Frozen and refrozen ice cream
Trav M.

This store is awful. So many times I have seen the frozen foods, especially i ice cream and frozen vegetable items in horrible condition. They never clean up the shelves and just leave these defrosted and refrozen items on display. The products are ruined and should not be left for sale. This happens on a regular basis! Another problem is the store manager who is obnoxiously loud and seems to be always bellowing out at one of the cashiers or other employees. Does this woman ever realize how annoying her loud screaming is to customers? Almost every time I have visited this store I can hear the same woman shouting something at employees. She should be making sure that food items in the store aren't in the same condition as the ice cream in these pics. Photos were taken on 1/15/2021 at this Stop and Shop but you can find the same thing almost any day of the week at this place. They really need a new manager at this store!

Digital Coupons Clipped - Not Honored at Checkout

Another bad experience at this store. BUT! I think this is a Stop & Shop corporate problem rather than the fault of the specific store. In brief S&S is now offering Digital Coupons via their company app. You set up your account and can read all the weekly sales, etc. and you get a a few Digital Coupons for items on sale at prices only people with the app can use. Well, the first time I used one of these DC' it didn't work when I went through the self checkout (which by the way is no pleasure to use.) I clipped the coupon and it was noted on the app. The discount just did not appear. I went to the Customer Service desk after paying and the Rep said I must not have clipped the coupon, but he did make the price adjustment. There goes another waste of time. Today I went to the same store and clipped the digital coupons for Progresso soup and a T-Bone steak (both significant savings.) Being mindful of the first SNAFU with their DC's I quadruple checked to make sure I clipped the coupons before going to checkout. I mentioned to the cashier that I clipped two DC's and hope the discount prices will show up. Guess what? The cashier said they didn't show up when scanned at the register and, by the way, you need to clip these coupons at least 24 hours in advance in order for them to work! What??? There is no mention of this 24 hour deley anywhere on the app or on the "Digital Coupon" signs displayed next to the sale items. So, basically S&S advertises sale prices and does not honor them unless you just so happened to have clipped the coupons on their app 24 HOURS before you go shopping. Is this a rip-off? Absolutely. Is it bait and switch? Absolutely. Can it be done better? Absolutely. Star Market has a similar app and as soon as you clip the coupon you will receive the correct advertised discount at checkout. This store has a LOT of problems. If it was not a 5 minute drive from my home I would never set foot in the place. S &S management - PLEASE get your act together.

There was a locust or grasshopper is the spinach that we bought from this store. This was so terrible.

Only because 1 star in the lowest. Row's are too narrow. No selection. Some products are out of date. Help needs training.

They leave items past sell-by dates on the shelves repeatedly, and, I can only presume, on purpose.

May be the most expensive milk prices north of the Charles River. Any other grocery in any other neighboring town is $1/gallon lower.

This Arlington Stop and Shop is way better than the one I used to go to in Brookline or the one in Brigham Circle.

My friend and I wound up in the overflow a little after 11am when the event started. I've always seen signs around when I'm driving in the area for other events or goods that they are selling. In the fall they seem especially popular as well for pumpkins and fall activities. The market area is brightly lit. Given the neighborhood, as everyone else has commented expect prices to be at a premium. The samples we tried at the Strawberry Festival were tasty. My favorite was the short cake. They also offered tickets at $1/ticket for some other paid offerings such as their ice cream which I skipped. They had someone dressed up as the Green Monster so that was a fun photo op for the family too. The event had a lot of staff so each station was moving. In fact one of the owners/managers came by seeing a long queue near the entrance by the pasta said we could walk around to the other stations since no one should be waiting in a line (ignore the line to park and get in haha.) I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to visit but it's an option for local. I've also gone to Wagon Wheel which is smaller for seasonal / market type items.

I wish they keep it open till 10 pm at least every day, not just in the weekend. We got delayed because of our flight so we couldn't get anything the night we arrived, but at least they open at 7 am. Nice market, great architectural touches, elegant, upscale, the prices reflect that! A pretty nursery upon entrance, on their grounds, huuuge. The selection of food isn't amazing, but you can get what you need. Their bakery is pretty good and prices are Ok-ish, but a quick Tip: shop early, otherwise, the items go fast! We liked their muffins, tried blueberry, cranberry orange, apple and cinnamon. Big, fluffy, full of fruit and flavor! Danishes are on the small sizes, nice croissants. Loved their ham and cheese and turkey and cheese pastries as well. Their cranberry pecans small rolls are nice for coffee. Juice selection is minimal and prices are high! Service varies- most of the folks we dealt with were nice, one cashier just OK. They even had a party the Sunday we were there but we were out and about in town. Cute grocery store, super clean, came in handy while staying in the area during our Boston trip!

Fish cakes were small and perfectly uniform - almost like they were frozen rather than prepared on site. Green curry had some spice but was mostly one note, there just wasn't much depth of flavor. Vegetables were all cut in huge hunks - both dishes had giant pieces of red bell peppers and onions. Fried rice was pretty bland and barely had any Chinese broccoli in it. Ambiance was bare bones - you order at the counter and they bring you your food and plastic side plates. Half the tables were stacked with boxes and bags of takeout orders. To top it off there's no bathroom, we were told to use the bathroom at another local business. If I'm gonna spend $60 somewhere, I expect to be able to wash my hands before eating and use the restroom. Perhaps there are some specialty dishes that we didn't try but this was my 2nd time ordering from here (I got take out once before) and both times the food was pretty bland. A truly underwhelming experience - especially when there are so many better restaurants in the area.
