Simply awesome! Why doesn't this place have 5 stars?? Nancy helped us out throughout the entire process (which ended up taking all day, not their fault). Husband and I went in to get him some much needed glasses and while we came in with the groupon expecting a certain cost but they worked so patiently with us and gave us an even better deal than expected. Everything was so easy and they took time to explain differences and costs to us for anything we asked. Towards the end Nancy sat down with us to go over everything and was so personable the whole time. We explained that we were going out of town and they rushed our order so we could have them by Saturday. Looking forward to returning to pick up my handsome mans glasses! read more

I have been a patient of Stony Brook Vision World for approximately 10 years. The quality of care from the optometrist to the front staff has been exceptional. Everyone is knowledgeable of every aspect of eye wear. When I come for check up, I am treated as if I am the only one in the store, regardless of how busy they are. I have recommended family and friends. The staff is the same staff, at Stony Brook Vision World, since I have been a patient of theirs. They are always professional and friendly. Recently, I needed bifocals. Andy provided me with a number of lens options, including progressives. The best way to describe it is, bifocals without the line separating the upper and lower lenses. I decided to go with the progressives. They used a machine that measures the frame and eye position, so that you get the best vision. This new technology created the best pair of glasses I had to date. I recommend Stony Brook Vision World because of their experience, up to date knowledge of eye wear, large selection of frames, and best of all, because of their super friendly professionalism. read more

I made an appointment for an eye exam 1 week ago. I was told to arrive precisely at 1:50 and received 2 text confirmations . I arrived at 1:45 pm and checked in . I was told there was one person ahead of me so I took a seat. At 2:15 the called in a couple both getting exams . I approached the desk know each exam would be about 1/2 hour and was told the doctor is running a little late . I don't think close to 90 minutes is a little late and I'm so tired of making appointments only to arrive on time to wait . Needless to say I walked and called Pearle and got in immediately . The people are rude, show no respect for people in for glasses and just say go look yourself. STAY AWAY. There are too many other good places to go for your glasses and eye exams read more

Nancy is AWESOME. I called because I lost my glasses and I had no contacts so I'm basically blind! I called like 5 other places with NO help. I told her my boyfriend bought me a groupon and explained my situation. She gladly did ANYTHING she could to help me! Went here because I found a deal on Groupon. The staff was very friendly, but service was a little slow. The doctor was nice and helpful. They even tried to fix my other pair of glasses that were out of line. I did not get that pair from their store but they were willing to fix it with no charge. Since I had a Groupon, I had to chose from a different selection of glasses. They were average quality. I waited over a week and didn't hear anything about my glasses. When I called up, they said they were just ready the night before. The glasses seem to be in good shape and fit my face nicely, unlike my other pair I bought from another store. read more

I wouldn't recommend going here at all for either contacts or glasses. I went as they offered a Groupon - which wasn't worth it in the slightest and I actually wound up paying more here than my normal optometrist. I was shocked at the rudeness we encountered when we were in the office and received the same nasty attitude when I called later with a question. I found this really odd as both myself and my husband were nothing but pleasant, yet they did not return the same courtesy. I am not sure why they would even be in the business of dealing with customers when clearly they have no desire to do so. Have been going to Stony Brook Vision World for around 7 years. The owner, Andy can be condescending and rude. Which is really such a shame because some of the staff is amazing, like Nancy, who is such a sweetheart and goes above and beyond for every single customer. Andy will give you an extremely hard time if you ask for a copy for your prescription, even though they are required to by law. It is illegal for them to refuse, you should not be treated disrespectfully for something that is your right to have, by law. While they do have a decent selection, their prices for their accessible-luxury brands brands are higher than usual and close in price to more high end luxury brands in neighboring stores like Pearle Vision. Was able to buy a pair of Versace glasses at Pearle Vision for around the same price of a pair of Lacoste glasses at Stony Brook Vision World, and was treated with great customer service. Personally I wouldn't mind spending more money to support a smaller business, however, not for one where the owner will treat you with mediocre and unprofessional customer service. Save your money and time. There's plenty of other places in the near vicinity that will give you a much better experience, and you'll walk out with a nicer pair of glasses too. read more

Delivered scratched glasses by rude doctor who refused to transfer prescription. Never got a call that our glasses were ready; called to check and found out they were already sitting there. During pick up the "doctor" was rude and before we even left we saw the glasses had a large, deep 1 inch scratch in one lens. (They fixed it after another week of waiting). Tried to transfer our prescription out to a new glasses store due to the bad experience and they basically REFUSED. Kept saying they were too busy and hanging up, never called us back. read more

My 95 year old mother-in-law had lost her glasses and we decided to use a Groupon at Stony Brook Vision World to replace them. The optometrist who examined her eyes could not have been more patient and kind, and the other staff was equally accommodating. The glasses were ready in two days (!) and when I went to pick them up for her, I was told that if she needed to have them adjusted they would come to the house. And all for a Groupon! I went to Stony Brook Vision World for glasses and was not disappointed. The people there were friendly and helpful. They are able to advise about what's currently in style if that appeals to you and are willing to spend time with you while you choose from a wide selection of frames. The end product was excellent. The glasses look good and the world looks good through them. The price was about what I'd expect glasses to cost. You should feel confident about taking your business to these people. Too often people go on an I'll show you type of rant, knowing the details of the issue cannot be made public by the establishment. I like to think that people with common sense realize this and rise above the ranters. If you are looking for an eye health professional in Stony Brook, then Vision World is the place. If you are looking for a 5 minute cheap exam because you do not realize the true value of a thorough eye examination and/or contact lens evaluation this may not be the place for you. Like I said in my previous review, I've been coming here for years... Recently I had to renew my contact prescription. My vision hadn't changed, but I was forced (albeit by law) to spend over $100 to have my eyes reexamined. Granted not their fault, but still I think $100 (for something that takes 10 minutes) is quite excessive for an eye exam. Afterward I did some research online and I found the same exact contacts I was about to purchase for $30 cheaper and sent to my house for free. So I brought this to their attention to see if they would meet the price, they were very aggravated at this and refused, told me I "was shooting myself in the foot" by doing this. Business is business and when I find the same exact product elsewhere for significantly less, basically I feel I"m being ripped off. Not to mention the attitudes I was getting for even bringing it to their attention, very unprofessional. Especially since I've been so loyal for so long. Well they can kick themselves, I'll never be going back, even for an eye exam, I'll go elsewhere. read more

Never been treated so poorly. They need to work on people skills. The woman at the front desk is brash and snippy. Andy is downright rude when he doesn't get his way. They tinkered with my benefits to suit their own needs and refused to give me what my benefits allowed. Even after my benefits people told them that I was allowed what I picked, they refused. When I told Andy that I would not return, he said GOOD and walked away. Then to top it all off, they gave me my glasses with PINK lenses... And offered no apology for their error. I play the field when it comes to eye exams. I got to a different place every year. I came here because they offered a groupon and well I needed glasses and contact lenses. The eye exam was very good, Dr. Renata was very thorough, and a pleasure to deal with. When it came time to choose frames they didn't hover over me, they left some of the cases open and I was able to choose the frames on my own. When I found what I wanted the staff was ready for me. Since the groupon I chose was for glasses, they only charged me the difference for the contact lens fitting. In addition to that they also gave me $40 off the 90 day supply of contact lenses. Keep in mind I only paid the DIFFERENCE and they gave me both options of the groupons they offered. They didn't have to do that and it was really appreciated. I did spend more money than anticipated but that was ENTIRELY my choice, I had a $200 credit towards glasses and I chose frames for $175 and upgraded lenses for $85. They even let me pay half of the balance that day and then half when I picked them up. I didn't even have to ask! In all of the years I have been wearing glasses I never experienced that type of courtesy. I have ALWAYS had to pay the entire balance up front. When I picked up my glasses the owner came out and personally fitted them for me. He was very easy to speak with and I told him how happy I was with the exam and service I received. Whew! Well...With ALL that being said, I think I will stop playing the field and come back here again! read more

I have been using Stony Brook Vision World for several years now. The doctors were very helpful in initially identifying why my eyes had been hurting (I needed vision therapy). Recently when my eyes were feeling strained a few months after a new prescription Andy gave me a free eye exam just to ensure my prescription was correct. I always use the Groupon to go towards the purchase of frames - although the rack that they allow you to choose from is sparse, I just apply the cost to slightly more expensive frames and pay the difference. Andy Polan, the owner, is simply wonderful. He takes so much time to make sure individual needs and preferences are cared for, and he will always go the extra mile. The glasses selection is amazing -- I moved here from Los Angeles and was afraid I wouldn't be able to find Lefont and Eyephorics without having to drive to Manhattan, but he carries those and everything else. In addition, he is extremely philanthropic, he made generous in kind donations to my son's school fundraisers and is very supportive financially of local organizations. Great service, ethical owner, wonderful selection. This is the place to go! read more
