Stone Mountain is beautiful, it's awesome to go up top and see the views. We did the Christmas pass and the festivities were neat and my kid enjoyed much of it. The golf was fun, and the fireworks were wonderful. My kid loved the snow angel. The lighted trees were beautiful and the outdoor dino exhibit was decent. We did the Train ride, the organization and communication here were horrendous. We waited for 2 trains even though we were on the boarding platform and we had to ask what was going on. There were no departure times listed either. They let empty cabins go on without letting ppl on bc they didn't purchase a VIP pass. Obviously I understand the pass gets VIP treatment but if the train is empty with 50 people waiting, it makes sense to let people board rather than let the train cars go empty. We tried to board the sky ride at 5:15 and it was closed. Our pass advertised the activities were doable from 2-9 and had no idea the sky ride closed at 5:00. That could also be our fault but a disclaimer or small print would have been nice. 4-D theater was fine. Was a Little wonky and not too crisp but overall nothing to complain about. Food was awful! We went to the BBQ place. The drink machine was out of every single drink except sprite or Vanilla Coke. I was not informed of this when purchasing the drink - had I been aware I wouldn't have purchased it there. The chicken I got was really dry with the smallest amount of BBQ known to man kind. The mac and cheese was good. Lastly, the bathrooms. HORRIBLE. Very unclean. You will be standing in pee and it makes it harder with little ones. read more

Our family was really disappointed in our visit. Been many, many years since I have visited the park. Most everything was closed during our visit. There was a little bad weather, so when we arrived, everything closed down at the amusement park side. By the time everything reopened, we only were able to ride the train. So for almost $300 our family got to ride a train and watch the laser light show. A little more on the trip, we walked the hill about 10 times, going back and forth. Employees are not well trained, some are plain rude, we talked to a handful. Some had bad information about when things might open back up, some honestly didnt want to help anyone. We did find a very nice lady at the Skyride who actually seemed like she had some training. She even went over and corrected another employee on misinformation she had given one member of our party. I would recommend, checking out the nature areas, seeing the show and staying away from the amusement side. Also, the area was not well kept, tons of wasp nest, spiders, etc., just about everywhere we went in the amusement park. read more

Great place to exercise have a picnic or go camping. Once you get past the Confederate flag the park is really beautiful the activities are fun, and the atmosphere is peaceful I recommend climbing up 30 minutes before sunset to watch it go down. read more

I truly enjoyed my visit here, both times. Once as a teenager and once as an adult. I love the carved faces on the side of the mountain. Visited on a Saturday morning around 9am. The mountain is a challenge to climb. It was a sweaty tumultuous jounrney. There were many groups large and small enjoying the trail. We went to Stone Mountain Park yesterday and had a great time! It was unseasonably cool so I decided to be spontaneous. We didn't get there until 5 so we could do a couple of the attractions and stay for the laser show. The entrance price was a little cheaper per person, $21 versus $32. The attractions pass covers a lot of activities and was well worth the cost! My only complaint is the food at the Marketplace. Seriously, the grossest pizza ever. Blah. The laser show started right on time at 9:30 and lasted for 45 minutes. My autistic 9 year old wore his sound reducing headphones and loved every single minute. We all enjoyed it! It's amazing! I'm considering the annual pass because we had such a great time! read more

One of my friends comes to this location a lot. When I visited him, he really wanted to take me. So we went. I'll just say, it is a hike! You'll definitely get some exercise here! But I'm not complaining in the least. Going up, you see the beautiful scenery. Don't miss it. Don't look down at the stones for your next step the entire way. Look up and enjoy it. We climbed for awhile and it got to a point where you can see how far up you are and I thought that was the end. It wasn't. My friend said nope, we're going to the very top! So much work to get there. Blood, sweat and tears. But when you reach the top, the view is breathtaking. It's the cherry at the top. It's the dessert after your main course. It's like waking up and realizing you have 30 more minutes of sleep. What I'm saying is, it's one of the best parts of life. Getting to the top and seeing almost all of Atlanta...words can't explain. You can also travel by cable car...but what's the fun in that? ;) Word of advice: bring water. read more

In Florida all we have are "Trash Mountains" - landfills that have raised up into the sky, are surrounded by buzzards and leave an awfully funky smell in your car if you aren't driving with the "recycle air" function on the AC. *Pretty ironic that it's called "recycle" and if you don't recycle your air you pay the price - but if we don't recycle things they go to this landfill - it's all full circle! Anyways - I was in ATL for a few days and we knew we'd want to hit up Stone Mountain. As we drove in and paid the $10 parking, we began to see little peeks of the peak through the trees. Then it opened up and there she was...in all her stoney glory. This was a sight to see. How does something like this exist? Maybe if you grew up with mountains this isn't all that - but growing up where it's flat, this was incredible. I snapped a few pics from the parking lot, then headed in. They have some cool "kids" activities but they were all closed on this Monday. TIP - head there on a monday afternoon if you want little to no kids. There was actually barely any people there. We got the Skylift to the top because we were short on time - and well in all honesty probably a little out of shape to make the hike. I'm terrified of heights so it's funny I'll take a dangling cart on a string over hiking up a mountain. We were up 1,700 feet in less than a minute. The view from the top is incredible. You can see DT ATL in the horizon and just look out over all the trees and little towns. There's a ton of photo ops, random rocks that serve as "platforms" for you to stand and get some cool shots. We saw folks working out, training, families taking in the sights, couples getting romantic and yogis doing poses. The area is so spread out it never felt crowded (I'm sure it's different on a Saturday). I'd recommend Stone Mountain to everyone visiting ATL. I might even be back to do the hike some day. First experience at Stone Mountain Park. Attended for a family reunion and our family enjoyed the park for the day. We reserved a shelter and also took advantage of their catering package through the park. The food was great and there was a great variety. Our shelter was next to the lakeside golf course. Stone Mountain Park offers a sky ride however it was closed due to a storm in the distance. There is also a nice souvenir store and an array of activities for the family. There is also a land and sea boat tour bus. It looked fun! We hope to come back at a time when the weather is not bad. I also noticed that a lot of people were enjoying the park and walking for exercise. There are many walking trails and a train. Laser show at 9:30 - however we did not attend because of weather. So I'm standing in line waiting for the train which is supposed to depart in 5 min and hasn't begun boarding yet....as in it's hot, I'm standing and getting annoyed, so you should take that into consideration. As I stand here lowering the stars as I'm typing because my annoyance grows. I brought by nephew for the holiday event last December, not impressed, and bought a year memebership as the online advertising said I could bring a guest for free. Well that didn't happen because I didn't find out until after I'd purchased and tried to add his ticket that the my were SOLD OUT of the still being advertised.... So my nephew is back in town and wants to ride the train.... Which just broke down so we've been sitting in line for nothing. We're gonna walk on over to see if we can get on the sky ride but at this point I am going to make the biggest complaint about buying membership I ever had before in my life! Will update as my anger subsided about the us rediculously bad run embarrassment of a national monument stolen from the native people of this land and monetized..... ---so after being told, by the person at the original ticket counter, we needed to get tickets for a time, even though it's included in the pass, I spent 10 min in a line I didn't need to be in. How can I do a quarter star???? My nephew is 10 and is having a good time despite everything, I'm keeping it positive for him. Stone Mountain Park is one of my favorite nearby parks for hiking and the occasional event. In the past I lived nearby and would frequently take the bike trail there and return home. Most recently (I'm know near spaghetti junction) I go there for the hike or events like the Native American Pow-wow or Chili Cook-off. As a trail, the hike is fairly intense - you're mostly going over rocks that have been worn smooth by the feet of millions of visitors. The grade is manageable in the first quarter mile or so with a consistent rise in elevation until you get to "the killer" ascent - luckily there's a pair of metal handrails to help you pull yourself up (if needed). There's also a bit less steep ascent to the left of these rails - it appears from the gravel access road for park vehicles. Alternatively, you can zig-zag using the switchback technique to get up the steep side. Best time to go for the hiking is during the week. I for the most part avoid weekends and holidays as it's just too crowded. No pets are allowed on the ascent so leave spot at home. At the top you'll find a breathtaking view of Atlanta and the surrounding areas - you can see several other mountains in the distance including Kennesaw. Also at the top is a visitors center where you can buy potables and get a drink of water - but I recommend that you bring a bottle of your own. This hike is strenuous and not for the faint-of-heart. If you're not used to this type of hiking you should do it in stages and avoid too much strain - it's particularly rough on the knees and hips. If you're unable to make the hike, the tram ride may be the answer - you get the view without the exercise. The village is interesting but not so interesting that you'll want to make a special trip to visit - it's more useful as a gathering place while doing other activities such as the giant yardsale/flea market or other show type events. You can get funnel cakes there if that's your preference - I've had better but I've also had worse. The village is made up of buildings, mostly transported from various sites around the South, with some historical significance. As a woodworker, I especially like the way the "log cabins" are fitted together using mortise-and-tenon joinery. Parking is free but you will be charged for admission - the park pass is a great deal if you intent to visit often. read more

What a RIP OFF! Nothing on the website indicates that the majority of the park is closed during the time we chose to come. You can pay $20 to ride a gondola to the top of Stone Mountain (1,863 elevation). Pretty view, but I couldn't really see much from a wheelchair. There is a carving in the side of the mountain of some Confederate heroes and the souvenir shop was open (of course), but there was nothing else to see. My advice, save your time and money by passing on this particular tourist trap. read more

Ditch the cable car and do the hike up! You will probably have a feeling of accomplishment and getting your steps and exercise in for the day. It's only a mile and 1,600 feet which is very doable if you work out regularly. Just be prepared to sweat in the summer! The view from the very top by the cable car is the prettiest. Plenty of photo opps throughout the hike and on top. A lot of people rest along the way since there's some shady spots too. We noticed some people doing this hike multiple times throughout our climb. There's always an influx of people coming up and down but it never felt over crowded. read more

Well, it's a mountain all right. After shoveling in some seriously good burgers at Anne's Snack bar, we decided it might be a good idea to go hike up a mountain to work off said burger. Unbeknownst to me, this is one seriously large pile of granite that offers spectacular views - if you can make it to the top. There are some very steep areas and I was not especially prepared for this walk but I made it eventually only to find a cable car at the top - ha for me. Spectacular views of the surrounding GA area and naturally, the walk down is much easier. There is a small place up top to use restrooms and get souvenirs and snacks- but even by tourist price gouging standards, they were a total rip off - $3.39 for a 20 ounce Coke? A trip to Stone Mountain? Yes please! I've climbed up Stone Mountain a number of times! It's absolutely FREE once you pay the $10 Parking fee, of course. It is a great form of exercise in hot weather! I love running up, though be careful about running down. It can get slippery and rocky the steeper you go. If you climb up and get too tired to climb down, take the Sky Ride for $9. The view is absolutely breathtaking! There are many different activities to partake in, for example, paddle boats, hiking, fishing, golfing etc. there's plenty of activities for children as well! In the Winter, they have a "Stone Mountain Christmas" where you have the opportunity to slide down the snow mountain and play in snow (though it is a bit pricy). This is a great tourist attraction and overall family fun! read more

What a cool way to spend Memorial Day weekend in Stone Mountain! This huge granite monolith is the gateway to Stone Mountain Park. The etching carved into the rock's side-- the Confederate Memorial Carving depicts Civil War generals Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee, plus President Jefferson Davis-- is larger than the Mt Rushmore etching! A hiking trail and the coolest Summit Skyride cable car (there's two - a red one and a blue one) lead to the rock's peak. Cool fact: Buildings dating back to 1793 fill the park's Historic Square. Must add Stone Mountain to your bucket list if you've never been! read more

Finally got the chance to visit this park after living in GA for 5 years! Came here with my family on a Saturday and although there was a good crowd of people it wasn't over crowded. We didn't have to wait very long in line for tickets and the sky ride. They charge $20 day park pass, $15 per person for the sky ride. We didn't visit the amusement park this time but I think an adult one day ticket is around $35. The staff was friendly enough but one of the ladies working in the snack shop on the mountain had a sour attitude and made us feel unwelcomed. There's a nice playground on site for the kids and campgrounds. This is a great place for some good outdoor activities like hiking, biking, walking, and even some water sports. You can still have a good time here without going into the amusement park, that's what my family and I did and we enjoyed our time. The top of the mountain offers a scenic backdrop for selfies and family photos! If you're into hiking, walking up and down the mountain is a great workout! If you've never been, I recommend visiting this place at least once so you can decide for yourself whether it's worth it. read more

This is one of my favorite places to visit when I come to Georgia. Stone Mountain Park has mild hiking trails with gorgeous views. The Summit Skyride is $12 dollars round trip and if you're feeling adventures you can also hike up the trail to the mountain. They have gift shops and snack bars up there. We purchased some souvenirs from their gift shops. Once you're tired from being up on the mountain, come down, at night they have good music blasting, (some people were dancing the night I visited) laser show and fireworks. Worst trip I've ever had. Overpriced tickets was just the beginning. After purchasing Christmas village tickets and kicking in extra for VIP and Magic Flight to North Pole I expected at least one of the seven people attending to have a little magic - even the toddler hated it and he lives for this stuff. Let me start with my hotel reservation in the park. I get an email the day before our visit that our reservation was moved from The Inn which is walking distance to the attractions to the Evergreen Resort ten minutes away by car. No big deal - we decide the room was a definite upgrade after looking at both properties. However I'm writing this review at 6:30am from my bed because there is an alarm clock constantly going off in the room that cannot be stopped. It was set by the resort and cannot be unplugged. It's like that horror movie Christine. On to the disaster they call Christmas village. The $30 trip to the North Pole never happened because it was broken but not before we stood in line for two hours before anyone said uhhh we might not be able to get it fixed tonight. Ok no big deal we will go to the Christmas village and turn the day around. Nope more nonsense after waiting in lines the rest of the night until I gave up and left. Lines to get your tickets to enter the village after purchasing online and even having a bar code on my phone. Long lines at the train which is mostly pitch black ride after dark. VIP access was supposed to give you front of the line access but no. Long lines for everything and very little of interest. Gift shops and food are also astronomical and not very good quality. The laser show looked like it might have been ok but I saw very little of it as I was running to get out of this terrible experience. My advice if you go - come at 7:30pm for the 8:20pm laser show and leave 20 minutes later to get to your off property hotel. The front desk phone number at 6:30am is busy because I'm sure everyone is trying to figure out how to shut this alarm off. read more

The educational center was terrific; we met a lady there named Barbara, who was so sweet she provided us with certificates because we climb up the Stone Mountain. Man has thing place changed over the years. The last time before this was about 13 years or so ago and it was just the good ole mountain and peace and quite. Now it's more of an attraction with everyone and the mamma there. There's a sign that says to animals, yet we did see a few people with dogs. They have historic educational areas and lots of active things to do there other than walking the mountain. Oh and you have to pay to enjoy the nature you are already entitled to. Stone Mountain Park is a wonderful state park right outside of Atlanta. I highly recommend coming here as it is a great transition from the heart of the attractions in downtown Atlanta to the heart of nature in a short 20 or so minute drive. The highlight of Stone Mountain is getting to the top for amazing views of the valley of Georgia and so on. You have 2 options. You can take a cable car to the top which costs money, or there's a free hiking trail you can do which doesn't take long if you have some time. I had plenty of time on my hands as all I had left to do for the day was attend the Atlanta Braves baseball game in the evening. So...I hiked up to the top of Stone Mountain. And, although I did this hike in the heart of the summer when it was brutally hot out...I still truly enjoyed being out there and getting some exercise in. The hike only took an hour roughly, and along the way I took photos of my journey to the top. Once I made it to the top, the sights were outstanding! There's always something about making it to the pinnacle of a mountain or peak that makes the journey worthwhile. The views you get to witness of nature at its highest point sparks a feeling of humbleness. It's an awesome feeling! So I did spend about 45 minutes soaking up the atmosphere at the top of Stone Mountain and then I proceeded to hike back down. Once I made it back to the start, I made my way over to a viewing area where you can see Stone Mountain from eye level. It's incredible how big of a rock/mountain it is. I also found it to be very photogenic from this viewing area. So, don't forget to visit this part as well. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here at Stone Mountain. A few hours of being in nature was a perfect way to balance out my time in Atlanta. Of course when I was finished, I headed back to my hotel for a shower! And then it was off to the Atlanta Braves game. If you're visiting Atlanta, definitely take time out to see Stone Mountain Park. read more

Even after living in Atlanta for 6 years, I've never desired to go to Stone Mountain for fireworks on the Fourth of July. It was hot. It was crowded. And there seemed to be a mass exodus of people who did not get there early so parked outside the park migrating to the mountain. It sounds so primal but seriously, everyone knew what they were doing without skipping a beat. The park was already at capacity but we parked our car outside the park and made the long trek in. Usually, parking would have been $15, with an annual pass at $40. Park entry is free, otherwise. There is a laser show at 9:30, which started promptly on July 4th, but we didn't walk to the end of the path so we couldn't see the light show. The fireworks started shortly after (ok more like an hour after) and the finale was beautiful. And since we were a little further away, the shots of the fireworks weren't too jarring. I've been here for sunrise before. We climbed it in the spring, when the sun was unfortunately doomed to be hidden behind the clouds and a slight mist coated us while we stood waiting for a sunrise that never came. The climb isn't too rough, especially with our early morning adrenaline. I would love to get a parking pass here one day so I can enjoy some early morning hikes again.
