I have been going to Stop-20 Diner since I was in high school, many, many years ago. It is a landmark. I haven't eaten there for a number of years and decided to order for Thanksgiving through Uber Eats rather than cook. The traditional Thanksgiving meal on the menu was too much food for me. The meal came with pasta and chestnut stuffing. I am not a fan of either. I went with the regular turkey dinner on the regular menu with apple stuffing (which I absolutely love), a veggie and potato. Sadly, that is not what I received. The turkey was good, the string beans and potato were delish. I did not get apple stuffing. It was unidentifiable when looking at it, but after a few bites the stuffing was ground beef and some gold raisins. Not one piece or apple and no bread in the stuffing, just dark ground beef and some raisins. It was horrible. The meal was served with corn bread which became a mountain of crumbs when I cut it in half. I also ordered lemon meringue pie for dessert. I expected more than a small slice for $6. I won't be ordering from here again. read more

I and my friends were at your diner on Sunday for brunch. The food was not great. Your staff was awful. A waiter actually kicked us out because you were busy. His actual words were it's time for you girls to leave it's busy. We were in the middle of talking and having a good time. I was never kicked out of a restaurant because it was busy. The bill was over $40.00 and we paid it. We were in shock. Never been treated with so much disrespect. We will never come back to your establishment again. If we wanted to stay there all day that's up to us. We ate and we were gonna get desert until we were kicked out. The man next to us was shaking his head in disbelief. The waiter made sure everyone to hear. We did nothing wrong. Awful experience. My friend called that day and the attitude of the person she spoke to couldn't care less. I love this place. Been coming here with family since I was a little kidlet. It's one of the few diners near the Long Island/Queens border that has been continually updated both in the food offerings and decor. When I was little it was the place "to go after church" on a Sunday. As a teenager it became one of the places to hang out in the "late, late hours". As an adult, it's just someplace to stop in when visiting fams. Paninis, Wraps, Quesadillas. Common diner fare. Late night snacks. All of it's good! Did not enjoy my breakfast here at all. Bent fork, very heavy, overcooked pancakes, odd taste in the coffee, completely burnt and hard bacon, and poor service. Had to wait forever for coffee, and our server had the social skills of a non-English speaking busboy. The only positive was that my friends liked their omelettes. Had lunch here today with my wife and daughter. Its a diner, so I wasn't expecting 5 star cuisine. My wife had the french toast, the portions were large however she felt there was too much cinnamon, otherwise it was a nice fluffy french toast on Challah bread. My 4 year old had the pancakes (off the childrens menu) and it was very good. Kind of hard to mess up pancakes, but, it can happen. This was not one of those times. Very well cooked and the portion was an adult size portion for a kids menu. She enjoyed them and we both had a piece and they were good. I had the Philly cheese steak panini, no red peppers. The panini was delicious, I really enjoyed the meal. They also give you 3 pieces so it was very filling. I ordered the waffle fries (which is an additional $4 to the meal) and they were delicious. Have been coming here for years. You could pretty much order anything, they have a huge menu and so many things are good . The burgers are awesome, good breakfast, and awesome grilled Reuben! My fiancé and I have been to many diners in Nassau County and this is by far one of the best have been to. Food - consistently good. 2 years living in the area and not one bad meal. We go almost every weekend for breakfast and the eggs are cooked to perfection, the sausage is amazing, and you never have to ask for another cup of coffee. We enjoy the food so much that we have tried dinner a few times and have had similar exceptional experiences. Service - on the spot. Never have to wait for anything, never messed up an order, and every visit they all great you with a smile. The only criticism would be the small lot in the front (but you can always park in back) and/or it can sometimes get a little crowded - but I guess that is the price you pay for success. read more

This diner is consistently good. Been coming here for years and it is one of the few places that still delivers quality food in generous portions so you definitely get your money's worth. They don't deliver which is the only negative thing but it is worth the trip to take out or dine in. Nothing we have ever ordered has been bad which included everything from soup and salad to full entrees and sometimes we will just stop for dessert on the way home. I wish they had a clone closer to our home but the kids live close by and we visit often - sometimes we actually visit the kids as an excuse to get food from here. We generally only use yelp as a warning to others to avoid certain bad businesses - but stop 20 deserves a special review to applaud it for its years of consistently good food in healthy portions. If they have changed chefs over the years - you wouldn't know it because management clearly oversees all the meals to make sure they are of the quality and quantity they are known for. read more

I ordered a linguine bolognese tonight. I was painting all day and wanted something that would fill me up. My go to diner wad closed so I tried the pasta here. What a mistake. Besides lacking in any type of flavor or seasoning, there was cheese all over my pasta. I did not ask for nor did I want cheese. That is supposed to be on the side. Imagine if I was lactose intolerant. By the time I got back home there was no way I was driving back over to the diner. It sucks I wasted $20+ tip on this meal. I am so disappointed and will not be back. This was the final straw for me after multiple issues with food from this diner. I ordered food on Uber Eats. I fully understand that there is a wait and prep time and I am assuming that my food would come second to the people sitting in the restaurant. However, what I don't understand is how my Uber driver had to wait over an hour in the restaurant for my food. I felt so bad for my driver as he could have been picking up other order and delivering during that time. He was kind enough to give me updates every 20 minutes. Again if you are busy I understand it's Valentine's Day. But having someone wait over an hour in the restaurant when he got there 20 after my order was placed is ridiculous. Consider not putting yourself on Uber Eats if you are unable to handle it. There are so many struggling restaurants to be that busy and have people waiting over an hour for food is ridiculous and selfish. read more

But what diner has a mandatory gratuity then has a cashier yell at you when you try to spilt the bill when the bill was literally just a scribble on a notepad. We eat at Stop 20 almost every weekend for breakfast. For the past five years, the food has been consistently good. It can get crowded, but the wait isn't usually very long. Overall, most of the staff and servers are friendly and fast. Definitely like that the place is cleaner than other diners, and they do change up things on their menu - even though we usually stick to the traditional breakfast fare. Pro Tip: don't try parking in the small lot off of Hempstead Turnpike (left of the diner), turn down either Covert Ave or Remsen St to park in the municipal lot - also free and way easier to park and exit! read more

The chicken and waffles...trash. The chicken must not be a popular menu item because when it came to the table it appeared to be old. The "skin" was inedible due to it resembling plaster. It was rock hard! The chicken itself was gray in color. It states that it supposed to be smothered in a honey sriracha sauce but that never came. When we asked for the sauce the waiter brought out honey mustard and sriracha separately. Then advised us not to mix it because it wouldn't taste good. Awkward to say the least. I have lived in Pennsylvania for the last thirteen years, and have eaten at Stop 20 on visits to Long Island. My purpose for writing is to say thank you to the owner from 22 years ago. On January 16th, 1992, I was there with my immediate family between visiting hours at a local funeral home. I was to preside at my mother's wake service after the meal...when I asked for the check, the response was "It has been covered"...I have no idea who covered that bill, I believe it to have been the owner. This diner is one of the best I've been to. I strongly recommend. The service is great, the employees greet you as soon as you walk in and everything is done quickly. When you walk in, they bring you a table that suits your needs and when you order, the food comes right away. The pancakes are nice and fluffy, the sausage was really good and well done, so were the eggs, the Bacon was crisp and crunchy, and the white bread toast is absolutely to die for. Stop 20 is way better than your average diner; I'd say it's steps above, but it's more like an entire staircase. The menu is filled with a prodigious array of options, and the food is delightful. My favorite breakfast item is the country omelette, and the race track panini is a magical blend of flavors. Also, the drinks are surprisingly strong. Stop 20's ambiance is closer to that of a restaurant than a typical diner, but it still has that neighborhood feel. Staff members are courteous and friendly, and the restaurant is clean. I would love if the diner infused more thematic elements (in reference to Stop 20) into the decor and if it had a website; Stop 20 has history and style, and I hope more people can become aware of that! read more

There was about a twenty minute wait on a Sunday morning, but this is to be expected on a weekend when an establishment is known to serve a good breakfast. We stopped into this traditional diner for lunch after a visit to Flushing Meadows park. This diner has an enormous book sized menu with something for everyone here. They probably have at least fifteen paninis. One thing this diner doesn't skimp on is portions. Both my wife and I ordered Fries on the side of our sandwiches and they literally dump a small mountain of them on each of our plates. I ordered a Corned Beef Rueben and it arrive open faced with more sour kraut then meat, I'm not exaggerating when I say the kraut side was nearly an inch thick. Our waitress looked like she's been here forever, and I always smile when one of these old time servers calls us "kids". Cute diner, good plentiful menu, would definitely return. Hands down, this is my favorite diner in Long Island. The food is always fresh and their Panini's are ON POINT. Stop 20 doesn't even feel like a "diner," and I love it.
