Went to Village Saloon yesterday for their Wednesday night specials, with entertainment. Guitar player was excellent, just the right volume and played all of your favorites. The drink special is $2 Bud/Bud Lights on tap,nice!! They were cold and served up with a smile. The wings are supposedly on special for $10, but the regular menu lists them at same price so I just cannot explain that. They were, however, some of the tastiest buffalo wings I've had in years. Perfectly cooked, with very hot sauce as requested, carrots, celery, and what I believe was homemade blue cheese. Exceptional, all of it. I just wish there were 1-2 more wings per order, as it's kind of light. You can't have everything, the taste and texture were on point. Very kind staff and warm environment that we want to get to know better. See you next Wednesday!! read more

Good food, I got the chicken franchise. Snd wanted it on Angel hair. Which was not on the menu. 5 min later they came to be and said they could accommodate me. Fantastic. Randomly chose to stop in on a rainy day for lunch. My usual go to is a burger if it is my first time and I'm glad that I got one. Possibly the second best burger that I've had in the state. Don't let the outside appearance fool you. We moved to the area four years ago and have driven past Village Saloon numerous times without giving it the proper consideration. We finally stopped in and weren't disappointed. It's very nice inside. The staff is great and the menu is diverse enough to accommodate anyone. The food speaks for itself in that it's very good. I am very disappointed in this place. I ordered a cheese steak & I was not informed they ran out of cheese so I received my meal with a Kraft singles on top not melted. Also, I found a piece of hair in my French fries. The only thing we enjoyed were the potato skins and the mozzarella sticks. Food really was not anything special at all. read more

We went specifically to see the band. We ate outside and ordered food that was easy to eat. Our waitress was very pleasant but she did forget some things we had ordered. Not a big deal though. I realize that they lost income because of Covid, but I do think that $5 for a glass of seltzer is a bit much. We were charged the same for our beers. Probably won't return. read more

Went out to the booneys for this place. This place is super popular. We went in the winter and the parking was terrible. The lot is pretty big, but the snow banks made a pretty good dent in the availability. Had to wait in the car for someone to leave to get a spot. Once in, everything was great. They had paulener heff on tap which is great, especially all the way out in sussex county. We had a bunch of apps which were all good (particularly the calamari). I got a mocha steak which I didnt particularly care for, but ate the whole thing. (I have not had good luck branching out lately to odd food items). Everything else was good, service was great. Might be a little too remote to go to again, but I would recomend it to anyone in the area. read more

Went to enjoy local band. Which was good. Old bar charm. Had outdoor dining but band set up inside. Bartender had to check on correct alcohol for drink request and first round was served with wrong condiments. Generous sized drinks. Loved the wait staff. Fun and friendly. Food okay but not worth price in my opinion and there was a use of credit card fee added to the bill. read more

Wild Game Wednesday was great. Quick friendly service. My husband had the venison. It was delicious--not gamey and cooked to perfection. Will be back to try the elk or the boar. Prices are reasonable. read more

this is a very conflicted review.... I LOVE their food. They have the best burgers around and other food as well. However, I really am questioning the cleanliness there. We were there for dinner/drinks at the bar and I witnessed something I have never ever seen before in my life. The bartender stuck his ENTIRE arm in a jar of cherries to put them in the bar rack....didn't wash his hands before, after or during, but proceeded to wipe his hands on a (dirty) bar towel that was hanging on the side of the bar. This towel is what was used to wipe down the bar.....he then proceeded to do the EXACT same thing with the giant jar of olives. ENTIRE DIRTY ARM IN, scoped them out and put them in the tray. Next up...used the same dirty towel, wiped his hand, they scoped out ice into a glass and made someone a drink!!!! Needless to say, it completely ruined our appetites, I stopped eating, asked for the check and left. Sadly, we will never go there again. if this is what goes on at the bar, what happens in the kitchen? HE NEVER WASHED HIS HANDS THIS ENTIRE TIME. Appealing cowboy funk decor. Even has an old-fashioned telephone booth. Remember those? Friendly staff, creative menu and eclectic decor make for an enjoyable experience. The food is well prepared and presented in reasonable time. At least I have found it so. The menu is creative. Some would class this as a dive bar but it really is so much more. This is one of the better restaurants in Sparta, NJ. The location is out of the way and decor and setting seems to half a foot in Sparta and the other half in Lake Hopatcong. Personally, I like it. I like the funky cowboy stuff. The service here is casual but caring and efficient. The food is one of the reasons why we keep coming back. The prices are reasonable and food ranges from very casual for example the Taylor Ham and Cheese that is my husbands favorite to Chicken with a Gorgonzola Sauce. The Chicken dish is better than that served in higher priced restaurants in the area. We love this place. They also mix a pretty good drink. read more

The Village is a hidden gem of a restaurant in a little log cabin just around the corner from me. Big bonus points for them having Weiss on tap--one of my favorite beers and the price for a big tall glass is pretty reasonable. I hear the specials are always very good because they have some dude in the kitchen who used to be a bigshot fancy NYC chef and moved to the backwoods of Sparta when he couldn't take the city grind any longer. I wouldn't know personally because I typically don't want to spend more than 10 or $12 on dinner, so I end up with a burger or barpie, both of which are very good here. :-) One thing that I find kind of charming about the village is that they don't have an official closing time--I believe they do typically stop serving food around 10 as I've been in after that in search of dinner a few times and been turned away, but I pass here every day and some nights the lights are out at 7:30 and others it's still going strong at 12. But a few times I've either called or stopped in and asked what time they close and they just say "Oh...ya know, whenever people leave." I don't know what it is but I just find that kind of looseness with the hours so appealing! read more

Don't be put off by the outside. The approach is like the tumbleweed biker bar in PeeWee's Big Adventure. But once in the welcome is warm, service is that of a grandmother's house. The food aroma outweigh the trifling sent of boos! Potato skins are top notch - crisp and cheesy. Pal had the burger and raved. Beers cold and plentiful. Every drink I saw was tall as a pint of brew. Second time dining here and have to say very disappointed this time around. The food is decent nothing great but fine for the prices. However our service was lacking to say the least. If you are looking for a great meal in a totally casual setting, this is the place. The place is small but all of the employees are super friendly. Only thing I may have issue with is when the bar is full and the owner is sitting at the bar taking up valuable merchandise, but I don't want to let that ruin my review. The food at this place is great! The wings are a favorite of mine and the bleu cheese is awesome! Ive always enjoyed my meal choices too from the creative special menu. I have passed by this place many times over the years and have always been curious about it. Last night I had the opportunity to stop in for dinner. The food and service were fantastic, I'm going back tonight. As you can tell from the outside, it is a very rustic. The bar space and dining space are about equal, with nice tables, so I'd say it's family friendly. The steak was not the best quality, but tasted great. Portions were just right and not over done. Update...Night #2 was great as well. I had a chicken dish and Cajun fries. Even a almost full capacity, the service was still great. read more

The Village Saloon is what a small local eatery should be! The owner is friendly and hands on. The staff is limited so the food doesn't fly out of the kitchen but the food is worth the short wait. There is a good selection of beer. The atmosphere is pleasant. My family visited on Monday which is prime rib night. All four of us ordered the steak and each dish was served as ordered, cooked to perfection. And the banana chocolate chip cake I had for dessert was awesome!! read more

we went there for dinner, and some drinks, there was some tables in the dinning area, but when we walked in they put us in the back the table was right between the bathrooms, not a good impression, we said it's ok aleast you don't forget about us...that was the understatement...asked us what we like to drink , when she came back we placed our orders. ok timeing, no ketup that took 20 mins, by than everything was cold, who got to eat the food was good, BUT the service sucked. another half hour just to ask for bill, gave the server the card instead of waiting again, another 20 minutes for to get the card back...I said you need help 2 waitress and 1 bartender isn't enough, if your waitng that long. read more

I was quite surprised by the quality of the food at the Village Saloon. I have eaten there maybe 25 or 30 times now. They have daily specials (on a hand written page provide with the regular menu) and if you order from the daily specials you are almost certainly going to be pleased with your meal. I asked around a bit and I think they have two high quality chefs working at this out of the mainstream local. [In only gave it 4 out 5 starts, because there is a limited selection of beer on tap and because the few times I ordered from the standard menu I thought the meals to be just "ok", about on par with the other local restaurants.. If the whole menu was as good as the daily special menu and if they had a little more variety in beer on tap, I would have given it 5 out of 5 stars.] read more

A small group of us went to this restaurant cause we had a 25 dollar gift certificate. The total bill was over 200 dollars but they refused to accept the gift certificate. It was purchased on restaurant.com and even though they participated in this promotion when it came right down to it they made an excuse to not accept it. The food was ok and so was the service but the feeling among my group is that we were robbed by both the village saloon and restaurant.com. We all agreed that we will never go back to this place again. There are too many restaurants out there to waste time and money at a place that doesn't appreciate your business. Two days after the night this occurred I called the restaurant to speak to the owner/manager to voice my concerns. After she answered she said in a very rude manner that she was busy then hung up the phone on me. Horrible experience. Will never go there again. read more

The lunches are always tasty and simply delicious. I also had dinner there and all 6 of us were very happy with our meals, All the soups are yummy! I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I was visiting some friends and this is a regular place for them. When we pulled up I was concerned. It's located on a quiet country road and looks a bit rough around the edges. The interior was also rough around the edges. Or waitress was also ... you get the point. Anyway, I was surprised at the menu and the various choices here. We shared an app of blackened shrimp that was very good. Nice large shrimp well seasoned and perfectly cooked with a blue cheese dipping sauce. Very Nice. My daughter had a nice crock of French onion soup with a generous amount of melted cheese. One person had a grilled chicken sandwich that was a fresh chicken breast butterflied and cooked over a grill and it was moist and tasty. I had Shrimp Parmesan. It was really good and the sauce was great. My friend had a salmon special that was also very good. I already told my friends next time I visit this would be a great place for a night out. read more

We waited forever for our food and only being a table of two it shouldn't have taken so long. We almost missed the movie we were going to afterwards. Besides the time issue, I ordered the chicken marsala dinner. This dish was hard to eat, their was entirely too much marsala wine in it. Guess they got the idea that since its in the name it should be the only ingredient in the sauce. I didn't end up eating very much of this dish. But otherwise I like the casual home town atmosphere I might go back for a second try. read more

Relaxed atmosphere your typical Saloon but with a twist..great dishes by the Chef Lenny and creative specials like Wild Wendnesdays ( game specials) and Shore Mondays ( donation to Sandy Relief). Taco Tuesdays are the best...you must give it a try you won't be disappointed. Nice people. read more
