The dealership was over $1800. After looking on yelp I found Joe at Broadway transmissions. I was able to talk to him and was quoted $900-1000 for a brand new clutch. He was able to pick up our car after lunch and was very courteous to my wife. My wife was able to catch an Enterprise rental to return to Dallas. Our car was fixed in just a few days and has run beautifully every since! We were able to pay his wonderful wife by credit card and pick up the car over the weekend even while they were closed. I wouldn't have trusted this business as much if they hadn't had such great YELP reviews. They are an honest, attentive and professional outfit! You won't go wrong with their servce.

After an acquaintance suggested Edmond Discount Transmission, I trailered the car there... The owner was super friendly, and helped me unload the car from the trailer -- he even put away all the straps and chains while I drove the car off the trailer! I didn't ask him to do that! What a super cool dude! Within 24 hours, he had diagnosed the problem, fixed it, test drove the car, and returned it to me -- AT NO CHARGE!!! I was flabbergasted! No charge?! Now, I have paid $2,000 and my car is no better off than when I first drove it on their lot. Longer version: I took my car in due to a noise that sounded like the transmission. I told the manager upon arrival that the car is old and I am not looking to spend more than $3,000 since the car is not worth that much. If the problem was the transmission, I would likely not pursue repairs. I was told after the diagnostic results came in that the problem was not my transmission but was the wheel bearing. I was relieved that the cost would be less and consented to repairs as well as some fluid flushes, which I also would not have done had I been told that the transmission was the problem. In total, I paid over $2,000. This included having to pay to replace a part that the mechanic broke during repairs. After picking my car up and driving it, the noise I heard still remained. I took the car back to AAMCO and was told that they misdiagnosed the wheel bearing and that the transmission was the source of the noise. I asked for a refund since they charged me for something that my car never needed. I was not given a refund and was instead offered a discounted rate at having a rebuilt transmission. I have in writing that the manager stated they misdiagnosed my vehicle, but AAMCO is refusing to do anything other than offer a discount for a service I don't even want. I will be replacing this car due to the nature of the needed repairs.

So I read up on my options, saw some good reviews on Sprinter forum, and contacted Silverstar. They answered all my questions. So I ordered their rebuilt trans for $2500. (Mercedes remanufactured was quoted at about $6400) Something went wrong on the install and a threaded connection on the bellhousing that holds the cooling line failed. That ruined the trans. Unbelievable. Then came the finger-pointing between dealer and Silverstar. Now I was on day 14 in a hotel, absolutely raring to get back on the open road but still stuck. Then I got an email from Silverstar saying, "My friend, you're between a rock and a hard place. That's why we're sending a warranty transmission.". Huge relief. It shipped right away. In all likelihood the problem happened at the dealership and it wasn't a faulty unit, but Silverstar stood behind their product -- as they promised up front. All's well 1000 miles later -- Thank you Silverstar!!!
