This is the second time I've visited STIR in Raleigh, NC. My expectations were definitely exceeded with this second visit. First, I appreciate our server named Five. He was exceptionally astounding for my partner's birthday. Amazing attitude, great presentations and spontaneity with our drinks, great communication, inviting & welcoming on our second visit. This restaurant is really big and beautiful, and has nice outdoor seating as well. It's in the North Hills area so it's around a lot of different things and buzzing with people, surprisingly even during this pandemic. The atmosphere is great! If this is how it is during corona I can't wait to come back after. Since they can't do a breakfast buffet currently, they brought out sample plates from the buffet. The deviled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and dessert platter were super delicious. We liked the deviled eggs so much our server brought us more! These were free of charge with our meals which was super nice. The waffle from my chicken and waffles was sooo good and melted in my mouth with the butter. I don't like waffles that much but loved that these were not thick so they had more flavor. The chicken was great too!! My friend loved her omelette plate a lot as well. Don't forget to get mimosas for only a dollar as well! I would say the only downside was that they don't have turkey substitutes and only have pork bacon/sausage for all you non-pork eaters like my friend and I. The $1 mimosas are a great draw for brunch. Seriously, $1. Can't really beat that and if my review was only about those and the service this would have been a 4 star review instead of the 2.5 star I feel it is. Btw, the agua fresca strawberry basil ($2) mimosa did not appeal to me nor one of my friends. They actually said it tasted more like tomato than strawberry. However, I also had 2 of the regular $1 mimosas with Pineapple Juice and they were great. The brunch menu is severely limited. I ended up going with the waffle crusted chicken. The flavor was a bit muted but it was there. I believe some salt would have really enhanced the taste of the dish. Also, I didn't taste crusted waffle on the chicken. They tasted like chicken tenders drizzled with a light tasting syrup. The brunch bar that comes with the entree really isn't worth mentioning. However, if you must go up there, the blueberry muffins were good. The ambiance is really nice and again, $1 mimosas are appealing. But I think I'd rather pay a bit more per mimosa and have some tasty food to go along with it. Therefore, I doubt I'll be returning to Stir for brunch. read more

For a business trip to the Raleigh/Durham, NC area, we reserved a private room at STIR to accommodate 15 people. The full menu was open to us, and there was a $100 per person minimum. That sounded fine, but when the menu entrees were between $20 and $30 each, that means a lot of appetizers, and a lot of drinks. I already had a word with our administrative coordinator about that. Any way..... For appetizers, the Cerviche Sampler was a big hit at the table as multiple orders filled the room. Additionally, salmon cakes, spicy chicken samosas, white truffle fries, fish tacos and fried green tomatoes were enjoyed. I didn't hear a single complaint and nothing but compliments about the food and the service. Entrees were all over the board, but the most popular was the Crispy Mahi Bowl. Seared scallops, Chicken Picatta, Roasted Vegetables & Farro, Chilled Chicken Caprese, Grilled Salmon, Center cut Filet, and Sesame Shoyu Bowl filled out the rest of the table. Even one plant based burger was ordered with fries that several people tried after cutting it up. Again, mostly very positive reviews for the food being delicious and served hot (when it was supposed to be hot). Since we were well under spent on the minimums, several bottles of wine wrapped to go made up the difference after chocolate espresso flourless cake and matcha green tea cheesecake were served to most in our party. The food was good, but I almost wish we just had them push tables together for a party of 15 vs. asking for a private room as we would have saved hundred, literally hundreds of dollars doing so. Hosted a team event for Christmas here this evening and reserved one of their private dining areas. We had a limited menu based on the group but still had several options. I will say that the crab bisque was excellent and people seemed to really enjoy the Caesar wedge. I chose the filet entry ordered medium rare over sautéed veggies. It was cooked a shade closer to medium and it wasn't the best cut of meat of I've had before but I enjoyed it. For dessert we had the chocolate cake which was really good. The star was definitely the soup though so make sure you give it a try and ask for extra crostinis to dip into it. The servers did a great job and kept our drinks full and our food hot! When my husband asked how a particular gin was, the bartender replied it's a good gin. What does that mean? Is it juniper forward, is it floral, piney, etc. not the best recommendation. I can live with that but we had to ask for EVERYTHING. Silverware, plates, another glass of wine. We had great service the last time we stopped by for a drink so we decided to come back and have dinner. Even the food runners didn't care that they dropped off food and we didn't have silverware or plates. General response was that the bartenders (who were ignoring us) would get us what we needed. Before starting I will advise that if you're going to go fro brunch then do not book after 2pm and book an hour earlier than you would want because you will be waiting even with reservations. On the second time I booked I chose a 3pm reservation but we were on hold for seating due to the kitchen changing from the brunch menu to dinner menu plus a large party, who were already seated, grew and stayed longer than expected. Unfortunately, the host was a bit rude to us even telling us "let's go!" When our seats were ready HOWEVER the manager John and our server Josiah were very apologetic and pleasant. So for brunch: I had the strawberry mimosas and the Agua frescas both good and I'm happy they have alternative juices for the mimosas. They have various popular brunch selections but I chose the shrimp and grits with a side of bacon. Very delicious and a good portion size as well; I couldn't finish the whole thing. For dinner: (Do no look for brunch items on the dinner menu including the mimosas.) Although I was taken aback by the wait time and the attitude of the short-haired, blonde hostess, I was eagerly ready to try their dinner menu. For the appetizers I enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and broiled oysters. The fried green tomatoes have a modern spin on the southern classic with fresh herbs, feta cheese atop the pimento cheese. Not pictured is my entrees I ordered the shrimp and scallop Mac and cheese and my guest order the steak frites. Unfortunately I sent the Mac and cheese back... it lacked seasoning and the cheese was far too dense. I sampled the steak frites and they were delicious... I ordered the fried oysters in replacing the Mac and cheese. They fried oysters itself was fresh and hot however the bacon underneath was entirely too salty and the decorative rock salt under the oysters didn't help when they bacon filling overflowed onto the plate. They had a huge bar area, nice outdoor patio, and plenty of indoor seating. Stir is causing quite a stir in town as the new restaurant at North Hills (in the Bank of America Building with Capital Grille, and across from the AC hotel & Co). Note: Plenty of deck parking. Also Valet parking available, but really, how hard is it to park in the deck, push an elevator button and there you are? We decided to check it out on this recent Sunday after our nearby massages. (Date weekend, just sayin') It was near 2:00. We found out they serve brunch only until 2:30. So this review is for brunch. Big Likes: 1)The atmosphere...indoors, outdoors, it's all a relaxed yet energetic vibe. Bar seating, booths, tables, high tops...variety! We chose to sit inside, but were seated near the patio with doors wide open. Very comfortable. Had to bat off a few flies, no big deal. 2) Erica, our Server. Loved her! Delightful, hard-working. Even took off a few bucks when I mentioned a couple deficiencies in my meal. 3) DRINKS. Husband was impressed with his Old-Fashioned, which was by no means watered down like some places do. Brunch means cheap mimosas...$1 for a single, $2 for a double if you get a regular one. They also offer agua fresca ones such as strawberry basil or cucumber lemon for $2 for a single or $4 for a double. I tried a double of the cucumber one and it was light and refreshing. A single of the strawberry was good, but I never tasted basil. I will say you would have to drink a lot of these to catch a buzz though. Loved that Erica brought me ice for my water when I requested it. Now let's talk food. Brunch comes with a brunch bar. What does that mean? It means a high top table set with deviled eggs, potato salad, cucumber salad, plain pasta salad, small pieces of Belgian waffles, tiny (dry) muffins, cookies, brownies, and fresh fruit. If you dine on the late side, do note they take everything up at exactly 2:30. Husband watched his coveted brownies get carried away as we waited for entrees to appear. Guessing though that he didn't miss anything as honestly this wasn't impressive. Entrees: Husband got the Breakfast Burger minus the egg, and I ordered the Breakfast Chicken Picatta. They took awhile to arrive, and looked good when they did. Husband's assessment of his burger was that the top bun was super dry and the bottom one was super wet. Disintegrated. He ended up taking the top off and eating the rest with a fork. Loved the fries. My meal arrived with fries as well, even though the menu said breakfast potatoes. Chicken was very good. But honestly, chicken picatta doesn't go well with eggs or fries. The eggs were perfectly cooked. Tasty on their own. I went to STIR's opening and really enjoyed it, when my husband and I were looking for a Sunday night date night dinner I suggested STIR! We only live about a mile from North Hill's so I'm always happy to have new non-chain options open within the plaza. I love the interior design of the place. The interior is open and airy and their bar area is beautiful!!! The perfect spot to grab a drink on a date or with friends. I'm obsessed with ice, my husband always makes fun of me about it, this place is an ice lover's dream. They have like six different types of ice you can chose from for your drink. They literally hand carve the ice from an ice block in the back. Ask for an ice show, you'll be impressed!! As far as food goes I tried out the BLT w/ egg on my first visit and it was good, but the fries really sole the show of that plate. Perfectly crisp and seasoned so well. For dinner I got the filet and shrimp ravioli. Man oh man, I'll have a hard time ordering anything else when I go in for dinner. It was amazing! My steak was a bit overcooked, but it was still melt in your mouth tender. So many times when you get steak out it is bland, not here, they season everything super well. The handmade ravioli was delicious and even the roasted carrots on the dish were great. It's one of the most expensive things on the menu at $30, but its freaking good. We ended up taking home some banana cheesecake for dessert and it was just okay. Definitely left something to be desired. Wouldn't go for dessert again.
