Definitely a neighborhood pub! I have a few friends that live in Logan and they basically live at Stoney's! i always look forward to meeting them there. They have a great bar selection and the food is great too. They have your typical bar food menu, but the quality is on a higher scale. My favorite is the black and blues salad. It is a cesaer salad with steak and blue cheese crumbles!!!! Yummy!!! They are also known for their hella good grilled cheeses and chilli. If you are in the neighborhood it's definitely worth a try. The last time I visited Stoney's was in 2004 (during a college trip), but I liked it so much, I had to write a review. First off, Stoney's was tucked away around the corner from our hotel. That was a plus. It reminded me of home -- small, with good food and friendly staff. There were photos all over the walls of politicians eating in the restaurant. It wasn't one of those places where you just saw an autographed picture, so it had a bit of authenticity. I just ordered a cheeseburger and fries, nothing special. The burger was a good portion and juicy. The bun was a little dry, but nothing some ketchup couldn't help. The fries were excellent. If I ever go back to D.C., Stoney's will definitely be one of my first stops for a meal. read more

stoney's at it's "new"er location has about all the personality of a wooden robot al gore delivering a days long speech to a silently staring crowd of those car dummies from the 80s in some white room where the wind doesn't blow and the air is always on. minus the al gore. and the car dummies....which means its right in line with the rest of that cardboard slapped up block true to the recent style of dc condoland....it's annoyingly bright, relatively sedate, and most of the current crowd looked like they bathed in a douche bag before wiping their whole bodies with dermacare and oxyclean, pressed their dresses and collars, and walked into the night with a a spritz of non-alcoholic perfume to fight off unwanted vapors. BUT, they do have one killer loaded grilled cheese. two huge slices of garlicky texas toast style bread oozing with melty cheese, slices of tomato and red onion, dribbling over with bacon greese, and served up with fries and pickles.... certainly does the trick on a late drunken night, and one of the cheaper options around. and pretty quick from the kitchen. they also have a fairly long tap-beer list for continuing that drunkenness, but the selection of that list leaves something to be desired....that said, there are a few worth drinking, and old taps perching near the celing tell you that better selections have lived here before and probably will again... and you won't be much overcharged to find them all in all, if you managed to stop in some time latelate on a fairlygone and towardstheending emptying night, found yourself one of the good drafts, ordered yourself up a grilled cheese, and had a few quarters to spare for the jukebox, you'd probably leave in a better state than you came in....which is pretty solid for what it is.... read more

I think Stoneys just became my new favorite place in town to get some serious "pub grub." I've lived in the neighborhood for almost a year now and have never ventured in, despite the fact that it always looked like a nice little bar to stop in for a drink. The Boy and I stopped in for a a drink yesterday and I was actually impressed with the food too! Had the Spinach-Artichoke dip (which was ENORMOUS) and we both got burgers. The Texas Burger, which I ordered, was massive (hello lunch the next day!), saucy, drippy, cooked to a perfect medium-rare, and basically amazing--definitely a 4 napkin burger though, so beware the mess. The Boy got the Black and Blue burger, which was equally good, although far less saucy and drippy than mine. I was watching what everyone else around me was ordering and everything that came out of the kitchen looked delicious. Nothing fancy, just well prepared and damn tasty pub-grub, which can honestly be hard to find. Next time (after my arteries have cleared out enough) I'll try the grilled cheese. read more

Best grilled cheese ever. The fries were just ok, but the grilled cheese! I didn't get it super since I'm veg, but there is still some other flavor in there that makes it happen. The house beer is good too, try it. If you can appreciate a great grilled cheese, then you should definitely try the Stoney's version. read more

I used to frequent Stoney's a lot until I had an unfortunate run-in with one of the waiters for brunch. My boyfriend ordered sides of bacon and eggs to go with his pancakes (or it might have been waffles...I've really tried to repress this experience). The waiter brought us three entrees- two for him and one for me. When my boyfriend informed him he only wanted the sides and didn't order an extra entree, the waiter told us "it was cheaper and easier to put it this way in the system." We shrugged it off and didnt think twice (wasteful, in retrospect). When we got the check, we were charged for three entrees-- mine and two for my boyfriend and we WERE overcharged for a portion my boyfriend didn't even eat. When we asked for a correction of the tab, the waiter scowled at us and said, "sure, if you want to be a cheap-*** about it." When he brought back the check, he said to us unprovoked " here is your 50 cents savings." We were so annoyed with his attitude, we paid and left without talking to the Manager. The fact that the waiter is such a jerk when it was his fault is a non-starter. I've always had good service and food at Stoney's so this was disappointing. It was their brunch kick-off, so understandably there was chaos to be expected. What we didn't expect was the disrespectful treatment and the insinuation that we were being cheap. It's about the principle and the waiter getting it right without being an A** about it when it was his mistake. read more

Stoney's is a perfect neighborhood bar. Once you get your friends to understand that they don't have Yuengling, and that it is really going to be okay, everyone loves this place. I don't go to Stoney's all that often anymore, since I moved out of the neighborhood. But I still go when I want a good, reasonably priced burger and a cold beer. It is a great, friendly neighborhood bar. And commenter Bradford C seems to be either an extreme homophobe or seriously deluded. It is not a gay bar, or even a major gay hangout. It is diverse, and friendly, and there are gay people there. And Blacks, and Latinos, and straight people, and office workers. A great mix. read more

I would definitely not go back. The food was ok, certainly not terrible enough to not go back, and not great that I would run back. The service was terrible. Basically the waiter treated us like we had the plague. He never came over to see if we were good, we had to ask at least twice for everything. When the bill came (the ONLY thing that I didn't have to ask twice for), it was not correct. I showed him the menu and told him it was not correct. Had the service not been terrible, I wouldn't have made a big deal, but all of this together, I felt like I had to tell them it was not right. The automated cash register was charging too much for my pizza. Then the waiter had to scold me that I was not correct. I asked for the manager. He went to the manager, and then fixed my bill and no manager came over. I went to the bar to talk to the manager, who was just too busy to talk to me, and really made me tell her twice (big surprise) what was wrong with my experience. After I told her AGAIN, I just wanted to pay and get out. There was no remorse, no desire to correct the situation. This was not my first time in this place, but it was my last. read more

Stoney's used to have a fantastic grilled cheese. I'm sorry to report that tonight - I found out they changed the bread, and mine was burned, but they scraped off the burned part (um, you can still taste the burnt flavor even after you scrape off the burnt parts!), and my fries were double or even triple cooked -- golden brown but hard and crunchy as ... I was once a Stoney's loyalist. I've eaten their grilled cheese since they were on L St. and followed them to P St. Maybe it was just a busy/off night. I used to be a regular here. Like, a several-nights-a-week regular. After leaving the neighborhood for a while, I returned to visit my old haunt. A few of the old employees are still there, but a lot has changed: the prices for drinks and food are much higher than they ever were (there are no longer any bargains or even decent values at all); the new employees seem distracted or surly; my favorite mac and cheese seemed bland compared to the original recipe. Don't waste your time. Came here for a trivia night, yawn. Weak drinks, bartender with a shitty attitude who is only interested in talking to his buddies/drug dealers/whatever, so-so food (exactly why are they famous for the grilled cheese? A McDonald's cheeseburger single without the burger patty would be better), lame trivia that included NSYNC and VERY obscure sports references (many of us hate sports trivia, but college crap from the 90s? No thanks!). I am an excellent tipper and have the receipts to prove it, but when I've tried to flag the bartender down while he's at the other end of the bar making a deal with his pill provider, then when he rolls his eyes and shuffles overs I make the mistake of asking about water before I order my "real" drink and he grabs a pitcher from several feet across the bar and shoves it at me while barking "water is on the bar," I'm done. After that, I told him that I was going to order something else, but I didn't want to bother him. He said he couldn't give a sh!t and that I needed to get over myself. I said, "same to you! I live around the block from the old Stoney's location and although I miss the 'neighborhood dive bar' feel to the place, the new location is a hit. Mainly because they didn't seem to change food-wise. The burgers and sandwiches are still great and they still have a pretty good beer selection. The new space is bigger, (and doesn't have that carpet and uneven floor), and they have plenty of seating. Personally, I like the pseudo sun-room seating at the front window. All in all, a great place for a quick relatively cheap burger & beer. read more

Terrible service at the bar. Went last night and the bartender acted as if we were bothering her by being there. Never smiled, was rude and abrupt when we asked to order, & was on her cell phone texting. I asked for a glass of water 4 times (after we ordered a round of shots) and when she finally poured it, she slammed it down in front of a different customer. The bar was not busy--if she had time to text she should at least pay attention to who orders what. Ended on an even worse note when we closed our tab and my friend didn't leave a tip on her credit card receipt (since I was covering the tip in cash). She came up to us and goes "Uh is something wrong?" Lovely attitude. Leaving 2 stars because at least the drinks were cheap, but we won't be back. If you hate people, you probably shouldn't be in the bar business. read more

I've eaten here many times and overlook the average to deplorable service for usually above average bar food. The 'food' today was bland at best, and overall less than mediocre. Got at nice seat by the front windows, but was pretty unimpressed by the food. Our waiter recommended me away from the mac and cheese toward the burgers (good choice? We reserved the upstairs floor of Stoney's for New Year's Eve this year and it was awesome. Everyone we worked with - from the manager who helped us coordinate the event to the bartender and manager who took care of us on New Year's Eve - was just so great. The price was reasonable too. We had a little over 60 people and there was plenty of space for more. We would absolutely recommend Stoney's to anyone looking to throw a private event at a bar in DC. read more

Well, I was really looking forward to this place after reading all the reviews and I was quite disappointed to say the least. We walked in, sat down, and waited for more than 15 minutes until WE finally asked for help. I wish that I could call the waiter out by name, however, he didn't introduce himself. He only asked if we were ready to order. He never apologized to us for the wait, he never checked on us, and never asked how things were. Food was average... Really let down by this place. read more
