The bars are back open!! Hooray!!!!
    Pat M.

While running errands on a rainy Saturday afternoon, my wife and I were looking for a new place to try for lunch. Since we were going to be in the area, we decided to stop in at the Old Mill Tavern. This happened to be the first weekend sitting at bars is allowed again and while we sat at a table, it was just nice to see. The drinks were excellent and the food was better than your typical bar food. From my Bloody Mary, to the boneless wings appetizer, to the entrees, we both enjoyed our food. On top of which, the cakes are brought in from a Denville bakery and my carrot cake was delicious! If you're in Chester and you're looking for a nice stop for drinks or food, give this old fashioned tavern a try!

The staff was super nice...seating us outside even though we arrived a few minutes before they opened. Overall good bar/pub food. We stopped here Bc of its proximity to Hacklebarney State Park. After hitting the trails for a few miles we devoured our food...more out of hunger than anything else. The Cooper burger was good I'm told, while there was nothing wrong with my Buffalo chicken sandwich. I will say though, both the regular and the waffle fries had no flavor (lacking salt too). Kids ate the pizza without complaint.

We stopped in after going to Alstede farms. It is a dark, old school pub with a small menu. Overall, I would skip this place. My burger was simply ok , nothing to rave about. It wasn't salted and served overcooked. The wings were also overcooked and the kid's grilled cheese wasn't melted enough. How can you mess up grilled cheese? The only great part of my meal was the Guinness. If I'm around the area again, I am definitely going to try another restaurant.

The only good things about this place were the waffles fries and the cole slaw (and the service was pretty quick too). Our party of four came in on a Sunday a little after two and it was pretty empty. To start, we had the 'broccoli poppers', more out of curiosity and not because we actually wanted them. But they turned out to be pretty good. It's basically just battered discs of broccoli and cheese. For my main, I went with the rib-eye cheese steak. I thought it would be shaved steak, but it was actually just slab of beef, covered with a thick layer of cheese. It was pretty oily so I'm really glad I opted for cole slaw instead of fries, especially since my BF already had fries with his meal. The first few bites were not bad but the more I ate it, the saltier it seemed to get. I felt very lethargic afterwards, and not in a good way. I know, I know - what do I expect after eating a cheese steak? Well I've had other cheese steaks before (that were good) and didn't feel like a pile of sludge afterwards. We only stopped in because it was close to the hiking spot we had just gone to, and we were starving. Won't be returning again though.

Sirloin steak; medium rare. Broccoli & steak fries. Delicious!

Went to this landmark for my mother's 75th birthday. Greeted at the hostess stand cordially & immediately. Sat down at a deuce against the front windows of the tavern. Server immediately took a drink order and asked if we wanted to start with an appetizer. Very friendly staff; probably 6 tables were sat when we got there and a few patrons sitting at the bar. We ordered our drinks & a bacon wrapped scallops appetizer. Got 4 HUGE sea treasures wrapped in swine delivered to the table quickly; cooked to perfection with the standard lemon wedge accompaniment. They were quite nice. The entrees ordered were teriyaki steak (which seemed like a flank cut) asked for medium & was on point with that. My mother loves that dish & has ordered it often. My order was the 16 oz sirloin, asked for medium rare, with broccoli & steak fries. All came out excellent, basically perfect. Kitchen & staff was on point with delivery of food, clearing empty plates, and refilling drinks. Got a $5 slice of carrot cake to end. (Small piece; very) scallops app $15 teriyaki steak $21 sirloin steak $28 soft drinks $3 each. Very nice dinner out. With 22% tip. $100 for a nice celebration out. Highly recommend.

Draft list Oct 2020. Craft pints $6.50

I had the Smashed Sweet Potato Burger which was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had!!! A delicious brioche roll was filled with two patties made from sweet potatoes and spices, covered in pistachios and crispy shallots, then drizzled with honey. Even a non-Vegan will love this. The standard looking French fries were anything but- they were crispy and delicious with just the right amount of sea salt. The chicken tenders were cooked perfectly and seemed freshly made not frozen. Everyone had to have a taste. The dessert was the showstopper- citrus olive oil cake topped with whipped cream and orange zest. The texture was amazing and it was incredibly delicious. My young grandson had a dish of vanilla ice cream, which also looked standard until you tasted it- super creamy with a strong vanilla flavor that was really outstanding. Everyone enjoyed their meal, which was reasonably priced. I honestly can't wait to go there again. Located off the Main Street , it is easy to miss but be sure to seek it out- you won't be disappointed.

We ordered the cornbread special, the porchetta sandwich special, and the biscuits and gravy. Everything was fresh, filling, and delicious. The porchetta sandwich was flavorful, though I personally found a few pieces a bit fatty with some skin, which wasn't my preference. The biscuits and cornbread on the other hand were fantastic! I also loved the cozy setup inside and the fun idea of having games to play while you dine. The staff was friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better! 4.5! When we arrived they were pretty full!! But there were still a couple table opened, the gentlemen (I assume he must be the owner) direct us to the booth, and ask for our drink right away!! Which was nice since we don't need to wait for someone to come serve, we will be getting our drink super fast!! We ordered a breakfast dish (eggs, bacon, toast, and home fries), and also a country fried steak!! They came out super fast!! And OMG.. that home fries is to die for!! I think I can eat that ALL day long!! Super tasty!! As for the steak, it was ok... guess I was expecting a little more crunchier (not sure if it's because of the sauce they made the steak a bit soggy or not) but the sausage gravy is tasty as well!! The eggs are fresh and taste soo good!! Love it!! Service is super nice, I have a feeling they are family own business and they just work together so well... you can feel they genuinely care for the customers and lots of them are their usuals... We will definitely come back for sure!!! And if you are Marilyn Monroe fan that's the bonus for you!!

It feels like a hole in the wall, but at the same time is actually very clean and thoughtfully decorated. I loved all of the pictures of old fashioned movie stars on the wall, and much preferred this ambiance to any of my local diners. Our server was a young man who we later found out was the grandson of the owners, who were sitting right at the counter table. It made Marilyn's even more charming to know that it really is just a mom-and-pop that an entire family rallys to takes great pride in. I was really excited to see cheese blintz on the menu, as this is one of my favorites but is not so common! I ordered this, along with a side of bacon, and a decaf coffee. My blintz was excellent and came loaded with fresh fruits and sour cream. It was better than the blintzes I used to order from my favorite Ukranian restaurant in NYC. The bacon was cooked perfectly (crispy!) and my coffee was awesome. I will definitely be returning to bring my husband. I am only knocking off one star (it hurts to do this because I really loved my food and experience here) because they only offer bottled water, they are cash only, and the bathroom was very VERY cramped. Otherwise this would've been a five star review!
