We stopped and had a wonderful breakfast. The Swedish pancakes were excellent. Topping them with lingonberry syrup was even better! The lingonberry iced tea was excellent too. The bathroom I can only describe as adorbs! I don't think I've ever seen a restroom quite like it. The store offers items such as Swedish candy, lingonberry coffee, tumblers, coffee cups, tins of cookies, magnets, cards, and more. I'd definitely stop by again when I'm in the area. read more

From the moment the hostess sat up, we had a feeling this visit wasn't going to be very good. The hostess was quite rude and sat us at a table for 4 when we told her we were 4 adults and a high chair. When we reminded her we need a space for the high chair, she just walked away and came back and awkwardly placed a high chair at the corner of the table. We knew this was not going to work. We ended up switching to a booth instead. The booth had a greatly sunken seat, but it already seemed like the staff were all kind of pissy so we didn't want to ask to move again. We had to request a children's menu 3 times. For some reason they only gave us 3 menus and 3 coffees even though we were clearly 4 adults. I ordered the short stack of Swedish pancakes. The pancakes tasted on the doughy side. After trying the Swedish pancakes at Jessica's in Roscoe, I know how good they can be. Unfortunately, the ones at Stockholm Inn pale in comparison. My family was in town from Florida (Rockford natives) were excited to come back here to eat, however, I'm not sure they will be so eager to come back. The fruit tasted weird, the coffee in the carafe was luke warm and the Swedish pancakes tasted undercooked. However, it's the staff that made the visit unpleasant. We had a friend point out this place after he found it online and were looking forward to out next visit to Rockford to give it a try. It lived up to our hopes! I am not experienced with Swedish food beyond the meatballs from Ikea, but this was much better. Swedish meatballs were a highlight with soft texture and excellent flavor and a light gravy. The swiss steak was delicious. I am ussd to Polish cabbage rolls but the Swedish ones are a wonderful variation cooked with brown sugar. Also dinners came with Cardamom rolls and I never want a cinnamon roll again. Our server was very nice and helpful. Food was a little slow but we also delayed ordering a couple times. It was so worth the wait though. I think maybe they are having a little trouble getting good help, but our experience was good. Also the building was fun looking. The colors and style are a real change from what we see in our neighborhood. We really qish this wasn't an hour drive from our house. Will definitely be back. read more

I won't be going back. Quality of food and service has diminished greatly over the past 20 years. Restaurant is starting to look tired and dirty. Went here for dinner on Friday night. Waited 45 min for someone to take our order. Had to call waitress over. Had questions about menu. Asked about veggies of the day. Was told broccoli or green beans (noticed on board as we were leaving that special veggie of day was scalloped corn). After 25 min, our potato skins (not really potato skins-potato wedges) were brought to the table by a bus person. We expected our waitress to bring food so we could order. After another 15 min, and no waitress, we called over a young woman who said she was the floor supervisor. She took our order. I ordered the fisherman's platter (was not given choice of baked or fried), Cole slaw and seafood chowder soup. Our food came about 20 min later. I was distracted by how mushy and greasy the batter was on the fish (it was mostly batter with very little fish), over fried and hard hush puppies and fried shrimp, which was ok. I called the supervisor over to show her the fish. She didn't seem overly concerned about the quality of food. She asked if I wanted baked fish. I said that I didn't realize there was a choice. She said, yes, you can have either (she was the one who took my order but didn't share this info). I then realized I didn't get my Cole slaw or chowder. When she returned with baked fish (which was overcooked and terribly dry), I shared that I hadn't received my side of Cole slaw or the chowder. She shrugged her shoulders and said, you ordered soup? She was the one who took my order. I asked her to take the food away and take it off of my bill as I didn't eat it. On a high note, the coconut cream pie was delicious. They were limited with pie choices though, as I had originally asked for a slice of vanilla pecan pie. read more

I took my elderly mother here as a birthday treat. It was our first time, and it was meaningful because she is Swedish. We loved the Swedish decor and the wonderfully friendly staff! We especially liked the Swedish pancakes with lingonberries - delicious! The bathrooms were spotless and also incredibly adorable. Even if you don't need to use the facilities when you're there, I recommend checking them out just to see the beautiful mural and attention to all of the detail, including Swedish design on the child's step-stool. I was pleasantly surprised by the gift shop, where I found many wonderful things (too many!) to buy. I'm so glad there was Cardamom Sweet Rolls - they are wonderful! I was super excited to try The Stockholm Inn when I first heard about it and I finally got the opportunity! The awards they have received had me going in ready to be blown away. Unfortunately, however, it didn't live up to the hype for me. The service was prompt (although not the friendliest) and the dining room was somewhat comforting, but the food was dated and lackluster. I wouldn't set it too far apart from the culinary experiences that you can get at American breakfast houses like Denny's, which frankly was just a huge disappointment given the sell here. The Stockholm Inn is an old fashioned family type restaurant with generous portions and genial servers. My wife had the potato pancakes, which are more pancake than potato, to be sure. I had Swedish meatballs, which although not highly seasoned, had Gravy. There was also a corn streusel side dish thing which went mostly uneaten (we were curious). Only problem was that the diner behind me was watching video on her speakerphone most of the meal, which is incredibly obnoxious but sadly not uncommon these days. Used to be my favorite place for breakfast or lunch. very nice atmosphere, confortable seating. unfortunately, the food and service has degraded significantly. I stopped in for breakfast yesterday after a 2 year hiatus. The place was nearly empty with fewer than 5 tables with customers. Ordered cinnamon french toast with a side of bacon and coffee. Food arrived 20 minutes later, and the bacon was refrigerator cold. waitress never returned to check on things and never brought the bill. I finally stood at the cashier stand for 15 minutes and flagged her down for the bill. Told her about the bacon, and she said to just tell the cashier to delete it. Will be several years before I visit again, if ever. Sad to see a gormer great place dive to the bottom with no regrets. read more

A Rockford staple if there ever was one. I've been coming here my whole life and would highly recommend for one of the best Scandinavian food experiences out there. First of all, they keep it clean and the atmosphere is fun and very Swedish/Scandinavian. I'm half Swedish and I love it. They have lots of seating available, for everything from just going out to breakfast with your significant other, to hosting a business meeting for many people. The food is so good. Swedish pancakes are obviously the meal of choice here (they even offer a gluten free variety if that's more your speed) and what they're most known for, but there are so many other choices for any palate here, even burgers. The Kroppkakor is another favorite of mine and one you may not have heard of before. It's a Swedish meal that's essentially a potato ball with meat inside of it. It might sound weird but I dare you to try it, it's so good and different. Add lingonberries for a very authentic experience. Pro tip: their orange juice is homemade & freshly-squeezed. You can see the juice machine they use in the back of the restaurant. Highly recommend this place and always look forward to coming here! read more

Food is great. Service is always very excellent when I go. Everyone is very friendly from when you walk in and are seated. Usually a person brings water and they are always nice. Then you are asked by the waitress or waiter if you want something else to drink besides water which of course someone might. But honestly I am never really to order when the waitress asks. But they are pleasant and come back. I don't believe I have ever had a bad experience with anything there. I just went there for the Thanksgiving buffet and WOW it was amazing. read more

You know how when you get an omelette at some places and they throw some of those precooked bacon bits into two eggs and call it a day? Not this place. They also have a buffet for $13, which I enjoy when I'm feeling glutinous. Pro tip: get American fries instead of hash browns for your side. The Stockholm Inn was an okay spot for breakfast this morning. I cannot complain about the food except their biscuits are a little expensive but you can tell they're frozen store bought biscuits. The service is fine however, I wish someone would've come by to check on my table more often. There is one thing that made me give 3 stars and it's the bathrooms. The women's bathroom is nicely decorated and very neat, while the men's bathroom is simply a bathroom. The women's bathroom is like Disney World and it's much nicer.
