I love the atmosphere of this place. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. It was the only place on the island we heard had chicken fried steak so that was the reason for our visit. Unfortunately, it was super tough but the club sandwich we got was amazing and HUGE! I could only eat a quarter of it. The fries were delightful. Crispy and perfectly seasoned. The only thing I can say about Stingray's is WOW. This place has a "wow-factor" times 10. It is a sports bar that thinks its a high-end restaurant. If you're on the fence, do it, you won't be disappointed!! First things first, first impressions were very good. The parking was easy and close, the store-front was impressive, and the KCCO banner out front didn't hurt matters either. Chivers know a good time and this place has a good time waiting for everyone. We were seated quickly, and drinks were brought shortly after we sat down. The place wasn't that busy as it was about 3:00 pm. Looking around, we noticed the two fully functional Corvette Stingrays mounted above the bar, and then read about their origins in the menu. I won't spoil the story for everyone, just ask the owners if you see either one of them and they will be happy to tell you why they're there. Anyway, we ordered the bacon wrapped chicken bites as an app, and were BLOWN AWAY. These things are spectacular, highly, highly reccommend them. I got the Maker's Mark burger, and my wife ordered the steak sandwich. After going to as many restaurants as we have, we have gotten used to looking for signs that a kitchen is doing things right before we ever even order so we know what to expect. Stingray's is doing things the right way, by hand, from scratch, in small batches. Quality is of the utmost to this kitchen staff, and it shows. They use quality ingredients, and they don't cut corners. The result of this way of doing things is delicious food. My burger was nothing short of amazing. the patty was tender, and cooked to order(not something that most kitchens are actually capable of doing, even though the server will ask you how you want it cooked). I was most impressed by the fried onions though, they were thinly cut and fried to perfection which balanced the flavors on my burger perfectly. The Maker's Mark burger has a sweet and salty thing going which I found pretty stellar. My wife's steak sandwich was also nothing short of awesome. The steak was, again, actually cooked to order, and the other components of the sandwich were all either house made or freshly picked. It came with a house-made avacado ranch sauce that is pretty much heaven in a tiny, little cup. Both meals came with hand-cut fries that were done to perfection. We also ordered a small pepperoni pizza to go which was fired in their wood burning oven!! All around, great flavors, great service, and an awesome envirionment in which to eat. The last thing I'll say about this place is how impressed we were that one of the owners was going around and asking patrons how their meal was(if they ate) and if there was anything he could get them. To me, this says, "I care about my customers, and the food and drinks I provide." He was a super nice fellow, and even stopped to chat with me about his car above the bar. He asked us where we were from and about our stay in Port A. I could not have been happier to have stood there and talked 'Vettes with him all day, but my wife finally gave me the high sign and we left stuffed full of awesome food. Well, we just tried to have a Birthday dinner, something nice and causal. We have been there many times, and always try to recommend it to our guests staying at the Pioneer RV Resort. It was the most mismanaged mess. Ordered a burger med, came xout like a hockey puck. We sent it back, we never got another one, after waiting at least 25 min. Could not get another round of drinks, bartender, that was also the manager, had some kind of issues on her phone call, which I guess was more important than customers. Came to Stingrays after realizing the place we wanted to eat at wasn't open on a Sunday night. So glad that happened! Cool atmosphere with the two corvettes hanging from the ceiling and delicious bar food. We got the ribs and chicken tenders. Would get both again. We even joked that had we found this place earlier during our stay, we may have gone back multiple times. Service was really good too. They have a nice outdoor seating area that is dog friendly too. 3 day weekend, new to a Texas, everyone says Port A! So off we go, stayed next door as I had the little Pom with us. We hung out there Saturday night playing dominos with the teen drinking wine. Well I did, she had fresh mint in her water and DH his beer. So much fun!!! Then we strolled down to the beach. Sunday we rented the golf cart from Red they actually met us here. Lol the waitress suggested a mimosa with pineapple juice, Red said it was great!!! So after we drove all over town and down the beach and shopping at all the crap stores and candy store we went back to watch the playoff games. It got packed, only sports bar in town, but we found a spot, the games ended up so good we stayed the entire two games and met some great people from Texas. I never ate here but I'll be back and will surely do so. It's such a great concept with the big doors that roll as it use to be a auto garage, now it's so modern it's awesome. I thought it was named after the fish as we were at the beach, but there are real corvettes yes Stingrays inside up above the bar. The service was good, they were hustling to keep it quick. Only downfall are the bar stools, they look cool but the seat is so small in diameter I find myself squirming to get comfortable, and the bars under it are all crisscrosses in a way there is no place to put your feet!!! We asked over and over again how much longer it would be and were told 15-20 minutes longer every time. The staff was very rude and unhelpful. Consistently friendly with solid food. The burger is outstanding and the craft beer list is good. Would give them 5 stars if they expanded the craft beer list and also went with growlers but they probably made a business decision to wisely also support the light beer crowd that often makes the world go round in Port A. read more

We visited on Sunday 4/13/14, the last day of Sand Fest. We were there around noon, before most of the island was really awake from all of the Saturday fun. New restaurant to us, as frequent Port A visitors. We sat on the covered deck, nice square picnic-type tables that seat eight (7 in our group). Most had the Stingray burger and fries, side orders of O-rings, others the sliders, all good - very good judging by the empty plates. Beer selection is good as well. This establishment is a fun little sports bar with okay food. The blackened drum sandwich, which was highly recommended by several other Yelpers, was ordered by two people in our group. One thought it was super average -- 2.5 stars, and I thought it was just okay --3 stars or so. Fish was tender enough, just didn't blow us away in flavor. The Makers Mark sliders were pretty good. We had chili cheese fries which were great, buffalo chicken pizza and steak strips. The interior was casual and fun but didn't feel like a dive - very comfortable and casual. Great service. Overlooked venue in Port Aransas. This is a sportsbar with many TV's. We went during opening ceremonies of the Olympics and at 34 degrees outside (so why were we at Port Aransas, right?). They have Ahi Tuna Sliders and fresh cut and batter onion rings, both totally excellent. Great happy hour and local breweries beer on tap. Our waitress was excellent and we rewarded her accordingly. This is really a great atmosphere with great food and service, what more does one want. I have also been told they serve the best hamburger on the island. They have pool tables and live music on some occasions. read more

Had, hands down, the worst dining experience of my life here. The waitress took 45 minutes to come get our drink orders after we had been seated and we had to go to the bar multiple times to get refills. Then once we ordered it took 2 hours for our food to come out and most of the plates were cold. We complained to the owner Sean that we were not having a great dining experience (when our water glasses had been empty for over 30 minutes and our waitress was no where to be found) and he told us "ok" and then walked off. Never apologized once. He actually accused one of my friends of not wanting to pay for her meal when we told him that it was cold and inedible (fried oysters) and actually said "whatever" and turned and walked away. On top of all that we were charged extra for things like removing tomatoes from a sandwich ($2.00) and substituting mashed potatoes for fries (menu stated that was a free substitution) (4.00) and cheese on a burger (menu said burger came with cheese) ($2.00). The final straw was when we were leaving and told the owner Sean that we had a horrible dining experience and his response was "maybe it's not the service that was bad, maybe your just a bad customer" SAVE YOUR MONEY! We came here to watch the Preakness over the weekend. WOW!!!, so glad we did! We got a great seat in from of a TV w a great waiter. The manager Scotty turned the race on for us and we sat and watched the pre race with some outstanding cocktails. This dog friendly restaurant has great service. This is close enough to the beach where you could go relax and have a yummy meal after a long day or go grab a bite before heading to the waves. The covered front patio has benches and picnic tables with their own individual doggie water bowls. Upon being seated a waitress came up to ask for our drink order and refreshed the water bowl for our furry pup. After looking over the menu, my husband and I settled for the bacon wrapped chicken bites as an appetizer and the fried fish for entrees. The drinks came out quickly. When taking our order, our waitress asked if she could give our puppy a dog biscuit. The restaurant has round dog biscuits just for its furry guests. That was really cute and made us all feel welcome. The appetizer came out a few minutes later and wasn't impressive. The chicken, bacon, avocado dressing were a flavorful balance but were very tiny portions. The six small pieces of chicken cost $11. We weren't sure what to expect from the entree but once they were brought out, it was much better. The batter was crispy and not too thick. I loved the seasoned fries. Those were not too greasy, crisp on the outside, and soft on the inside. The tarter sauce had a different blend of spices that complimented both the fish and the fries. After the underwhelming appetizer, the entree made up for it in good portion, flavor, and cost. The restrooms were clean, the service fast and friendly, and the food great. When going back to Port A, we will definitely be stopping by again. read more

We tried Stingrays for lunch today.It was on recommendation from someone. We drove a long way to try it. When I drove up everything about the place seemed like it was going to be a cool experience. We sat ourselves after someone picked up on our look or confusion. We decided to sit at the bar in the shade. Here is where it went south. Our server/bartender walked by a couple of times before she said she would be there in a sec. No "Hi" , or greeting. There were only a few people in the dining area and none in the bar. She dropped our waters off, no coaster , bev nap, or eye contact for that matter. I asked if the chicken was grilled or fried on my bacon wrapped app, she replied fried. I guess I should've been more clear and asked if it was breaded? My lunch partner and I both picked up on her negative attitude right way. Judging from the reads of the previous reviews on Yelp, service is the real issue here at Stingrays. It is either out of this world or horrible. Our food came out looking great! It tasted great too. Two things to mention. First my pork sliders had like 5 slivers of slaw in them. I had to take off the bun to make sure it was there. When I asked for more, specifically a ramekin , she took forever to get back with something. She went to her other table, she exchanged numbers with another employee, discussed some work biz, serviced a walk up guest, and then brought me a ramekin of broccoli slaw. I said nothing at this point bewildered with the whole thing. I asked for my check to tab out and curious to see the charge for my ramekin of broc slaw I didn't want. I was obviously charged for a whole side of it. I told her I did not want the broc slaw, it was then I got a small scolding for what was my mistake when I ordered the slaw apparently. She took it off. Thanks for the trouble. No Thanks, No Goodbye, No smile or eye contact. FAIL,FAIL,FAIL. My final suggestion is you let folks know about the toothpicks in the chicken, they were so good I almost ate the toothpicks, twice! I wanted to give 4 stars but due to the service, you dropped to 2. Don't Go!!! Save yourself $30 a person a 4 hours to get HORRIBLE ... food - I would have rather had a gas station hot dog. The Owner, Shawn, was so RUDE to us - actually told a person in our group that she was a bad customer for going complaining politely that the 3 hour wait to get served was not working out for us. Out of 10 people only 2 had food that was edible. The food department needs to be notified about this place!!!! OH - and cheese on your slider will cost you $3 more and to take a tomato off us another $1.50. This place would be cool if the service wasn't so bad...we went here twice this past weekend and neither experience was that great. It's like this is a tourist town - these restaurants should be service pros! But no.... First time was on Saturday around 11pm, me and a friend went in for a shot. I asked for a pineapple upside down shot and the girl behind the bar laughed at me and asked "are you serious?" I said yes, why is that funny? "Oh, just because I don't drink that fruity crap" Oh, ok, so what do you drink? "Straight tequila!" Hmm...I would puke all over your bar if I did that, is there another "girly" shot you suggest? So, she proceeds to make me a chocolate cake shot that you take with a lemon....I powered through it but am still upset she made fun of me for wanting a pineapple upside down shot...Oh, and she then proceeded to brag about how she loves tequila because she is half Mexican but you can't tell...yada yada. It was an awkward experience and she seemed a little immature to be behind the bar. On Sunday we went for lunch before leaving Port A. The had the Mexico game showing on all the TV's and that was awesome - I should mention this place is a great sports bar - TV's at all angles, a really cool decor, two corvettes hoisted about the bar...the owners invested some money into this place for sure. Howeverrrr, we had this cute little guy waiting on us and he was awkward, his service was a little slow, and he just didn't have the personality I'd expect at a place like this. I really wanted a Bloody Mary to start off with, but $8.75 for the well was ridiculously expensive so I opted out. We got chips and salsa as an appetizer and there were probably 18 chips on the plate - for four people and at $4.95 the serving size was horrible. For our meal I ordered a caeser salad (ended up sending it back because the lettuce was warm and the dressing was, well nasty.) I ordered mashed potatoes and was informed they wouldn't be ready so had to switch to french fries instead. I did get the 1lb of peel and eat shrimp and it was WORTH IT! Enough for me and boyfriend to both get full off of and they were really fresh and tasty. Friend ordered Makers Mark Burger and loved it. The kids pizza was a good portion. Also, there was an obnoxious dog that would not. stop. barking. and management did nothing about it. That alone was enough to make me leave, but we sat through it -_- Overall - if I'm in Port A when there is an important game going on, I'll go back here for the TV's and atmosphere. If not, I'll prefer to find somewhere else that has better service. read more
