I was so intrigued by this little independent movie theater. We were in the area and I'd wanted to…read moresee "Rental Family" and the times were good. I found the movie schedule and times on line -- as it seems they hadn't updated the marquee signs yet. But they are obviously short staffed. The same guy who opened the doors and sold the tickets, he also made the popcorn. The theater where the movie we were seeing was shown was small with one center aisle and rows with four seats on either side of the aisle. As we were there early, there were only a few other folks in our movie showing. It was like having a private theater. The seats do go back, but they aren't automated. You have to "push" to get them to recline. The amazing part is the price. All movies are only $6 per person. Add in a combo of a drink and a small popcorn for only $7. They have first run as well as some limited and artsy films. We'd definitely come here again if in the area. Such an inexpensive opportunity for date night or daytime entertainment.

They have nice concessions, the theater was clean, floors not sticky (didn't go in the restroom). My first seat had a little too much gangsta lean so I switched and all was well. I loved it and for the price of $6 to watch a movie. They called it a reopening special so idk how long that rate is going to last. The screen was big, the sound was good. You want the imax experience or food service while you partake in a cinema, then this ain't the spot you come to for that flick. But if you want a good time to watch something on the big screen, check this place out! Parking lot was easy breezy btw and no line when I arrived.

Today the Lake Worth Playhouse hosts a children's summer theater camp, movies, drag bingo, fundraisers, concerts, tribute bands ... This evening I was invited by PBS to On the Town in the Palm Beaches 'Set Jetting Screening Event with Frank Lacari. When we walked into the historic theater we passed markers & plaques about the history of this 100+ theater in it's 74th season. The Oakley, brothers from Illinois opened a movie and vaudeville theater in Lake Worth. They purchased this 55 ft plot on Lake Ave. In 1924, they spent $150,000, then considered a fortune & the Oakley Theater opened, screening the silent film Welcome Stranger. Four years later the theater was devastated by the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane, "the largest single loss in the city", according to The Palm Beach Post. The roof collapsed with only the stage and some offices surviving the storm. They reopened in 1929 with sound only to get bankrupted by the depression. In the 1950's & 70's it was The Playtoy with pornography, being raided 10+ times. In 1974, the Lake Worth Playhouse Organization purchased the Playtoy, for $60,000. Since the theater was renovated & has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2005, Hurricane Wilma tore part of the roof, destroyed equipment, flooded dressing rooms & damaged the stage. Repairs were made in time for the 2024 centennial with a Roaring Twenties-style party.

We had purchased our tickets a week earlier and were lucky enough to score some aisle seats seven rows back from the stage. When we entered the Playhouse to find our seats we were very happy with our seats. As we looked around we both noted that there are really NO bad seats in the house. It looks like excellent viewing from each area and seat. Another part of our enjoyable evening was the Play, players and the genuinely appreciative audience. So happy we came and look forward to upcoming shows and continued support of the Lake Worth Playhouse!

Definitely a step above regular theaters. And the seats themselves were super comfortable. If it were just for the movie quality and the seats alone I'd definitely give EVO another 5 star review. However the food service was dreadful. Our movie started at 7:00 and right on the dot we ordered our food, one of the perks of sitting in the dine-in pod seats. Times ticking away, the movies playing, nothing arrives. Literally waited an hour and 15 minutes until I felt the urge to go check and see what was up, missing some of the movie in the process. I get to the lobby where the door to the kitchen is, our order is sitting there on a tray and there's a waiter with his back to me, eating something right over our food. I was absolutely disgusted and wound up not eating it. Also you got to be kidding me with these bathrooms, they are absolutely revolting. Every toilet seat is covered in piss, the floors are filthy, the sinks are dirty, some of the sink fixtures are rusty, most of the soap dispensers have no soap, even the hand dryer was dirty and moldy. It was an absolute abomination. All in all I'll give EVO 3 stars this time around. If they cant improve the bathrooms and the food service, I don't really care how good the IMAX looks, I'm definitely not going to be coming back.
