My favorite Sunday brunch spot! Went yesterday and had one of the best burgers ever. I've been here twice. The food is quite good but expensive for what you get. The portions are miserly at best and they don't bring bread. How can you serve Italian food with great sauces and not serve bread? Guess they've never been to Italy ... We had to ask for it and it was an extra charge. You are kidding me right? We made a reservation for a table of 5 and they us shoved in what I would consider a lousy small table that did not have reservation sign on it. Maybe we were not hip enough? I was charged 20 dollars for a double well drink with the explanation that "a double means two drinks" (totally not how a double works...). The drink didn't even come in a tall glass, nor was it even two separate drinks! The waiter with the explanation also came off fairly rude when in all reality I've never paid twenty bucks for a double well drink (or a premium cocktail for that matter), so all I did was ask to make sure the bill was correct. This was my second time in. The first time I went in they didn't have menus and the waitress wasn't sure what the kitchen had on the menu whatsoever. Such a bizarre (in a bad way) restaurant. Not a successful day for brunching outside! We were looking for a brunch spot on new year's day and every other place was either booked or closed; so we decided to finally give Stone burner a chance. I would say it was more than a service issue than the food issue. I feel like everyone was still hung over or confused about their new year resolutions, so we had to ask for everything several times, between asking for more coffee, or a toast that was supposed to be served on the side of a main dish, we probably tried to flag down our waitress 20 times; 19 of which were unsuccessful. :( The food was good. I had an avocado toast and it was a huge toast filled with avocado and two poached eggs. I felt like the choices were very limited and it took each of us a long time to decide on what to order. I wish the options were either more or more traditional. Checked out if they had an open table available, and my friend made a joke. The older woman apparently doesn't like to smile and went in his face calling him a trouble maker then walked away. We're all over the age of 30, so to talk to us as if we were teenagers is pretty shocking. Then the other girl told us there was nothing for 3 hours. It was said in reference to get us out. We go to Stoneburner often. The food and ambiance are great and it's walking distance away from our home. Zoe took care of us this evening and you can tell that she legitimately enjoys taking care of people, always looking for what will have your evening be excellent. I waited tables for a long time and there's something distinctly pleasant being in the presence of people who enjoy taking care of you. We went in on Sunday evening after seeing a holiday play. We had a reservation at 5 and they sat us early. I was with my parents and my grumpy teenagers--one overly hungry vegan and two confirmed meat eaters. They did everything in their power to make us feel welcome including making a special vegan pasta for my daughter AND giving her a free vegan pizza. The food was wonderful. My favorite was either the vegan pizza or the cauliflower pasta. My parents adored the mushroom/potato pizza with the melted cheese sauce. The garlic bread was as hot off the grill as it was delicious. We also had the stuffed olives, and my only complaint about them was there weren't more of them. My mother had a wonderful Brandy Alexander and my sons were happy with their pasta and pepperoni pizza. It was a great experience and our waitress was fantastic. She said she understood what it was like to be a mother of a grumpy child (even though hers was only two--amazing how similar adolescents and toddlers are really). We were treated to a lovely dinner here by our Mom who was in town for Christmas, and staying at the new Ballard Hotel along with 4 other family members. The menu was elegant (and pricey) with a wonderful array of vegetable dishes paired with sauteed fresh fish, pastas and meats. The environs were opulent yet had a true old Ballard feel with the re-purposed wood beams and old wrought iron decor. The food was utterly delicious and we did share bites but each of us chose one entree' for ourselves. I had the skirt steak with braised red cabbage which was colorful on the plate and the steak (medium rare) melted in my mouth. We will definitely go back again! I'm giving a One-star ding for our food server who made us feel awkward and "uncool" for wanting individual entrees as well as our sides served all-at-once. She literally said, "You must be from out of town...we normally let the chef choose the order in which the dishes are served, and most people eat here family style!" This was embarrassing because I live in Ballard! Luckily our Brother spoke up and said, "well you must not know our family style, we like our own entrees." I have high expectations for my pizza. Being from the east coast, I've grown up used to that deliciously floppy piece of New York style pizza. When I moved to Washington I found that most pizzas weren't fit to be served in a bowling alley. Stoneburners in Ballard gave me the absolute best piece of pizza I've had in the state, and is definitely one of my favorite pizzas to date. The thing that makes a good pizza great is the ratio of crust, sauce, and cheese. Too much cheese and its a grease fest, too much sauce and its the only thing you'll be tasting, and too much crust and you'll find yourself chowing down on a bland piece of bread. This pizza was nailed, though. The crust was crisp on the bottom but still decadently floppy, the sauce had just a touch of spice to it, and the cheese was nice and salty. It also came with optional Parmesan, red pepper, and herbs. The Parmesan was perfect to sprinkle just on top. Everything was plated beautifully. One of the most striking things about this restaurant is how beautiful it is. It's very much industrial chic, but very classy and expensive looking. The pricing wasn't too unreasonable, however! Altogether I would say it was a fantastic experience and I don't have anything negative to say. read more

We typically go to Laredo's in Lower Queen Anne for brunch; it's walking distance from our place, the food is tasty and their prices are competitive; but my wife tells me that since having just got back from New Mexico, the last thing on her mind is anything remotely Mexican. Then she says the following, "What about Stoneburner?" My heart begins to melt, and it's as if i'm re-falling in love with her...I reply with a resounding 'YES!' and drove us straight there. {{The first time I went to Stoneburner was for brunch. This was around October of 2014. I went with two of my best guy friends. I don't remember how we came to choosing this spot, but I'm glad we did! The food was tasty, the service was top-notch, the laughs were loud and the drinks were strong! In the end, I completely forget about this amazing place until several months later were I am telling a story to my wife about a weekend of drunken debauchery and french toast...then it hits me...'What was the name of that restaurant in Ballard?' Quick Google search...STONEBURNER. My wife and I agree to go there one Thursday evening for dinner, and the experience was great, however, I'm a sucker for breakfast, and I keep telling her how much more awesome the breakfast/brunch menu is. We leave the restaurant with a good buzz, and Stoneburner takes its appropriate seat in the back of our minds...}} I'm glad my wife remembered about the brunch menu, because I'm a creature of habit and place too much emphasis on convenience...and I'm also very loyal! This is why I always enjoy going to Laredos, and will continue to spend my money there; but from here on out...whenever I find myself in Ballard around "brunch time," I will definitely remember Stoneburner and their amazing french toast! read more

Been in twice now, food was great both times. Some of the best deserts ever, hands down. Pizza was delicious, salad was tasty, everything we had was pretty satisfactory. The service requires a couple separate notes. On the first time it was a family deal, and honestly we probably seemed a little out of place because the restaurant is a little upscale and we are frankly not. The server was polite at first but kind of snooty, and we caught an underhanded jab after I asked a question about serving size. It felt like he thought he disguised it a bit but it was definitely an insult. Whatever, we still enjoyed the food. The next time we went we had a couple different servers and they were great, really nice and on it. Had a nice spot, food was even better than before, and seriously, the deserts are amazing. It can get a little pricey for a group but it's worth it, and a lot of the dishes are great to share around the table. That guy was annoying though. read more

1 star is too good for this establishment. Awful experience. Now here's why... The most horrible customer service I've experienced in a long time. The manager actually rolled her eyes, scoffed, and shouted at my friend and walked away from her while she was still talking. I was even more upset because we were there to celebrate her birthday. We had a discrepancy on the bill and was confused about the cold cuts and cheese portion of the menu. When my friend went up to ask about the bill that's when the manager Dawn behaved badly. She then had the server drop the revised bill off at the table and she never came back to my friend and left her standing at the front counter. She was so unprofessional and I am utterly disgusted with her attitude. It really irritates me that she would treat a customer in that manner. Even though the owner eventually came out with her when we asked to see her again, he just stood there and didn't say one word while Dawn issued her fake, condescending "apology" and made excuses for her unnecessary behavior. Her exact words were, "I'm sorry you felt embarrassed and I'm sorry you took it so personal and I hope you come back, but if you don't I'll understand." Seriously never going back there again. If you like overpriced cauliflower, mediocre pizza, and pretentious staff who just don't give a damn about customer service in the food industry then this is the place to go. Nestled in youthful Ballard, Stonebruner shines while new bars/restaurants open weekly. The wine selection is extensive and our server, Genevieve, tolerated our lack of knowledge with a smile. I truly enjoyed the charcuterie board, snao pea salad, and fennel sausage pizza. While these items are not out of the ordinary, Jason Stonebruner is able to keep "foodies" happy. My one and only complaint would be the wait time to be seated. Which is a nod to his success seeing as I keep coming back. read more

Horrible customer service. Food was okay. Went to Stoneburner with some friends last week and couldn't believe the lack of customer service. Our waitress was impersonal and acted like she didn't want us there or that she didn't want to be working there. After dinner we went to talk to the manager, Dawn about the type of service we were given. She literally laughed us off like we didn't know what we were talking about. The absolute worst restaurant manager I've ever dealt with. After her rude response to our feedback, we told her we wouldn't be coming back and she seemed to be fine about that fact. Unbelievable. Ok, qualifier we were there for FIFA and happy hour. More like happy sour. Plenty of drinks to choose from, but literally only pizza and salad until 5pm? If I had seen that and not been off washing my hands I would have left for greener pastures. The salads that we ordered were over saturated with dressing. Overlarge leaves of lettuce that forced a messy cutting. The pizza was...there. Nothing special no pop or special kick. The only upside was that is was thin. OK. We were in the bar so service can be expected to be spotty, but to never check on the meal and to have to wave staff down for salt and pepper is annoying. The kicker is that they were not crowded. Plenty of time to check on patrons in this situation. The fact that this is connected to the gym that I have despised for years was extra incentive to be highly aware of what they were trying to pull. Another case of the half hearted Ballard push. They keep cramming whatever they can into Ballard to take advantage of the popularity but the quality is just not there.
