I haven't had Kosher food in awhile so I decided to check this spot out. Plus the cuisine is Uzbek so that's very unique. I've had one or the other but never both Kosher & Uzbek together. After looking at pictures and reviews, I wanted to check it out since it was in the area that I was visiting. The menu had so many things on it. It was hard to pick and choose. Decided on the Uzbek Mantu which were dumplings. The Asian Pilaf was suggested but it was a bit flavorless, I needed some spice added to it. Had stix salad and half a serving of Lagman, which was soup. All the portions were fairly huge. The Lagman tasted like minestrone soup. The salad was very vinegary. The atmosphere of the place was great. It was very lively on a Sunday afternoon around lunch time. People were singing and such.
Great value and service was decent. We waited a little bit before they gave us the lunch special menu after that it was smooth and service was on point. The food tasted fresh and was well prepared and seasoned. Though the regular menu in my opinion is much better than the lunch menu. Ambiance is stylish dinner type of spot and I'm frequently impressed with the turn around time of the food orders. I often get the veal liver and their beef special cut is amazing as is their lamb ribs kebab.
I met a friend here for dinner. I've wanted to try this place for a while now. Inside is moderately sized. There was a 20 person party reserved that night but still plenty of room for other patrons. The waitress was helpful and attentive. We wanted to try a lot of things so we got the green tea in kettle, Stix salad, borscht, babaganush, noni toki (matzo bread), lamb ribs skewers, veal liver skewer, and branzino (whole fish). The green tea was served in a beautiful kettle and large shallow teacups. The Stix salad had pickled vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, and others. It was a little sour and refreshing. The borscht was hot with lots of cabbage and a few pieces of meat. The babaganush tasted smoky and sweet ( another place I went to was smokier). It went well with the noni toki. The lamb skewers were not game. There wasn't a lot of meat on those bones. The veal liver was soft and tender with some chewy parts. The fish was grilled until it was crispy. There were some bones you had to be careful of. The skin had some scales which made it hard to eat. Overall it was a good meal. I can't wait to come back.
I came here with my family for lunch yesterday. Love that you can bring your own bottle here definitely will be coming for my birthday next month in December. We got so much food ended up taking leftovers. I didn't get the photos of everything we ordered but it was absolutely delicious highly recommend coming here if your in the area
Did a pickup order; the takeout experience is meh. The moment you walk in and aren't sitting down, they kinda disregard you. Food- I Ordered a lamb pilaf- really tasty, but overly oily and heavy. Good amount of lamb meat. The Mushroom chebureki was delicious, followed by the potato chebureki. The tangy sauce that came with it yummy too.
Best Babganoush!!! I've gone to STIX plenty of times and ALWAYS order their Babganoush. Nobody makes it better. It has a delicious smokiness to it that can't be beat. Order their Tandoori Bread to go along with it. Besides their Babganoush, order any of their Kebabs. You can't go wrong. We've tried a variety of Kebabs, and they were all delicious; served on skewers, with rings of raw onions. Tasty and fabulous; especially their lamb and lamb rib Kebabs. STIX has a pretty extensive menu, so there are plenty of other items to try besides their Kebabs. We've tried a variety of soups, salads, dumplings, hot appetizers, etc, and everything has always been great. They even have $12.95 lunch specials! Customer service can be hit or miss. Sometimes they're great, but sometimes they seem understaffed and/or have inexperienced servers. But their food is consistently great, so GO!!!
I've been to this long running Bukharian/Uzbek Jewish place a few times commonly with large groups and this space is plenty large to accommodate them. The prices here are reasonable and the food here is pretty good but I prefer some other spots but most of the spots I prefer happened to be in Brooklyn and I think this partial comes down to preferring the Azeri Jewish versions of dishes (as well as the standard Uzbek versions.) The service is fine here and it's casual so don't expect the best but they are pretty friendly. The Babaganush/Babaghanoush is pretty solid. Nicely smokey but there are better ones. Same applies to the okay hummus. The tandoori bread aka Obi Non/Noni Toki is a thick bread and goes well with the dips or you can have it with the meats of course. The samsa we had one time was fine. The Asian Pilaf or Plov is alright here. One time, the meat was tender but the rice was bland and the other time, the meat wasn't and the rice was still bland. I heavily prefer the plov at several other places and I think some of this comes to inconsistency or them premaking things and sometimes stuff just doesn't taste as good heated up. You go here for their shashlik/shashlyk or in short kebabs. They are either served on a platter or you can order individual sticks and they come out on the very hot metal they were cooked on. Their Lola Kebab; or I find more frequently spelled lula/lulya in other spots depending on which Central Asian country it is; is my favorite of their selection and a very good version. The meat, in this case a mixture of lamb and beef, was tender and well flavored. The Lamb Kebab was good though perhaps a bit chewy. One time we had the Veal Liver Kebab and it was solid but the most recent time I was there, I found it a bit underdone which made it not that appetizing with an unpleasant texture. Surprisingly good was the Salmon Kebab. Usually I find salmon in many of these type of spots to be dry but this was moist and excellent and easily the second best of all the kebabs. While I definitely prefer some other Central Asian spots, the food here is pretty good. It's hard to go wrong with the price point but as said stick to the kebabs. The kebabs get around an upper 3/low 4, the appetizer gets a low 3, and the plov gets a low 3/upper 2. Mid 3 rounded up for the price point.
Platters come with rice or fries and a couple of kebabs. Asian pilaf is a shareable plate with tender lamb stew so we now prefer to order different kebabs to eat with it - Lamb, Lula (ground lamb and beef), Salmon, veal liver. Lamb rib kebab is not as meaty. Prefer the fried over steamed mantu/dumplings, similar fillings. Lunch specials are $12.95 with rice, soup- broth with some potatoes and carrots, soda and a choice from 3 kebabs. Both sweet for me so a small bite was enough of the desserts - liked the lavs with pistachio than the baklava. From the outside, thought it was a small place, like the others nearby but surprised by the large dining area. Great service.
Upon our arrival, we were seated smack-dab in the middle of the well-lit and busy restaurant. Our waitress was nice and attentive. This restaurant specializes in cuisine from Uzbekistan and is Glatt Kosher. From my knowledge of Uzbeki food, I know it is a beautiful blend of Persian and Eastern influences. My friend asked the waitress for some starter recommendations and she suggested "Cheburek". I have had these before at Marani (Georgian cuisine) and I was not a fan. These, too, failed to impress. The dough and fry were beautiful but beef lacked seasoning, specifically ginger-garlic. But we did not let this bland beef deter us, as the complimentary break was delicious, fresh and hot. We ordered baba ganoush and it was so good. So good that I ordered another plate of it to go but sadly, they ran out! The hummus was mediocre, nothing to write home about. For our entrees, we ordered some platters with skewered boneless chicken with rice and pickled cabbage and onions. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The rice was very good, as were the pickled vegetables. Everything was well-seasoned, although I could have gone for more spice. Prices are on the higher end but I would give this place another opportunity. Plus, I do want to try the borscht.
Why do I live NY you ask? It's because here you get a chance to befriend people from all walks of life. Today I met up with my favorite girlfriend from Ukraine for lunch. She suggested this restaurant and I was sincerely impressed. We started with hummus, bread and salad. Out comes this still warm from the oven bread. Immediately I'm happy. I was hungry but this hummus was excellent. I could've mad a meal out it by itself. However the salad was refreshingly crisp with crunch cucumbers and tasty julienne carrots and tomatoes. Also so good. My entree was salmon while she had lamb and chicken kabobs. Grilled just enough for the skin to be crispy yet the salmon was still moist. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Her pieces of meat were nice big chunks that she could barely finish. I learned not to underestimate kosher dining. This place knows how to use seasoning accordingly. Come here and you too will leave pleasantly surprised as well.
Mehhhhhh. Stix is okay. Not the best, not the worst. I can point you to other better kosher Uzbek/Bukharian spots in Rego Park. I came for a large family dinner so I got to try a lot of dishes. Stick to the meats, skip the rest. The lamb and liver were my favorite. Plov was awful. The fries are standard, as are the hummus, carrot salad, Israeli salad, and babaganouj appetizers. I did not like the samsa. The bread was super fresh and good. Service was sloppy, but that's expected at these places. Also you can BYO-alcohol. Skip the compot, it's watered down.
Adorable quiet family restaurant. It was very obvious that this restaurant was popular with families and their regulars. As others have noted, service is slow. Food comes out very fast, but it's nearly impossible to flag down staff. They are polite but hard to reach. Food is delicious though. Quality of the food makes up for the mediocre service. Lagman was hearty, mantu was perfect, soufflé was lovely. My favorite was the tea. The design on the teapot was just stunning. The restaurant is quiet and chill enough to hang out with friends for a relaxed meal. I liked this spot and look forward to visiting again.
Stix Kosher Restaurant had some really fantastic food and is definitely worthy of visiting. I went here on a work dinner and everything was great, whether it's the kebabs, samsa or anything else. Definitely try the kompot as well! Overall, I am happy I got to try this place and hope to venture back soon.
I was very impressed with this restaurant. The ambience was nice and the food was good. We got a variety of things to try: lamb shish kebabs, beef shish kebabs, salmon shish kebabs, boneless chicken thighs shish kebabs, and quail. The beef shish kebab was my absolute favorite. It was cooked to perfection and incredibly juicy. I though the chicken shish kebab was seasoned to perfection. I was not a huge fan of the quail as the sauce was very sour. We also got a fresh salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, and onion. The bread was hot and delicious. It was perfect to dip into the babaganoush, which was very impressive! You could really taste the garlic. We also got lagman noodle soup and some very flavorful borscht. The carrot salad was yummy. Lastly, we got spinach kutabi, which was nice and crispy and the spinach inside was seasoned very well. Overall, we were very satisfied with our meal. read more

I ate at Stix yesterday - I travel to NY often and I've heard things. If you're reading this and you're a little curious, then let me assure you - the rumors are true: The food is incredible. Honestly, I don't know where to begin. We were served a 4 course meal where each dish was outstanding. Soup, salad, kebabs and dessert - every one of which exceeded our expectations. You'll immediately notice that the owner spares no expense when it comes to the quality of what he serves. Everything is fresh and made to order - every morsel of meat juicy and delicious - cooked to absolute perfection. In addition to this, the service was excellent. We were quickly greeted and seated with a warm smile and the servers genuinely wanted us to feel satisfied. Bravo to Stix - my hat's off to you. read more

This kosher restaurant specializes in Uzbek food. It is large space and was filled with many families on a Sunday night. I came here with a friend and tried several things off the menu: -Mantu (Steamed and Fried): This item is kind of a rip off. It is listed as $1.50 on the menu and we tried both the steamed and fried version. It turns out the low price is because you only get one dumpling! The dumpling tasted pretty good though, but it is not much different than Chinese dumplings. Also, the fried one was much tastier than the steamed one. -Samsa: A small triangular puff pastry like appetizer filled with meat. Similar to an Indian samosa, but their version is flakier. It was not bad. -Shurpa - This traditional Uzbek soup is actually very basic. It is a vegetable soup filled with carrots, tomatoes and peppers and a few pieces of lamb in it. It was okay but didn't wow me. -Kebabs - Supposedly the kebabs are one of the specialties at Stix. We went for three different ones - lamb, beef, and boneless chicken. All the kebabs were very tender and had been nicely seasoned. The best of the three for me was the lamb kebab. I found it noticeably softer than the beef kebab. The kebabs here are definitely worth a try. -Pilaf - This was easily the best thing on the menu. It is a rice dish filled with onions, carrots, and chick peas. Apparently this dish is prepared by simmering and steaming, which explains why the rice is so soft and fluffy. The pilaf also has these extremely soft and juicy chunks of beef and lamb. The meat was just falling off the bones. This was by far the best thing from this restaurant! read more

Considering all the other bukharian restaurants around here that serve the same exact food; AVOID this place!!! I came here during lunch time when they weren't busy. The fries came out grey!!! Obviously it's a sign that they fry them in cold oil. The meat was raw, not fully cooked. The manti were brought out cold. We told the staff and they did absolutely nothing to fix the problem. Our waitress took our shish Kebobs right off the table to "throw it back on the grill" Obviously the meat came out rough. I just don't understand how an establishment can serve food that doesn't meet its standards. To say the food was disgusting is an understatement. This place really fell off over the years and I will not be coming back. read more

Ok so I walked in that restaurant around 4 PM. Was empty The salad is basic which is fine. The soup definitely sucked so bad. And had no meat in it which is suppose to have. The grilled meat was yummy. Service is meh ok Nothing special. You should try it. read more

This is our first time ordering from here and the food was delicious (delivery). The Asian Pilaf was so flavorful and a highlight. A friend who is Uzbeki introduced us to the rice from the region which is addictive. At Stix the rice, cooked with carrots/chick peas, is fantastic and the meat was so tender that we wished we ordered more. The Pargiot Boneless Chicken with rice and onion was tender and delicious as well. We also ordered the Cheburek which was very flavorful but does not travel well because it gets very soggy in a closed container. Maybe choose a different container with vents to deliver? Dining in it would have been crispy and tasty. The Stix Salad with a vinegar type of dressing is a great accompaniment to the meat dishes and rice. Overall we would definitely order again and try other dishes. Really tasty and filling food! read more

Stix is a palate pleasing restaurant located in the heart of queens , in my neighborhood of Rego Park. I have been here numerous times for a date or w a crowd of people. It can accommodate a large group of ppl. Just RSVP first. Notable foods: chicken kabobs Lagman soup Skirt steak kabaob Liver kabaob And basically everything else u want to try.. Occasion: casual lunch to go Order: Lagman Noodle Soup Asian Pilaf Fried Uzbek Mantu (1) Boneless Chicken Kebab (1) Price: ~$20 This is the first time for me having Uzbek food! And let me tell you that I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. I can definitely see its fusion elements from neighboring cultures - Mantu (Chinese dumplings), Lagman (Chinese La Mian/pulled noodle), Kebab (Arabic kebabs), pilaf (Middle East/India). But Uzbek food did a nice job pulling all the elements together and creating something that is unique to itself and most importantly delicious!!! Lagman was very good! Comparing to its Chinese equivalent, Lagman has richer broth with assortment of vegetables - celery, tomato, cilantro, potato, green onions - along with beef cubes, udon-like noodles, and a hint of cumin, all very well stewed to melting-in-your-mouth degree Asian Pilaf: everything in this dish was simmered to perfection. The rice absorbed the meat juice from the lamb and beef, and was seasoned with middle eastern spices, carrots, green onions. It was so so good. And the portion (and meat) was very generous! My only suggestion is to season the lamb and beef too. Right now they are just plain. (Just my own preference tho) Fried Uzbek Mantu: 1 order gives you a giant Mantu/dumpling. I like the fried version because it gives extra crunchiness to the texture and compliments the soft lamb filling. Unlike the Chinese dumplings, Mantu doesn't seal the filing instead leaving a big hole on top. I think they are steamed instead of boiled like the Chinese dumplings. Boneless Chicken Kebab: Like all other good kebabs, it's juicy, flavorful, and chewy! Very good! With such a good dining experience, I'll come back and try other items on the menu! read more

Excellent food and good service. Russian cuisine at its finest. Only reason for 4 stars is due to the place looking really outdated. We had lamb chops, dumplings, soup and yellow rice. This place is BYOB as well. Food was so good we ate most of it before i had time to take a picture ;) read more
