it back alive, we signed a paper saying we were alive and had returned their bobcat, and they surprised us by saying bobcat rentals no longer have to pay for gas. We did not argue and hippity hopped it out of there. They made it so easy, the price is reasonable, they seem to have pretty open availability, and you can rent by the 1/2 hour. I can see us having a date night where we grab some dinner at Deadfish and then take a bobcat out for an hour to watch the sunset from the lake. This is my life now? No complaints.

They do not do refunds no matter how far in advance you call. They told me (somewhat proudly) not even for the lady who lost her job. (Ok...) Keep in mind that their website says "first class boat service". We arrive at the dingy, seedy little place, walk down the rotting dock gang plank to the "marina shop". We waited in the filthy office for 10 min. Not a soul in sight. Hello!! HELLO!!! Nada... The phone rings and this lady pops out of some room. Oh!! What can I do for you? We rented a boat for today. You did??! Uh...yes, we did! She looks on the computer, nothing. I don't have you down... She looks in a binder. Oh! There you are! Then she proceeds to tell me some employee who is 78, (bless his heart) must of put us in there. They are not ready for us at all. I think...the 78 yr old had no trouble charging me the full amount almost 2 months ago. The lady is nice and I feel bad for her. She runs around trying to get a boat ready for us. (Not the one advertised on their site and I thought we were getting.) She apologizes when the boat doesn't start and tells us she knows nothing about boats. (Are you kidding me?!) She gets some younger lady to help get the boat ready. She takes a battery jumper and hooks it up to the boat battery and explains, with a cig dangling from her lips, that its no problem. If the engine dies, just hook the jumper to it. (Are these people serious?!) Then she takes the boat out to turn it around and back it back in to fill it up with gas. (Sorry, in my opinion first class boat services already have your boat ready or at least gassed up. ) My kids look warily at me as they carry their towels and swimming noodles on board. Thank goodness we brought a cooler of food and drinks. Otherwise the the only option was cheap beer. No snacks, no boogie boards or tubes to rent. Nothing. Not an apology for making us wait, for giving us a boat that might strand us. If we hadn't driven so far, and the kids so excited, i would have canceled on the spot. Thank goodness my husband knows about boats because they didn't explain anything about it. How to drive it, nothing. We got on board and left the floating dive. We anchor off a nice sand bar, swim and have a great time. Naturally when we start the boat up to head back, the battery is dead. My husband spends 20 min getting the battery charged. Basically, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It's shabby, filthy, ill run and completely disorganized. be careful not to fall through the soggy squishy bathroom floors. Website is not what you get. I have no idea where the pictures are from. If your gonna spend $300 and gas costs for 4 hours, go somewhere else. This place is a joke.

We stayed in the "floating cabin" for $165 a night over Memorial Day weekend. The cabin is next…read moredoor to the marina, almost attached, and is basically a hotel room with a boat slip. Be aware that although it states "cabin" it has the bare essentials and we had to ask for toilet paper, towels, clean sheets, coffee maker, light bulbs, and a grill. If you plan on staying here you will need to bring your own utensils and toiletries (if you typically use hotel soaps & lotions). Our view faced the backside of the marina, which is not the view on the website. Our view was more dilapidated than rustic and saw heavy foot traffic where everyone had to pass by us to gain access to their boat slips (they can also see inside your cabin). The convenience of being on the water and having our boat in the slip was the appeal but not sure the accommodations/amenities are in alignment with the cost...maybe the word cabin is misleading and should be advertised as "floating room". Also, the restaurant is no longer there.

Three of us caught 130 fish in four hours and it was SO much fun!…read more Bob Maindelle is no ordinary guide: he graduated from West Point with a BS in engineering and made a living in and out of the service as an environmental engineer and minister. He worked with Mepps to develop his signature MAL lure which we used exclusively on the trip. He has a custom designed center console boat crammed with LOTS of state of the art electronics, including FIVE Garmin LiveScope monitors with a separate LiveScope transducer for each side of the boat. All of us were amazed at the ability to see our lures go up and down and see the fish respond to them. We chose Bob Maindelle because we wanted a good lesson besides catching a lot of fish. He totally delivered on this with detailed demonstration, description and coaching on the very specific ways he fishes the MAL lure vertically and horizontally. He had separate rod and reel setups for vertical and horizontal fishing: slower reels with softer tips for vertical fishing and faster reels with stiffer rods for horizontal fishing. Bob also gave use a good lesson on how he uses his marine electronics. He uses a Humminbird Solix as his primary fishfinder in for sidescan mode and it is linked to his Minn Kota i-Pilot Linked trolling motor so he can mark a location on the fishfinder's touch screen and then send the trolling motor back to that exact location with a few more touches. He carefully explained the importance of positioning the boat downwind of the mark before commanding the trolling motor, so that the boat will be positioned correct when it arrives at the marked location. His attention to detail is exactly what I expected out of a West Point engineer, but he has an excellent ability to explain things so that less technical individuals can understand. Bob also pulled up Canyon Lake on his fishfinder map and showed us a bunch of places for us to try fishing on our home lake. We will certainly bring our boat up to Lake Belton for Bob's on-the-water sonar training class to make sure our electronics are properly installed and the settings tweaked to maximize our units' fish-finding potential. Based on Bob's demonstrations, we will be adding additional electronics to our boat to improve our fishing. White Bass fishing is fast-paced with lots of fish being caught. It is PERFECT for younger anglers who need a lot of action to stay interested. It is LOTS of fun for all ages. Bob makes it all so easy and fun and he is reasonably priced.
