At the end of two months, we were told they "lost the diary" so when I called, they said, oh, yours must have been one of the lost ones. NICE. Stillwater Homeowners Insurance sent us a cancellation letter after being their client for 9 years with NO claims. They went to our home unannounced and complained in the cancellation letter about not getting into the backyard. I guess they expected us to leave our backyard gate unlocked 24 x 7 so they (and anyone) can come in and take pictures whenever they want. When I contacted my agent, she said the cancellation letter is a way for Stillwater to tell us that they want pictures of our backyard. Why not say that in the letter or even better, let us know they're coming so we can leave the gate unlocked. When I sent them pictures of my backyard, Stillwater's underwriting needed more than 1 month to review it. I ended up cancelling my insurance with them because they're taking so long and at that point, I read so many bad reviews about them too. read more

Horrible insurance company. My boyfriend and I are currently fighting a claim they denied. We had a water leak which buckled our floors. I can't open my back door all the way and I have a huge hump in once section of my floor and the floor panels are rippled in another spot. They claim that the previous owners had water damage so they can't tell what's new water damage and what's old! Then what are we even paying you for if you aren't going to cover it anyway? They are slow to respond and I feel like they are jerking us around. It's been about 2 months of this back and forth. Now we're jumping through hoops to figure out what to do next. Only went with them because I went through Geico for homeowners insurance, and they outsource for that apparently. The one time in nearly a decade we filed a claim, they begrudgingly sent out an incompetent auditor, and then paid maybe $1200 for what amounted to a full kitchen renovation costing nearly 30k. No surprise, they found a few obscure problems with the outside of our house during an unannounced inspection to justify dropping us. This is the WORST INSURANCE AGENCY EVER. Do not get insurance from this company. After I canceled renters' insurance because I bought a house, they continued to debit my bank account months after I canceled. They have an attitude toward me, and they do not want to refund my unauthorized payments. The people who emailed me were Virginia Hodgdon, Processing and Support Manager Stillwater Insurance Services, Inc, and another woman who also had an attitude in an email to me was Shandria Graham. I don't know who Stillwater has working for them, but they need customer service training, ASAP. If you get insurance through this agency, be warned if you need to file a claim, they may not pay out since they can't even pay me back the unauthorized payments they took from my bank account for a canceled policy. My family got referred to Stillwater by an insurance broker and we have been insured by them for both our three vehicles and home for seven years. Yesterday my car got vandalized and the thugs broke driver side window and damaged the windshield. I called their claimed and filed report right away, however, after countless phone calls with many different represenratives and three adjusters/whatever they are, there is still no clear instructions on where and how to get my car's window & windshield replace. One adjuster claimed to email instructions to the auto glass place, but nothing. The final phone call at 2pm on a Friday, the rep said they all left and I have to call back on Monday. I have to work, my car us expose to theft and thugs, rain could further damage the interior. What kind of fcken insurance company does that? Our condo development in Colorado suffered severe roof damage from hail. There was a $10k assessment for new roofs. We thought our H06 condo policy had $20k of assessment insurance and filed a claim. We were directed to the fine print which said assessment claims are capped at $1000 per claim. Stillwater is the worst but that's what you get when you bundle your car insurance with Geico. In the last 2 years they have more than doubled the cost of my insurance policy. I had them for almost 20 years and never filed a claim until this year. When I did file a claim for a leaky roof, they said they would not cover it because it was a maintenance issue. Read the small print because they stated that I should have had the roof looked at every 4 years. WHAT? Roofs should last for around 30 years according to roofing contractors in my area. They will do whatever they can to get out of a legitimate claim. They just want your money, but heaven forbid you need their assistance. And the claims agent was not helpful. Installed a copper strip along the top roof line to combat algae and mold on the roof. The 1 star reviews are right. I used them for one year on my first ever home. They were not professional at all. When I first signed up, I got a call from a random number without any warning from the company that he was going to come to my house to look at it on behalf of the company. No warning or notice was given - he could've been a random man sent to the house. I also got a non renewal notice because of the condition of my pool, which was recently renovated. Apparently the company sent yet another man, without notice, to my property without my consent. They observed that my pool had too many leaves (it was fall and I am in a forested area with lots of trees). I have a pool service that comes every other week and the insurance company happened to send a random man to observe my property in the middle of thanksgiving week when I was out of town and in the middle of the week with the lost leaf fall. I am in the middle of moving my home insurance out of Stillwater. The insurance is via Geico and I have never heard of them before. A portion of my backyard fence is broken due to recent rain and high wind. The fence is shared by 3 neighbors so it took a while to get everyone to act together. The fence company is all backed up and they wont come to repaire until early July. Around the same time Stillwater sent a guy over to take pictures of my home. I just got a letter saying they will cancel the insurance unless the fence is repaired within 30 days. I told them it is not possible as the earliest repair is early July. They told me the 5/28 cancellation date is firm. It is such an unresonable request. The fence repair cost is only a few grand while my deductible is $5K. Just let everyone know Stillwater's bad act. They canceled our policy because our $150 kid's playhouse wasn't up to their standards. We recently switched to Stillwater because our previous homeowner's insurance provider got bought out and they were no longer issuing policy renewals. A little over a month after switching, Stillwater informed us that they are canceling our policy because our kid's playhouse in our backyard isn't up to their oh so lofty standards. During the summer, my wife had purchased a small building to use as a kid's playhouse for $150. Obviously, I don't care about insuring my $150 kid's playhouse, but they didn't even give me an option to exclude the playhouse from coverage or even to dispose of it. Just, wham your policy is canceled, you have two weeks to find replacement coverage. On the bright side, if Stillwater makes asinine decisions like this, we are probably better off not doing business with them anyway. read more

Cancel our policy saying we have damaged foundation. This policy is 1 year old. The only dame we can find is the small cracked area in photo. It is in front of the cement foundation. So would not cause any further damage. Called customer service they are absolutely no help. There us also no way for me to get in touch with the local agent I bought the policy through. If I could give this company zero stars, absolutely would. If there is a claim, they will deny it. They are rude, dismissive, trained to run circles around the client. We were told our claim would be covered several times (including by field inspector for Stillwater, who repeatedly reassured us that our policy coverage would without question cover our issue) ..only to be rejected at the very end by the desk adjuster (who at first, also said we would be covered).. This after we submitted idk how many documents -from several subcontractors- outlining the root of the issue. When we got the rejection letter several weeks submitting the claim, we called Stillwater only to be hung up on by the field adjuster's supervisor lol- who said their decision was final. The best part is when they tried to blame us for not "noticing our issue sooner" because the issue was in a guest bedroom, not the master suite. Four years ago I had water damage from a leaking dishwasher. I don't remember the exact amount of the claim, but it was about a few hundred dollars. Now, 4 years later, I had roots from my tree get into my pipes and backed up sewer water into my bathroom and carpet. They sent me a check for $3600 or so. That's fine. But then they dumped me! Since I had received over 2k in reimbursement for lumber from my friends and family I was considered a business. They did not cover my personal property or the building because if it even though my premium's were paid in good faith for years before. Florida company that possibly still follows 'redlining' practices on clients of color and/or LGBT clients. We tried to get homeowners' insurance through GEICO and unfortunately they set us up with Stillwater. A couple of weeks later we received a letter from Stillwater saying they were cancelling our policy because "the entire roof needed to be replaced due to some shingles curling," and gave us less than a month to accomplish this expensive task during the peak of COVID. (The asphalt roof was replaced ten years ago, does have a few slightly curled shingles in the front but not to the extent that the entire roof needs replacement; it does not leak, and is in pretty good shape actually.) My house is paid for so luckily there were no mortgage entanglements, so I told Stillwater/GEICO that their demand was unreasonably burdensome and to take a hike; I went to Allstate instead with whom I also set up a new policy for a rental I own as well. (Interestingly, Allstate had no problem with my roof and continues to be my carrier for both houses.) As an LGBT person, I can't help but wonder if the ridiculous re-roofing demand was deliberate -- modern-day version of 'redlining' in an era where bigotry has become normalized. And, well, Florida......... Obviously, Stillwater didn't want me as a customer after their background check so they set up impossible conditions for me to keep the policy.
