I didn't know this until after the fact: the coconut chai does not include coconut milk only coconut flakes. The baristas were nice about the misunderstanding. Hidden gem alert! I've been coming back to Le Vingt Trois Cafe & Bakery, and it never disappoints. I love taking my time here and truly savoring my coffee and food. The space is unique and cozy, filled with romantic decor that makes it feel like home. The food and pastries are just as amazing as the atmosphere. I tried their rose latte, topped with delicate rose petals. It was so pretty and uniquely flavorful. I've also tried their pesto poulet sandwich (baguette, pesto chicken, tomato, green pepper, and mozzarella cheese) and it was super yum! The chocolate hazelnut pastry is a perfect companion for the coffee, and you can ask for your pastry to be warmed up, which is even better. Bonus: they serve the coffee in a cute mug, which is such a nice touch. Love when I can have my coffee in a mug! Employees are nice, and the service is great! Plenty of seating and parking is easy. Such a quaint, adorable little French coffee shop hidden in the heart of Herndon. Their menu is definitely Levantine-inspired and their ambience is perfectly French. I love that they have a rotating seasonal menu, and I was pleasantly surprised with the iced Paris rose. I typically don't go for floral coffees but this one was perfectly balanced and not overly powering with the floral flavors. Even more, I mentioned my initial hesitancy to order this drink because of the floral flavor and the barista kindly offered to reduce the lavender syrup for me, and after trying it, I decided I actually wanted more lavender flavoring, and she so happily obliged without making me feel guilty or weird for having been skeptical at first. As a savvy traveler obviously I consult Yelp for recommendations when visiting an area and that is how I discovered Le Vingt Trois Café. The café is even cuter and more charming than I had imagined and the food and coffee were perfection. After seeing so many reviews singing its praises I knew I had to order the Jambon Buerre - a sliced baguette filled with prosciutto, Brie, arugula and a "special herb-butter." The fellow at the counter confirmed that this is their most popular item, and I can see why. For some reason I was not expecting it to be warm but it really brought out the crustiness of the bread and allowed the cheese to melt and the flavors to mingle together nicely. I relished every bite. I selected an iced Lavande Blanc, made with lavender, white chocolate and espresso, as my liquid accompaniment and it was delicious. I returned the next morning for breakfast and enjoyed a Havana Cold Brew (vanilla cold brew topped with snow foam) and a mind-blowing pistachio croissant . read more

The sandwich was rich but not too heavy and the thyme sprigs surprisingly added a good amount of flavor. The pistachio croissant was filled with pistachio spread and was decedent but not cloyingly sweet. The music was a bit too loud inside but I popped some headphones in to lower the din. I had the opportunity to tried their catering version of the villageois sandwich and today had the opportunity to try it freshly made. The difference is slight but the taste is still delicious. What's the difference? With the cater version is cold va at freshly done is warm, bread is crunchy and the halloumi is warm. I also got the opportunity to try their hibiscus iced tea, perfect refreshment for the summer. The restrooms are clean, staff provides excellent service and the whole ambience is perfect to relax. All items were devoured by the family, including kids. I particularly enjoyed the flavor of the chicken pesto with the addition of small bits of bell pepper -- would have never imagined that going well. I had seen this cafe when driving through this partial industrial park but had not stopped until today. I found a parking place by the door and that helped make the decision for me to try it. It was like walking into a quiet Paris but with almost all tables occupied with small groups of people chatting over coffee and simple foods. Decided I wanted / needed to switch up my morning routine and have sit down coffee somewhere and I decided to give Le Vingt a try. There's an adorable outdoor patio with tables, chairs and umbrellas if you want to enjoy your coffee with a little sunshine and there are plenty of shabby chic chairs, tables, love seats and high back chairs inside. They do a really nice job of literally making you feel transported to France with the decor, menu and music. The staff are all super friendly and go above and beyond to ensure you're good. I ordered a cappuccino and a ham & cheese baguette and was told to grab a seat and my order would be brought out to me. In about 5 minutes I had my order and it was plated on the cutest dishware which just elevated the experience even more. Both the cappuccino and baguette were made to order and absolutely fresh and delicious (I wound up bringing 1/2 my baguette home). My friend and I were looking at the menu weeks in advance of our visit to see what we wanted to order. We knew in our hearts and belly that we needed the pistachio cake. A charming French style cafe with some unique coffee and tea options and delicious food. There is a tiny patio area on the front of building and a spacious dining area inside. I went with a friend for an early lunch (11:30) on a weekday and the restaurant was mostly empty. I opted for the seasonal rouge blanc latte (ube and white chocolate) with le falafel and my friend had the lavande blanc (lavender and white chocolate) paired with a savory vegetarian croissant of the day. My drink was delicious, the ube offering a slight savory/earthy component that balanced out the sweetness of the white chocolate. My falafel was also delicious, although the huge chunks of jalapeño peppers were pretty spicy, especially when you get a whole mouthful. I don't mind the heat, if you do you might want to have them left out. My friend enjoyed their latte and very light and flakey croissant sandwich also. We thought we were going to try the desserts too but ended up too full from the sandwiches. They looked very nice. Prices are in line with the neighborhood. We came in at about $20 per person for our lunches after tax and tip. There's a decent amount of parking in front and more around the back of the neighboring building. This place would get five stars for ambiance but the food was really lacking for me. I have seen Le Vingt Trois frequently recommended for croissants, so I got both a croissant and a pain au chocolat to try, and both were pretty disappointing. The croissant tasted more like a crescent roll and didn't have the classic, flaky, laminated layers that make a true croissant. I also got a Villageois sandwich, which had halloumi tomato, and pesto. It was okay, but did not stand out to me. It's also a pretty small portion, although the price is reasonable (it was around $8.50). I really enjoyed the latte I had, though- it had salted caramel and amaretto and was absolutely delicious. It's really cute inside, so I think this would be a nice place to come for some coffee or tea and to catch up with a friend. read more

Mary, the amazing owner is originally from Australia. Lucky me just got back from Melbourne 4 weeks ago for this genuine Aussie love and care here in Virginia. The name of this gorgeous, cozy, sweet, comfortable cafe and bakery means " The Twenty Three" in French. The sweet lady who told me about this fantastic establishment is from Azerbaijan, once part of Iran. The delicious sandwich that I ordered here and absolutely loved was the Jardeniere, with Labneh or Lebanese cream cheese as one of the main ingredients. The three superstar team members in the photo at the counter are Asian, Albanian( the awesome Ray)and African American. They had an onslaught, I mean a line twelve deep in the pouring rain at 1:10 pm and they masterfully and effortlessly prepared the orders, cleared and cleaned the tables, kept the line flowing while smiling. The theme and the song playing in my head is " International Love" by Pitbull. Hats off to the stellar cafe owner Mary who has brought her architectural and design expertise in creating a warm, inviting, beautiful environment coupled with her love for all types of food - Croque Monsieur, Roti, Pasta Penne, Labneh in the Jardeniere, grilled halloumi in the Villageous Sandwich - for us lucky Virginia residents ( and this NYer) to love and enjoy as if we were sitting in Paris's 23rd district ( Paris actually has 20) here in Herndon.Sure feels like it. Love it here! It's such a cute cafe and their offerings are amazing. The staff is always nice and on point. They remember our order and always greet us with warm welcome. Jambon Buerre is what we always get. We ask for extra arugula and they're happy to do it. The owner once said that her original recipe had more arugula but the guests told her there were too much of it so they don't mind adding extra. However, because they are quite busy, the workers don't clean the couches/tables/chairs often. It also matches well with the plates/cups. It's a cute place to get work done as it isn't too loud either! The lavender latte looks as it tastes, but I think the main attraction is the plating more compared to the food. That being said, the lavender flavor was definitely there and not too overpowering.
