The space inside is fairly small with an industrial look that somehow manages to feel cozy and a little stiff at the same time. If the weather is nice, the outdoor seating is definitely the way to go because there is a ton of it. Our server was friendly and had some really helpful recommendations, which I appreciated. The one downside was that they did not check in very often. Normally that would not have bothered me much, but the restaurant is very strict about table time limits, so it created a surprisingly stressful dining experience. It felt like we were racing the clock while also waiting to get our server's attention. The drinks started things off on a decent note. The banana bread latte was good, but I honestly could not taste any banana bread. The espresso martini was also fine, though it leaned pretty bitter and was not the easiest cocktail to sip. The food was all over the place. The mini donuts were easily the biggest disappointment. They somehow tasted overfried while also lacking sweetness, which is not exactly what you want from a donut. The monkey pancakes were much better. They were loaded with sweet toppings, but the pancakes themselves were not overly sweet, which kept the dish from becoming overwhelming. I also tried the pork belly biscuit. The biscuit itself was delicious, but the entire dish was absolutely drowning in sauce, and the pork belly was much chewier than I expected. Overall, a pleasant experience! The restaurant was jam packed and it took the waitress a little while to get to the table. The drink list was very long and it was hard to choose from so many good options -- I ended up with the morning buzz and it was strong but pretty delicious! very sweet ! The pictures say it all in my opinion. I love this breakfast spot because of their mix of sweet and savory items. I always bring friends here who are visiting MN and it's always a hit. Service is always prompt and helpful. I would say they sometimes are not the most attentive which is why I give 4 stars instead of 5. Plenty of seating and cool environment. I've been a big fan of Hope since it opens. And I'm thrilled to see so many locations open. A new favorite of mine was the chicken and biscuit. I added an over easy egg for that delicious yolk burst. The chicken had the literal best hot honey drizzled all over it. Hard to eat but 1000% worth it. My partner had the chicken and waffles. This is the bone in version. So much chicken!! And that maple jalapeno syrup was spot on. Giving 4 stars because I feel like service has gone downhill. Even with a reservation, you can have quite the wait. Excellent! My girlfriend and I made a reservation for 2 for a Saturday brunch at 11 am. The online reservation process was a breeze. Do plan extra time for parking as there is not a dedicated lot, yet street parking does exist. We got seated upstairs which I thought was so cool being in a historic building overlooking some of downtown. There were some awesome MN edgy art paintings upstairs as well. I adored the Hawaiian bowl and Pistachio Cardamom espresso drink. As an avid coffee fan, I appreciated the vast array of espresso options on the menu. It was very hard to choose one. The one downfall (and I won't even erase a star for this) is that my friend ended up bringing her son on a last minute whim and when she called to ask for an extra highchair, the staff were very strict that there was only room for 2 chairs. Street parking is hard to find, so plan ahead. When we got there, we were immediately greeted. It took about 10 minutes for our reserved table to be ready. I had a really lovely experience overall at this restaurant. The ambiance was warm and inviting--perfect for a relaxing solo breakfast. The food was delicious, and my waitress was truly wonderful shout-out to Katie: kind, attentive, and made me feel right at home. The only downside was the way I was greeted by the hostess. I arrived around 9:10 AM and was told I could sit at the counter or at a table but if I chose the table, she needed back by 10 AM. HER words not mine. It felt a bit off-putting, especially since I was dining alone and there was no crowd waiting. It gave the impression that solo diners aren't as welcome, which was disappointing. NOT to mention ironic for a restaurant that boast about genorisity and prayer even quoting Desmond Tutu. Needless to say obvious misalignment. That said, the great service from my waitress and the quality of the food made up for that moment. Always a good meal with good service at Hope Breakfast Bar. I love the building, especially upstairs where they have kept some of the firehouse history in the building. From an excellent coffee menu ,to always changing specials, this place does it all well. The Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs were very good. We also ordered some Pumpkin Pancakes from the special menu and they were fantastic. They looked like they were going to be overly sweet but not the case at all. Fluffy, full of flavor without killing it with sweetness. The coffee is always good here, I love a Caramel Latte and they do it well. Heads up that parking is street parking and it can be tough to find but it is worth the effort. read more

We were visiting from out of town and hit the jackpot when we stumbled upon this place. Our experience was wonderful from the moment we sat at our table. Our server, Tari, was excellent! She made wonderful suggestions, thoroughly answered our questions when we struggled to decide between the many delicious dishes, and always kept our glasses full. The food was divine. Two of our guests tried the chicken and biscuits, and it was the slightest bit of heat with the sweet, just as Tari had described, and they truly enjoyed it. One guest said that the hash browns were the best they've ever had. Tari could tell we were struggling to decide between the many sweet treat waffles and pancakes so she pointed out the baby cakes, which is a stack of three normal sized pancakes (roughly 6" around). The baby cakes allowed us to get the pumpkin spice pancakes that we shared amongst the table, these were delicious as well. At our server's suggestion I had the banana churro waffle and added an egg on the side for some protein. The waffle was a large portion and the favorite dish amongst the group, as we all ended up sharing it due to its size. One of the kids in our group ordered the granola bowl, minus the granola, but it came out with the granola, delivered by someone other than our server. We never had to say a word about the granola being added to the bowl because our server noticed right away and offered to correct the issue. With the many options we chose to try, combined with the large portions, we had many leftovers that we took home to enjoy again. The atmosphere is also very cool here. The building is an old firehouse and there are many nods to the history of the space, including the preserved fire pole and fire memorabilia on the walls, but it isn't totally fire focused as many other paintings and decor lines the walls for a very comfortable warm vibe. We sat upstairs, which is roughly 25 steps up, but wasn't too much for the 81 year old grandmother traveling with us. We only visited the downstairs while using the restroom, but just outside of the bathroom is a wall where you can leave anything you want prayed about (see pic). This was such a cool thing to find while waiting and such a nice surprise to our already great experience, majority of our party left their hopes and dreams to be prayed about. We highly recommend this place many times over, but recommend a reservation if you plan to come on the weekend. You won't be disappointed. read more

Took some family visiting here for brunch. There's not much free parking within the immediate vicinity, but there are some neighborhoods you could do street parking on. It is a smaller space, so definitely reserve in advance to decrease the wait time. Our favorite and must get for a group would be their giant pretzel with pickle spread. Even if you're not a huge pickle lover, the pretzel itself was so soft and warm. They give you plenty of the spread and we had to take the leftover spread home. read more

Fabulous!! We booked a reservation here for after Mass on Sunday and we were seated right away upon arrival. At 1:30 PM, they were in the middle of their brunch rush. We were seated at a table in front of their open kitchen and were impressed by the hustle of the kitchen staff. They were cranking out beautifully plated and delicious looking food. The menu is comfort food focused with an emphasis on decadence. I ordered the Everything bagel breakfast sandwich, which came with super crispy hashbrown potatoes. I also ordered a side of fruit and it was nothing but beautiful strawberries and blueberries. Elite! The sandwich has a generous amount of pimento cream cheese and it was absolutely fabulous. My mom ordered the German chocolate pancakes and while they were delicious, it was just way too much and way too sweet for her to finish. The others in our party ordered the chicken fried steak and the chicken and waffles. He loved the chicken fried steak breakfast plate, but the chicken and waffles fell a bit flat with my niece. She said it was bland. Cocktails were on point. Two of us ordered the coconut rum iced latte, and two ordered old fashioned's. 2 rounds! My friend likes their Stuffed Poblano because of the way they grill the cheese. I didn't love their White Mocha Matcha Latte - the flavor wasn't strong. I would definitely recommend having a reservation here otherwise you might be waiting a while, especially if you don't want to sit at the bar. After 10 minutes of servers ignoring us and passing by, we asked two different servers for help, immediately were given a table time limit, hurriedly received our food 5 minutes after we ordered, had our order clumsily dropped by the expos who turned and sprinted back inside, had the wrong breakfast delivered, then given a different table time limit, had the wrong breakfast replacement delivered, were ignored twice by the expo, and were reminded (and had to discuss) the time limit....8, more, times. Really. Nicole (server) tried to own it and smooth it over on the back end but the older people in our group were so appalled at how we were "handled." After working in twelve restaurants, starting 3, and dining in thousands more, I struggled to remember another dining experience where I felt so unwelcome. As we were leaving (well under our second given time limit), we acknowledged all the empty tables and wondered why reservations were used as an excuse to treat everyone (else) so poorly. Food is overhyped and overpriced. "Loaded" (and still somehow flavorless) hashbrowns included in the pics. If you absolutely must try Hope, make a reservation, and remain hopeful. read more

The food was great! I really enjoy this place, however it is super busy. My friend and I got different dishes. The meal I got was a pork belly and biscuit cover in gravy and hash brown. One of the two friend order waffle and chicken (basic) and my other friend order a bagel sandwich with hash brown. Both meal were delicious as well. The waffle and chicken was simple and the syrup went well with it. We got two of the drinks as well, one was a sparkling drink with rose and the other one was raspberry I believe. They both were delicious and refreshing. The ambiance feels like it is super quick and so many people enjoying and engaging with one another. It was a vibe. We celebrated a milestone birthday by visiting Hope Breakfast Bar in St Paul for Brunch. We scheduled a reservation a few days ahead of time and were seated promptly upon arrival. I started with the Iced Pistachio and Cardamom from the coffee bar. It was light and nutty. I had never paired the two flavors together before, and this made for a nice palate cleanser between bites of the meal. To eat, I went with the Fried Chicken and Waffles described as: boneless buttermilk-brined chicken, buttermilk or hemp heart waffle, and jalapeño maple syrup. I was excited to see the unique offering of jalapeño maple syrup. It provided the sweetness necessary as well as a strong jalapeño flavor which gave heat and balanced the dish overall. Without that, it was basically chicken tenders with a waffle. The food and service were both prompt. For reference, the drinks and entrees arrived at nearly the same time. Unfortunately, we were sat near a vent which dripped water on us throughout the meal. I felt the 1 hour limit for a brunch was a bit short. We were given our check and then reminded shortly thereafter to pay quickly because our time was coming to an end. When I asked about ingredients because of my allergies, her initial response was to tell me she knew all the allergens without checking and pushed back telling me she would not have to check.
